Officers with a metal rake and refused commands to put it down. It happened on chase street. We went to santa cruz and spoke to concerned neighbors who say the suspect was mentally unstable. Reporter people who live in this quiet neighborhood in my santa cruz say they are surprised to hear of a deadly shooting, let alone one where an officer pulled a trigger. Any death is a tragedy. Its scary that it came to that. Its scary it had to come to a shooting. I tend to not expect that out here. Reporter it was at this home on cherry street. Police got a frantic 911 call at 3 30 am. Resident called with a report of someone bashing on their doors and windows and screaming that they wanted to kill everyone in the house. Reporter a family was home at the time. When officers got there, they got the suspect away from the house. It was on the Streets Police say the man then confronted officers, attacking them with a metal rake and wouldnt stop despite several attempts with a taser. Officer lives were definitely at threat. The suspect continued to charge at officers, continued to move forward and threaten the officers with a weapon that he would not put down. Truck an officer fired at least one round killing the suspect. The officer is in Good Standing with the department and calls what happened a last resort. This is not the scenario we want to play out. Reporter the motive is unknown at this time. A woman who lived at the house, too upset to talk on camera, tells us she called for help from a man since he has known since he was young. She says the Mental Health department and the Police Department let her down. She wishes a Mental Health specialist had been with police. I would like to think they would have erred on the side of maybe using less lethal force but more like painting the guy or Something Like that. Reporter police say all officers go through Mental Health training and two officers had enhanced crisis training and were part of the net part of the departments negotiations team. Officers were not wearing body cameras as the department has yet to roll them out. I cant imagine being the one who had to shoot somebody. No matter who it is, it is something you live with for the rest of your life. Thats hard and i feel for the man who was killed because i have no idea what his story was. Reporter this is the first officer involved shooting in santa cruz this year. The last one happened in 2013 12 officers were shot and killed. There is a memorial outside Police Headquarters for them. Madison smith, ktvu fox 2 news. A man accused of shooting at a Police Officer died of injuries. The man shot officer kevin downs near the sunset district. The gunman then ran into stern grove and interim police chief Toney Chaplin said several officers chased him and one opened fire. The suspect was taken to San Francisco general where he died of injuries. His name still hasnt been released. As for the wounded officer, the chief says he was partially paralyzed on one side of his body but is expected to survive. Happening now, the storm system is not completely out of the bay area just yet but it is tapering off. The National Weather service has a Flash Flood Warning up until sunday. Todays heavy rain also flooded parts of 101 in San Francisco. This is what it looked like on southbound 101. Highway patrol officers worked to clear storm drains and diverted traffic around the flooded freeway. Pg e is working to get the electricity back on for almost 165,000 bay area customers who lost power this weekend. About an hour and a half ago, the utility reported 63 million customers still without power including more than 4200 and fremont. Pg e recommends customers have their own batteryoperated flashlights, a landline telephone, and ice to keep refrigerated food from spoiling during a power outage. Another day of weather related problems for travelers at sfo. Delays for averaging 30 to 90 minutes today due to poor visibility. They mostly affected shorter flights up and down the west coast. A second photo shows a white Toyota Pickup with a king cab. These are potential witness vehicles. Officers would like to talk to them. A triple shooting last night left one man dead and two people wounded near sevastopol at 8 15 pm near highway 116. When deputies arrived, they found three gunshot wounds victims. One man died at the scene and a man and woman were taken to santa rosa memorial hospital. Conditions have not been released and so far arrests have not been made. In berkeley, police are investigating a shooting that injured a man not far from campus just after 11 00 last night. Right now, its not clear what led to the shooting but police say it does not appear to be random. The mans name has not been released by police say he is 35 years old and in critical condition. The Sacramento County Coroners Office has released the name of one of three people found dead in an apartment last night. Marcus brown is identified as one of those victims. He was taken to santa rosa memorial where he died yesterday. The driver is cooperating with investigators. They say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident. There is a new effort to try to reduce suicides on the golden gate bridge. The bridgeport has agreed to hire five more officers to specifically watch out for suicidal people walking along the span. The new officers are expected to begin patrols in about two months. A suicide barrier is also in the works. Another underwater. Under the bay bridge has been removed. The Highway Patrol held up traffic on the bridge to keep drivers safe during the implosion. Caltrans said it used 8000 pounds of explosives in the blast. The next implosion is set to take down e 4 using 12,000 pounds of explosives in two weeks. Researchers at uc berkeley have detected the largest expansion of the disease that causes sudden oak death. The National Weather service has confirmed two tornadoes hit the region with winds up to 130 Miles Per Hour. The high winds and heavy rain brought down trees and power lines friday. A few dozen homes in manzanita and oceanside were damaged. Looking around right now, to see all the trees down, its amazing. Its scary. Reporter the windstorm is said to be the remnants of a typhoon in the pacific. There are no reports of injuries and tornadoes are rare in oregon. In our local weather, we have been connected to the same storm. Not as intense but it still packed a punch. This storm covered a good portion of the west coast.
