Reporter christine, some people are worried the Gaston County deputies wont be compensated for the amount of time they are working in. Working double time on their off days, incurring overtime. But we spoke to Gaston County sheriff Alan Cloninger and he says his deputies are being taken care of. Cloninger told wbtv he got a call from two local police departments, first it was from belmont, thennrom stanley, both cloninger jumped in action, has 15 to 20 deputies filling in for his neighbors right now. The towns are billed at the end of the month for the time they use from Gaston County. Since november the sheriff says belmont has paid around 7,000 a month for Gaston County deputies. The most important thing is were providing a service to the people and protecting the people and that is our job. No matter the cost. Reporter the Gaston County Sheriffs Office have seen their fair share of shortage, too. Last yearner lost 30 deputies but the sheriff says he wants to help out in any way that he can.
