"eyewitness news" reporter steve paterson live outside st. christopher's hospital for children where that young victim was flown steve, good morning. >> reporter: good morning nicole. the those details still coming in the news room this morning but we do know this a young new born child, was apparently, doused in some sort of a flammable liquid, set on fire and then shipped here to st. christopher's hospital for treatment. i want to take you to the scene. we have video from the the scene there in pemberton new jersey. simon town road. investigators on the scene this morning. sources telling cbs-3 of a horrific incident last night that shortly after 11:00 o'clock neighbors witnessed the infant's young mother in her 20's. they say she was screaming douse ago this child in some sort of a fluid and then setting the child on fire. the the child again was flown to st. christopher's hospital, here with second and third degree burns. those burns were all over, 100 percent of that child's body. we are awaiting in more word from hospital officials on the status of the child, as well, as a possible criminal investigation, from police, again, those details, still developing right now this morning. reporting live from st. christopher's hospital i'm steve paterson for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> all right steve thank you. and new this morning police are investigating a shooting in north philadelphia victim was shot in the leg just after 3:00 o'clock. it happened near corner of dauphin street and north van pelt street. the person was rushed to temple hospital in stable condition, so far, no arrests have been made. a 16 year-old is under arrest accused of stabbing another teen to death. this happened at forty-sixth and market streets friday afternoon. now police say an argument that began during lunch at west philadelphia high school spilled in the after school hours. the the teen victim was rushed to children's hospital but succumbed to his wounds. history is made all over again, the late joe paterno once again stand as college football's winningest coach this is after ncaa strikes a deal on university sanctions. now students at penn state gathered in front of the old main this picture posted on twitter by on ward state. it shows the crowd chanting 409 and joe paterno. "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco has details from upper darby. >> reporter: a philadelphia man is in jail after trying to run down an upper darby police officer on 69th street on friday afternoon. the female officer pulled her gun. >> she fires one shot at the vehicle and the shot enters through the window of the vehicle, and the vehicle then knocks over two or three parking meters and we had them boxed in we thought but he drove right up on the sidewalk. >> reporter: police were conducting a raid on the suspect who sold drugs to undercovers on four separate occasions. he got away jumping in his car and ramming front door of the furniture store and gunning for the the officer. police pulled him out of the car where the window was shout out, inside, bundles of heroin fell out and semiautomatic weapons. on the suspect they found thousands of heroin and crack. >> we have a load of dope, four buys off of him we've got a gun, he will be in jail a long time. >> reporter: neither officer or suspect were injured in the incident. the the suspect is in custody at this hour and he will likely be charged with attempted murder in addition to other drug related offenses. in upper darby, i'm diana rocco for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". new this morning, bad weather, forced pope francis to cut short a visit honoring victims of the 2013 deadly super typhoon. this is video of the holy father returning to manilla a. earlier francis met with family members. he told more than 100,000 faithful it was a difficult day to find the right word to comfort them. pope's visit culminates with mass tomorrow where as many as 6 million people are expected to attend. very long line for communion, for sure. still ahead on "eyewitness news" falling gas prices have drivers feeling happy, in new jersey. >> reporter: $1.85 a gallon are you kidding me? south jersey is loving this cheap gas. i'm cleve bryan coming up i'll tell what you low fuel costs mean to our local okay buddy what's your favorite kind of cheerios? honey nut. but... chocolate is my other favorite... but apple cinnamon is my favorite too... and fruity... oh yeah, and frosted! okay, but...what's you're most favorite of all? hmm... the kind i have with you. me too. rock bottom gas prices are helping new jersey businesses, bottom line. gallon. >> every time i fill up my tank for $15, i get so excited. >> little bit more than 20 bucks. it is really nice too. >> reporter: when driving is a big part of what you do as a living low fuel prices make an impact. >> the lower the better. >> reporter: when gas was high flowers by sweet ins in woodbury in washington township was spending hundreds of dollars each week to fill their delivery van. now with valentines day approaching delivery cost won't eat up the profit. >> we will be filling up quite a few times, for sure. so vans don't have good mileage. >> reporter: feeling savings on a degrees. that is the other problem today. not a lot of wind but temperatures as low as they are that any wind makes it feel very coal. 14 degrees our friends, in newark delaware, delores lee, she says 14 degrees. very cold, calm in wind. clear, beautiful sky full of stars. she's always remarking on the stars. i love that she looks out her window this morning hour. the lets go outside and take a look and see if we can find any stars. we can find that they are lying around on the bridge. it looks star lit right now ben franklin bridge very quiet morning. if you like quiet weather you'll like quiet wet they are morning because we have got it every place. in precipitation not that much in the way of wind and in fact still in wind, down in rehoboth beach with a temperature of 32 degrees. the it is quiet, on their boardwalk, as you might expect with a temperature at the freezing mark along the shore areas. now we're also looking at storm scan three showing no problems today expect full sunshine, all day long and then tomorrow it is a whole different picture. we will get rain in here. if there are things you need to do this is half of the weekend to do them in. even though temperatures will be colder it will be dry today, unlike tomorrow. and cold it is, 19 out at the airport in philadelphia. we have 12 allentown. four in the poconos. this is ridiculous. nineteen in in millville. twenty-one down in wildwood and we've got mostly sunny skies expect for us today. now we are finding these temperatures on sunday, getting to, oh, say right about 40-degree mark or so. forty, 44 degrees possibly. then we will start to see temperatures coming down by the time we get to monday. sun will be back but it will be windy. that 40-degree temperature on monday will be feeling colder then that actual reading. future weather by 5:00 o'clock, there may be a couple clouds out there. just a forerunner of the clouds coming here tomorrow. this is a look at 7:00 o'clock in the morning. at 6:00 in the morning it starts to move into the region and this is as it is estimated right now with this low pressure system forming off the carolina coast it is coming in here, we will get some rain, maybe on the leading edge of the precipitation where temperatures are cold because it will be earlier and farther north you go it will stay slightly colder as this precipitation comes in. do you see a brief bit of the mix, a brief bit of freezing rain? it is possible, but very quickly these temperatures will warm up and they will warm up and this transitions over to all rain every place. expect generally all rain you notice though that there could be a little bit of freezing in a couple of spots just at the initial on set of this precipitation but look at 10:00 o'clock tomorrow morning. orange indicating heavier rain. there is quite a bit of that out there we will keep this right through the noon time hour. notice further west less likely you are to see this heavy rain at all. by 2:00 in the afternoon areas started to dry out with the exception of the shore and maybe a few other spots through new jersey. 4:00 p.m. same story continue with the rain showers this thing finally starts to pull away and then we will get colder air coming down in the area. this will not be a small little rain maker either because some spots could be picking up an inch of rain between one and 2 inches a according to this computer model mostly around shore areas where rain is hanging around longer. we will pick up rain through philadelphia. farther north and west less likely we are to see much in the way of rain. temperatures in the 30's today, lower 30's, 25 in the poconos. expect wind to remain light. thirty-two is a pretty true 32. tonight, 28 degrees these temperatures getting down but not as cold as this morning. tomorrow 44 degrees. it is a cold rain at 44. bundle up, keep those pets inside and dry as well. and then on monday we are dry, blustery tuesday 40. wednesday a brief clipper system may bring rain or snow shower but should not be a big deal at all. on thursday and friday we are in the upper 30's nicole. >> well, you may be familiar with kick family what she went through in holding the family together. >> i just have huge respect for all of the spouses left behind. the she's really grateful that the movie shows his flaws and conflict that "eyewitness news" reporter steve paterson live outside st. christopher's hospital for children where we are trying to learn more about that child's condition steve. >> reporter: developing story, details still coming out of this from hospital officials and police as they continue to investigate the but yes, as you mentioned an infant child was doused by some sort of flammable substance and lit on fire late last night. i want to take you to the scene of pemberton, new jersey, the the street is called simontown road, there investigators were on the scene earlier this morning and you can see police and fire vehicles there sources are telling cbs-3 that sometime shortly after or around 11:00 o'clock last night neighbors witnessed something horrific. they witnessed a young mother in her early 20's a mother screaming, douse ago this child again in some sort of flammable fluid and setting that child on fire. the child was then flown to st. christopher's hospital until the second and third degree burns on the entirety of that child's body. again, trying to learn more about the child's condition from hospital officials and police on a possible criminal investigation as this continues this morning. we are live from st. christopher's, steve paterson for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". steve, thank you. eight people are hurt after a trenton bound river line train slams in the car in riverside burlington county. daunte shot this eyewitness cam video of the the chester avenue crossing with his cell phone. three of the injured were in the car other injured person was on the train. the extent of their injuries is unknown. take a look at this frightening scene in delaware county an 86 year-old woman's foot slipped off the brake sending her car crashing through the side of the ymca. michelle krause snapped this photo of the car stopped just inches from that pool. the the driver just lost the building shaken but unhurt. it appears in charges were file. pool area will be closed a as repairs are made. police release surveillance video of the man they say shot and killed a woman waiting for a bus in north philadelphia take a close look, you can still see unidentified kill's approaching and ambush his victim 56 year-old kim jones on tuesday morning. after shooting jones once in the head he got on the northbound subway train exiting at hunting park station. investigators say killer carefully covered his face, lowering his head and these are all signs of the well planned hit. >> it is incredible that something, this insane could happen, to such a good person. >> jones was a social worker who devoted her life to children. she was known to miss kim at the church of the advocate where she launched an after school meal program. now to the latest on the flu out break and deadly east affects being felt in delaware. "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt has more to ensure that this part of history is never forgotten. >> enough is enough. >> reporter: out just one week the movie selma is already making a name for itself. it is story of a historic civil rights march led by there martin luther king junior as a part for the the the fight for equality. local business leaders say they want students to see the the film for free. >> until they see it on film, that is a whole other ballgame for them. >> reporter: andre moore is senior vice-president at citizens bank park and she will join hundreds of seventh eighth and ninth graders from public and private philadelphia schools at the pearl theater near the temple campus saturday afternoon for the free showing. >> i really want to look and see on the basis of what kid feel what they are getting from this. >> reporter: more and other local business leaders spent the last week raising private donations to give students the the complimentary look into history, moore says group raisedded $44,000 so far, that is enough to send 4400 students to see the film. the idea began with new york business lead hours took their campaign to social media the the hash tag sell man for students is growing in popularity by the hour. philadelphia leaders got involved last week. >> the movie is so timely with all that is happening in the world and i think it will do a lot to lift kids and give them hope. >> reporter: moore is teaming up with mayor michael nutter and the city for saturday showing, while selma is nominated for best picture there has been criticism over the fact that the lead actor and director were not nominated for academy award. moore says that doesn't a matter, the movie itself will make a difference. >> hopefully this movie will make people think differently on why we have the right to vote. >> reporter: the fund raising will continue through martin luther king junior day. david spunt for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". after the loss of their child to brain cancer a family begins an initiative aimed at bringing happiness to other sick children. friday morning students at bala cynwyd middle school packed donated art bags to honor memory of their classmate lucy bell perkins an eighth grade shore died in september. the family calls the group lucy bell's rainbow. >> lucy bell's rainbow is an initiative to bring art and art therapy support and kids under going cancer treatment at chop where lucy was treated. it meant a lot to her. >> with the cooperation at her brother's school pen win elementary they are well on their way to reach their gel of providing art supplies to the 1,000 children receiving chemotherapy at children's hospital of philadelphia. other good news this morning 300 students will most likely need a lot of sleep after dancing the night away in montgomery county. they are still dancing. the mount st. joseph a academy hosted the mini thon to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer. "eyewitness news" in flower town where the all girls prep school kick off at 8:00 o'clock last night. as i said they will be dancing until 8:00 o'clock this morning. t minus one hour and 17 minutes. more acts of generosity from the 16 students at the dance mini thon. they volunteered to cut their hair and donate it towards making way for cancer patients. the the mini thon has raised more than $30,000 for pediatric cancer. that is awesome. blast from the past at camden aquarium in the form of the dino invasion. a new exhibit called dinosaurs of the deep features prehistoric marine reptiles that lived more than hundred million years ago. this is the largest exhibit the the aquarium has ever shown. it is now on display for a limited time. there is a lot coming up on cbs morning the action. in new york wendy gilette for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". well this morning at least we are looking at some cold temperatures and we've got them from our weather watcher. they are up early checking old them ter and ed connor in new jersey says it was a cool walk this morning. the his dog casey whom we have come to follow casey's steps out in the morning made it 80 feet but no frost of the car. that is exactly right. the air is incredibly dry out there this morning, we have due points of 2 degrees or something. we have another 16-degree temperature and this is ron russell and 16 degrees, and we've got a 15-degree temperature out there can we go lower than that? this is a temperature that phil, in philadelphia a is saying that we are dealing with, a clear star lit cold before the rain tomorrow. cap you'llized our forecast permanently and one other temperature is 17 degrees this is our friend matthew who says in conshohocken that he has a beautiful january morning clear skies, but very, very, cold. and yes it is, it is clear. it looks gorgeous out there let me walk you over a show you a couple pictures outside. jack frost big boulder it is already bright. this is a perfect ski day. if you love snow and i know you love snow this will be a day, not that you will see the the snow coming down but the the snow that is there is staying there today. it is really, really cold. it is bright. the beautiful. it is a perfect looking day. if you are more of the shore type person we are starting to see that little ribbon of light moving along the a atlantic ocean. it looks very pretty taking a look at the atlantic city area we have that same ribbon of light in cape may courthouse but look at these temperatures 17 degrees out there right now. wind a at 5 miles an hour. not a lot in the way of wind. 5 miles an hour wind can make temperature feel colder. they are in the teens. everybody is in the teens but we are starting to see 20 degrees through wilmington getting out of the teens there 21 in dover. it is just four up in the poconos. this is a cold morning. a much cold are morning. yesterday was in the 40's. so this is a shock to the system this morning and it feels several degrees colder then numbers i just showed you. storm scan three clear skies we are not dealing with anything except really pretty out there today with the dry dry air the skies are nice and blue. we will be finding our temperatures tomorrow getting into the 40's so a change from today when they will been 32 degrees, freezing mark. tomorrow some rain and some of that can get heavy from a low pressure system that moves from the coast on the carolinas. for us it is rain. by the time it gets to new england they will deal with more in the way of snow as temperatures will be colder up there monday long gone, blustery wind here but temperatures right around that 40-degree mark. the lets time this out. by 6:00 we are still looking at clear skies and then this is a a look at 6:00 o'clock tomorrow morning. we will see precipitation coming in here by the time we hit 8:00 we will see heavy rain through philadelphia. notice little areas finding the pink where you might find a very brief period of freezing rain. very brief, because this warms up fast. by 9:00 we are looking at rain through philadelphia, allentown might see that little bit of brief mix there were the warm air just comes in notice yellow and orange andes specially these orange and where you see those is where you will pick up most rain. the it is gone for everybody by the time we hit five or 6:00 tomorrow and we will clear out for monday. that looks like a dry day but wet one as we look at rainfall amounts. 1 inch in some cases maybe a little over 1 inch of rain out of this for the heavier rainfall amounts. today, 32 in philadelphia. thirty-two at the shore. poconos, five. that wind will be light. it is cold enough, 28 degrees we will drop down to tonight. partly cloudy skies eventually. and then for tomorrow it is a wet one, cold rain too at 44 degrees but it will be rain and it will be maybe some heavy rain at times. they will keep umbrellas over yourself keep your pets dry as well and then on monday a blustery temperature in the lower 40's. the tuesday lower 40's. wednesday maybe a brief rain or snow shower and then thursday and friday into the upper 30's. do you
