"before i ever got a service dog, i didn't know it was possible, but it is great. it is horrible not having a service dog after you get use to one. it todd and the north liberty community are now trying to raise enough funds to get todd a new service dog. todd has also developed diabities and the service dog would also be able to help him manage his blood sugar levels. we've got you covered live in the newsroom . . .jessica hartman kwwl news. it will cost close to 25- thousand dollars to purchase a new service dog. if you would like to help - -we will have a link to the donation page on kwwl- dot- com. a relatively quiet weekend ahead -- let's go to storm track seven chief meteorologist mark schnackenberg now for your weekend outlook. 7 weather team. see the screen here is additional forecast information from the kwwl stormtrack 7 weather team: we are heading into a quiet weekend with temperatures warming into the low and mid 30s by sunday. the next chance of snow arrives on monday. light snow falls monday afternoon into monday night. early indications show about 1-3" of snow will fall across eastern iowa. late monday night and tuesday the wind will cause blowing snow in locations where snow accumulated. expect some hazardous travel conditions monday evening into tuesday morning. we are heading into a quiet weekend with temperatures warming into the low and mid 1-3" of snow will fall across eastern iowa. late monday night a 67-year-old woman is killed in an apartment fire. it happened early this morning in dewitt. police say a firefighter was also injured after part of the building's roof collapsed. the woman's name has not been cause of the fire is under investigation. a fire that killed two children inside a home is ruled accidental. it happened earlier this week in the village of wauzeka, wisconsin -- just across the iowa border. investigators say the fire started in the center of the home -- near the stair case -- blocking the two sisters from getting out. authorities say the girls -- ages 15 and 12 --were home alone -- as their parents were at work. an exact cause is still not known. police arrest a man accused of making a bomb threat at an area high school minutes before allegedly robbing a bank. clifton brinkmeyer was arrested and charged with robbing the u-s bank on william street in iowa city. police later determined he was responsible for calling in the bomb threat at iowa city west tuesday -- forcing everyone to evacuate. he now faces charges of terrorism and robbery. an iowa man pleads guilty to two counts of first degree murder. 37-year-old jerry dillinger admitting to killing his former sister-in- law loretta dillinger and michael robinson. loretta's body was found last month in a pond near lorimor. the second body - who dillinger says is robinson -- was found near a house in thayer. he was apparently in a relationship with one of dillinger's relatives. dillinger was given two consecutive life sentences. a man who injected a woman with heroin, causing her to overdose is sentenced to two years in prison. 37-year-old richard roberts, of cedar rapids, pleaded guilty to october. he admitted to injecting the woman, causing her to lose consciousness. she was revived by emergency crews, and they say she was close to brain injury and death. roberts is being held in the united states marshal's custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. new at ten -- one local college student's class project has now turned into an effort to save lives. a university of wisconsin platteville student looking to kwwl's brad hanson joins us live now from the t-h media newsroom in dubuque. and brad, you found out today no it's not--you can buy bulletproof backpack or inserts right now. expensive, and wants to make a cheaper, but just as effective version, that can save lives down the road. life saving work is happening in this lab at the university of wisconsin platteville. junior henry nicklas is working to make a bulletproof backpack insert that can save your life without breaking your wallet. it started as a simple class project. (henry nicklas, uw-p junior) "i heard news about another school shooting, so i"m like, this sucks, so i thought, maybe i can do something that helps out with that." so far nicklas that." so far nicklas has tested six panels--some made of polyethylene, seen here, that gives him the best chance of developing this product for as cheap as he'd like. it's that same material using them, but for their parents at home, too. "if somebody does come in with a gun or something like that, inside of their school, they'll know that there's a really good chance they'll be okay." and though this started as a simple class project, for nicklas, this now classroom.. "i can save someone's life by doing this. even if it's just one or two people that when they actually get it, they actually experience a shooting and get saved by it...that'll make it totally worth it." nicklas has more material ordered, and hopes to get a lot more work in on the panel over spring break. so far he says he's spent less than a thousand dollars on the project. we've got you covered live here from the t-h media newsroom in dubuque, brad hanson, kwwl news. nicklas says he hopes to have a fully tested prototype ready to go by the end of the summer. construction is underway to transform a historic building in single-speed brewery expanding from its cedar falls location to the old wonderbread building in waterloo. the six-million dollar project is waiting on historical reviews -- to ensure the budilings doesn't lose any of it's history. single-speed founder -- dave morgan -- says he hopes to give the space new life. with the getting trapped inside. take a look at the van here in birmingham, alabama. authorities say the suspect stole the van --and led them on a chase before crashing. you can see emergency crews rescuing the suspect to take him to the local hospital. a sheriff's deputy also suffered minor injuries in the chase. an air bag recall expands to five million more vehicles following another death. the new recall announced for potentially defective takata air bags. ten people have been killed already due to the exploding air bags. the recall is now up to 23-million air bag inflators in more than 19 million vehicles -- making it one of the largest recalls ever. more than 100 injuries have also been reported. thousands of people are registering their drones in the first month after the f- a-a required to do so. they say nearly 300-thousand drones have been registered so far. the new rule requires all drones that weigh up to 55 pounds that are used for recreation purposes to be registered
