We have the camera on it and you can see the traffic is busy driving up to the bay bridge, basically stop and go up to the accident which is just before Treasure Island. There is a lot of slow traffic coming up and again, driving from oakland to San Francisco give yourself plenty of extra time. The metering lights have been switched to the slow rate and you will be will waiting at the toll plaza. The maccarthur maze will be slow and so far it looks okay. Highway 4 is slow moving on to different part of the bay area with pittsburg and bay point, 680 looking good and the south bay commute is off to a good start. We will keep following the bay bridge coming up. It is 6 02 am. The bart police are holding a News Conference in oakland right now to give us an update on the passenger. The same man is suspected of committing both attacks and one hour ago the bart Police Released this surveillance photo of the suspect. The first attack happened in san leandro and the man punched, kicked and hit another man in the head on the train before getting off the train and running out of the station. The same suspect on saturday hit another man in the face twice near the embarcadero station. Here is the News Conference going on at the lake merritt bart station in oakland select lesson in. The passenger was just sitting next to a young lady and he swung a parable cutters hitting him in the head. On the second incidents the passenger was holding onto the handrail and he took a swing at him and missed and then hit him again in the righthand with his right hand in the mouth. Reporter was the man intoxicated . On the first attack we do not know whether he was under the influence but he was holding a can of beer prior to the attack. He was boarded at san leandro and got off the train at the bay transit. The two suspects linked to the chicago homicide that turned themselves in at the bay area will face the judge today. We are live at the courthouse with the details. There are some strange twists in the case. Reporter the arraignment is scheduled for 9 am at the east county hall of justice in dublin. The men that will appear before the judge is 42yearold Wyndham Lathem of chicago surrendered in oakland on friday after being on the run for eight days and wanted in connection a connection with the murder of the 26yearold man from michigan that Wyndham Lathem had a personal relationship with but they did not elaborate on the details. The murder occurred in the chicago apartment on july 27 where the victim was brutally stabbed. Wyndham lathem teaches at Northwestern University and is being closely watched while being held in Alameda County and they say he is not doing well psychologically. The other suspect in the homicide is Andrew Warren who works at Oxford University in england and he surrendered on friday in San Francisco but we dont know when he is scheduled to be arraigned. On the day of the murder the men drove to wisconsin, 80 miles west of chicago and made a 1000 donation to the library in the name of the victim. The police said that was very unusual and they had never heard of anything like that happening before. Wyndham lathem recorded a video message he sent to his friends saying he was sorry for one of the worst mistakes of his life. The police have not released a video which is part of the evidence in the case. The attorney for Wyndham Lathem said that he hopes that the public does not rush to judgment against Wyndham Lathem. The Santa Rosa Police investigating the deadly shooting that occurred saturday morning and investigators report a 911 call received from the home. The caller said someone at the house was acting crazy and had a 12 inch kitchen knife and had injured a woman at the house already. It is 6 07 am. The Police Arrived to find a man hiding under the bed and three officers spent several minutes trying to talk with him and they said the suspect came toward the police and one officer shot and killed the man. The officers involved were wearing body cameras and are now placed on administrative leave. The Sonoma County Sheriffs Office is investigating and the police so far have not said the name of the man. The open police are investigating the discovery of a mans body at estuary park yesterday. It was found just after 9 00 yesterday morning south of the posey 2 and no police description of the man or information on how we died but homicide detectives are leading the investigation. If this is your bay bridge commute morning, leave a half hour early if you can or think about an alternate route. Bart is doing well. Looking at the east bay commute swear following other east bay commute highway 4 which is slow. 80 is not bad but it will start getting very busy approaching the berkeley area. If you want to go down to the san mateo bridge, southbound 880 is a little bit slow but the commute does not look too bad with westbound getting across the peninsula. You may want to consider that as an alternative route. Bart would also be good wake to get into the city today or on the ferries. It is 6 17 am. We have a cooler forecast with a change in the pattern and it took this low to backtrack to bring in that tropical moisture. If youre just waking up with us, we need to let you know there is a big problem on the bay bridge and sal will be here to talk about it. Lets talk about the weather. It is much cooler and it was a brutal july for some and it carried over for a few days into august. We have a major pattern change. We have signs that next week could be all like. All the paul like. Falllike. This activity triggered the thunderstorm and up through shasta and the low is drifting ever so slowly. It is ramping up the fog bank pretty good with that lightning detection, and a little bit of activity developing today. We are amazingly uniform on the temperatures and as close as ive seen in a long time with everyone in the upper 50s or low 60s. We have a deep fall bank and cooler air for most unless youre in lake county. Even that will be cooler with low clouds clearing, and a high in the 60s, 70s and 80s for most and below average on the temperatures in concord, livermore, santa rosa and san jose. We have a lot to get to and mostly the bay bridge. Yes. We are looking at a crash that has been up on the bay bridge for a long time westbound blocking two lanes and at first it was three lanes on the bay bridge westbound. Lets go to it. Three lanes are getting by but two are not. Obviously that is a big problem for the bay bridge with traffic at a standstill. They have started letting fewer people onto the bridge and that means that the traffic is backed up. You can see the traffic completely stopped. Even if you use the carpool lanes you will get through the toll plaza okay but you will be stuck on the bridge. You can see the carpool lanes getting through but this is a 45 minute delay. Tell your friends and think about using the ferry or bart. It will be one of those days, and if you have to use the car get out there 30 to 45 minutes earlier. That is a tall order on the bay bridge. Looking at the other east bay commute, traffic on highway for slow and contra costa looks okay. There is a new injury accident reported southbound 880 at 92 with two cars blocking one lane. If you are trying to get down to the san mateo bridge you will see slow traffic. It is 6 33 am. Reporter the bart police are concerned and they want to find the man they say attacked two passengers recently without warning. There was really no motive for the attacks and they say in one case he punched the passenger in the face and in the other case he struck a man with a large pair of bolt cutters. You can imagine they would like to find him and they are concerned he will strike again. They want him in custody before anyone else gets hurt. Investigators released the surveillance images this morning and this is the man wanted in connection with the two recent crimes. The most recent attack was saturday aboard the San Francisco inbound train approaching the embarcadero station. This man in this image punched a passenger in the face twice before running off. Last thursday they believe the same man is the person that swung a pair of large bolt cutters at an unsuspecting man sitting on the train near the san Leandro Bayfair station. In the first attack he went up to the passenger and he was just sitting next to a young lady and he swung the bolt cutters and hit him in the side of the head. The second one, the gentleman was standing and holding onto the handrail, and the man came and took a swing at the passenger, missed and hit him again with his right hand into his mouth. Reporter fortunately in both cases the victims suffered nonlifethreatening injuries and they are was expected to recover. These images were captured due to the newly installed cameras on board the bart trains used in the system and these attacks are part of a troubling trend so far for bart this year. Google plans on investing in a Transit Village to create a campus to accommodate 15,000 to 20,000 employees. The company just purchased land across the street from the station, Trammell Crow creating 8 million square feet of office space and housing advocates say it is important that the new housing is included in the project. The delays will continue through the morning and i would say to give yourself extra time or consider an alternate route like bart and the fairies. On the east bay commute traffic is busy on some commutes with highway 4 slow, six 80 is okay but 80 is slow due to the bridge troubles and 580 is backed up. Coming out of dublin there is a crash heading down to the i84 interchange with a few lanes block and traffic out of pleasanton. It is a rough start for this monday morning. This pattern change with this low pressure system slowly working its way into austrian the full moon at 11 10. If you want to howl or bark at the moon, go right ahead. I just might. We have a bigger fog bank and cooler air with that circulation, and it ushered in a cooler pattern which fired up the thunderstorms over the sierra, northeast california and northern Sacramento Valley.
