economic development director c2 6:39:05 - i think one thing that's important for folks to continue to remember and understand with regards to sports authority is that they're stores in hampton roads. so we are constantly working to back fill those spaces riverdale shopping center, which a company recently purchased. small business owners in the center said they haven't had any communication with the new owners. today you can give your input on one local city's future. norfolk is holding a public input session tonight. leaders want to know what you think the city's key spending priorities should be next year regarding: schools, public safety, developement, taxes, what-ever's on your mind.. the meeting starts tonight at 6:30 in norfolk council chambers at city hall. tonight in newport news, the school board wants your thoughts on next year's budget. there's a public hearing about the proposed 2017 operating budget at the administration building on warwick boulevard. if you want to speak in person you'll have to fill out a request when you arrive. new this morning, a bill heading through the general assembly would allow some students to use public funding to pay for private school tuition. approved it vote monday. it would allow parents of students with disabilites to use state money they for textbooks and tuition at a private school. opponents of the bill say allowing taxpayer dollars to fund education costs at religious schools violates the state's constitution. a follow-up now to a story we broke yesterday morning on wavy news 10 today on fox 43. virginia beach police charged two students for threatening landstown high school. officers say a student's parent told them about the electronic threat. police say this follows their promise to crack down on school threats whether the suspects mean it or not. the superintendent of virginia beach schools agrees, saying the schools have a zero tolerance for these threats. dr. aaron spence - virginia beach schools heard, or if it's a cry for help or if they're serious about things that they're saying online 501 and so we always want to make sure we investigate. 503 safety is our top priority in the school division and we want to work with the police department and that happens 509 the schools started a social media campaign that encourages students to use it safely and responsibly. we have new information about a gates county school principal allegedly suspended for some kind of misconduct. the school superintendent says the principal was not suspended, but place on administrative leave. the superintendent would not say why principal james woods is on leave, however the gates county sheriff says the school board is looking into misconduct allegations. woods is principal at center middle school, and has been with the school for four years. state police arrested a suffolk man they say cooked meth in two different places. 44-year-old brian warren faces charges. investigators raided a shed on elwood road yesterday, where they say they found one of warren's labs. troopers say they found another about a mile away on glen haven drive. super=bridget anderson/neighbor outcue=was shocked runs=:19 45=1:04:56 "i knew that it had to be terrible drug situation but i didn't know what i didn't even put two and kind of drugs i just knew it must be major for something it was really scary i was shocked" investigators say they also found weed at warren's home. he's in jail this morning. an alabama lawmaker has introduced a bill to castrate some sex offenders. representative steve hurst says this bill will make people think twice before touching a child. 0:00-05 "they have marked this child for life and the punishment should fit the crime" butt to 0:34-0:40 "if we do something of this nature it would deter something like this happening again in alabama and maybe reduce the numbers" the bill has to pass the judiciary committee before it goes to the alabama house and senate. the secret service briefly locked down the white house yesterday afternoon after a man jumped the bike-rack barriers. agents tackled and arrested him before he got onto mansion grounds. the agency turned the man over to the d-c police department. released any information on who he was or why he jumped. at least three people successfully jumped the white house fence last year. the incidents investigation. (sot) curtis rodarnel / tried to help victim c0022 15:41:28 "we're gonna move we are gonna actually dig deep and try to find an actual good nieghborhood at least in the middle of nowhere or something." 15:41:37 police have not said which of the two men, or if both, shot knight. they also have not said what led up to the shooting. this morning wesley hadsell needs a new lawyer. a judge was supposed to sentence him this month after he pleaded guilty to a federal weapons charge. a judge granted his attorney's request to withdraw from the case because of a conflict of interest. according to court documents, his federal public defender represents another go against hadsell's. specifically this person could become a potential witness against hadsell if he is prosecuted of a crime in his adoptive daughter's case. police found aj hadsell's remains last year, after she was missing for a few weeks. the fight between national security and your privacy is developing this morning. the justice department appealed a recent ruling that said apple could not be forced to help the government access a locked i-phone. the appeal is over a routine drug case in new york. the f-b-i says it also needs the company's to open the phone of the suspected san bernardino terrorist. a judge there ordered the company to create software to break into the encrypted phone. apple opposed the government's request. the government's response in that case is due thursday. verizon will have to pay a hefty fine to the fcc for tracking customers' information. verizon must pay $1-point-4 million dollars for a program called supercookie. supercookie technology that tracks which websites verizon customers visit, then delivers targeted ads to their devices. for a while, the company was implementing tracking technology without customer's knowledge and did not provide the option of opting out. the fcc now requires verzion to secure an explicit yes to opt into the technology going forward. a nashville jury awarded sportscaster erin andrews $55 million dollars in her lawsuit against the stalker who secretly recorded her in her hotel room, and the company that owned the hotel. :43-:57 erin andrews - girls... high school, college... they tweet me and they say i want to be erin andrews except for the marriott stalker thing. and i cant control that. after several days of testimony, the jury only took a few hours make their decision. andrews originally sued the nashville marriot hotel and michael dollars for emotional distress after a video of her undressing in her hotel room went viral 8 years ago. michael barret, andrew's stalker has already served two-and half years in jail for admitting to recording and stalking andrews on three separate ocassions. severe weather slammed parts of north texas late last night. in one town, residents think a tornado may have touched down. debris from several homes is scattered around the town of cool, several miles west of fort worth. rescue crews pulled a man from a house that had collapsed. there have been no reports of injuries.
