>> reporter: good morning, lori. behind me you can see the sign from the nypd and crimestoppers asking for any information that responsible for the hit and run that happened early sunday also overnight, police release this surveillance video showing the driver running a red light and hitting the 41-year-old victim as he crossed 5th avenue and ninth street riding his bicycle in park slope before 5:00 a.m. the victim later died at the hospital. this is one of five hit and run accidents that happened across the city within a span of four hours early sunday morning. in all, three people were killed and two injured in hit and run accidents that happened in brooklyn, the bronx, queens and manhattan. now, two victims remain in critical condition this morning. they are a 30-year-old man hit while crossing the street in soho and a 22-year-old woman that was hit by a silver minivan crossing the street in south jamaica queens. all of this happening in the backdrop of the mayor continuing to push his vision zero campaign which saw a 2015 but, of course, the mayor using situations like this as an example why drivers and pedestrians need to be careful. police are looking for the suspects or drivers in all of these accidents. live this morning in brooklyn, dray clark, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you, dray. police took a driver into custody in connection with a hit and run crash that killed an off duty nypd officer. authorities say the 25-year-old vincent harrison got in an accident on the new jersey turnpike in elizabeth early sunday morning. harrison pulled over and got out of his car when another driver hit him and took off. investigators located the infinity involved in the crash. they are also questioning the driver. harrison worked in the 100 precinct in queens. firefighters battled a three-alarm fire in newark. flames spread to three residential buildings on runion street. one brave passerby pulled a man >> when i pulled him out of the kitchen, he said, no, my wife. but your wife was downstairs. you are the one -- she is the one that told me you were upstairs. i put him over my shoulder and dragged him out of the house. >> amazingly no injuries were reported because of the man's heroic actions. investigation. parents of hundreds of students in manhattan are taking action today. they are outraged days after a school fire disrupted their children's lives. eyewitness news reporter kristin thorne is live in union square with the story. >> reporter: around 10:30 this morning, parents of the success academy union square will hold a rally outside the building to demand that mayor de blasio appoint the city is office of emergency management to take over whatever repairs need to be done to the building to get the campus back open again. it was last thursday when their panel in the basement of the 11 story building. no one was hurt. the building was evacuated and since then the school's 2,000 plus students have been reassigned to other school buildings throughout the city. parents, of course, are upset that this is interrupting their children's studies and perhaps they feel that the city is not moving quickly to make repairs on the building because of the ongoing dispute between the mayor's office and the operators of charter schools. parents later on today will be demanding that city crews either pick uped pace, repairing what needs to be done to the building here or that the city at least tell parents and students and give them a timetable of when the building will be able to open again. live in union square, kristin thorne, channel 7 eyewitness >> kristin, thank you. hollywood's finest took to spotlight took the top prize winning best picture. leonardo dicaprio got his just just do. entertainment reporter sandy kenyon was there for all. >> reporter: well, i'm here at the academy awards, otherwise known as the white people's choice awards. >> reporter: tough talk from chris rock and his jokes came at the expense of some of hollywood's most powerful people. >> is hollywood racist? tell you where it is. garden state parkway local lanes at exit 117 with that accident being cleared away. again, if you are heading out the door and you want to go on the garden state parkway, stick with those express lanes instead. on or close to schedule new jersey transit, long island railroad, metro north. subway service is on or close. earlier track work at 50th has been completed. minor high yesterday of 60 degrees which is a nice day. now at hopatcong, 35. 32 hanover. 42 into northern new jersey around passaic, bergen county. 40 white plains. 46 long island. these numbers are way warm for the overnight. a southerly to a southeast wind coming in with this moisture ahead of a frontal boundary. you see on the satellite and radar pictures, clear skies. back to the west is this line of rain showers. that will be sliding eastward. that gets here around 10:00 in western new jersey. temperatures will cool into the 40s. by 11:00, 10:00, 11:00 we have a line of showers west to east, through lunchtime and eastern long island from 1:00 to 3:00 then the sun breaks out into the afternoon. temperatures will warm into the mid- to upper-50s before we cool down tonight. next shot at rain will be wednesday morning, really tuesday night into wednesday morning and we will have showers for wednesday. then we got colder air coming in behind that. midday showers, breezy, mild. sun breaks this afternoon. high temperature of 59. clear to partly cloudy. cooler tonight. 29 in the suburbs. cooler tomorrow. temperatures are above normal at 52 degrees. the seven-day forecast, rainy day wednesday. colder air comes in for thursday. so, look snow showers possible on friday. way, even though we had the 60- degree temperatures. could be a shot of snow showers. it could slippery up open. if you are heading out this morning, go with the express subway service on or close to schedule. heading over here, route 208 northbound, the ramp to plaza road a water main break. keep that in mind. 80 eastbound, the ramp to route 280, that accident has been cleared away. a tractor trailer carrying empty water bottles. in the bronx this accident investigation union, port avenue between morning we are hearing from a bronx man who has filed a federal lawsuit against the city claiming police brutality. trojan hart says officers broke one of his eye associates while he was handcuffed. the incident started when police responded to his house after an alleged noise complaint. he was told to remove his hart said that is when things became physical. >> at some point i give in, i will take it off. they wouldn't allow it. by this time they are hitting me and taking it off. i physically felt the bone crack on my face. immediately it bulged up. it was three dimensional. they had to take me to the hospital. >> the nypd is not commenting on the case. a pastor in ohio is killed inside his own church and this morning his brother is in dayton police say 70-year-old william schooler was shot in his office at st. peter's yesterday afternoon. the scene. they expect to charge him with the murder. two communities are mourning the loss of a virginia police officer shot and killed the police department in officer ashley guide done's hometown in new hampshire. she was sworn in to the prince william county police department friday. the next night the 2-year-old was shot and killed responding to a domestic violence call. her high school principle says that guindon's senior quote says live for something rather than die for nothing. >> the irony is a bit overwhelming. this is not right. >> guindon served in the marine corps and joined the force a year ago. she took time off before being sworn in last week. the man accused of killing her police say killed his wife and injured two 0 other officers. the 4-year-old montana girl abducted on friday will be back macy lilly was discovered on a native american reservation. a sheriff's office found her a few miles from where she was kidnapped. she is in good health. a suspect is in custody. coming up on "eyewitness news this morning," shocking discovery. what one woman found inside a sealed box in a park in manhattan. >> also separate hit and run crashes across the city. four boroughs on sunday in less than four hours. eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live in park slope with new video just released by police. >> reporter: we will show you the surveillance video in a moment. you can see the sign behind me from crimestoppers asking for any information that might lead police to the driver responsible for the hit and run that happened early sunday morning. the victim, who died here, is the last victim to die in a handful of hit and run accidents the nypd is investigating. this surveillance video was released overnight by police as they search for the driver who brooklyn. the video police say shows the driver running a red light and hitting a man crossing 5th avenue in park slope. the 41-year-old victim died at the hospital. it was the 5th hit and run in new york city over the course of four hours. >> it's a shame. i hold whoever was responsible >> reporter: an uber driver was killed getting something it out of his car early yesterday morning in south o coven park. sonia ramirez said the driver kept going. >> it's a shame people driving by and nobody stopped. >> reporter: police are searching for the driver that took off after hitting and killing jose contreras. he was leaving his sister's 80th birthday party early yesterday morning when he was killed near the entrance ramp to the cross bronx expressway. he worked as a custodian in yonkers and was getting ready to retire p. his family is hoping that the person who hit him turns himself in. >> he was always there for us. my mom is distraught right now. it's horrible. >> reporter: there are two surviving victims, one a 30- year-old man hit while crossing the street in soho and a 22- year-old woman hit in south jamaica queens. this is all happening as mayor de blasio continues to push his vision zero campaign in an effort to try to bring down the number tf traffic deaths that did happen in 2015. the mayor says this is an example of why people need to slow down and pay attention when you have irresponsible drivers who hit people and continue to drive on. we are live in brooklyn, dray clark, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you, dray. new this morning, police on the scene of what may be a murder-suicide in suffolk county. someone checking on family members at a home on summer street drive found the bodies of a man and a woman. no word on how they died. police say there was the smell of gas in the house. well, the celebrations are still going strong this morning. just hours after the oscars were handed out during hollywood's biggest night. >> the ceremony was also surrounded by controversy over the monologue of host chris rock left few disappointed. eyewitness news entertainment reporter sandy kenyon was there for the action and joins us live in hollywood. good morning, sandy. >> reporter: good morning, ken, good morning, lori. i covered a few of these and i will never forget the charged atmosphere as chris rock fired up that crowd during his monologue in the first half hour of last night. turning to the winners, brie larson is new, leonardo dicaprio was overdue and both were gracious backstage where everyone seemed to agree chris rock was the right man at the right time to talk about a situation that is anything but right. >> well, the academy awards, otherwise known as the white people's choice awards. you are dam right. racist. like we like you, rhonda, but you are not a kappa. jada is mad her man will was not nominated. i get it. you get mad. it's not fair that will was this good and didn't get nominated. it's also not fair that will was paid 20 million for wild wild west, okay. >> spent about a year prepping and doing the film and by the time the movie was over, it was so far away from who i was when i started that it was a long process of many different things in trying to find myself. and the weird part is, i'm standing here now completely myself. >> certainly with this upcoming election, the truth is do not empirical truth and on the wrong side of history and we need to join together and vote for leaders that care about the future of this civilization and the world in which we know it. >> reporter: i had an extraordinary experience at the governor's ball following the oscar show. we just finished "eyewitness news at 11:00", which was airing past midnight. i went to the governor's ball and there was leonardo dicaprio with his oscar on a table. the ladies that engraved the oscar were ready to go. he watched and we watched as his first oscar was the ramp to plaza road, water main break. ken, over to you. >> thank you. at 5:32, new video of the car that struck and killed a person in brooklyn. the driver never stopped. eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live in park slope. this is one of five on sunday alone. a very bad weekend for the nypd investigating a series of deadly accidents. behind me you can see the billboard from crimestoppers asking for any information that might lead them to the driver responsible for the hit and run that happened at this intersection early sunday morning. overnight the police released this video showing the driver running a red light and hitting the 41-year-old victim as he crossed 5th avenue and 9th street riding his bicycle in park slope early sunday morning. the victim later died at the hospital. as you said a moment ago, this is one of five hit and runs that happened across the city sunday morning. in all, three people were killed and two injured in hit and run accidents that happened in brooklyn, the bronx, queens as well as manhattan. there are two surviving victims. the first is a 30-year-old man then a 22-year-old woman hit by a silver minivan in south jamaica queens. both of those victims are listed in critical condition this morning. police are looking for the drivers involved in all five of these accidents. live in brooklyn this morning, dray clark, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> dray, thank you. police took a driver into custody in connection with a hit and run crash that killed an off duty nypd officer. authorities say the 25-year-old vincent harrison got in an accident on the new jersey turnpike in elizabeth sunday morning. harrison pulled over and got out of his car when another driver hit him and took off. investigators have located the infinity involved in the crash and they are questioning the driver. harrison worked in the 100 precinct in queens. a school fire has been disrupting classes for days in manhattan. fed up parents are taking action. kristin thorne is live in union square. >> reporter: good morning, ken. at 10:30 this morning, parents of the success academy union scare are planning to hold a rally outside of the building in union square to demand that mayor de blasio assign the office of emergency management to take over repairs here after a fire so the campus can open back again. it was last thursday when an electrical panel in the pavement of the 11 story building caught fire. thankfully no one was hurt. the building was evacuated and since then the school students have been reassigned to other city. the department of education says crews, more than 30 workers, have been working repairs. but they say the damage was so significant that at this time eye taking them a lot of time. parents asked the city eye associates while he was handcuffed in inside the 42nd precinct house. the incident started when police responded to his home after an alleged noise complaint. when officers took him to the station
