Game five at 52 in the top of the 9th. But then the bullpen gave it away. Ktvu Debora Villalon is live at at t park after watching tonights crushing loss with fans for joe fonzi. Joe, the cub scored four times in the 9th off the five relievers. Matt moore was pitching so well for the giants. Why take them out . That is the question that bruce bochy is going to need to answer tonight. Then you saw what happened with the most on the giants the entire regular season. Tonight it cost them again. Over the last four years could not do it again tonight. The cubs are still trying to live down the curse for eight innings tonight. It looked to be very much alive. Giants were 11 in 49th in the 4th with bases loaded. Things are going their way. But they would get two in the inning, superb, allowing just two hits, in eight innings. He was removed in the 9th and the giants try to get it done with that suspect bullpen. Wilson contreras. And then Hunter Strickland with the fifth pitching in the season. And the cubs are three out away from moving on. Flame thrower, chapman then came in to work the 9th, the giants last chance. He went down on strike as chapman struck out the sides. The team that had dodged so many elimination games, but they could not do it. The cubs move on with a 65 win and the obvious first question to bruce bochy is why remove moore when he was pitching so well . He did his job. We were lined up. We had all of our guys, the set up guys, everybody there. You know, that he had gone far enough. And i would like to think that hes going to get three outs there that we could do it. Because with the job that he did we had all the guys set up we just couldnt get out. No question about that, but the people who dont like the pitch count, he threw 120 pitches, but looked so effective for eight innings and then youre in the post season. I guarantee you matt moore wanted to go out there and start what he started and finish what he started. There will be a lot of whatifs. Joe, thank you. You bet. Unlike last nights 13th inning nail biter the giants jumped ahead early tonight and then built on it. But a return to chicago for game five unfortunately was not to be and the fans went home tonight very disappointed. Weve got next season, its too bad that we couldnt full out, to come down to the last inning to lose it is a heartbreaker. It cost us all year. They thought Something Else was going to happen, but it didnt. At the end of the day the bullpen cost us. Its a hard loss. In the 9th inning, it was just tough. Well ktvu Debora Villalon is live now at the ballpark. Deb, at about 8 30 tonight we thought youd be interviewing a lot of ecstatic giants fans, but it didnt turn out that way. No, the streets are empty and they are still shouting if they had won. But the crowd was fantastic and the fans left here so sad and so subdued. Some of them just shook their head and they couldnt stop to even talk about it. They thought they had it and then it slipped away. Reporter the energy was there, fans clambering for the encore to mondays epic win. But this time after leaving the whole game the giants came from mind to overtake them. Came from behind and overtake them. Reporter some fans had to brace for it. If the giants lose, you know what, we lost to a good team. And a team this deserving to be in the playoffs. Reporter no sleeping giants this time as they did jump out quickly to have the momentum, but they couldnt kick their way into the extra innings again. Its the word series from 2010 and 2012 and 2014. Disappointing, but the fans but the fans would bring them to this point. Reporter you have grinders and guys that would like to take the ball out of the ballpark. We have new players, players that people have never even heard of, that they are just coming up, contributing in a way that it is going to make them go down into history. So it is fabulous. We have scutaro and cody ross and now gillaspie. We always find the guy thats going to come through to win the game for us. Thats fantastic. Orange october is over earlier than what anyone wanted. The magic of even years evaporated. Time to say goodbye to the sights and the smells of the ballpark. Every time we come dressed like this they win. Reporter back up the suits until spring training. Everybody smiles and it makes it that much fun. People love it. Reporter now only the long suffering cubs stay alive. For us it is respected it is expected. That is expected from us. But not so much for you guys. 100 wins in a season is pretty impressive for the cubbies. We expect to win the world series this year. If we dont itll be disappointing. Yes t is, yes, it is yes, it is, yes, it is thats why im grinning. Hey, chicago we did it. Reporter there are some very happy cubs fans here. Who could blame them . If there is any constellation at all, the last time the cubs had a shot at the world series was what 1908. Radio and television werent even invented yet. Maybe giant fans can comfort themselves with that frank. If anybody has to go to the world series it would be nice to see the cubs or the washington nationals. Deb, thank you. Go to ktvu. Com.
