Winter, yes, winter, settles in the delaware valley. And today is sunday november 20th, good morning, im rahel will solomon. Lets get started with a check on wet ther with Justin Drabick and eyewitness weather and talking about this w word, winter. Yes. Yes. It is all coming together. My uber driver said i think we will get snow. I said i dont think so. We will go back and forth. But there is this, 2 inches north of the city. We have not seen anything here in the city. We will get a stay flurry today maybe. Maybe not. I do like it. Taking those selfies, showing off uggs or whatever. You are just jealous you were werent in the selfie, but we will get you next time. We will hold you to it. Winter conditions, really next 24 hours, really this week, temperatures will be running below average, colder then what we should be for late november. Really story is the wind we will be bat tolling day. Wind chills down to the 20s and 30s. We have sunshine right now, dont expect to see a whole lot today. That sun will not do much to the temperature. The right now were at 40, maybe up another five or 6 degrees, that is bit. West wind sustained at 22. That will increase morning in the afternoon. That is because of the strong cold front that came through yesterday. We felt difference. We were at 72 for the high. Today stuck in the mid 40s at best. Those whipping wind out of the north are running the actual air temperatures about 10 degrees above average. Wind may be gusting up to 50 over the next 24 hours, and that is why wind advisory in effect for the entire region. It has been extended until 6 00 oclock monday morning. So Power Outages are possible. The current gusts up to 30 in allentown. Twentyfive in trenton. Near 40 in lancaster. That puts wind chills down in the mid 20s in the Lehigh Valley. Twentyeight in reading. Feels like 30 in philadelphia. Those marathon runners, tough guys out there. They are running that race. And few snow showers, well to our north and poconos, this hour, maybe a stray snow flake in the Lehigh Valley, maybe northern bucks or Montgomery County. Mid 40s for actual air temperatures around philadelphia, upper 40s at the shore, in the the 30s in the poconos. Those wind chills in the 20s and 30s. These air temperatures mean nothing. Let you know how long this last and we will talk about our next storm moving in for thanksgiving day, talking about it the in a few minutes. Back to you. Well, today is the day, 30,000 runners have been training for as they pound pavement and in the 23rd annual philadelphia marathon. Cherri gregg from our sister station kyw news radio is live along ben franklin parkway with more, cherri, good morning. Reporter good morning, rahel. Im moving to the finish line where we are expecting the run tours get here in an hour or 15 or 20 minutes or so. They have started running at 7 00 oclock about an hour ago and now here at the finish line it is extremely busy. We have a lot of volunteers sort of pick up those clothes that the runners shed as they cross that start line, all of the clothes are picked up, bagged up, washed, and given to charity. They are also setting up the swag zone where runners can pick up their medals once they get here and solar blankets that are being added in this area so that people can get warm once they get to the finish line. Now the biggest challenge is taking a look at the footage we have from the race start, the biggest challenge that these 30,000 runners who are participating today will have, of course, it is this wind. They will likely be running in packs, so they are able to block the wind, and then rotating who is on the outside taking the brunt of it all as they run these 26 plus miles. The good news is that there are lots of cheer zones all along the race route, and that will keep those runners focused so they are able to make it through. I should say that i mean today they have a very nice route from the eakins oval to parkway to race street up to columbus boulevard and around chestnut to mlk drive and kelly drive to manayunk and finishes right here at ben franklin parkway. So it takes about two hours and about 15 minutes or so for the most elite runners and it takes those who have a little bit less experience up to about four hours, to finish this, but it is a blustery day, but it takes a lot of mental stamina to get through it and of course hopefully those cheer sows will help them get through this days. Live at the finish line for the philadelphia marathon im cherri gregg for kyw news radio for cbs3 Eyewitness News. Very good, point, mental stamina and warm thoughts indeed. Okay, thank you. That is the gift to us, that when ethan signed that donor card, for his license, we would have never saw it coming but his gift became our gift. Gift of life family house provides home away from home for patients receiving transplantrelated care in philadelphia. Very nice to see. Justin, turning to thanksgiving and our thanksgiving day forecast, it is hard to believe we are at end of the november but when you walk outside it is starting to feel like it. Big difference from yesterday in the 70s. Now we have wind chills in the 20s. Marathon runners out there right now, less than an hour and probably already getting finished already. That is nuts. Yes. I could probably go a mile in these conditions. It is rough. Props to them. We have seen snow flying. Check it out. Monroe county, broadheadsville where we have had snow showers all morning long. We can see a coating on the grass areas and we have had other reports of berks county, Lehigh Valley, some reports of some snow from last night, as that cold air rapidly moved in and changed that rain over to some snow. But again, a few snow flakes throughout the morning and afternoon for poconos, maybe Lehigh Valley today. Just windy, cold conditions, really for the next few days, yesterdays high 72 degrees, officially at philadelphia international. That was at 2 00 in the afternoon. By ten we were already in the upper 30s. 34degree drop in just eight hours. That is how strong that was. It certainly means business. Big difference. I mentioned some snow, reports to the north of us, salisbury township in lehigh county, it is all about elevation with this. Just over 2 inches of snow. Huffs church this berks county, 2 inches. Forks township half inch of snow. In gilbertsville,. 3 of an inch of snow. We had a trace in mount holly, new jersey. Other reports of the trace or so. So again northern new jersey, into the mountains, two or 3 inches from that system last night. Pretty impressive. Forty at the airport. Thirtyseven in reading. The these are air temperatures. That means nothing. We will talk about strong wind making it feel colder but heres the source of the cold air, upper midwest, southern can inadequacies, mid 20s in minneapolis. That cold air continues to spill southward. So temperatures are going to be struggling to budge into the low to mid 40s this afternoon. Still some snow showers breaking out central western pennsylvania, steady snow, upstate new york, right now, that is the area or the snow that we saw last night through parts of the region. Those snow showers coming into the poconos, and the northern suburbs this afternoon. Not much though, it will not amount to to anything other than that, maybe a few peaks of sunshine, clouds are pretty much going to rule the afternoon and then tomorrow we will start to clear out, dry, still windy though, and chilly for this time of the year but at least were dry. Travel conditions looking good for the next few days, and leading up to thanksgiving, and we planned to head outside, weatherwise, wind he though, gusts of 45 today and tonight, and tomorrow it is still windy, for the first half of the day, we could have gusts up to 40 miles an hour. Wind advisory continues until 6 00 a. M. Now while the wind, sticking around . Well, we have a strong low pressure system over Northern New England right now, High Pressure to the south, and difference between high and low, pressure that causes that wind. So it is that tight Pressure Gradient and not Much Movement n systems over the next 24 hours. So they really didnt separate each other, from each other, so we still have that tight Pressure Gradient. Strong wind continue into monday. Wind chill values this afternoon may get up to the mid 30s. That is it. And then tonight it will get cold and feeling really cold. Lower 20s, teens in the suburbs, early tomorrow morning into the afternoon. Pretty much similar to today. Wind chills stuck in the the 30s. And afternoon high, up to 46, that is 10 degrees below average. Partly to mostly cloudy skies. Cold tonight. Thirtytwo. Chill continues through the week, and at least wednesday or thursday through 50 but wind backs off. Showers around thursday. Not a big deal. We will dry out heading in the upcoming weekend, good news for holiday shoppers, rahel, back to you. Good news indeed, back to you. 8 21. Lets check on those roads with Amanda Buehler in the cbs3 Traffic Center. Hi there, rahel. We are looking at most recent road closure from the philadelphia marathon right now. Close enough to the door where we will get waves from the warmth from the heater inside here. It is not all that bad. It cannulas a few minutes out here but darn right harsh wind chills, feeling like 20s in spots through the Morning Hours and then again tomorrow morning. Look at these sustained wind over 20 miles per hour. They will increase in the morning and afternoon. We could have gusts close to 50 miles an hour. That is enough to take down smaller trees and tree limbs, could cause Power Outages over next 12 to 24 hours. Wind advisory continues until 6 00 a. M. On monday morning for the entire region. Heres what it feels like right now these numbers have come down over past three hours because of the increase in wind. Twentyfive is what it feels like on exposed skin in allentown. Thirtytwo in wildwood. Degree below freezing in dover. Those numbers arent going to change a whole lot in the afternoon hours. Actual air temperatures, not terribly cold but they are running 10 degrees below but the wind is the problem. These morning wind chills will be stuck in the 20s and maybe a few snow flakes flying to the northwestern suburbs especially up to the poconos where we are seeing them right now. Other than that we will have partly to mostly cloudy skies, throughout your sun is day, and then again, actual air temperatures, 40s but it is not enclose to feeling like that. And as we prepare for thanksgiving the signs of the next holiday are already all around. Eyewitness news in the city hall courtyard where dozens showed up for preview weekend at christmas village. Village moves from city hall to the usual location of love park but will offer the same german charm and shopping and food. It officially opens up november 24th. Justin is beginning to feel, and look a lot like christmas. Little rough, and, we need heavier coat on right there. Get used to it. It is sticking around, strong wind and chilly wind for the next few days. Good travel plans, or conditions, right now, and heading in the holiday. No problems there. Talk about that in a bit. This morning it is cold, not terribly cold. Not setting record but wind, that is problem. We will check with our backyard from our weather watchers. Generally everybody is the same. Mid to upper 30s with lower 40s. Thirtyeight in eagleville, willow grove, john in mullica checks in at 39 degrees. Cooler in west chester and, Steve Johnson has 36. Fortyone both in cherry hill here from Jenny Janssen and lynn springer. Phil chapline has 39 degrees. Fortyone in lawrenceville. Michael riley in sanatoga has 37. Mentioning the wind, they will increase, throughout the morning and they could gust to 40, maybe close to 50 miles an hour later today into tonight, sustained wind in west chester from steve at 24 miles an hour. Near 15 in willow grove. And in cherry hill. As wind increases wind chills will go down, certainly feeling more like winter and it is looking like winter in the poconos. Check this out, snow covered the ground here, were looking live at big boulder. That is not manmade snow, that is the snow, from yesterday evening, as that front came through, starting off with some rain and quickly changed over to snow, a few inches in carbon, Monroe County and they are coming off a High Temperature of 60 degrees, and then they were dealing with snow last night. Still more snow showers to come w that a Winter Weather advisory has been issue for carbon and Monroe County until 4 00 a. M. Monday morning for those heavier snow showers and squals. They will break out. If you are traveling up through the poconos, over the next few hours just beware, reduced visibility, quick dusting of snow, on some of the roads up there, with temperatures, holding in the 30s, all day long, and then look at yesterdays ahead of the front, 70s, yes, 72 the high in philadelphia we will rapidly drop in the 30s by late evening, as that front came through, today, stuck in the 40s, for actual High Temperatures, and it feels a whole lot colder with that wind. Splits up pattern a little bit, jet stream taking a dive southward for the next few days. So at least through wednesday we will be dealing with the cooler pocket of air moving from canada, that allows High Temperature to stay below average. Cooler then normal heading in to thanksgivings. Snow showers across western pennsylvania, central pennsylvania, steady snows, in upstate new york and that is area of snow we dealt with that came through poconos last night. Still snow showers breaking out, in the poconos at this hour. Flurries could get in the Lehigh Valley, maybe far northern suburbs of the montgomery and bucks. Storm really doesnt move a lot, it strengthen, it has wind energy with this. That wind stays over us for next 24 hours. Get used to these windy conditions, stick around through at least monday, and finally High Pressure will start to move in on tuesday, that kicks out the storm, wind starts to relax, turns out to be a nice day, tuesday, into wednesday, and sunshine, calmer wind, good travel conditions so we have no storms to deal with leading up to thanksgiving. So wednesday is a big day for travel and should stay dry. Thanksgiving itself we will talk about rain. Wind currently gusting to 30 miles an hour close to 40 in lancaster but you in time we will start to increase as we head through afternoon and evening gusting in the mid 40s, maybe close to 50 miles an hour tonight. Could lead to Power Outages, down trees and limbs. Tomorrow the same deal, wind gusting to near 40s especially in the Morning Hours. Wind chill values this afternoon dont improve much. Still feeling like low to mid 30s, it will be a cold night tonight, teens, 20s for wind chills. Rahel is working tomorrow morning. She will be complaining on her way in to work, i guarantee it. Thanks, justin. I know you cant wait to show off your winter coat and your uggs. I have been wearing this since september. Im sure you have. And monday afternoon, kind of like today, not much change. Fortysix, that is it for High Temperature. Dry tonight, partly to mostly cloudy. Thirtytwo for the low. Heres that extended forecast, dry pattern but just cool. Fortys for next few days. Mid 50s returning on thursday, thanksgiving but there will be showers around, black friday shopping looks good, and friday with highs in the 50s, again. Justin, i have been so nice to you today. And now im in virginessee. See how much you could save on Car Insurance. Or am i in tennaginia . Hmmm. Eagles were a sixpoint under dog to the seahawks this afternoon. Seattle won four out of five games with the bird. So what eagles team will show up to day at century link field . The one that is unbeaten at home giving up under ten points a game or the squad that has been onefour on the road surrendering over 24 points a game . Seahawks are 31five at home since 2012, they are second best scoring defense in the entire league. We have been able to win at home, which is really important. Now you need to be able to go get some games on the road. This is one of the hardest layses to win, and it is a great challenge for us as a team and it would be a big win for us. I think were right there. Obviously we have figured that out at home, and it is what better way to kind of correct those mistakes by, you know, going into one of the toughest places in the league and getting a win. So can eagles hand seahawks their first home loss of the season . Find on it today at 4 25 right here on cbs3. Our coverage begins with toyota sunday kick off at 1 10. That is all for sports. Im leslie van arsdal. Have a great day. Go bird. One last check of the forecast, a drastic drop. Seattle is probably better place to be right now. I think so to get out of the wind and chill. Snow is flying in the poconos, a few flurries possible northwestern suburbs, 40s for highs today and tomorrow but it will feel like 20s and 30s factoring in the wind. At least were dry leading up to thanksgiving. Travel plans looks good. Thanksgiving day itself 50s guy but a few rain showers. It should not cause any problems. Justin, thank you.
