"eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us now in olney with the latest, justin, good morning. >> reporter: erika, good morning, police say there were cameras inside that bar, and also outside the bar, and they believe soon they will know what happened, and what left this man now fighting for his life and a woman with four gunshot wounds at einstein medical center this morning. >> a fight labor day night at the 55 north bar off the 500 block of olney avenue, one of two crime scenes, in a overnight double shooting vehicles. >> the scene is filled with broken glass from the fight, other trash, other debris. so pretty hard to find the shell casings. >> hard to find because a mid the mess only one spent semiautomatic shell casing was found. police know at least five shots were fired. nearby, just before 12:30 a.m., officers found a 22 year old man shot once in his chest, and the woman, age 24, struck twice in her stomach, and twice in her leg. police got her to einstein medical center, medics took that man there, too, where he was returned into surgery. police say a dust-up errupted inside the bar before spilling outdoors, and before at least one person grabbed their gun. >> we believe that everyone who was shot and the shooters were all inside the bar prior to the shooting taking place. >> we know there is cameras in the bar. so hopefully they were recording before this incident took place inside and possibly recorded outside. >> not far from the bar, police saw a man running on the 500 block every elkins avenue. and after he was seen tossing a weapon, and reportedly trying to hide from authorities, he was pick up for questioning. though his role in the shooting, if any, was not initially known. >> he is in custody, transport today northwest detective, due to the fact that while fleeing from police, he threw a gun down on the highway. >> reporter: back out live, and once here, northwest detective police say that man was not initially cooperative. he had no id on him. but police do believe he is about 25 years old. now that man at last check was in very critical condition at the hospital. that woman, stable, and expected to recover. we are live outside northwest detective, i'm justin finch, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". justin, thank you. meanwhile, philadelphia police are working to pinpoint what caused a crash involving attacks i cab, that struck and killed two pedestrians in center city. an amanda, of phoenixville, and ryan body of baltimore, were crossing broad street near arch street when the taxi struck them around 4:30 yesterday morning. the driver with the rosemont cab company stopped. >> the good thing here, he didn't leave the scene. so we have a lot more than we would have for all of those that do leave. he did the right thing. >> the cab driver went to the hospital with chest pains. police say there were no passengers inside the cab at the time. no charges have been filed. >> firefighters are making progress battling a forest fire burning in burlington county, new jersey. it is about 50% contained this morning. chopper three was over the scene in woodland township yesterday. this is the area of wood mansy road north of route 72. that fire burned over the county line in ocean county. fortunately, there no homes or structures in danger. 6:05 right now, weaver been waiting for this night since david letterman retired all those month ago. stephen colbert will remake the late show in his own image when it premiers tonight right here on cbs-3. (applause) great to hear they're okay. boy trapped for several hours in a well nearly 25 feet deep. the hole was only about a foot and a half wide. authorities say the boy was alert and talking with the rescue team, the entire time he was trapped. >> we had all of the volunteer fire department here, the sheriff's office, brookhaven fire department, i just can't say enough about what everybody did to get this little boy out that far well safe. >> crews sent water down to the boy to help keep him hydrated. his dog was also rescued just short time later. >> still ahead this morning, on room. rescue crews in lower merion just pulled a man from that car, after it went down the roadway and crashed down an embankment. at mill creek road, grace lane, lower merion police officer spotted the car, sitting in the creek bed, then called for help. no word right now on the drivers condition. but authority tell us, they think this accident actually happened sometime between 7:00 and 8:00 last night. that means that driver was stuck in the car for at least nine hours, just terrific the officer spot that car, got some help, but just fine hours in a car out in the heat. long time to not thinker kay just touched base on, that so you know, mill creek is closed, because of this accident, for those of in you and around the area. i'll let you know that clears, just make note of that. also, walter make bridge, before route 90, the right lane is blocked in this area, as well. so, as we start to get more and more vehicles out on the roadways, we start to have more and more things starting to happen. that's what we're seeing. also made in america festival this past weekend. we do have clean up on the roads. but all of the roads now completely open. >> clock ticking for steven the bonds roo redeem to pay for qualified higher education expenses. but, you know, interest rates are solo, so a lot of people abandoned those bonds, and they go into something called a cover del education savings account. now, you can put almost any investment inside of this. you are limited to certain taxpayers. meaning, if you make too much mine, you can't use the cover dale. single filers, who earn less than $110,000, joint filers who earn less than 220,000, you can use the cover del, the motorcycles mum contribution is $2,000 per year per beneficiary, from all sources, now, remember, cover dale can be used for both college, private, elementary or high school costs. my favorite vehicle for college is the 529 plan. tax advantage investing, again, only for college and postgraduate ringing, been a tradition here in philadelphia, and because of all of the things, all of the talent that we've had associated with the beginning of school, we haven't done it in the last two years, we want to restart that tradition here if philadelphia. we're excited about this first day of gloom what are you most excited, any new programs maybe? >> quite a few. one over at carver where they are beginning at the engineering science school to welcome seventh and eighth graders there. and they are going to have a spin program throughout the year and week toned provide for student who live in that neighborhood. >> that's terrific. now, also we want to touch on this quickly. we did get some results from state test scores that english and math scores will declined, but also new test this year. what do you think of those results? >> yes, this is the first assessment that was based on the new more rigorous stap cards, core standards of pennsylvania, our result mirrored those across the state. >> right. >> wherever district saw declines. and so, because there are new more rigorous assessment it, doesn't support our apples to apples comparison, simply because it is new material, it will take us some time to get associated and familiar with those materials. and it is a different assessment. so, we always had work to do. we still have work to do. this will serve as new baseline for us. >> why those terrific new tools to have with that work, is new technology. last week yes in a school that had new ipads, having microphone problems but i think all hook up now, so we saw some student using ipads. how are you incorporating new technology? how important is it? >> made significant inch investigatement, added almost 40,000 pieces of equipment, hardware, in the form of ipads, other tablet, computers, particularly, mobile computer unit that are available in our schools, so we're real excited about also providing access to those types of technologies for young people. >> how are those important for these student in i remember learning how to type. that will was so important for my generation. >> yes. >> how important is it this computing do you think for kids today? >> oh, access to information. and access to very important information. and we want children to be problem-solvers and critical thinkers, and be based on the whole process or subject of inquiry. and the technology allows him to do that, allows tonight err act with information that's out there. it is free, and so we want our children to have access to those materials, those resource. >> we have about 30 seconds left. i want it ask you one last question. so many teach verse touched our lives. and one teach kerr make such a different. was there anyone teacher in your life that you really connected with? >> a few, but third grade teachers miss bothwrite, the reason i am here today. she was so incredibly powerful. as i was learning to read, and becoming a boy, and doing all of those things,
