island. police are on the scene after a double murder. there seems to be a mystery right now. police have identified the victims as 27-year-old terrell ford. brothers. they were shot near targe street and vanderbilt avenue before 3:00. the victims were taken to different hospitals where they both died. breaking right now on long island, police are investigating an incident at a bar in suffolk county. video of the scene shows investigators outside of the overnight. eyewitnesses say a fight started inside the bar, spilled on to the street. details of the incident are not known right now. we do know there is still quite a large police presence at that scene. we're also following more breaking news this morning. this one in queens where police are looking for the driver in a deadly hit and run. this happened just after 1:00 this morning in college point. police say the man was hit by the driver of a dark colored suv while he was crossing the northbound lanes of college point boulevard. the driver took off. the victim died at the hospital. also this morning, brooklyn borough president eric adams will lay out a proposal of new gas safety measures following that deadly building explosion that killed one woman and injured three others yesterday. cefaan kim is in borough park with the latest. >> take a look at what's happening here. quite a bit of activity in the past 15 minutes or so. what you're seeing is firefighters chopping down trees trying to gain access to that building because fire officials say they're about ready to demolish that building. that building will be torn down and hopefully be completely demolished they say by sometime this afternoon. the latest by sometime tomorrow. now this after firefighters spent all night here battling hot spots until about 6 a.m. it took more than 100 firefighters yesterday to battle this blaze. it was around 1 p.m. when that explosion sent debris flying into the street tearing off the side of that building. investigators say this may have all been caused by tenants attempting to swap out a stove before moving. that blast killed a 60-year-old woman in a stairwell. she has not yet been identified. it also injured a 34-year-old father along with his 9-year- old son and a 27-year-old man, all of them walking along the sidewalk as they were heading home from synagogue. we spoke to a co-worker of those two men who says he's hoping that they have a quick recovery. >> they always have a smile on your face. you'll never catch them without a smile. i hope they're okay. i hope they can get back to work and keep smiling at people here. >> reporter: all of those three are expected to be okay. the recovery at methodist hospital. latest in a disturbing trend of incidents. he's called on the state department of public service to investigate this explosion. this is now the fourth gas explosion in the city since march of 2014. in borough park, cefaan kim channel 7 eyewitness news. thank you. breaking news in the bronx right now. police are on the scene after a woman was shot inside of her car. it happened just after 7:30 this morning on morris avenue near 191st street in fordham ma non. police are on the scene right now. we understand this was a fatal shooting. no arrests have been made. also this morning, we're learning even more about the gunman in the oregon community college massacre. police now say chris harper mercer shot himself as police arrived. investigators have not released a motive yet, but are looking into witness accounts that mercer asked victims about their religion before he shot them. his stunned father told cnn that having guns goes against his beliefs. >> i had no idea he had any guns. i had no idea that he had any guns whatsoever, and i'm a great believer that you don't buy guns. don't buy guns. you don't buy guns. >> nine people were killed in thursday's shooting. they ranged in age from 18 years old to 67. nine other people were wounded. michelle. >> police have now released the names of two of the men who died in a boat accident in jamaica bay. authorities say 42-year-old ricardo meija of flat bush and 50-year-old joel ortiz died when their boat capsized on friday night. five men were on board when that small vessel flipped over. the three others have been released from the hospital. family members told police the men were bass fishing in the storm. new details in a homicide investigation on long island. police have identified the victim as 42-year-old trisha odierna. authorities are now looking for her husband, former nypd officer paul leitgeb. investigators say leitgeb has not been seen since his wife's body was discovered inside their house on lake grove on thursday. police have not released the cause of her death but are investigating it as a homicide. and police have arrested a woman in the bronx. she's accused of purging a child -- punching a child because she didn't like his manners. investigators took 47-year-old jathiyah richards into custody yesterday. they recorded richards hitting the 10-year-old several times inside a bodega in norwood last month. the boy said richard scolded him for not saying thank you before that attack happened. prosecutors charged her with assault, endangering the welfare of a minor and menacing. still to come on eyewitness news this sunday morning, a new development in the cargo multiple deaths connected to the heavy rain, wind, the flooding there. authorities have not released an official death toll at this hour. a small new development about the missing cargo ship we've been telling you about. it disappeared near the bahamas as the storm hit. the coast guard found a life ring from el fara but the ship itself and the 33 people aboard are still missing. el fara dropped communication after taking on water from 20 to 30-foot waves. >> take a look at that, streets flooded in south carolina, and the rain doesn't look to be letting up anytime soon down there. that area expected to see heavy rain through tomorrow, so the president declared a state of emergency in south carolina yesterday, which orders federal aid for the areas hit hardest by the storm. several roads in charleston still flooded out and leaders there are worried the rising waters will only get worse. >> speaking of hurricane joaquin. one of our viewers are actually in bermuda, and they texted me and said that it's starting to rain there now. they're starting to feel the effects of it in bermuda. >> oh boy. >> they're really going to get it delivered from joaquin. thankfully for us that trend has gone in a different bermuda getting flooding rainens where some of the tiny islands are covered in water. they have the combination of heavy wind and surf and they've also got drenching downpours. even for the carolinas for where they've tapped into joaquin getting additional moisture from a foot of water >> whoa. >> that's a lot. >> you guys, it was really fun this week. hundreds of people gathered in time square sort of putting the pedal to the medal. it was for a good cause, the cycle for survival. so much fun. this is really a kickoff to all the fund-raising that goes on. people were cycling to raise awareness and also raise funds for cancer research. it was so fun. we had a great time and it was a special experience for me before we rode the bikes i got to go up on stage and talk about my sister and her rare melanoma that she has and how sloan kettering was able to help her and support the type of cancer she has even though only 700 cases exist in the world. >> how's lindsey doing? >> she's doing great. she just had a three-month scan. she's clear. mother of two, she's 27 years old, so it's an intimidating thing and then to find out you're dealing with something is they want to help the most people, so typically common cancers get the funding and cycle of survival is one of those opportunities to fund rare cancers. >> wow. >> equinox is a great outlook. they also have the typical social media. wonderful cause. it's fun too while you're raising money. >> yeah, we had some good weather in time square earlier in the week. if you would have told us then that sunday would turn out to be this good, i think everyone would have had a hard time believing it with all the projections we were looking at. we'll take it. cloudy is how we'll spend the afternoon but rain free looking over the east river right now, mainly clouds in place. the winds are still kicking up. we've got a day where temperatures are going to be below average. 53 degrees in central park. humidity 61 degrees. northeast winds 10 to 18 miles an hour. so we've got a sustained breeze out there that will make it feel colder, and lows this morning did start off in the mid to upper 40s north and west, and then we had the 50s pretty much everywhere else. combine the winds with that and that's what makes it feel a little uncomfortable. you definitely need a couple layers. rough surf from those winds will continue to create beach erosion and that goes on until monday because we're still going to get some rough surf, even though the hurricane is way offshore. minor coastal flooding for the jersey shore. that is until about 6:00 tonight, and people who live in these flood prone areas are usually aware of. high tide cycles and what can happen. hurricane joaquin stays out in the atlantic, continues its push, and we'll see bermuda and bahamas have been the most affected. the other thing is that that coastal low the last couple of days for the east coast has tapped into that moisture for the atlantic and has created big flooding problems happening down in the carolinas. for us we've got the coastal flood warning for 6:00. we also have a coastal flood advisory until 6:00 for long island. that goes into the western long island sound, even parts of coastal connecticut. know where your high tide cycle is and be aware of that. we're expecting the waves to stay the biggest the longest. so from new england all the way down to the delmarva, not really looking at any rainfall. we'll see clouds and the winds and really north of the mason- dixon line once we get into the afternoon, the rain shuts off but it continues for the carolinas, is they're tapping into a little stream of upper level moisture that's being grabbed from hurricane joaquin. the projection again is way out to the northeast. it's a strong tomorrow but it's picked up speed. northeast movement right now is at 21 miles an hour. the winds will continue to be at least hurricane force it looks like until we get into wednesday, and then as it moves further out into the north latitudes it will turn into a low pressure system. cloudy and breezy, 62 for today. tomorrow we get a little warmer. the skies are going to look a little better and also the winds are going to pull back as well. it's not going to be as windy tomorrow afternoon. here's the accuweather seven- day forecast. breezy blend tomorrow is how the skies turn out. tuesday and wednesday look great. both days are in the low 70s. we'll call it a fall classic. the nice first week of october we've got planned out looks to be above average by a couple of degrees or right at the average numbers which are in the upper 60s. overnight lows for us in the 50s here in the city, well upstate. i did see a frost advisory this morning. just saying. >> it's a little bit lower. >> it's hard to believe we are to the first week of october, and usually our last 80-degree day comes within this range of either the last five days, which we shooting at their school. the suspects were arrested friday charged with conspiracy. investigators say administrators at a northern california high school contacted police last week about three victims. a group of mother's in chicago is hoping to end gun violence by bringing neighborhoods together. the group is doing it with food. now they call themselves m. a. s. k. which stands for mother's against senseless killings. they set up in neighborhoods that have seen recent violence and they cook up a really good meal and then once people start gathering, the women who organize the event take time to talk to everybody who showed up. eat my hot dogs and my hamburgers and drink my hot chocolate, we can talk about how we can fix this together. >> all of us out here out here for the are also less today. they're not gone but they're less, and while it's cloudy outside right now, this live picture over the east river, we could get brighter skies, even sunshine north up through the hudson valley and the boroughs. we get lucky and get a sun break or two. if you're further to the south, more likely the clouds hold on for long island. wind gusts are in the low to mid-20s, latest readings in the last hour has been up to 30 miles an hour. still breezy out there, lows this morning in the 40s and 50s. it's been a bit of a chilly start. we still have the the atmosphere. today. you can see here there's a bank the upper hudson valley. we also have clouds spreading shore. there are chances where the skies can brighten just a little bit, and that's what the afternoon. p.m. right through the high tide cycles because the surf is still high as well due today winds. coastal flood advisory until 6 p.m. that's not just for long island but also the western sound and parts of coastal connecticut. you could also during high tide have high water problems and minor flooding. high surf advisory goes until monday at 6 p.m. we are expecting the waves to still be up higher than average neighborhood. crews are on the scene right now after spending the night putting out some hot spots. eyewitness news reporter cefaan kim is in borough park. >> reporter: good morning to you, let me take you right to it. there is a lot going on. moments ago, jackhammers have begun demolition on that building. you might also hear chain saws in the background. that's firefighters taking out those trees so those crews can get in there and tear down that building. fire officials say they will not be heading in there. they're hoping to tear this whole thing down by sometime this afternoon. the latest by tomorrow, and of course this after all night firefighters spent here battling hot spots, now you see this whole street covered with inspectors. clearly this investigation ready to head into the next stage. it took more than 100 firefighters yesterday to battle the blaze. it was around 1 p.m. this afternoon when that explosion sent all the debris flying into the street, tearing off the apartment and were going to take that stove with them, so of course to take a stove with you, it entails disconnecting the gas line which leads us preliminarily to look in that direction. >> as you're looking at those crews clearing out all that debris, we are being told that all three of those injured are expected to be okay. they were taken to methodist hospital where they are recovering. in the meantime the governor issued a statement calling this the late nest a disturbing trend of incidents and he organized the department of public service to -- this is now the fourth gas explosion in the city since march of 2014. in borough park, cefaan kim channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you so much. the commander of u.s. forces in afghanistan says the military is opening an investigation into that deadly bombing of a facility in the northern afghan city of kunduz, the bombing at the clinic killed 19 people including 12 staff workers. nearly 40 more people including children were injured in this. in a statement, the military says its forces did conduct an air strike in the vicinity of the hospital targeting insurgents who were firing upon u.s. service members advising and assisting afghan security forces there. security is tight in israel where palestinian residents are now banned from going into the old city of jerusalem after being accused in attacks against several israelis. the palestinian teenagers in question was shot and killed by israeli police after they say the suspect stabbed several people killing two and wounding a woman and a toddler. another teen was killed after being accused of stabbing a 15- year-old israeli. israel's prime minister says he will meet with security officials today. also this morning, tens of thousands of people are evacuated from their homes this morning as a powerful typhoon that region is expected to see nearly a foot of rain as strong winds pound the coastal areas. now this comes during a week- long holiday in china as many people were headed to the coast for vacation. thousands of boats have been forced to return to port as a storm hits. there are more than a dozen fishermen missing after that same storm hit the philippines last week. a bit of a bizarre story, a florida man is facing charges after being attacking police officers in suffolk county. robert vishio was arrested hotel in river head. police say he was not a guest at the hotel but was refusing to leave the lobby when officers arrived they say vishio pulled a blade out of a backpack slashing two air forces. fans of yankees great yogi berra will have a chance to honor the hall of famer today. the yogi berra museum and learning center is holding a memorial tribute. the museum is on the campus of montclair state university. it will be open to bit of wind out there, and it's true that skies are mostly cloudy, but there are some spots where we're seeing the brightening of the skies. this particular shot, at least we've got good visibility. empire state building looking down towards 1 world trade. yesterday we didn't get a look down into the battery because of the low cloud coverage that we had. we're improving there. northeast winds still around, 10 to 18 miles an hour in the park. an hour. winds at times. here's a look at the latest as wind gusts go. it's that wind throwing the water against the shoreline that remains our problem through about 6, 7:00 tonight. temperatures could climb as much as 10 degrees. what we think will happen is that we'll see a little bit of for areas north. if you're in south jersey, if you're out on the island, you're likely going to have your clouds remaining for most of the day. some of the clouds being shoved inland or westward, and we've also got a drape of clouds coming down from the north. let's call it a mixed sky. mainly cloudy, but the chances to get brighter skies in here as well. there's a coastal flood warning until 6 p.m. we also have this coastal flood advisory for long island, also in the western sound, coastal connecticut. that goes until 6:00 tonight. there's a high surf advisory until monday evening at 6. that's because we're still up here because of joaquin, even though it's hundreds of miles offshore. what's happening from delmarva to new england things are pretty good. they're getting flooding rain down in the carolinas and once we get into the mid afternoon, it's only south of the mason- dixon line we'll continue to see problems with rain water. along the eastern seaboard, the surf will be pounded for at least the next 48 hours, even with joaquin way offshore. watch what happens with the storm. just continues that push out to sea, and diminishing in strength to a category 1 storm within the next 48 hours. they'll just continue to push into the northern latitudes, not making landfall. here's a look at the futurecast for us. pretty interesting. the clouds do stay further north and west you are, better chance for sun. they do stick around for tonight. for tomorrow, the showers are just offshore. it's another indication we're going to have energy right against the shoreline, even for tomorrow morning. hurricane joaquin spinning away from us, but still is important for our forecast because it's going to pull the energy off the eastern seaboard here as well. we've got some outer bands heading offshore. watch how it pulls the energy and takes it away from us so as we get into tuesday night and wednesday our temperatures are returning into the 70s. our skies are looking good, and there's no weather worries around here. breezy at times, 62 for the highs tonight, and then tomorrow temperatures go even warmer, 65, 70s for tuesday and wednesday. this is the first full week of october, and right through late next week our temperatures are at least at the average, slightly above it. our next chance for rain is also in the long-term friday night into saturday. we'll be watching for that early next weekend. all in all turns out to be a decent one today, especially compared to what we were staring down a few days ago with that uncertainty of the track of hurricane joaquin. a lot of people wonder what was the case, why did this happen, what's going on. well we look at a variety of computer models and so you have to take the best case scenario, and you have to take the worst- case scenario and give the advice going down the middle of where you think the track is. earlier in the week there was a lot of information, you know, that was not an optimistic outcome for us. and the best computer model is the european for tropical storms, that did trend east the entire time of the forecast. as we got closer our confidence was that was the one to choose. >> let's talk tacos. hot salsa, pour it on. >> how brooklyn. >> eyewitness news reporter cefaan kim is live in borough park with details. >> michelle and tony we have a number of developments here in the last few minutes. first you see an nypd k-9 on scene. they've also got the arson explosion unit and the nypd has set off a crime scene. fire officials say at this point they believe this was caused by tenants attempting to move a stove, but clearly investigators are not leaving anything -- [ technical difficulties ] >> we apologize. >> they'll be tearing this building down ask they hope by sometime this afternoon, the latest tomorrow this building will be completely torn down as they move forward. this is all after firefighters spending the night here battling hot spots. a much different scene than what we saw at 6 a.m. obviously this investigation is moving forward. there were three people injured. they're expected to be okay. a 60-year-old woman did lose her life. she was in that stairwell. they have not released her identity as of yet. that is the latest from here in borough park, cefaan kim channel 7 eyewitness news. thank you. we're also following breaking news on staten island where police are on the scene of a tunnel murder. police have identified the -- double murder. police have identified the victims as 27-year-old terrell ford and 28-year-old justin ford. we are told they are brothers. they were shot just before 3:00 this morning. the victims were taken to different hospitals where they unfortunately both died. another story we're following this morning, this one in queens where police are looking for the driver in a deadly hit and run. it happened just after 1:00 this morning in college point. police say 41-year-old mariano car terrace was hit while crossing the northbound lanes of college point boulevard. the driver took off and the victim died at the hospital. major cleaning up to do in this area after yesterday's storm left destruction up and down the jersey shore, north wildwood, a home swept off its foundation into the grassy sound channel. it was a vacant house. nobody lost their home. it was left drifting in the water during the height of the storm. the foundation way back on the shore, again, as we said no one was hurt. >> final check of what's going on outside with the weather today. >> we've got clouds, and temperatures are in the 50s, so it feels chilly, plus the winds are still around. so it's got a brisk feel to it. i think it's better than yesterday, and i think it's going to improve as the day goes on. the skies could even produce a little bit of brightening, perhaps even a chance to see a little blue sky from time to time. the hudson valley, you're seeing that already this morning. from time to time you could get a peek of a clearer sky, but mainly cloudy. 53 degrees currently and then we've got a high today of 62. by tomorrow its a blend of sun and clouds and temperatures are climbing into the mid-60s. we can go for a forecast that takes us into the 70s by tuesday and wednesday, and then we won't get our next chance for rain it looks like until all in all, i think we've seen a big improvement from the forecast for what we're expecting
