who was a great candidate in new hampshire. one of the best. carly had a strong run. you go down the list of candidates and you really wonder how did we end up here with donald trump versus ted cruz? i thought it was trump versus bush or trump versus walker or trump versus marco. >> christie. >> trump versus chris christie. at one point trump versus carly. but trump versus ted cruz. a guy ill equipped to be in the position he's in. >> voters want fundamental change and an interesting candidate who looks like more of the same. >> ted cruz became a candidate of the most ideological conservatives, i think. and he established that himself in that lane. >> was it a game break toward cruz toward the end here? just sort of the party in
general. the way they were coordinating things. weren't they trying -- wasn't there a subtle rigging of the game? >> they could have picked john kasich at one point. by the way, here is a national poll. yes, donald trump's ceiling 56%. you only had two choices. you had ted cruz or john kasich. and for some really weird reason -- >> voters chose him. >> i'm talking about the republican establishment. for some bizarre reason the republican establishment did not select a guy who was the first budget chairman in a generation to balance a budget, the first budget chairman since the 1920 to balance the budget four years in a row, a successful two-term governor of ohio, the most important swing state for republicans to win. and they go with toded cruz instead of john kasich. >> as if john kasich is not a conservative. john kasich is a sevenconservat >> almost nobody from the establishment endorsed him. >> what is the establishment? >> it has a lot of guys and

the other guys have. he's an outsider. people are looking for that. >> there's another reason, too. that trump's policies are different. i mean, his policy on i free trade is different. his policy on entitlements is different. >> there are more feelings. >> no. i don't think you can under estimate that working class voters actually have -- >> exactly. >> working class voters. everybody mocked and ridiculed trump's speech last week. the "america first" speech. working class workers in indiana i guarantee the majority -- why are we helping these countries that don't help us? military families. you know, what was the establishment offering to military families? more repeated deployments to hell holes around the world. and trump is offering something different. he is offering things that are different. >> we can sit here and snicker at the slogan on the east coast and the west coast the elites and everything.

he's in good shape there. we had a poll out yesterday showing about 34 points in california. >> oh, my gosh. what was that one? >> a survey usa knbc poll. we had a fox news poll come out the week before last had him up 29. he's over 50 in some of the polls. if it's anything close to that, he's going to be well above the 1237. so this is obviously cruz's last chance to stop him. even if he stop him, it may not be enough in the end. >> so john kasich 17 polls in a row has beaten hillary clinton in the general election. tell us about that. >> it's true. i mean, he's the republican that runs the best. clinton, in the polls we have now she beats trump by seven, cruz by 14 and kasich beats clinton by about seven points. he's clearly the most electable.
that's not working in the primaries. >> why is it not working? >> i don't know. we talked about some of that stuff earlier. i mean, certainly on the trump side you talk to some of the trump folks. they think the general polls are packing lies. they think donald will do better against hillary. they believe him when he says he hasn't gotten started on her. we're in a season where the electabilitiability it hasn't been as much of a benefit. it wasn't as much of a benefit to rubio and it's not providing in lift to kasich. >> give us historical perspective at the beginning of the republican candidate. i don't remember the exact numbers but trump was upside down, like, 20 or 30 points. pretty crazy, right? >> when it started? >> yeah. >> i have to look back, joe. when he got in, he actually rose pretty quickly and managed to
stay. you go back and look i kept saying we would reach peak trump and dip down a little bit and keep going back up. he's been pretty strong since he's gotten in. and it's been, as you -- we're talking about earlier it's been part of this has been his strength as an outsider. but it's also been, and the reason that the establishment had troubles it's been a perfect storm. ted cruz ended up in the position he's in because of his strength of his organization. none of the other republicans have that organization. and with 17 candidates, none of them wanting to get out, they sort of fell by the wayside. we're at where we're at in terms of the republican race. >> thank you so much. >> thank you very much. >> appreciate it. >> thanks. you know, the question is how does -- he's what down is he from hillary? 20 or 30 now? >> in the national polls? yeah. >> it depends on the poll. not 30 but -- >> 20. >> the question is -- if he wins
at the end of the night, when do you start actively working on that issue? and trying to -- >> the first step is to consolidate the republican party. and the theory of the case is once he becomes the actual nominee, once he's the only one left in the race, once he consolidates republican supports it gets tighter. there's a question can you make it the last seven or eight points he would have to do? there's a lot of mechanics to work on, too. they have to hope there are more christies in the party than romneys. >> the real politics average it's only seven points. i didn't realize it was even that tight. i had seen polls that had him way down. >> no. >> so seven points is -- >> yeah. look, i think the closer we get to november, the more these polls mean something. >> right. >> they'll actually mean something when we have two
nominees and they start -- >> and again the biggest problem we've never had before, is you look at trump and the press constantly talks about trump's high negatives. he has high negatives now. you look at hillary clinton's negatives. they don't tell that story because trump is eight or nine points higher than she is. she's in the mid 50s. that makes this race, even though that poll shows seven points, i always thought the high negatives make this race wide open. >> both have high negatives. i keep wondering what the turn out is going to be in november. given the tenor of the campaign, as we're briefly talking about. it's going to be so ugly. the two of them -- >> yeah, i guess there's a chance that overcompensating on that and ending up, you know, you've had experience running against a woman and it was complicated. i just think this is all different and it could be rough. still ahead according to

again. ted cruz is going nowhere. i think you're right. i think he's going to be around. >> ted cruz, i think you'll agree, is as nakedly ambitious a politician we've seen in many years. >> that will be useful to trump. >> he's like the richard nixon. >> yes. >> john kasich we showed a 17 l poll in a row that john kasich wins a general election over hillary clinton. do the polls not matter or do they not matter to republicans? >> i think they don't matter a lot because i think when you're in this kind of -- when you're at this distance the polls don't mean as much as we would like to attribute to them. i think in a general election john kasich would be the strongest of the candidates against hillary clinton. absolutely. i think that's true. whether the numbers we're seeing are accurate, that's the question. >> even newt gingrich said he could lose or win. where do you weigh his chances? i think his chances are probably less than a third, but maybe not
that much less. i mean, we don't know what is going to happen between now and the election. could be driven by news events. people who want the opposing party nominee to be a weak one. you don't. in a two-party country like this either candidate could win. you want the democrat or republican whom you can live with. >> can i read peter the atlantic clinton's battle plan.
>> and what did my grandmom in georgia say? never walk into a fight with a pig in the mud. >> that's not -- >> i'm not comparing trump to a pig but i'm saying donald trump wants her to get in the mud. he wins those fights every time. ask marco rubio. >> he doesn't look extraordinary terrible as fighting as nasty as he is. his big problem when i talk to people who are pro trump they love the fact he's disruptive. he's nothing like any politician they've seen before. as soon as he gets the nomination. if he does the pivots toward the center he's destroying the part of the brand that the voters who lost him most love best. i think it's a tough balancing act he has to pull off. >> than is going to be the challenge. because he's going to pivot to the center.
>> to the center or the left. he can run to the left of hillary clinton. >> talking about goldman sachs. >> actually, he's running to the left already of hillary on foreign policy. he's going to run to the left of hillary on trade. he's going run to the left of hillary on economic, on a lot of economics -- >> he's going to run to the left of hillary clinton. >> he doesn't need wall street. >> yeah, he doesn't need wall street. he doesn't need pharmaceuticals or hospital associations. >> yeah. the problem for him, i think, is that from my reading hillary clinton has a pretty good chance of bringing the obama coalition out to the polls. after her support among african-american voters has been huge. her support among latino voters will probably be through the roof. something we've never seen before. she can actually -- not her so much as trump can make latino voters a kind of political force in this country they haven't been before.

[ inaudible ] women and children. >> you say carpet bomb women and children. that's what you're going to be doing -- >> let me respond to you. it's interesting you added women and children. your candidate, donald trump, came out and said he would order our military to kill the women and children, the wives and children of terrorists, which is a war crime. when he was asked in the debate what about when soldiers don't want to commit a war crime. he's the one who said women and children. i said i'll tell them and they'll obey me. a president who thinks he's going to order american soldiers
to commit war crimes doesn't respect. i said we're going to carpet bomb isis and target the terrorists, take out their infrastructure and their command and control, take out their oil refineries. nobody would target women and children except for a bully like donald trump. sir, i respect your right to speak, but i'm going to say in america we are a nation that is better than anger and insults and cursing. i believe the people of indiana have the common sense of good judgment -- >> vote trump! everybody vote trump! >> thank you. >> work out for him? have you seen anything like that? >> are you canadian? every time you pause on the show. >> i've been trying to tell you about the pauses for eight months. >> are you canadian? >> i've never seen anything like it in my whole career. i don't know what he thought he was going to get out of it. clamatic moment where the guy

the kasich crew alliance. you know, it's the same thing with we're going pick a vp. mark is right. i think the only way you can justify it is that he was looking for a big moment, right. he can't get one against donald trump. trump won't debate him. he's looking for a way to draw the contrast. to get in the extended debate. you're in extended debate with someone who doesn't play by the same rules. in a way it's the metaphor for the entire race. ted cruz is playing -- well, sir, i hope you would be respectful. this guy doesn't care. he has nothing to lose. he's a guy holding a trump sign. he's not running for president. it's a metaphor for the whole race. the idea that ted cruz, that gene said, is going by the professional rules of debating club. another guy is like winning over the crowd like you're canadian. lying ted. you know, you're never going to win the fight. the problem is, once you're in it, you can't immediately walk

dismal numbers don't help matters. chris cillizza, what we learned is the republican party doesn't have to do one thing which is expand out the support among hispanics, which everybody is talking about in 2012. you have to do that with a candidate that also wins working class white voters. that's the lessen of 2016. it shouldn't be that hard. it shouldn't be that hard. because a lot of hispanics want the same thing that working class white voters want. but for some reason the republican party is so interested in playing divisive games that on the campaign trail from time to time that they lose
his pan -- hispanic voters. republicans haven't found a candidate that can do that. >> right. that's the coalition, without question. the problem is, george w. bush gets 40% of the hispanic vote in 2004. john mccain gets 31% in 2008. mitt romney gets 27% in 2012. that's obviously not moving in the right direction. the party is, i think, today will effectively nominate someone whose campaign was animated, at least in the beginning and continues to be by a pledge to not only build a wall along the mexico border but have mexico pay for it. you know, i hesitate to draw the pete wilson in comparison with california -- >> by the way. it's a pretty damn good point. from that point forward, the republican party in california
effectively died. >> yep. and that's the problem. one very high profile politician pushing one very high profile thing. now prop 187 went into effect. i'm skeptical, breaking news, you want to put breaking news, that the wall will get built. but point being, i still think the sort of thing that for a party that is all already struggling brand wise in the hispanic community, and really outside of whites, it's the exact -- you could argue that trump has a lot of strengths and weaknesses. it's the wrong nominee demographically speaking at the moment. >> california, frank rooney, before prop 187 it was the land of nixon. it was the land of reagan. >> yeah. and republican governors. >> yeah. a land of republican governors. >> yeah. schwarzenegger. >> we forget him. all that changed with pete wilson. >> that's right.
>> you wonder how is donald trump going to do better than mitt romney's 27% with hispanics? >> i don't see how he does. >> why? >> because there's a record of remarks here. >> yeah. has his record of remarks hurt him in any way? >> in that voting -- yeah. >> not among republicans. >> you've actually -- i just have this gut feeling he's going to have lesser problem than you think. >> one of the big questions is how much is remembered? we're in the accelerated -- the metabolism is so fast i wonder if two months from now people will remember anything that trump said a month ago. >> when i talk to latino organizations, when we talk to random latino voters, there is a passion out there and a passion against donald trump that i haven't seen before. i think that's going to come up -- >> i've seen a different passion. yeah. >> the thing is, there's been a passion for trump among working
class white voters, middle class white voters, some upper middle class white voters. but there's no doubt there is an extreme passion against donald trump in the hispanic community and republican, i will say, give george w. bush credit 1999 george w. bush and karl rove were telling anybody that would listen in 1999 if we don't figure out how to win more hispanic voters to our cause, we will lose presidential elections for the rest of our lives. they called it 17 years ago. it, other than george w. bush it's provenble to the case nationally every time. >> george w. bush won 40% of the hispanic vote. the 2016 nominee, trump, would kill for 40% of the hispanic vote. there's no question. mika, i think you are -- i think based on what we have seen, there's reason to be skeptical
of almost anything sticking to donald trump. i think there's a difference between a republican primary electorate that is going to be more primed for a trump-like message. and that demographically speaking is overwhelmingly white. i know he cites statistics like i won among hispanics but you're talking about a subsection of a subsection. >> the votes or the poll results, i'm talking about things that are inexplainable. this is man who says a woman isn't a 10 unless he has certain attributes and feels strongly with women. >> that's not the case now, though. that's not the case. and here is the question. will the elective weight of the statements that have been piling on, do they continue to weigh him down among women and hispanic? he's way down among women and
hispanics now. >> didn't he do well among women in one of the key primary states? yeah. >> surprisingly well. >> trump will lose badly if he doesn't change these things. i just think people assume he's going lay back and not try to fix it. he's going to try to fix it. maybe to be impossible but he's going try. >> nobody is saying impossible but it's an uphill battle. no doubt. >> he's going to try. when he tried to do things in his life, he's often succeeded. >> yeah. can you believe it? >> 5,000 to 1 odds. the english bookers have to pay out more $37 million even though there were like 20 bets for lester. if this was in this country, it's the single biggest sports upset and sports underdog story in a a hundred years. >> thank you. >> still ahead "morning joe."

there's a, quote, viable path. does it mean trump hitting 37? yes. you never know. you never know if trump will do something to take himself out of the race. which is why cruz wants to be the alternative and will do so, at least i'm being told, until he locks up the nomination which looks like it could happen in california on june 7th. that's the status now. i think cruz is out trying to put on a good face and try to get out the vote. they're looking ahead to nebraska and california at this point. >> so he will, regardless of the results tonight, he'll stay in the race until trump gets past 1237 or all the way to the convention? >> you know, my sense is that once trump hits 1237 cruz no longer has a viable path. that's it. it's over. at that point, inhe would get out of the race. until that happens, as one aid phrased it, it would be myopic for them to get out as long as there's a chance for cruz to

don't fall for directv. xfinity lets you download your shows from anywhere. i used to like that song. okay. 37 past the hour. let's bring in kristin welker who is following the clinton campaign. hillary clinton campaigned in coal country yesterday. we got a little taste of it. it looked like they confronted her about some things she said. how did it go? >> reporter: well, mika, she was greeted by dozens of protesters when she got to an event in williamson, west virginia. things didn't get much better when she got inside. she was confronted by a former coal worker. he said he was laid off and he really pressed her aggressively on comments she made earlier this year during a town hall in which she said her policies would lead to coal lines
shutting down and coal jobs being lost. he asked her how can we trust you when you made these types of statements. take a listen to the exchange. it's striking. >> the reason you hear those people out there saying things they say is because when you make comments like "we're going to put a lot of coal miners out of jobs." these are the kind of jobs you're effecting. this is my family. that's my future. i want to know how you can say you're going to put a lot of coal miners out of jobs and tell us how you're going to be our friend. because those people out there don't see you as a friend. >> i know that, beau. and, you know, i don't know how to explain it other than what i said was totally out of context from what i meant. i have been talking about helping coal country for a long
time. i did put out a plan last summer. it was a miss statement. what i was saying is the way things are going now, we will continue to lose jobs. what i said was that is going to happen unless we take action to try to help and prevent it. so i don't mind anybody being upset or angry. that's a perfect right for people to feel that way. i do feel a little bit sad and sorry that i gave folks the reason or the excuse to be so upset with me. bus that is not what i intended at all. i'll be honest with you, a lot of people said it don't go to west virginia. right. you know, go to california. there are more votes there. i know my chances are, you know, pretty difficult, to be honest. i'm here because i want you to know whether people vote for me or not. whether they yell at me or not is not going to affect what i'm
going to try to do to help. i feel like that's a moral obligation. >> reporter: important to point out the clinton campaign said they were not prepared for that question. that was an organic moment. they reiterate what you heard secretary clinton. her chances are going to be tough in a state like west virginia and kentucky where, by the way, this year alone 1500 coal miners lost their jobs. they're facing tough odds there. we continue to see secretary clinton, though, pivot to the general election. last night one of her campaign aids releasing new statistics to that effect. essentially letting us know how much they have raised off donald trump's women's card comments. i think we have a graphic of that, guys. in the last three days of april alone, they raised $2.4 million from 118,000 donors. more than 40% of the donors made their very first donations in the wake of those comments from donald trump. so if you're donald trump, that's something to be a little
concerned about. at the same time she's got to be careful to walk a somewhat fine line. donald trump beats her among male voters. in terms of pivoting toward the general. i'm in ohio, which is a state that already voted. secretary clinton has an event here not in indiana. why? because she has started this fight for the general. back to you. >> all right. nbc kristin welker. thank you so much. >> mark halperin, another fascinating moment with hillary clinton. you can tell it was inscript - unscripted. why in west virginia? she's right. it's an uphill battle for her in west virginia but she decided to show up anyway >>well, they've got a democratic primary coming up. she wants to run up as many delegates as she can there. and the clintons would like to expand the electoral college map. bill clinton won west virginia and it used to be reliably
democratic state. that was an uncomfortable moment because those are the kind of blue collar working class americans who will be up for grabs in a general election. >> i don't know this to be true, but it feels like usually wa ll events are kind of staged. when kristen said they were thrown off by the question, i wonder if there was a discussion after in the campaign. >> by a coal question in west virginia, i mean, you can't be thrown off by that. >> made the remarks that got so much attention. >> yeah. i don't think, you know, she was thrown off by the question. i think she probably rather expected the question. the larger point is, she was in the state speaking to people. that is a hard way to make a living. i've covered coal strikes in west virginia. i've never encountered a single miner who wants a child of theirs to have to go down into the mine.

about ted cruz and the fact establishment just doesn't like him. and the signals that the stop trump movement are sending him is that if you lose here, that's it. we're not coming back to help you begin. we're not going to raise all the money to try to help you win in california. for example. you were talking earlier about why it came down to cruz versus trump, and i think the answer to that question is religion and religious conservatives. his organization is actually focussed a lot around churches and that extends to the voters. he's the only one who has been able to consolidate any block of the republican party. the problem when he went to try to expand it to include establishment conservatives, they just weren't there for him. they don't like him. it's been a really tough sell for the stop trump people to go around saying, hey, you should not support donald trump. you should get on board with this guy, i realize you feel like he completely screwed you over and the government shut down and all these things. that sell hasn't worked. i think if he loses here, that's pretty much going to be that.

he's up about 11 points. the last go polls had him up double digits so he's in good shape there and we had a poll yesterday showing him up 34 points in california. >> oh my gosh. what was that one? >> that was a survey usa. we had a fox news poll that had him up 29. if it's anything close to that he's going to be well above the 1,237 so this is obviously cruz's last chance to try to stop him and even if he does stop him tonight it may not be enough in the end. >> california is rough. we had teased john kasich. so john kasich 17 polls in a row has beaten hillary clinton in the general election. tell us about that. >> it's true. he's the republican that runs the best. clinton beats trump by seven and beats cruz by four and kasich
beats by 7 points. the problem is that that argument is not working in the republican primaries. that's not what's motivating republican voters. >> why is it not working? >> i don't know. we talked about some of that stuff earlier. certainly on the trump side you talk so some of these trump folks. they think the general election polls are a pack of lies. they think donald is going to do better against hillary. we're in a season where the electability right now hasn't been as much of a benefit -- it wasn't as much of a benefit to rubio as he thought it would be and it's not providing any lift to kasich either. >> give me a historical perspective here at the beginning of the campaign trump was upside by 20 or 30 points, something like that. >> when this whole thing started? >> yeah. >> i'd have to look back. when he got in, he rose pretty
quickly. >> he did. >> you go back and look at the average i always kept saying i thought we'd reach peak trump and he would dip down and go back up. so he's been strong since he got in and he's been part of this -- part of this has been his strength as an outsider, but it's also been and the reason that the establishment i think has had trouble is because it's been a sort of perfect storm. ted cruz ended up in the position he's in because of his strength of his organization. none of the other republicans have that organization and with 17 candidates none of them wanting to get out they all fell by the wayside and we are where we are in the republican race. coming up we reported yesterday how warren buffet is playing down the next president's impact on the economy. we'll dig in to what's really at stake in november. plus, apple stock continues to slump as iphone sales drop.

>> i remember warren buffet when everybody was shortening america and running for the hills and freaking out, you know what, everything is cool, i'm going to double down in my investments and he did in goldman sachs and he made even more money. it sounds like he's saying the same thing here. the fundamentals are not only okay, but they're great for america's future. >> they're great for his future. he gets to do something that the average person doesn't get to do. if the u.s. economy does very poorly if long term growth collapses, warren buffet gets to shift his portfolio globally, he gets to shift it to other investments within the u.s. >> you're saying easy for him to say. >> easy for him to say, it's also wrong, but that's a separate issue. >> why is it wrong? >> there's a huge what economists might call an uncertainty tax associated with a trump presidency. janet yellen's seat is up.
who will donald trump name to succeed them? i don't think even he knows. >> and who will hillary clinton name. >> hillary clinton would probably extend their terms another time and there's a short list of people we know she would go to. there's part of the tradition of democrat and republican and trump even someone as extreme as rand paul or ron paul on the fed, at least we know what they think about the fed. >> if it looking like trump is going to win, what do you think markets will do? >> there's two major problems. there's a huge uncertainty tax so just the basic math you do you have to throw in i have no idea calculations. second the long tail, the likelihood of extreme terrible events, trade wars, wars is much much higher this is what economists call a dead weight loss. this is not a case where some
sectors win and some sectors lose, the whole economy is worse for a while. >> you think the whole financial world will be rooting for hillary clinton. >> wall street is closed minded and thinking in terms of regulation. i think they would rather trust the devil they know in hillary clinton than the person they have no idea. i think they're freaking out and they don't know what to do, but i don't think it's in any business's interests to vote for trump. >> oh my goodness. here is a statement. michael, have we had -- i was trying to go back and think of the last candidate that came out of nowhere as much as donald trump did. you can talk about ike but he beat hitler. politically whose been more of a surprise than donald trump.
>> wilkey came in and he was almost completely unknown, although he was well known to wall street, but he was a well known quantity and i don't know what warren buffet is thinking about saying it doesn't matter who is president for the economy. 1932 hoover versus roosevelt, hoover would have stuck to balanced budgets and deepened the recession. eisenhower felt stronger about trying to get a balanced budget and helped to hold off inflammation in a way that others might not have, but one i think deserves credit and that is jimmy carter who about a year before the end of his presidency as you know chose paul voker who was serious about crushing inflammation. ronald reagan deserves credit for the prosperity of the 1980s, but one reason that happened was
he said let's crush inflammatto even though it will hurt me. as you well know eisenhower hugely regretted having appointed warren, said it was his worst mistake. >> i want to bring a question back to adam because you were talking before about how the markets like serenicertainty an would go hillary clinton because they would know where she's coming from. i'm curious because donald trump is poised to become the republican nominee do you have any idea who he could possibly consider for fed chairman for treasury secretary for any of those very important positions in the american government for the american economy? >> this is what is so terrifying. we don't know -- my hunch would
be he doesn't know. i don't know that he has a view on monetary policy. what's interesting is we talk so much about democratic and republican economic policies recollections but if you look at the core people who have advised president after president after president from kennedy to now, they're almost all from a same group of economists. >> they're a club and isn't that what trump voters are trying to get rid of? you just explained why donald trump is doing so well at least in the republican primary. >> ronald reagan brought in a group of people who had a coherent view with decades of experience from the university of chicago. you could at least know what their view is whether you agree with it or not. >> it sounds like he had some wherewithal. >> it sounds like people he knows in the business community. >> we know from history treasury secretaries who come from the

probably helps. we oftentimes hear how the economy is doing has to do with whether a candidate wins a presidential election or not and i would take that one step further and say what it has to do with is how well the presidential candidate says how he frames the economic predicament. two examples, 1960 the economy was coming out of recession and kennedy made it look as if it was plungiinplunging. in 1992 the same thing was happening and clinton was able to give examples to make it look worse and trump may be able to do the same thing. >> cruz says that report is another garbage story. >> i'm curious, what policy of donald trump's, what economic policy of donald trump frightens you the most? >> i'd say the trade stuff is frightening, but the absolute
black hole of how he views the most fundamental role of government in the economy. the lack of thinking in that, the uncertainty, that frightens me. >> what does he need to do to ease some of your concerns? >> he started announcing i have a team of economic minds who are anyone's heard of who are not just business people out for their own self interests, but are proven people with a track record of thought, that would be helpful. if he started articulating a view that he's heard of monetary policy and he knows that's the single most important thing the next president will decide. more important than the supreme court, other that's important too, saying anything at all that would let us say that's what he thinks about the economy. >> would make you more comfortable. >> thank you. >> thank you. after a decline in iphone sales revenue and now its stock

time now -- >> business before the bell. apple, it keeps falling. is it time to buy, buy, buy. >> it is a bit of a historical down touurn. apple stock has fallen eight of the last reporting. apple reported a decline for the first time in a decade and since then the stock has been falling. a lot of this has to do with iphones. it's an iphone company and iphone sales have ground to a halt. so my colleague last night spoke to tim cook and he asked him about this narrative out there that apple is on its way out.
here's what cook said. >> i think that's a huge overreaction. we just had -- actually an incredible quarter by absolute standar standards. 50 billion plus in revenues and 10 billion in profits. to put that in perspective, the 10 billion is more than any other company makes, but it was not up to expectations clearly. >> cook emphasizing that apple is still guy normalus and has room to grow. he says he's never been more optimistic about kpn china, but the question is where is the next growth spurt going to come from with markets like the united states saturated with iphones. tim cook says people are still switching over and they're using a lot of these services from apple like pay and icloud which separates apple from other companies. it's a question that investors
