Pleasanton to fremont and then san jose northbound 101 already slow from north of 280 all the way up into Mountain View. We had an early problem on 101 that caused thebackup. Bay bridge toll plaza is backed up for a 20minute delay. Northbound 280 you can see how slow it is getting up to highway 17. Back to the desk. Thank you, sal. San franciscos muni is making some changes. Muni riders will notice them today. Alley mass russ is live in the studio. Theres about 140,000 people who ride muni every day. These changes will impact some of the bus routes. They will be running buses every nine minutes instead of the other way. The n judah will be impacted. A train just went by. Theres already people waiting for it. A Media Representative is here between 6 00 and 9 00 every weekday morning to help direct traffic and help sell traffic to people. This is a very, very sell tickets to people. This is a very, very busy line. Muni is adding two car trains to the n judah train starting today. Trains and buses will run more frequently or add more space. Muni is changing the routes, its part of a series of changes theyve enacted since the beginning of the year. Riders think its a good idea. Its always a good idea when you can take people off the street. Make the trains less crowded . Yes. More people are running the popular lines and they need the Additional Trains or buses. Southbound 101 near the shoreline boulevard offramp. That block of wood on the road caused big problems. And then several other drivers were stopping to help the ones whose tires were damaged. No one was hurt. The road is back open this morning. Also new this morning, a south bay house fire has left a family of four needing a new place to stay. Take a look at this video. This is from campbell. Investigators say the family was out grilling at their home on shelley near campbell at about 4 00 this morning, firefighters were called to the home. Officials say it appears the fire was an accident. It may have been sparked by that barbecue. Students in middletown will go back to school today. Mo, more than two weeks after the valley fire devastated their community. Classes begin at 9 00 this morning. Most of the campuses were not affected by the valley fire but Cobb Elementary School did have some smoke damage. Classes for those students will be held in portable classrooms behind middletown high school. Calfire is getting closer to full containment on the valley fire. Its now 97 contained. More more than 76,000 acres burned. Firefighters say if the weather continues to cooperate, the valley fire should be fully contained in about a week. Here is a warning about ticket sales for several festivals in the bay area and northern california. But the organizers have not filed for the proper permits. All you can eat crab festival it says will happen in downtown San Francisco at 10th and folsom. Even though tickets are selling online, no one has filed for the necessary permits to close streets in the area and serve alcohol. Then theres whats called the white galley which was supposed to happen back on august 29th. It was a night of comedy, music and celebrities. But this event never took place. Now police out in modesto are trying to figure out if the company promoting these questionable bay area events is the same one behind the modesto beer and bites festival. It was supposed to happen in the modesto park this past weekend. But city officials there say organizers never got approval for such a large scale event. You have to have a map for the fire department. Unfortunately, it appears to be a scam. And another event drawing scrutiny here in the bay area is called the naughty garden halloween masco raid masco raid ball. It is supposed to happen at the that po space center. But theyve canceled the reservation for this event because the organizers never put down the required deposit. It sounds like some people are getting refunds if the they paid through paypal. They slows to where it turns into bascom and connects to highway 85. Not too bad right now. But there are certain things that drivers are doing that are leading to accidents. The national Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the first three months of the year, there was a 10 increase in road fatalities. The Sacramento Bee reported the latest data shows in california theres been a 13 increase over three recent years. This trend is expected to increase. Transportation agencies say drivers using smartphones is a big risk factor because it leads to distracted drive hing. They also wonder if new Safety Technology in vehicles such as warning beeps, if another car gets too close is making drivers wonder about getting closer. We went to san diego and rented a car over the weekend. That car didnt have that and hes like i need to look over my shoulder and he wasnt as vigilant as before he got this car. The latest figures have dub tlins population around 52,000 people. Thats a 90 increase since the year 2000. Dublin high school is particularly impacted because this is the citys only high school. Right now, it has more than about 2,000 students but there are projections it could reach more than 3300 by the year 2019. This committee over the spring has come up with a population growth plan for the middle schools. Some of their ideas include no boundary changes or lottery having three different lunch periods, using portable classrooms and expediting the conconstruction the construction of jordan ranch school. This plan need approval from the board of trustees that may not happen until this year or next year. Some in the city council have called for a moratorium on any new housing developments. This makes it harder for criminals to forge the cards and steal information. The cards with chips have been used in europe for many years. Starting october 1st, businesses that dont have these new chip readers will have to cover the cost of fraudulent purchases. A California Company is involved as well. Yes, its very committing for women with early stage Breast Cancer. Chemo can be so invasive. The finding just released show a test can accurately identify women whose cancers are likely to respond to hormone blocking drugs. Adding chemo would not be worn not do enough good to outweigh the risks. A California Company makes the tests that measures the activity of genes that control cell growth and others that indicate a likely response to hormone therapy treatment. Women who skipped chemo base on the test had less than a 1 chance of cancer recurring within the next five years. The study involved the most time of Breast Cancer early stage without spreading to lymph nodes. Of the 10,000 women in the study, about 94 were free of any invasive cancer including new cancers at other sites. Now, the test is expensive. It runs about 4,000. But medicare and many insurance do cover it at this point. Other companies are getting in on the test on the market so that doctors hope the price will come down and it will become even more accurate as the competition grows with typical products. The more out there, the price will come down. As we talk about Breast Cancer and chemotherapy, the the effects can be so devastating so life changing. If theres any way to avoid that right. New this morning, several cars had flat tires on 101 in Mountain View and a block of wood upon the road is to on the road is to blame. It happened around 4 15 this morning. This committee over the spring has come up with a population plan for the middle schools. Having three different lunch period,ing portable classrooms and expediting jordan ranch school. Two schools are near capacity. The plan needs approval of the board of trustees. That may not happen until late this year or early next year. The other is funding. As we take it back out here live. Pretty interesting news this morning for women diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Pam cook is back in the studio with the results of a new study, pam. Many patients do not have to go through chemo. Its very interesting. The results show many women with earlystage Breast Cancer can skip chemotherapy without hurting their chances of fighting the disease. Now, the findings come from a gene activity test that gauges a patients response to hormone therapy treatment. The usual treatment is surgery followed by years of a hormone blocking drug but many women are also urged to have chemo to help kill any stray cancer cells that may have spread to other areas of the body. The new results of this test finds that can accurately identify women whose cancers are likely to respond so well to the hormone blocking drug that adding key me would not do enough good chemo would not do enough good to outweigh the risks. The study involved the most common type of Breast Cancer, early stage, that has not spread to limb of nodes. Of the 10,000 women in the stuty. 94 were free of any invasive kearns including new cancers at ear sites. The study was sponsored see the National Cancer institute. The results are published by the new england journal of medicine. Now, the company that makes the test is based here in redwood city. Its a publicly traded company.
