the people responsible to please step forward. we have that story as well this morning. good morning. taking a live look at lower manhattan on this saturday, march 26th. it's 6:00 straight up. good to have you with us. >> good to be back. i was on vacation last week so happy spring. good to be back and well rested. happy saturday. i'm rob nelson. >> i'm michelle charlesworth. good to still be here. >> here woe go again. >> -- here we go again. >> yesterday shorts, today we cover up. >> it's that time of year where it's chilly at night and warm during the day. looks like temperatures will be right about average for this time of year. so mid-50s today and tomorrow. we begin with 39 degrees. hampton bay is 40 degrees. there's all of the blue showing up on the map, an indication that we are much colder than we were yesterday at this same time. anywhere between 15 and 20 degrees colder. wrightstown, 25 degrees colder. you need to layer up and be ready for it. 28 in monticello. just above the freezing point in new berry this morning. throughout the day today, there is a northeasterly wind that eventually becomes easterly. the sun coming up this morning at 6:49. we're going to track it. if you are doing easter egg hunts or doing traveling with family and friends, roads will be dry. turning to the news now and developing this morning, police are searching for four suspects. this is the latest of a string of attacks plaguing the city in recent months. good morning, marcus. >> reporter: good morning, rob. the incident happening here at the 96th street subway station just after midnight. it is unclear what led up to this, but police say that four individuals slashed a 19-year- old victim. the victim suffering injuries to his head, his back, and his hands. this comes just days after the nypd unveiled operation cutting edge to try to address the increase in stabbings in the city, which are up 20%, even though on subways, the number of slashings account for just so the commissioner says he knows that perception can become reality. >> they are everywhere. so someone in a moment of passion, domestic violence, dispute with a neighbor, there is a ready instrument available. >> reporter: as for this incident, the four suspects seen running north on broadway. the victim taken to the hospital. he is in serious condition but expected to survive. marcus solis, channel 7 "eyewitness news." the family of a young man who was lured into an apartment building tortured and killed in brooklyn are remembering him as sweet and humble. loved ones gathered at the wake for 23-year-old amani miller last night. police believe miller was lured onto a fifth floor howl way in canarsie earlier this month. detectives say that's when he was tortured, stabbed repeatedly and shot. family and friends are calling the world this happened. >> it's unfathomable that something like this, as vicious -- i mean, my heart goes out to the family. >> i need to catch who did this to my son so they don't do it to somebody else. >> police are still searching for the assailants. the only piece of evidence they have is this video of a livery cab police believe the suspects used to leave the scene. the license plate number is blurred out because of a rain droplet that was on the camera lens. an argument in east harlem escalated and ended with a teenager shot in the head. he is now in critical condition. tense moments, as you can imagine, for his family. they are keeping vigil at his side in the intensive care unit. he was shot on third avenue near 115th street right across from a middle school. so far, police have not made any arrests. also, a motorcyclist is in after a high-speed crash in new jersey. news copter 7 was over the scene yesterday on route 17 in ramsey. officers pursued the motorcycle after spotting it weaving in and out of traffic going about 100 miles per hour. the rider then slammed into the back of a car and went flying. he suffered severe injuries but is expected to survive. a teenager survived a freak accident after a piece of metal came up through the floorboards in his father's car in north brunswick. patel says the 3 foot piece of metal came through the floorboard of his dad's toyota camry and through the passenger seat he was sitting in. it pierced the 15-year-old in the back of his left thigh. >> the pain wasn't as bad as it is right now because i don't know why, but it was sharp, burning pain. than he was. >> patel needed nine stitches in his leg. his father says they are grateful his injuries were not any worse. >> how scary is that? [ laughter ] >> everyone has a flaw. >> i like it. >> they are the face of the wildlife conservation society. >> because they are cute. >> cute. >> you know it's fine. >> pandas, dolphins. >> i am not a fan, we agree on i'm not a fan of the weather, either, right now. it was nice yesterday, but today, eh. >> the skies will look good. temperatures are at least seasonal. by this morning, skies will look nice most of the weekend. let's entertain that. from brooklyn, look into lower manhattan. as we look at these numbers here, it does seem like we're going to have a cooler morning, but the afternoon sunshine will make up for this rapidly. i think we take our temperatures into the mid to upper 50s from where we are right now. the winds switch out to the east from tonight and tomorrow. that could bring in clouds for the easter sunrise services. so a few little wrinkles we might want to watch, but all in all, we're above normal for this time of day. right now, above freezing in at we is monticello at 28 and sussex at 32 degrees. in the island, we're in the mid to upper 40s in montauk. looking back at the holiday history for the day of easter, we've had warm ones. the coldest we've ever had on the easter holiday, 12 degrees in 123. really -- in 1923. so we've had major extremes. we've had wet weather, snow, and last year we had 61 degrees. we've put the wind streamers on top of this, so it is a northerly wind, northeasterly direction with us. it's just a few high, thin clouds. no major storms for the weekend. however, clouds pushing in early tomorrow morning because of the easterly flow. that could cloud us in just a little bit early on sunday. so mostly sunny and nice is how this plays out. sunset tonight is at 7:15. sunset, i would love to see your pictures. tag us at abc7ny.com. i got mine up yesterday. share those on social media, another beautiful sunrise and sunset tonight. tomorrow sunrise is at 6:47. not a flawless day. if we get a closer look at what will be happening on easter morning, it looks like 7:00 a.m., bright skies we turn things over and things look better going into the late part of sunday if you have any other plans going on as far as easter egg hunts and spending time with family. your accuweather forecast warming up with monday. we have rain in the forecast and early showers that turn into sunshine late in the day. temperatures pushing the upper 60s. this is the first full week of april. >> very exciting. temperatures do chime up nicelyp nicely well done. >> so we can officially rule out snow? how darn cute was that, wasn't that great? whatever happens this weekend, laura i'm rob powers, and i'll see you on monday. much more ahead on "eyewitness news" on a saturday morning including a live look at today's top stories. >> reporter: another subway slashing. i'm marcus solis. details coming up. >> thank you, marcus. also ahead, a pilot is grounded this morning after police accuse him of running a prostitution ring in texas. that story coming up. >> and started as a normal emergency call, but a nabor neighbor snapped a picture of them with shovels in hand. now a few good officers are getting worldwide praise. >> i'm meteorologist amy freeze. sunrise this morning is going to be quite beautiful. we're expecting it at 6:49 this morning. we're rating this day on a welcome back. good morning, i'm michelle charlesworth. >> i'm rob nelson. we get to see everybody. the sun is creeping up. >> amy says we're getting there slowly but surely. >> i know. >> yesterday was great. >> amy freeze, we blame you. >> well, you know, it's -- if you do blame me, then i would really like compliments later when it gets really nice. >> done, done, done. >> it is colder, but skies are going to look nice, and it is early april. so these temperatures are fairly seasonal that we'll see all weekend. it's just when you get a little spoiled on a friday with warm temperatures it's hard to take. we have 39 degrees in central park. sunrise is officially at 6:49. what a beautiful start we're expecting. 32 degrees and 31 for clinton, new jersey. we've got randolph at 46. to hold on to the warmth. out on the island, we're at 40. bridgeport has 37. radar and satellite picture dominating a norther a wind this morning and skies look fairly decent. satellite and radar combined here with no rain. just a little bit of high, thin cloud coverage. we break down the forecast throughout the day. a lot of sunshine and blue skies starting at 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. it turns out to be a fantastic looking day. 54 for the high in new york city. coming up, we'll talk the second half of the weekend. if you are doing bunny hunts or worried about the easter sunrise services and what the clouds with ill look like, details are -- will look like, details are still ahead. developing this morning, police are searching for four suspects wanted for stabbing a man outside of a subway station and taking off. string of attacks plaguing the city. marcus solis joins us live with more on this. good morning to you, marcus. >> reporter: good morning, michelle. the incident happening by the ticket booth near the 96th street subway station. now that victim remains hospitalized. this was just after midnight when the attack occurred. the victim set up by four suspects and the victim suffered injuries to his head, back, and his hands. the suspect took off on foot north on broadway. this is the 96th street station. the latest incident happened just a couple of days after the nypd announced it was rolling out a new initiative called operation cutting edge where they try to target and pinpoint stabbings that have increased 20% this year even though the number of incidents in subways is small relatively just about 2% of all slashing cases. again, this incident happening just after midnight this morning. the victim is in the hospital expected to survive. marcus solis, channel 7 "eyewitness news." >> marcus, thank you very much. a congregation in new jersey is proving that a church is not the building you pray in but the people you pray with. the historic 150-year-old first presbyterian church of englewood went up in flames just days before easter. the church's pastor and congregation still held good friday services at st. paul episcopal church. while the fire destroyed much. church building, it did not destroy the cross, which was pulled from the ashes. how wonderful is that on this easter weekend? the pastor says it is a sign they will be back and will rebuild. >> this is the most beautiful thing i can imagine, survival. what is a better example of >> the church will hold easter services at bergin performing arts center at 11:00 a.m. a united airlines pilot is now behind bars charged with running six brothels. prosecutors say bruce wallace was promoting a prostitution ring with more than a dozen women paying him every week. wallace is accused of running a large operation across the houston area. he's now facing charges of aggravated promotion of prostitution and engaging in organized criminal activity. a spokesperson for united airlines says wallace has been removed from his flying duties. a teacher is in jail this morning after she was caught on camera apparently knocking a special needs student to the floor. take a look at this video. it shows the 71-year-old teacher apparently thrusting her knee into the little boy's back causing him to fall forward. turned 4, luckily, was not hurt. the teacher has resigned. the home of aaron hernandez is up for sale. the former new england patriot is serving a life sentence for murder. updated bathrooms are all features airbus says its next passenger plane will include. airspace by airbus is a new design the company created after passenger feign over a -- passenger feedback over a lack of space. now economy seats will be 18 inches wide, an inch larger than the competition. the a350xwb plane. all right. >> sign me up. i want to get my diet coke. can i keep the can? [ laughter ] >> i actually drove when i was in hawaii. went well a couple of weeks ago. >> look at this beautiful sunrise. sunset last night was spectacular. we invite to you share your pictures. all you have to do is hit us up, tag us with abc 7ny. that's the way to send them in our direction. especially on instagram, i like to see what's going on. temperatures are close into the city. there are some spots that are still in the 30s near freezing overnight for areas north and west. so that was cold overnight money we begin with a chilly start with the temperatures off to the both afternoons looking good with highs in the mid-50s. tomorrow morning, the question mark is we have the low clouds for the sunrise services. it looks great for the afternoon easter egg hunts, but we may have low clouds to contend with because of the wind directions changing. no storms of course. once the winds, which are now out of the north start to switch around to the east later that's where we could potentially see low clouds. that's happening through the early pre-dawn hours tomorrow. through this afternoon, though, it's all about sunshine, bright blue skies, mid to upper 40s until about noon. then we're shooting for a high of 54 degrees. that would be about average this time of year. we have a combined futurecast which puts our temperatures into the 40s, mid-40s before noon and also the clouds scoot off. so it's beautiful through the afternoon with temperatures approaching the low to mid-50s by 3:00 or 4:00. we'll shoot for that 54 right in the city. by tomorrow morning, here are those clouds trying to creep in and temperatures bounce into the 50s once again in the afternoon. the only real wrinkle is where a lot of people are traveling or go to a service early on. 54 degrees this afternoon, going down to 40 in the city overrer night. so we get a nice start tomorrow. just the low-lying clouds, if those hang around, they burn off quickly and turns into a mild afternoon and 56 for the high. on the accuweather seven-day forecast, it spells it out here, first full week of april taking us to the end of the week where we get mid and upper 60s. sunny and nice through the mid- week. early showers on monday where we go back to work. we're looking at sunday a little closer and look at how the clouds are in place by 6:00 or 7:00 in the morning. you can see that happening right there, then look how quickly 10:00 or 11:00, they are completely gone. that's what we're watching. the only potential for a change or disruption in the weekend forecast, and that itself is not too bad at all. so enjoy this afternoon, grab your sunglasses. find a way to spend some time outside. instead, cool to high in afternoon with mid-50s. so that's coming off the ocean. the further inland you are, perhaps the warmer you will feel. it's not as warm as it was yesterday. >> such a tease. it's all right. >> thanks, amy. in light of the car show being in town -- >> yeah, community calendar. >> that's not going to play. it is a joke. >> some people still don't get it which is scary. so it will be all auto-themed songs. >> auto-centric songs. this is a serious song but in my opinion is the most lyrically beautiful songs of the last 20 years or so. most people know this song. this is a remix of the classic by chasey chatman "fast car." >> nope, not gonna play. company in newark is accused of stiffing a worker who went the extra mile to work out. >> he put his own money in to help out the company, but he now he's out tens of thousands of dollars. >> 7 on shamrock, but one former flow employee is having no luck getting back the money he lent. >> $41,000. >> reporter: he was so loyal to his former employer, when bills piled up, he charged them on his own personal credit card. what kinds of thing $you charge some. >> everything from pse&g to equipment repairs. >> reporter: he says when owner kevin rafferty stopped reimbursing him, he had his boss sign this letter promising he would get paid. he agreed to pay $41,000 after the building and office was sold. building got sold. >> reporter: next up, court, >> never >> reporter: we're looking for kevin. >> he's not here. >> reporter: who are you? >> the boss. >> reporter: you are the boss? all right. we didn't get much of a reception. >> oh, gosh, no comment. >> reporter: i'm nina with channel 7. a day later, we learned he moved to liquidate all assets as an alternative to bankruptcy and warren is just one of dozens the company owes. in the filing, dublin lists debts totaling $4 million. con ed, more than $200,000. kevin rafferty even lists himself as million above the unpaid debt to warren miller. he says he even took care of rafferty's late mother and if she was still running things, the business wouldn't be in such bad shape. >> i'm sure if the mother was alive, i would have been paid. >> reporter: they say they will begin the process of auctioning off the company's assets to the highest bidder. the retiree had to drain his savings and scrap his plans to buy an apartment just do pay off that debt on his credit card. nina pineda, channel 7 "eyewitness news." >> forecast. also rain in the workweek. michelle? developing at 7:00, a 19- year-old man is the latest slashing victim here in the city. a man was attacked by four people, we understand, at a subway station shortly after midnight. marcus solis joins us live with details on the upper west side. marcus? >> it happened here at the 96th street station by the ticket booth there just after midnight. now police are investigating, searching for those four suspects. it was just after midnight the victim was surrounded by four suspects who began slashing him. the victim suffering injuries to his head and back and hands. the suspects took off on foot north on broadway. this comes as the city has just edge," and the nypd will try to pinpoint stabbings as part of the com stat meeting to find out what is behind a 20% increase this year in stabbings and slashings even though incidents on the subway make up just about 2%. the police commissioner says perception is reality when it comes to these stabbings. knives are everywhere. someone in a moment of passion, domestic violence, dispute with a neighbor, there is a ready instrument available. >> reporter: again, the suspects got away. the victim remains hospitalized in serious condition but is expected to survive. marcus solis, channel 7 "eyewitness news." in other news now, an argument escalated and then ended with a teenager shot in the head in east harlem. the teen is now in chrisical condition. tense moments for his family keeping vigil at his side in he was shot on third avenue near 115th street right across from a middle school. so far, police have not made any arrests. funeral arrangements have been set for two new york siblings who were killed in this week's terror attacks in brussels. 29-year-old alexander pinczowski and his 26-year-old sister sasha were dutch united states. funeral services will be held for the two next week near their family's home in belgium. the siblings were traveling to new york city when the bomb went off at the brussels airport on tuesday. the family of a young man who was lured into an apartment building then tortured and killed in brooklyn remembering him as sweet and humble. loved ones gathered for the wake of 23-year-old amani miller last night money police believe miller was lured into a fifth floor howl way at the bay view houses in canarsie earlier this month. was tortured, stabbed multiple times and repeatedly shot. family friends are calling for justice and asking why this had to happen. >> it's unfathomable that something like this as vicious -- i mean, my heart goes out to the family. >> i need to catch who did this to my son so that they don't do it to somebody else. >> cops are still searching for the assailants. the only piece of evidence they have is this video of a livery cab police believe the suspects used to leave the scene. here's the thing. the license plate number's blurred out because of a rain droplet on the camera lens. meantime, a teenager survived a freak accident in new jersey after a piece of metal pierced the floorboard of a car. dylan patel was riding in the passenger's seat of his father's car yesterday morning when they saw a massive piece of metal lying on route 1. patel says the 3 foot piece of floorboard of his dad's toyota camry and through the passenger seat in which he was sitting. it pierced the 15-year-old in the back of his left thigh. >> the pain wasn't as bad as it is right now. i don't know why, but it was a really sharp, burning pain. >> he was a trooper. i think i was in bigger shock than he was. >> patel needed nine stitches in his leg. his father says they are grateful the injuries are not worse. a welcomed sign spring is really here. coney island's luna park will hold its drone sightings. according to faa data, there were more than 1200 drone sightings by pilots, air traffic controllers and civilians as well. just 238 sightings the year before. the majority of the looking at potential cloud cover we could have for the easter sunrise service. first we'll look at the numbers and the change that this easterly wind has brought in. upper 30s for long island right now. 37 in commack, which is pretty nice. though these temperatures do look mild. the 24-hour difference is dramatic. the warmest ever 1976. we had 96 degrees. we had a cold one in 1923. we can have showers, snow, and last year we had sunshine and 61. the average high is 64. it's hard to complain. on the accutrack, starting to see the clouds spin out a little bit and openings and sunshine. it will be nice. evidence of this is showing up on the futurecast already. this is a combined future cast with both sky observerrage and temperatures. by noon we're almost 50 degrees. also, the clouds have completely thinned out by then. then late tonight, we'll fall back into the 30s and 40s overnight. that easterly wind comes direct off the ocean and get the clouds for the sunrise service. that's the wrinkle we are concerned about. beautiful day with temperatures in the mid-50s. so put up with a little bit of colder air. it is because of that back door cold front that brings temperatures back to the 50s. we're on the cold side of things. let's call it mostly sunny, nice, 54 degrees. sunset tonight at 7:15. overnight lows will be 30s in the suburbs, 40 in the city. tomorrow, sunrise at 6:47. a mix of sun and clouds and 56. if you are getting all dressed up tomorrow morning and wondering, am i going to need an extra layer, probably a sweater will seven you well. for easter, 56 then on monday we start with some showers, 59. beautiful through the middle part of the week. first full week of april, not bad at all. friday 67. so we warm up nicely heading in to next weekend. so the "eyewitness news" reporter marcus solis joins us live from west 96th street with more on the story. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, rob. it happened just at the edge of the entrance to the 96 street station of the 123 line. police say the victim attacked by four individuals. the victim was slashed in the head and back and his two hands. the victim taken to the hospital while the suspects took off on foot north on broadway. this comes days aof the nypd rolled out "operation cutting edge" as slashings and stabbings have been all over the news. they are up 20% this year even though subway slashings account for just 2% of those incidents. the nypd now trying to address the measure in a different way trying to measure it as part of the com stat meetings as they take a closer look step incidents taking place. as for what happened last night, the victim remains hospitalized in serious condition but is expected to survive. police continue to look for the four suspects. live in the upper west seuss, marcus solis, channel "eyewitness news." a motorcyclist is in critical condition this morning happened in new jersey. news copter 7 was over the scene yesterday on route 17. this was in ramsey. officers were after the motorcycle driver after spotting him weaving in and out of traffic going about 100 miles per hour. the rider slammed into the back of a car, eventually, and was airborne. he suffered severe injuries but is expected to survive. a congregation in new jersey is proving that a church is not simply the building you pray in but much more about the people you pray with. the historic 150-year-old first presbyterian church of inglewood went up in flames before easter. the church's pastor and congregation still held good friday services at st. paul's episcopal church. while the fire destroyed much of the church building, it did not destroy this cross that was pulled from the ashes. how symbolic is that on this easter weekend while pastor the church will be back and will rebuild. >> this is the most beautiful discoloration i could imagine.
