friend. and we would just saying we just saw her two weeks ago. loved ones holding a somber vigil tonight to remember dr lily shoe. good evening. i'm julie julie haener mike mibach shoes being remembered as a beloved mother and a respected dennis in oakland. police say she was shot and killed yesterday afternoon right at the corner of fifth avenue and east 11th street in the city's little saigon neighborhood. ktvu is amber lee joins us live from the newsroom after attending tonight's vigil with the message from loved ones, amber. mike family and friends tell me they're grieving and trying to come to terms with what happened . police say there was a struggle between the thief and the victim when shots were fired. nah. everything. sorry. sadness and shock as friends and community leaders spoke at the vigil held monday evening in memory of lili xu. the event was held along fifth avenue, where the 60 year old was shot and killed sunday afternoon around two o'clock friends struggling to make sense of the senseless violence certain i was like a shock and i can't believe i said what really? lily is our very close friend. this surveillance video shows a black mercedes pulling up with shoe and her longtime partner inside and parking in the little saigon neighborhood. within seconds. this white lexus pulls up alongside them. i heard a scream and then three gunshots like 123 and immediately ran out to my window and i just saw a woman sitting right there with a man holding her neighbor brendan. pain says he ran outside to help . we did everything we could to make it as comfortable as possible. we brought towels and like 12, people called an ambulance immediately and it was just horrible source tells me she was shot twice in the back and that the thieves attempted to rob her of her purse. police say she died at the hospital. her son and friends tell me she was a beloved dentist with a popular practice at the pacific renaissance plaza in oakland, chinatown. her death has shaken the community so mad no. when we got money upset, too, so hopefully we get together. and do something to our community, very nice and very responsible. i really like it. i can't believe this news. shoe recently celebrated her birthday with friends at the ballet school she attended. they described her seen on the left as graceful, hardworking, friendly and generous, so. very kind and. very passionate. she's very passionate. about the learning everything is being remembered as loving life. she leaves behind her longtime life partner and her 32 year old son. police are looking for witnesses, including people in a white four door tesla that was seen driving along fifth avenue towards i 80 80 community members are demanding better protection and more police patrols. mike member when it comes to those police patrols. i mean, the chief was out there today, really emphasizing in that, hey, we have been putting more officers in that little saigon neighborhood. in fact, yesterday at the time of the shooting, amber, i mean, there were officers just a few blocks away , the police chief said there were officers about 4 to 5 blocks away from the shooting. but he said people don't commit crimes where they see police and that's part of the problem. more for you before i let you go just to clarify. do we know if that the shooter actually got away? with anything, uh, from mrs shoes, possession. it's unclear , but police did say it was an attempted robbery. so that leads me to believe nothing was taken, but they were not clear about that point. amberleigh live tonight and the newsroom amber. thank you. we do have new details tonight about a deadly drive by shooting in richmond this afternoon. this happened right around four o'clock this afternoon in the area of fourth street and mcdonald boulevard near nevin park. it's in the city's iron triangle. police say two men were killed and 30 year old and a 65 year old sky. foxx flew over the scene, and you can see a number of officers down below in their patrol vehicles as well as evidence markers, police say at this time, there is no word on any possible suspects. officers also responded to another homicide. just about an hour after this a mile away. they say that shooting on mcdonald avenue started as an argument and that a 35 year old was killed. richmond police are vetoed a bill today that would have allowed california cities to establish monitored injection sites. for drug users. the governor said he is not opposed to the idea, but said he had concerns about the implementation date abuse. jana katsuyama live tonight in oakland with reaction and why, the bill's author says the governor is mistaken on this one. jenna mike, the mayor here in oakland, as well as the mayor in san francisco both issued statements saying that they are disappointed and governor newsom's decision. meantime state senator scott wiener of san francisco who authored the bill, said he believes the city should move forward anyway without the governor's support. senate bill 57 would have allowed city to create pilot programs for supervised injection sites where people would be allowed to use illegal drugs in a facility supervised by trained staff. on monday, governor gavin newsom rejected the bill, he said in a statement quote the unlimited number of injection sites that the bill would authorize facilities which could exist well into the later part of this decade could induce a world of unintended consequences. nuisance veto came as a shock to supporters of sb 57. it's absolutely tragic. state senator scott wiener of san francisco was the author of the bill francisco two people a day are dying of drug overdoses to a day francisco earlier this year glide st anthony's and other organizations opened a mock injection site to show the community how a facility would be used and supervised. supporters say other pilot programs in oakland and los angeles were also in the works based on programs already in use new york city implemented these a year ago. they have been so successful that mayor adams in new york city who's a law and order? mayor mayor adams wants them to go 24 hours because they've been so successful in san francisco's tenderloin neighborhood. there is support for injection sites, many people out here that are homeless and being okay then. um and same time they can get help if they want to get into treatment and get into treatment. i walk through the tenderloin district every day to work and a lot of times i see all see people on the ground and then i'll see. paramedics have to check on them to see you know if they're still breathing or not. the san francisco police officers association backed governor newsom's decision monday, issuing a statement that read, in part quote. these locations would have allowed sanctioned drug dens and attracted more drug dealers to these neighborhoods, creating misery and chaos for the residents and businesses forced to be next to these sites. opponents also say the focus and funds should be for drug enforcement and treatment. treatment programs were forced to drugs. that's the hardest thing. and today, governor, newsom said that he remains open to the idea. he has asked his health secretary to meet with city and county officials to come up with a minimum standards and some best practices for perhaps a more limited pilot program. like a lot of talk about governor newsom one in a higher profile, maybe even reaching for a higher office. i don't know if you've spoken to any political analysts out there over the last few weeks, but does that come into play here on certain controversial decisions that he's making now? or maybe even in the future? well it certainly does raise that question. you know, a lot of people had been expecting him to sign onto this . he had been a supporter in the past, and certainly this is a controversial topic that has gained national attention. so there is that question out there as to whether it might have been somewhat politically motivated. in that way. jana katsuyama live tonight in oakland, jenna. thank you. san francisco mayor london breed did express disappointment in today's veto in a series of tweets, the mayor said in part overdose prevention programs, saves lives and help connect people to treatment and services . we will keep working with our community partners to find a way forward, and we will also continue to advocate to the federal government about this critical public health response , doctor anthony ebola and anthrax . fauci who is 81 said he will end his tenure as director of the national institute of allergy and infectious diseases in december. he said he's not retiring, though, but plans to pursue the next phase of his career. in a letter he thanked those who he's worked with for decades, he wrote thanks to the power of science and investments in research and innovation, the world has been able to fight deadly diseases and help save lives around the globe. i am proud to have been part of this important work and look forward to helping to continue to do so in the future, attend some ransomware that crashes computer networks. this is a growing threat to many companies and private agencies. ktvu is tom baker spoke with two of the country's top cyber security agencies about the increasing rests facing many government and corporate computer networks. i and the cybersecurity and infrastructure security agency urgently advises all bay area companies about increasing ransomware cyber attacks known as zeppelin. the warning is aimed at all industries, but in particular one beset with dealing with covid and monkey pox, somewhere has been particularly interested in targeting the health care industry. attackers are looking for cash cows that have weak cybersecurity. they're kind of cyberport, but they're you know, financially rich if you will, zeppelin ransomware can both hide or steal a victim's data, rendering it useless. often the criminals demand bitcoin payments of thousands to more than a million dollars. victim company can get us involved soon enough that we can do a good job of doing, you know, black chain analysis and tracking where those funds go, even if they go through, uh, money laundering services called mixers or templars once ransom is actually paid. the victims expect promised codes to restore their data. there is no honor amongst thieves. when victim companies pay the ransom only one out of every four times do they get the key and unlocks all of their data? ziplines creators have now begun leasing their ransom alert to other cybercriminals who might have other incentives such as terrorism, financial destabilization or out and out anarchy they can sell, potentially sell that data to other hackers to say, hey, we made, you know a million dollars off this organization. will sell this to you for an x amount and since attackers often bounce their crimes through legitimate servers and computers worldwide available, destructive counterattacks are risky. we could potentially damage unwitting victims devices. the only real solution get most finally, indeed we do get data and they are quite stunning. so forest waiting for i guess a departure is a professor romerito with the uc berkeley department of astronomy and planetary sciences. she's which we don't really work on ourselves. but the fact that you see galaxies sort of in the background where you take a picture of jupiter. that's quite stunning. i think the nasa website also credits
