"eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones has more. >> reporter: early police report indicate that the 39 year-old man jump in the quarry on st. peters road in chester county to try to cool off and wheat the heat. that is when he suffered an apparent spinal injury. because of the 30-degree slope leading in the the quarry a specially train technical rescue team had to be called to pull the man out. >> one patient complained of numbness in the legs. >> reporter: his injuries why so serious he was flown to thomas jefferson university hospital at around 5:30. the incident is a reminder of the dangers of the jumping into creeks and quarries. on this bridge over penny pack creek in philadelphia is there a memorial to those who have lost their lives here including 13 year-old brandon boyle who died here just last year. yet, teens still swim here. >> i just don't go out too deep. just right there to cool down. >> reporter: she lost her 15 year old son nickie in 1996. he was trying to save his friend near the sand when both were swept away and died. she has a message to those looking to cool off, in the coming months ahead. >> stay out of the creek. if you love your mothers and your fathers, don't leave them to have a life time of sadness. >> reporter: after the 39 year-old, who was injured jumping into that quarry, at last check, his condition was unknown. reporting from center city, todd quinones, cbs-3 eyewitness news. happening today, five suspects in the main line drug ring are set to appear for their arraignment. charges including conspiracy and possession with intent to manufacture or deliver. prosecutors alleged that it not only involved drugs but high powered weapons. investigators say two alleged mastermind were sub dealers hired from five high schools and three colleges. also, happening today tyler, has a preliminary hearing in the philadelphia courtroom. he faces murder and related charges in the the shooting death of the 17 year-old bernard scott last april. scott was watching a basketball game at topton playground in overbrook when a fight and shoot-out erupted nearby. three other men arrested in connection with the shoot ago wait trial. also we're hearing from the 13 year-old boy targeted by a gunman as he searched for his stolen bike, the seventh grader's parents asked that we not use his name. this happened on monday afternoon near 20th and moore street in south philadelphia. boy was driving with his stepfather looking for a bike similar to this one and that is when two suspects approached the car, one claiming the bike needs to be returned for $20. >> they are shooting at the door. i was trying to cover myself. i was like moving around. >> he was hit twice in the arm and leg but fortunate thely the the bullet missed any vital organs. police continue their search for the shooter and his accomplice. dramatic new video could shed light on the deadly house fire we told but yesterday morning. it happened in wilmington. a neighbor captured cell phone video of the house engulfed in flames on bird street on monday. one man was killed and two women were injured. family members say that the 49 year-old fran seen wallace suffer burns on over 80 percent of her body. they believe somebody doused the home gasoline and then set it on fire. a bizarre accident now in wilmington manor, delaware has left two people dead. state police say jeep cherokee went out of control crashing into two cars. it then careened off a road and person riding a lawn mower at wilmington university. twenty-five year-old derrick wynn of new castle and lawn mower operator francisco jimenes flores were both kill. the the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
