"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo live outside st. christopher's hospital with the latest on their conditions. good morning,. >> good morning, little girl behind me here at st. christopher's hospital this morning in extremely critical condition. her mother, and an off-duty philadelphia police officer, tried to rescue her from her bedroom yesterday when her house caught on fire. this fire landed them in the hospital. over the scene, the 3700 block of heifer lane in northeast philadelphia. this is around 5:30. fire crews arrived to find heavy fire and smoke, billowing from the home. now, before fire crews arrived, off duty philadelphia police officer, who lives across the street, tried to help this family who was trapped inside. the flames were just too intense, though. fire crews were able to rescue that five year old little girl in the back bedroom. she, her mother, than off duty philadelphia police officer, were all taken to the hospital with varying degrees of smoke inhalation. now, that police officer is okay. so the mother is now in critical condition, expected to survive, the little girl, though, is fighting for her life. >> this incident is a great reminder, if you don't have a smoke detector call 311, ask for a smoke alarm, we'll be out the next day to install that smoke alarm. >> now, this fire is still under investigation. fire officials are trying to determine if this home had working smoke alarms, they're also trying to determine a cause, but at this time, they do not believe that this fire was intentionally set. we're reporting live outside st. christopher hospital, jan carabeo, cbs-3, "eyewitness news", jim, brooke, back into you. >> thanks a lot, jan. dispute between neighbors sends nearly dozen bullet flying in a wild shoot-out overnight. at least ten shot were fired during a fight at thoron avenue and washington lanes in west oaklane, luckily no one was hit. two people were arrested. police recovered two guns at the scene, as well. >> developing right now in fort hood texas, search resumes for several soldiers still missing after their army truck flipped in flood waters. two-ton truck was toppled by a swift current, around 11:30, yesterday morning. military officials confirm the bodies of at least five soldiers were recovered yesterday from a creek. three more soldiers are in stable condition, we will have a live report on this story coming up in 30 minutes. >> chester county authorities have a strong message for the person who killed a pre k teacher. twenty-four year old ryan benjamin was found on memorial day in a shallow creek in east coventry. her body was tied to a cynder block. chester county da tom hogan says benjamin died before she was dumped in the water. he stopped short of calling what happened a murder, but says, somebody knows something. >> he knows we're coming for him. he looks guilty. best thing for him to do is come forward, come to authorities, tell us what happened. >> if you have any information on this case, you are asked to call police. >> the 2016 presidential candidates are criss-crossing california, ahead of the state's critical primary tuesday. violence errupted outside of donald trump rally in san jose yesterday. a dozen or more people were punched, some demonstrators pounded on the car, the people leaving the rally. and trump hats were set on fire, and left burning on weakening, thankfully, as it moves our way. still have moisture to work with for sure, and that said, down the shore right now, what's lead to go some of the fog and the gray skies. it is quite dreary, to start the day in most locations here, but again, watch for fog locally at the shore point, even up in the mountains, but here is the rain. again, there are some pocket where it is coming through heavily most notably western chester county but generally light rain otherwise for the rest of you. some you of you aren't seeing a drop of rain, humidity become being more notable. this front as i mentioned is weakening with time. won't have to deal necessarily with any severe weather threat although could be thunderstorm second half of the day. if you are headed to the shore, again, expect more clouds than anything. still some showers, possibly a thunderstorm as the day progresses, but the uv index stays low as a result. temperature at best into about 74 degrees, water temperature getting there, so little cool for my personal taste, i prefer it to be about 86 degrees, so, i've got some time to kill here i think. rip countries being thankfully also still low. so i have a feeling we'll see surfers, weather never bothers them. the uv index, notice, little bit of a roller coaster that takes effect here. and that's because by tomorrow, we start to brighten up little bit. so saturday, certainly look being like the nicer of the two weekend days, as we move it forward in the eyewitness weather seven day forecast, yes, more wet weather to common sunday, this actually, the next three days, guys, looks like it is the worse day of the pack, because, the next system that comes along is a bit more potent. could be stronger storms at that point. and unfortunately a loft event going on on sunday, you have got the biking classic, unfortunately not looking like the best weather right now, but starts to brighten up of course as we head back to work overturned on 476, take a look, it is kind of blocked by the pole here but you can get a good look at the overturned vehicle. this is 476 northbound at the schuylkill westbound. that cop car just showed up, just moment ago. no report of injuries or anything like that just yet. this is very fresh. so again, it is on the ramp 476 northbound at 76 westbound so there might be some delays as of right now. looks like things are moving okay. as they start to clean this thing up, might be problems down the road. let's take a look at 95. this is 95 southbound at cottman, your normal problem spot, as you head toward the city of philadelphia. it is backed up now at 6:14 in the morning, you guys should be used to this, as you know and go this way pack your patience in the morning. vine, vine looks great this morning. little bit of wet roadways, not ton of brake light. looks like things are moving beautifully between the schuylkill and 95 on vine st. not so much though on roosevelt boulevard, between third and ninth street. there is a power outage near seventh street. a car smashed a pole. that caused a bunch of problems. there is a traffic light malfunction in that area, that also, caused some delays, on the broad street line on septa, at the ridge spur northbound and southbound service has resumed, so that's a good thing. you will use the alternate route four or the route 16 bus. also, on the map, route 422 eastbound at stowe, just past pottstown pike. there is road buckling, so they are cleaning up that mess, but no word yet on up when that will reopen. also, a truck fire, 295 northbound, before florence and columbus, it is on the right shoulder, use the turnpike or 130, as an alternate route. jim, brooke, over to you. >> thanks, pat a lot going on out there. today. looking at storm scan at the moment, do you have rain coming through somewhat steadily specially across central western chester county, not everyone getting hit at this hour, but when you are walk out the door in the, it is cloudy, certainly quite humid, as well, and this is going to be with us, the brunt of which, you know, falling through the course of the morning, but really any time even later today, could you still see hit or miss shower if not rumble every thunder. i don't expect severe weather that's good thing. meanwhile, this morning, another sort of localized impact that we're finding, some patchy fog in coastal delaware, new jersey, visibility is currently under a quarter after mile or it could be, if you're finding some of the fog, even as i look just off camera at one of the shore cameras ocean city find that now, solo down, use the low beams, should be more of immediate coastal issue, but, regardless, you could see some of it maybe funnel in to those load ways that are closed to the coast. meanwhile, temperatures as they stand mid 60s generally around the board, little cool by comparison up in the mountains is typical. hit the mid 70s generally in the resort towns here today, don't expect heck of a lot of sunshine but we will at least flirt with seasonable 79 if not 80 degrees high here in philadelphia today. coming up talking about the week edge more on the way, south of houston, could be another three, 4 inches that fall, just through this weekend alone, and that also includes portions of louisianna, alabama, mississippi coastlines, so they are really getting a rough go of it down this way lately. so you know i know we complain about the rain, but could be so much worse, and these poor folks really dealing with a lot. switch gears, though, bring us back to what's happening here at our local level. check in with the waters. a lot reporting this hour, many really checking in in the mid 60s, definately mild, you're going it notice it feels a lot stickier outside. let's check in with handful. go on out to ed out in chesterfield reporting some line fine rain, some drizzle at this point at 62 degrees. there you go. slight drizzle
