reporter: pastor robert cook works with youth and said he had a gunpointed at him before but this time he was outside his frankford home with his 12 year-old on by his side. man with the rifle approached and demanded money. >> i turned like i would get my wallet, but i was just stalling. he hit me hard in the back of the head with the gun. >> reporter: it was just before 11:00 o'clock thursday night, pastor cook, his wife and that are son had just returned to the 1,000 block of pratt street from a concert, when the attempted robber did not know both cook and his wife are licensed to carry. his wife had her gun. >> and i heard, my wife, saying tropical the gun. she has got her gun. he turned towards her, and i said shoot him. the shoot him. she shot him. >> reporter: shot in the leg police say suspect initially got away by jumping on the running board of the passing suv. officers eventually tracked him down after decide to go check nearby frankford hospital for gunshot victims. >> right outside of the hospital in the 4900 block have of frankford avenue they saw a male, fitting the description, limping. >> while he is bruised, pastor cook just pleased his family was not hurt but the outcome could have been different. >> when we got our guns we got them but hope we never to have use them. but if it comes down to my family or him, it is him, sorry. >> reporter: pastor cook's church is right by his home and he will have a new story to tell. as for that robbery suspect he is in custody and police believe this shooting was just final n frankford jan carabao for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". in other news stolen guns are adding to the illegal weapons already on the streets of philadelphia today. federal alcohol tobacco and firearms agents, are searching for burglars, who stolen more than a dozen guns from a mayfair gun store. authorities say that 17 firearms, including 12 hand guns, have been stolen from lock's philadelphia gun exchange over the past three weeks. there is a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. meanwhile investigators are trying to figure out what caused this deadly head on crash in dover, involving a delaware state trooper. it happened last night on route one southbound near exit 98. police say a chevy driven by a 77 year-old man was driving the wrong way. when he slammed into the trooper's cruiser. the driver of the car who was not wearing a seat belt at the time was killed, the 22-year old trooper was air lifted from the scene, with non-life threatening injuries. new york city police detective is recovering this noon after being attacked with a meat cleaver. happen during rush hour near pen station. investigators say detective was helping officers subdue the suspect, who was trying to remove a parking boot from his car. authorities say suspect slapped the detective in the face during the struggle. officers fired nearly 20 shots shooting the suspect. >> i want to comment them for their bravery and performance of duty, and push back right off of that, above the number of shots that were fired. the shots were fired, to the attack on my officers by this suspect. >> and that suspect is to turn off their phones immediately. about a million of the smart phones in the u.s. are under recall and the president of the samsung is apologizing. chris van cleve is inside the consumer products in the first half of the day on monday and future weather will confirm that for us, so dry conditions, with a few more clouds around, tomorrow, could see a shower popping up late in the daze up toward poconos and as we head into sunday scattered showers and thunderstorms developing especially in the prime heating of the day continuing in the evening hours and then some of the models project ago this we could see heavier rain late sunday night, early monday morning, so stay tuned for that evolving forecast. shore looking great over next couple days but watching out for showers and
