"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo live at blie and bustleton in rhawnhurst where the crash happened. good morning, jan. >> reporter: good morning, that important clue is in the form of what police believe is the striking vehicle. now they haven't caught up with the driver just yet but they do believe they have found the car involved in this hit-and-run crash, that's due in part with eyewitness help. people who saw the hit-and-run happen here in this bank parking lot late last night. they tell police they saw this white car speed off, but notice the vehicle's tag first. so they called police. take a look at this. police used tag to find out who this car is registered to and the home is registered to. that's what led investigators just about mile away to the 7,000 block of rutland street. they immediately found the car park there, and unattended with heavy windshield damage. now, police are looking for the driver, no one is in custody yet this morning, and this hit-and-run happened around 11:00 p.m. in the wells fargo bank parking lot at the corner of bustleton and blie. police say 49 year old man, who lives just about a half block away, was hit, taken to aria-torresdale, where he's currently in critical condition. now, at this point, police don't know if he will survive. he has severe head trauma. >> it is unusual any time someone leaves the scene after accident, they don't remain on location, and rends area cyst tans, and now you are looking at serious crime for a hit-and-run. and if this vehicle doesn't survive the injuries you are looking at vehicular homicide. >> reporter: in the meantime, the accident investigation district is headed up this investigation. there are actually number of surveillance cameras in this area at the bank as well as other nearby businesses. so they're hoping that video can help. police are actually securing that striking vehicle, as women. they're going to dust it for fingerprint to see who was the last jim, back into you. >> meanwhile, in other news this morning, police are investigating after three people were shot in broad daylight in south philadelphia. this happened yesterday afternoon around 4:30 at 18th and wharton. police say a 32 year old mother was pushing her baby boy in a stroller when she was shot in the arm. thankfully, the baby wasn't hurt. sixty-two year old woman also nearby was also shot multiple times in her right leg. and a 40 year old man was shot in the leg. all victims are expected to survive. police are unsure if any of the victims were the intended target or just got caught in the crossfire. >> learn more this morning about the afghan immigrant who police say is responsible for series every bombings in new york and new jersey. >> ahmad khan rahami was captured yesterday, after a shoot-out with police, and is being held on $5 million bail. cbs correspondent hena daniels live in new york with the latest on the investigation. good morning, hena, what can you walking away with a unsettled feeling. ahmad khan rahami is in custody this morning facing -- facing five count of attempted murder. this cell phone video shows the 28 year old handcuffed and laying on the ground in linden, new jersey yesterday. press obama who was in new york for the un general assembly praised the officers who risk their life to take him down. >> just one more reminder the extraordinary skill and sacrifice and courage of our law enforcement officers. >> authorities say they've directly linked rahami to saturday explosions in both new york city and new jersey. and connected him to five more bombs found sunday night, near a new jersey train station. they're also looking into whether he had any ties to terror groups. a senior law enforcement official tells cbs news he traveled to his native afghanistan at least three times in the last two years. he also visited pakistan. as the investigation continues, to unfold, people who live here along the street where the bomb went off are returning home. and businesses are back open once again. >> all we can do is be vigilant, and clean up the mess. >> this is not a block you would think of as a target. it is not times square or the world trade center or grand central station. so it is very strange that it happened here. >> officials say there is no indication of an extremist cell operating in the area, and shore forecast, don't expect a lot of sunshine today, maybe isolated shower, 76 degrees, improving conditions in south jersey, and the delaware beaches on wednesday. up to the upper 70s, with more sunshine, and that trend continues into thursday. so nice stretch of beach weather coming in for the second half of this week. lingering front over us right now, little low pressure system providing the left over showers, to our south, that finally drift further to the south and little eastward over the next 24 hours. high pressure builds back in, it helps clear us out, take out the humidity, still protected by the high pressure for the end of the week. it means no threat of rain. looks like fairly dry pattern for the next several days. so patchy morning fog. decrease in clouds today.
