>> our thanks to you, dash burns, for the latest. and now, we're going to turn t the legal front. donald trump is expected t spend this weekend huddlin with his legal team as the attempt to strategize response to a possible indictment for the manhattan da's office. trump was invited to testify before a grand jury. that has been looking into a alleged 2016 hush money paymen to former porn star, storm daniels. now, there is no legal obligation for trump t testify. but an invitation to appea before a grand jury is almos always a sign that a indictment is coming trump has repeatedly denie having an affair with daniel and said he has done nothing wrong. so, joining me now is glen kershner, former federal prosecutor msnbc legal analyst and th host of the justice matter podcast, glenn, my friends, so good to see you thi morning. trump's lawyers are taking the position, though, that thi indictment is on shaky legal footing for a variety of reasons. do they have a point or is thi just posturing >> you know, katie, in my 30 years the prosecutor, i neve had a defense attorney take th position that yeah, this is strong indictment against my client, and it looks like yo got him. that is not what we hear fro defense teams. they are tipping their pr spin this case has been investigate for a very long time there have been lots of fals starts, but it looks like it i finally coming together. i think we can conclude that because when we ar investigating a case in th grand jury, we wait until th very end to indict, excuse me, to invite the target of th investigation to testify some people might ask, well, why only indict? why not subpoena , while turkey is the person w are intending to indict. the target has a fifth amendment right against self incrimination. we can't subpoena them and compel their testimony however, we can invite the because we are - it feels like the prosecutor are on the verge of asking the grand jury to vote out a indictment against donald trump, but they're going to give hi the opportunity to come in and address the grand jury and say you know what? all a big misunderstanding i did nothing wrong. i committed no crimes. now katie, you and i both know donald trump will not accept the invitation to testify unde oath before a grand jury >> when, we know michael cohen i -- he has been dating the office. he has been there so many times, but he's due to testify before the grand jury and manhattan next week. how does disappearance befor the grand jury signal that trump will be indicted >> it feels like that is the last face the prosecutors need to touch, locking in michael cohen's grand jury testimony t preserve it and use it at future trial so, 99 times out of 100, thi is the very last step. putting one of the mos important witnesses before the grand jury, inviting the targe to testify,, so ordinarily what we would next see is an indictment but donald trump seems to be one in 100 kind of guy when it comes to avoidin accountability so, katie, i will believe that new york intends to indict donald trump as soon as i am reading a publicly release indictment myself. >> glenn, there is that saying you can run but you can't hide right? >> i think he is, good morning katie. i think he is clearly racing t distinguish himself and be abl to sort of past the purity tes as a republican candidates i an anticipated announcement in early may. he has taken some criticism, i think from kristi noem's specifically, and others tha going from 24 to 15 wasn't far enough so, he has to do the checklist of things necessary to be republican candidate >> a proposed concealed weapon bill we talked about a minut ago would also eliminate the need to have a permit to carry a firearm, meaning n background check, no fingerprinting, and zero training how are florida democrat working to fight back, especially at a time when gu violence it's the number one cause of death for children in the united states? >> so actually, the very first committee meeting where it was presented, we had pola opposites. we have students and mom demand action urging us to vote, and everyone to vote no on the bill because it amounts again basically, another checklist items that is necessary fo desantis law enforcement will not support open carry they find that - carry is something they coul compromise on, as close as h could possibly get, but even gun rights advocates actuall classify and characterize th bill as woke and dilutive. so, we have both extreme sides that don't like it and realize that it's just like th political theater. but it's very dangerous. to take a firearms course, a least, it teaches you how to load it and safe operation we are doing away with that, and that is really a problem the bigger issue is it's yet another in a series of bills i proposals that come forward to our solutions for problems tha are not supposed to exist. by that, i mean, he has bragge about we're at a 50-year crime low, but yet, this is someho necessary. it follows just like elections it follows just like the ant riot bill, bragging about ho star-spangled great florida's, but all the solutions that com after it to remedy what they say is a crisis in those situations >> and jason, the florida go has also introduced bills that not only expand don't say ga now to eighth grade, but there's new proposals that are taking aim at colleges they are gunning diversity equity, and inclusion programs and eliminating colleg programs like gender studies what are you saying to you constituents who are worried about these draconia restrictions on their education?
