Robert honda tells us what led to both shootings and why officers say they had no choice but to open fire. Reporter investigators here at San Jose Police headquarters are looking into both cases involving its officers, incidents that shook up people in two neighborhoods. The first officer involved shooting ended a wild series of events that police say when two men robbed a woman at gunpoint shortly before 1 00 a. M. This morning. According to investigators, the men fled in a vehicle but were spotted by police in a parking lot. The driver crashed into a fence and in the trying to get away pinned the officer with the car. The officer shot the suspect multiple times and he was taken to the hospital. I heard the shots and i heard screeching and somebody hitting another car of some sort and then i came out and noticed the guy was across the street and he was screaming help me, help me, ive been shot. He says im dying, im dying Reporter Police arrested this man, Raymond Anthony cardenes after he robbed a safeway store. He brandished air soft pistols identical to real black revolvers. None of the rounds struck the suspect, but it did convince him, fortunately, to surrender to the officers. Reporter for some people who live near the first incident, the two shootings scared them. A San FranciscoPolice Officer is out on bail tonight after being arrested on suspicion of child molestation. Told ktvu by phone his client believed the alleged victim in the case was not a minor. Mr. Hastings was explicitly told, reasonably believed, had some other cooblating information to conclude the person he was having consensual contact with was of legal age. Police say they arrested hastings yesterday morning following an investigation of his alleged relationship with a 15yearold boy. The District Attorney is now reviewing the case but has not filed any charges. Police say the alleged conduct did not happen while hastings was on duty. The sfpd has suspended him without pay. Fire investigators are looking into what sparked a house fire that critically injured a grandmother. Reporter it happened inside this home where the trailers is in the driveway. Police have been searching for evidence all day. Investigators say a relative of the two victims is under arrest. Police received a 911 call at 2 30 this morning and would soon arrest the man who made the call. The officers met with a 25 yearold male who met them at the front door and advised there were possible injuries to some of if residents inside. Reporter they found the bodies of two relatives who lived at the home for more than 40 years. A relative confirmed they are 76yearold nona and her 54 yearold son tony. He was just, hes a real good guy, wouldnt hurt a flea. We took the 25yearold male into custody. Reporter a relative says the 25yearold is Jeffrey Thomas flores and that hed been living with them for years. Police say theyve been called to the house before. The young man had psychological problems. Its been kind of falling apart over there. People parking on lawns and whatnot and just doesnt quite fit this kind of a peaceful neighborhood. Reporter police wouldnt say how the two relatives died, but they dont believe the killer used a gun. There are no other parties were looking for. We believe this is an isolated incident. Reporter we checked and these are the first homicides here in almost two years. Six dead birds infected with the west nile virus have turned up. Four found in brentwood, one in oakley. Urging people to wear mosquito repellant. Humans can be infected with the virus by mosquitoes who have already bitten infected birds.
