its side. this dump truck over here looks like what they're trying to do is clean up the mess that was spilled, put it on the dump truck and they can hopefully open this ramp. street cleaning rules are in effect. that you think heather. 4:32. breaking now, police in rocklin county are searching for a hit and run driver who hit a bicyclist. investigators tell eyewitness news they are searching for a dark blue car with passenger side damage. police shut down the road while they investigated the deadly crash. the road is expected to be reopened in time for the morning commute. also breaking at this hour, a 93-year-old woman has been this is video just in to the eyewitness news room from bay ridge. firefighters pulled the woman from the building on 79th street. she was pronounced dead at the hospital. the cause of that fire is under investigation. 4:33 is our time. one of new york's finest was among the six american troops killed yesterday by a taliban suicide bomber. joseph lemm was a 15-year veteran of the nypd. he was part of the international guard serving in afghanistan. he worked for the warrants division tracking down criminals. camera were rolling in 2013 when he returned from a 10- month long deployment in afghanistan and surprised his family. he served two tours of duty in afghanistan and one in iraq. he leaves behind two young children. nypd commissioner bill bratton says detective joseph lemm all strive for. we remember the selfless public service -- we'll have more coming up in a live report at 5 a.m. we have new video showing angles of a shooting that happened inside of a busy supermarket that was full of people. police in the bronx are still looking for the gunman. eyewitness news reporter kala rama is live for us in the bronx with details. good morning to you. >> michelle, good morning to you. police are still looking for that man who went inside this grocery store and opened fire while customers including children were shopping. this was all here. you can see the suspects enter through the back. police say he was yelling the victim's name, asking for people to point him out. he gets to the cash register finding his target, shooting a 21-year-old man three times in the torso. cameras caught the suspect running from the scene. witnesses say the whole thing was crazy. there was so much going on. he was fighting right in front of everybody. boom boom boom, shooting at the guy. he just wanted to get his target. >> after being shot three times the victim is in stable condition still in the hospital. he is being questioned to see thank you. it's 4:35. this morning a garbage truck no longer sits on the side of a westchester building. the damage is definitely done. this is what it looked like as crews pulled the truck from the outer wall of yonkers union car service in yonkers last night. police say a medical condition caused the driver to lose control and slam right into the building. the owner of the car service says the truck dealt a devastating blow to her decade old business. >> completely destroyed, completely destroyed. we can't get back in. >> city inspectors are still evaluating the building's structural integrity. a 16-year-old girl was slashed in the face while walking to school nearly one week ago and with her attacker still out there she's living in fear and afraid to show her face. cefaan kim spoke with the girl about the terrifying encounter. >> the blood kept coming out. i was bleeding a lot. it was very traumatizing. >> speaking through an interpreter the 16-year-old randomly slashed in the throat says she can't get it out of her mind. she asked us to steal her identity. weak and physically unable to talk she's communicating through pen and paper. there's stitches that run from her eye and ear and down to her throat. she still can't eat solid food. >> my hope is not to have this happen again. >> this is home security video showing the teen leaving for school wednesday morning a care in the world as she innocently puts on her back pac. minutes later the camera caught her stumbling home covered in blood, the images too graphic for tv. the victim says she noticed had her attacker following her and out of nowhere without saying a word he cuts her twice from ear to throat with a box cutter. the suspect was wearing a surgical mask and gloves. the teen says she felt the pain right away. it was a pain she had never felt before. all she was thinking at that moment was she needed to get to a hospital as soon as possible. at all. >> the teen says the pain is now bearable but her mother says through an interpreter that her daughter is trying to stay strong to protect her mother. >> she doesn't want her mom to worry. she keeps on saying it's okay, it's okay. her mom understands she's in pain. and over the weekend when we saw security with the family, my wife was in tears as we saw her leaving the putting her book bag on, closing the door. these are moments that every single family knows what it's about. this is every parent's worst nightmare. >> doctors told the teen on monday she's expected to make a full recovery. it will be a long road ahead. it will take about a year and she will likely need reconstructive surgery. that is just her physical scars. she says she still wants her american dream. in the meantime anyone with information is being asked to call crime stoppers at 1800-577- tips. there is a $2500 cash reward. in whitestone cefaan kim channel 7en eyewitness news. there's still no word on what caused an industrial accident in westchester county that led to big delays for the evening commute. they temporarily suspended stops yesterday after to an industrial plant near a station. there were reports of overheating alcohol tanks. you're these showers approaching from the west that are coming our way. yesterday we were looking around the 40s for the high. we're going to be looking around 46 for kingston and poughkeepsie. 53 around trenton, 55 belmar, 51 bridgeport. we're looking at winds mostly out of the south. that's what keeps pouring in the moisture and pumping up the warm air. this will go to a light southerly wind tonight with this rain. that's something we really have to be on the lookout for overnight tonight and christmas eve morning. there's a couple of showers in ulster sullivan county and down to our south and west. the main branch of this is all the way back in here to the ohio valley. we'll have this off and on through the day today. we'll get a little break and that will be heavier tomorrow afternoon. you'll see this on our futurecast. the rain gets going around 11:00, noontime, and then into the afternoon. you see this afternoon this kind of gets done by the time school is out, and then tonight we kind of have partly cloudy skies but fog forms overnight, and then here comes the rain tomorrow starting around noon, 1:00, and this next batch that comes up from the south and west and that will last into wednesday night. that just surges warm air up and over us, and we get quite warm for christmas eve thursday. we're quite mild today at 62. normal high around 40. mild tonight with areas of fog overnight. we're at 51. tomorrow we've got dense fog in the morning, rain in the afternoon that could be heavy far time. we're at 62 degrees. here's your accuweather seven- day forecast. so we've got that rain tomorrow, the warm air surges up. the low wednesday night is 61. the temperature doesn't move a whole lot tomorrow. it warms up to 74 tomorrow, and high, which is 63, but it could tie the all-time high set become in 98, which is the warmest year ever for new york city. that was when it was 75 degrees. then you see even on christmas day it's gorgeous. we're at 66. even the weekend the tractor-trailer that was on its side. the tractor-trailer that was on its side is still on its side and it's right over here. they're trying to remove the debris and put it into the dump truck. this is the l.i.e. going's to that lower level. at one point we had only one lane open. it looks like they have opened those lanes. you still have that ramp closed down as you try to get to the bqe. this is 6th avenue. this looks over here. 6th avenue you have an accident involving a cab and a tractor- trailer. we also have problems with the g train, the 1 train. you want to keep that one in mind. they do have some shuttle buses available. you have your street cleaning rules in effect. a woman accused of driving into a crowd of people on the las vegas strip says she was stressed out over her living situation. lakeisha holloway faces a long list of charges including murder. according to a police report holloway told investigators she had been living in her car for a week and was stressed out from constantly being kicked out of parking lot where she tried to sleep. 21-year-old jessica valenzuela was killed. a grand jury in the case of sandra bland has decided not to return any indictments. bland was found dead in her jail cell last summer. the 28-year-old had been arrested three days earlier for allegedly assaulting an officer during a traffic stop. officials in waller county texas said she hanged herself with a plastic bag. her family rejected that finding. bland's family said they still have questions about the case. >> the grand jury is committed to doing what's right, and we're committed to doing what's right no matter how long it takes. we and the grand jury, anything that they've asked for we've done our best to give it to them. handling the case says the grand jury will reconvene in january to decide whether the trooper who arrested bland should face charges. 4:50 right now. a woman in new jersey is accused of attacking a woman with a pipe over a parking spot. 48-year-old kenia nicolas-king is charged with aggravated assault. she allegedly attacked an 18- year-old driver who pulled into a parking spot she wanted at the garden state plaza in paramus. king tossed the 15-inch pipe out of her car window after the attack. she was arrested after getting stuck in traffic. new images have been released of a suspect wanted for a jewelry heist at gwinnett paltrow's pop-up store. the suspect stole watches and bracelets and took off with two accomplices. the former university student who was arrested after a tantrum thrown over macaroni special probation. luke got tee gained internet notoriety when video of his demands for mac and cheese went viral. he was arrested after a scuffle with a food court manager. the judge admitted him into a program that allows for a year of probation. he told the judge he is ashamed of his actions and is no longer enrolled at uconn. coming up on eyewitness news this morning, two members of the nypd set rain tomorrow evening and tomorrow night. so as we look here from our camera right here at 4 times square looking south, we are looking at very warm numbers here. as a matter of fact the next seven hours the temperature's going to be at 56 warming into the 60s. weather and traffic together every 7 minutes. heather has problems on the bqe. >> i want to tell you if you do go to the george washington bridge, the palisades parkway south at exit 2 is closed with police activity. we have this closure, and this is the bqe northbound ramp to the eastbound side of the l.i.e.'s lower level. overturned tractor-trailer, debris spill. they're trying to get the tractor-trailer uprighted. their putting the debris in this dump truck. we have alternate side of the street parking rules in effect for today. ken, over to you. at least one body has been in china as the search continues for survivors. china's official newspaper says 81 people are still missing. the avalanche buried nearly three eyewitness news this morning. we're following breaking news at 5 a.m. a fast moving fire destroys a home in new jersey under construction at the time. we're working with the fire department to find out exactly what caused it. an nypd detective has been killed by a suicide attacker while serving our country in afghanistan. we have new reaction from top political leaders this morning. >> and it's hudson river valley, 684 and through the thruway. a couple of showers. temperature warms to 62. then it gets foggy. we're going to talk about that and some very warm record high weather coming your way. it's weather then heather every 7 minutes. she's been very busy this morning. >> i'm kind of just running lapse around the studio. trying to get my workout in before i have some christmas food. lets go over to our mass transit chart. was going to eat but that would take my entire report. long island railroad, metro north new jersey transit doing okay. we can also look at our subway status. we have some track work on our g trains, our d trains and we're looking at another problem as we go over to our next map. i can tell you that we do have a situation on the bqe northeast ramp to the l.i.e. east of the lower level. we have that accident that involves that overturned tractor-trailer. it's blocking that ramp. another problem that we're dealing with, it's the palisades parkway going south near exit 2, police activity. we do have all lanes closed down. other than that subway issue our mass transit is doing okay. alternate side of the street parking rules are in effect for today. thank you so much heather. more on that breaking news that heather adjuster mentioned. the southbound palisades parkway was shut down after a police chase. it happened south of exit 2 in the last hour. police took the suspects into custody after a foot chase in the woods. we checked with police, we our kala rama is headed to the scene and will bring us a live report when she arrives. also breaking in new jersey, new video just into the newsroom a big house fire in homedale. the home was under construction at the time. nobody got hurt. an nypd detective is among the six american troops killed while serving our country in afghanistan. staff sergeant joseph lemm was a member of the bronx street claims unit. he was killed by a suicide base. precinct. >> reporter: you can see the black bunting over my shoulder. they are officially in mourning here at the 50th precinct as are the 30-plus other members of the nypd with who are all grieving the loss of detective joseph lemm. lemm was 45 years old and a 15- he spent most of his life serving on the tough streets of new york city as well as in defense of democracy in the military working in some very dangerous places. lemm was part of a convoy driving through a village near bagram airfield yesterday when a suicide bomber riding a motorcycle drove into that convoy and detonated a number of explosives killing six american troops. lemm was one of them. now lemm was a detective with the nypd. again, a 15-year veteran, a member of the squad which tracks down wanted offenders and violent offenders. he was also a member of the air national guard serving two tours of duty in afghanistan and one in iraq. he was also a married father of two. this is video from 2013 when receive lemm surprised his then 13-year-old daughter and 2-year- old son when he came home after you can see there it was a very touching and emotional moment. mayor bill de blasio released a statement saying in part detective joseph lemm gave his life yet asked for little in return other than to serve his country and his fellow new yorkers who may not have known him in life but mourn his death nonetheless. back here live outside the 50th precinct, forced his way into a babies"r"us store yesterday morning in west bury. he tide up two female workers with handcuffs and looted the >> right now it appears that he's looking at stores that do employ females. it's either usually during the opening or closing phase of that, and he usually knows that there's not too many people in that area at the point. >> nassau county police say catching the robber is their number one priority right now and they have intensified patrols at businesses. happening today, the trucker involved in the deadly crash that severely injured comedian tracy morgan will try to get the case dismissed. kevin roper's attorney says the wal-mart driver won't be able to get a fair trial based on negative publicity. roper's truck hit them last year on the new jersey turnpike. mcnair was killed in the crash. overnight donald trump used a sexually derogatory against his democratic clinton camp has some strong words for trump. abc's kenneth moton is following the we've got northwest winds to a southwest wind around. as this front slides eastward today we've got showers, and showers will get heavier as we go into the afternoon off and on. there's a big batch of rain to the west. we'll get more of that tomorrow, tomorrow afternoon. around 9:00. we're looking at showers off and on, about a quarter inch to a half inch of rain, and temperatures will be in the only gets warmer. it's going to be 30 degrees warmer than normal this week. cloudy the next few days. it's warm air that builds in to record levels christmas eve. we could actually even tie the all-time record high for december. it clears out christmas day. 53 now from sayreville, toms river to wrightstown, 35 around monticello, all of these numbers are way warm. there's a couple of showers night. what surges up is a lot of warm air overnight. we could have an inch or so of rain, but the warm air surges up, and that's going to create fog tonight and fog for thursday night into christmas morning. as you see here 10:00 temperature 56, some rain, 60, 61 this afternoon, normal temperature will be around 40, and then overnight you see we're still into the 50s, and tomorrow by the time we get into the afternoon we're back to the low 60s again with this rain coming through the area into form night. then look at the temperature at 4 a.m. on thursday, 66 degrees to start the day. it will get into the low 70s. rainfall amounts are going to be in the tenths today, and then we could get over an inch or so of rain by the time we go to thursday morning. about a quarter inch of rain this afternoon and this evening. then as we go into thursday an inch of rain of top of that. be mild after 62 degrees. warm on christmas eve, record warmth over much of the eastern two-thirds of the country. your weekend shapes up like this. temperatures still well above normal, temperature high as 40 h. we're at 54 and 56. couple showers on saturday and sunday. cloudy, quite mild today with a news in new jersey that heather was talking about. a portion of the palisades parkway is closed after police attempted to pull over a vehicle and shots were fired. kala rama has just arrived with details. she's in alpine. >> reporter: that's right, michelle. we're on the southbound lanes here of the palisades interstate parkway. traffic now building because it's down to one lane open. further down a line of flashing lights. those are police cars here pulled along the side of the road here looking in the woods right next to the interstate here for more possible suspects. here's what we know so far. police were attempting to pull over a vehicle in passaic, shots were fired. multiple police departments attempted to pull over a vehicle on route 3, then new jersey turnpike and the george washington bridge. then in this area, the suspects bailed out of the car and rap into these woods. police followed with a foot chase into the woods. that's where they are now. at this point you can see, again, a number of law southbound lanes here a number of flashing lights and beams through this heavily wooded area. that means officers are searching the woods on foot. at this point there are no reports of any injuries, and right now police are saying custody. what they're looking for in the woods now is more possible suspects and a weapon because earlier shots were fired. we're live here it happened on route 202 and sky meadow road in suffern. investigators say they're searching for a dark blue car with passenger side damage. also break at this hour, a deadly fire in brooklyn. this was the scene at a building on 79th street near 4th avenue in bay ridge earlier this morning. firefighters pulled a 93-year- old woman from one of the apartments just after 1:30 in the morning. she is pronounced dead at the hospital. the cause of the fire still one of new york's finest was among the six american troops killed yesterday by taliban suicide bomber in afghanistan. detective joseph lemm was a 15- year veteran of the nypd. he was part of the air national guard serving in afghanistan. here at home detective lemm worked for the warrants criminals. bunting draped in the bronx in memory of lemm. cameras were rolling in 2013 when he returned from a 10- month deployment in afghanistan and surprised his family. he served two tours of duty in afghanistan, one in iraq. nypd commissioner bill bratton says joseph lemm epitomized the selflessness we can only strive for putting his country and city first. we remember this selfless public servant who dedicated his life to protecting of people. that's a man opening fire on someone inside of a sea town supermarket on southern boulevard in mott haven yesterday. the store was filled with customers when the bullets started flying. a 21-year-old man believed to be the target was shot three times. he's in the hospital. this morning a garbage truck no longer sits on the side of a westchester building. the damage has definitely been done. this is what it looked like as crews pulled the truck from the outer wall of yonkers union car service. a medical condition caused the driver of the truck to lose control, slam into the building on nepperhan avenue. the owner of the car service says the truck dealt a devastating blow to her decades old business. >> completely destroyed, completely destroyed. we can't get we can't do any business. we are completely shut down. >> city inspectors are still evaluating that building's structural integrity. it's 5:36. a man is waking up, hopefully bars after leading police on a 3-mile high speed chase on long island. police say 26-year-old jimmy pierre of spring valley was behind the wheel of a 2016 audi pushing nearly 130 miles an hour in a 55 miles an hour zone. once troopers caught up with him and a female passenger, police say they were both hostile and visibly intoxicated. pierre was hit with a list of charges including dwi, reckless endangerment. the woman accused of driving her car into a crowd of people on the sidewalk in the vegas strip said she was stressed out over her living situation. lakeisha holloway faces a list of charges including murder. holloway told investigators she had been living in her car for a week and was stressed out from constantly being kicked out of parking lots where she was trying to sleep. holloway was living in the car was killed 56 degrees, the humidity 72%. the winds continue to be out of the southwest, and the pressure holding steady. so we have it happens in the mid-50s around the five that is really warm for this hour of the day. we're looking at 14 up toward monticello, temperatures are going to keep climbing. a couple of showers popping up here, a little drizzle this morning from central jersey. eastern pennsylvania to around central pennsylvania, that really comes in midday. our computer model is showing 11:00, noontime, and then it's sort of out of the area by 3, 4:00. tonight we get a break, and tomorrow we're cloudy with fog, and then rain by lunchtime 2:00 tomorrow into the evening into tomorrow night. two days you need your rain gear, and big fog for thursday morning. traveling on christmas eve morning there will be big slowdowns with this fog. temperatures will be in the low 60s this afternoon with this rain. you see 60, 61 from the park south on our computer model. we get this break tonight. the temperatures overnight are still in the upper 50s. tomorrow we're around 62 with evening, and then tomorrow night look at the temperatures surging up. tomorrow morning we start the day at 67 degrees. it's going to be really warm. departures from normal. this is from december 1st through the 22nd. we're 11 degrees warmer than normal for this time of the year on average. that's a lot. some days within 20, 25 degrees above normal. last year to contrast last winter, we were 11 1/2, nearly 12 degrees colder last year. 11 1/2 degrees warmer this year. it will even be warm this weekend, showers saturday, maybe a sprinkle on sunday but quite mild with a couple of showers this afternoon and this evening, fog overnight tonight. some showers tomorrow afternoon after some fog in the morning, watch out for that, then, well, that rain wednesday could be a little bit on the heavy side as you see in the afternoon and evening as we go into the nighttime, maybe an inch of rain. then we get this record high temperature on thursday that high, which is 75 set back in 1998. so it will be very warm on christmas eve. christmas day is great. sun and clouds, 66 degrees, fire up the barbecue, get the
