good morning everybody, the weather and traffic are in agreement that you need to watch out for the fog on the golden gate bridge, very low and enough to where it could be hazardous for driving in southern marin on the golden gate bridge. parts of san francisco and even parts of the east bay, and it could be hard for you to see. don't forget to turn your headlights off when you get to work, but be careful driving through southern marin and parts of the bay area where the fog is coming through. traffic will be light at the bay bridge, and the fog is there but not low enough to affect the visibility of the drivers but still a 25 minute delay before you make it onto the span. 880 oakland looking good with no major issues and traffic continues to look good. in the east bay traffic is okay but i wait for is pretty slow from bay point into pittsburg. backing up a little bit, southbound 680 has been very slow driving from pleasanton heading down toward the sunol grade you will see the traffic will be slow. it is 6:02 am. we go back to the san francisco bayview district where the developing story with one man in custody, and the police are searching for at least two others after a home invasion late last night, and christien kafton is in san francisco. the police said they exchanged gunfire with one of the suspects. >> reporter: they sure did. the investigation is still underway in the bayview. you can take a look and see that the officers are still on the scene with crime scene investigators still here examining the home where this all started. investigators were called to the same for what was initially a home invasion. when they arrived they approached the front door the home and the suspect failed out the back of the house. the police did not say how many people there looking for at this time but at least one suspect fired a gun at the suspect -- at the officers and the officer fired back. multiple suspects were running and reportedly dashing over the fences in the backyards and they were able to catch one suspect in the home invasion. they have issued a shelter in place and locked down the neighborhood but the other suspects managed to get away. at least one occupant in the home was injured in the home invasion, the officers say they do not believe the suspects pose an ongoing risk to the area. >> we believe this residence was targeted and they chose that house for reason, but i cannot go into specifics. we do not feel there is a larger threat to the neighborhood in general. >> reporter: at this point officers not telling me why they believe the home was targeted, or what if anything the suspects managed to get away with. there is also no word on how many suspects there looking for, and the best source of information could be the suspect that is now in custody. they are looking to see if the suspect in custody was a gunman but they are not saying whether the firearm has been recovered. there looking for tips from the community to gain more information to get this issue resolved, but for now the crime scene technicians are still on scene along with the officers on scene to protect the same. officers say they do not believe there is an ongoing threat, and they believe the home was targeted for the home invasion. >> christien kafton in bayview, thank you. happening today the defense is scheduled to call the first witness in the penalty phase of the sierra lamar murder trial, prosecutors wrapping up their case thursday against antolin garcia-torres with emotional testimony by the parents of sierra lamar. her body was never found but the jury found garcia-torres guilty on all counts including the murder of the teenager, along with the attempting of kidnapping of three other women. the jury did now have to decide whether to implement the death penalty or life in prison. a man and woman reported to have been yelling at each other in a different apartment and officers arrived to find 36- year-old eduardo ramirez in the parking lot stabbing himself. they used a taser to subdue him and found the injured family members inside, and they are all expected to survive. they say that ramirez was getting increasingly despondent before the attack but they are still looking into exactly what led to the attack. it is 6:05 am. note success -- no success in the search on the water for the man it disappeared in the delta on saturday. he was boating in bair island, and his son fell in and he jumped into rescuing him, the boy was pulled out but his dad is not been found. contra costa fire and other agencies had joined in the search, and one woman said the currents can be very strong where the rivers merge. >> i watch for seek help -- sea kelp and the vegetation in the water, and the seed otters -- sea otters coming out toward the ocean, you have to watch that current right there where the rivers merge, there is always an undercurrent. >> the search was called off last night because it was too dark but they have not said whether they will be back on the water today to continue the search. responding to the fire near fifth street and embarcadero, alex savidge is live to tell us about the fire. >> reporter: good morning. the oakland fire department is wrapping up at the scene of the fire at the homeless encampment that is basically underneath interstate 880. here is the same where we are, on the other side of the railroad tracks from the encampment. you can see where the fire broke out this morning, and as you look up toward the freeway, that is 880 above, and you can see the char i guess you would call it on the side of the freeway. according to the fire department flames were shooting into the air all the way up and over the top of the freeway. we will bring in the battalion chief with the oakland fire department, good morning. what were the challenges you are facing and obviously access was a big issue. >> we have to called union pacific asked them to shut down the railroads from both directions, and when to get two engine companies here to shut -- shuttle the water because there are no fire hydrants on this side of the tracks. they had delayed the hose lines across the tracks to get to the area that was on fire. we went through 1000 gallons of water approximately to put out the fire. >> reporter: any idea how the fire started? >> it is hard to tell and we've been here twice in the last month for a fire. my lieutenant was telling me that this fire, the fire the last time they used pacific union to clear out the homeless encampment, but when we arrived there was no one at the scene, so we are unsure whether anyone is move back in to the encampment. you cannot tell that there's anyone living here because there are no tents and the last time we were here there were tents. >> reporter: again, they are just wrapping up from this fire, but the key is fed to pull these hose lines across the railroad tracks. obviously this track services amtrak so all likelihood we would have amtrak delays. they are just now wrapping up and we should be getting the train tracks back open soon after this large fire at this homeless encampment in oakland that can be seen from testify before the senate intel committee before memorial day. it is 6:15 am. the budget plan for the fiscal 2018 is said to be delivered tomorrow to the lawmakers as part of the new way of spending proposals calling for cuts in several benefit programs including medicaid, federal employee pensions, welfare benefits and farm subsidies. food stamps are expected to be cut $193 billion over the next 10 years, or the 25%. the budget also calls for 1.6 be in dollars to build the border wall along with an extra $300 million for border and immigration agents. news this morning north korea confirms a missile launch over the weekend. >> the medium-range missile was fired yesterday morning and the u.s. pacific command confirms that landed in the sea of japan. north korea says they are ready to mass-produce and deployed more of those missiles, and this comes a week after north korea successfully tested a longer-range missile. it is 6:16 am. is everybody behaving on this monday morning? >> yes but we have one area that will be a tough one, and that will be the sunol grade. we have been talking about this, getting out of pleasanton is where we need to start. the crash it's an all -- at sunol boulevard, and it does not take much in this area to be a hotspot. the crash blocking lanes made it worse driving from dublin to the free mark, all of pleasanton and 680 southbound is slow. it gets better reaching the fremont area but heading on driving south not affecting you in to the south bay which does not look too bad right now. it will be slow on the sunol grade. looking at the san mateo bridge, westbound 92 getting crowded heading to the peninsula and the morning commute on interstate 880 looking good in both directions. the fog is not low enough here to be a problem for drivers or on highway 24 in lafayette, including sunny and nice right now. at the bay bridge overcast but not too foggy but the fog will be low for parts of san francisco, marin county and on the peninsula. we will let steve talk about that. it is 6:17 am. you nelda, low for some and not making it over the hills yet for others, very thick fog on the golden gate bridge, and also in the city as well. low clouds making a stronger push, 50s and 60s by the coast and 70s and 80s along the bay, 90s inland. the theme is that the fog will continue to ramp up and when it makes its move on the marin sonoma border, it can be very difficult. san francisco 66 and 51 for the low. the record high was 85 and the record low 44 in 1909. the delta breeze is not cranked up and that is why we cannot drop the temperatures yet but we will tuesday through thursday with temperatures coming down 25 degrees. a huge fog bank out there, and that cold water we have talked about. monterey went down from 55 to 54, and not enough of it onshore breeze yet and the key is that delta breeze that is going down. if you want cooler weather, that is not a good sign but a good sign if you want warmer weather. 50s on the temperatures with the lowe's cooling off, 40s and 50s. some of the higher elevations warmer in the 60s but gilroy upper 40s, scotts valley 49, cupertino 52, 32 in truckee, 52 and ukiah with plenty of low clouds and fog, raring to go. that ridge of high pressure will buckle and it will do that tomorrow allowing cooling to take place, some today and most tomorrow. anywhere from the 50s to the 90s. for others in the 60s and 70s, a huge spread with a good 30 degrees spread on some of the temperatures. this looks like the hottest day by far this week and temperatures plunging and we will cool off well into wednesday and thursday, rebounding by the weekend but not as hot as this last weekend. what about the allergies? >> it has been bad for a while with the trees and the grass. >> it is bad in san diego county are making progress on the firefighters that forced evacuations of the weekend. the fire started in a small community and quickly spread, and cal fire says the fire is now 70% contained. it has burned over 2000 acres, no homes have burned but hundreds of people at the campground had to be evacuated. cal fire is calling this a criminal investigation. they say that someone posted video on instagram which appears to show the people starting the fire. we are at the peak of the tick season and the danger of tick bites is danger and greater than usual with more than average this year. heavy rains means more grass, leaves and fallen logs which is where the tics live, and as it warms up more people had outside where the tics are. stanford researchers say that people should take precautions when enjoying the outdoors including wearing your shoes and socks with long pants tucked into your socks. take off your hiking clothing when you return home and put them in a hot from here to vacaville. it never used to be that way. the traffic never used to be that way but that is the way it is now. we have a good fog bank, and the coast in babel cooldown which started the trend yesterday. the fog is not high enough to clear the coastal hills with some at the san pablo bay but not in the strait, so it will probably not make it inland until tomorrow. san jose and 86-56. by ease san jose it will probably be 91. the record low was 34 in 1895. low clouds and fog, planning and lot more than yesterday with water temperatures cold, but jacob a is slightly below average. student and his family at the hospital last night, and what did they say?>> reporter: they said that chad miller is improving and is condition is getting better but he is at the medical center recovering from stab wounds incurred saturday night, and he is a junior at san jose state, and he played safety on the football team. he is conscious and able to communicate according to the spokesperson, and he is expected to recover but remains at the hospital after this saturday night incident. here's photos of miller in his part uniform from the instagram account. miller was in downtown san jose with a group of friends when they got into an altercation and miller ended up being stabbed. it is unclear whether the friends he was with our other football players or other san jose state students. the san jose police are in charge of this investigation because it happened off-campus in downtown san jose. we reached out to the investigators and as far as we know no one has been arrested and we hope to have an update from investigators later this morning and we have requested to speak to somebody from the athletic department are football team but they say right now they are asking for privacy in light of what has happened to their teammate. it is 6:34 am. a house fire in antioch led to the discovery of the huge marijuana grow operation. the fire started on bugle way yesterday afternoon, and the cell phone video from the neighbor shows this heavy smoke coming from the home. firefighters said they knew it was a marijuana grow house right away due to the bars on the windows, barricaded doors, and the electrical meters have been tampered with. after forcing their way into the home they found marijuana plants in almost every room of the house. >> it is quite a bit, several rooms that are full, and they essentially took this single- family dwelling and turned it into a complete grow house. there were five or six rooms that all have marijuana growing in them. >> firefighters say that the fire started outside in the planter bed and could've been caused by a lit cigarette. it is 6:35 am. a san bruno man accused of killing and dismembered his neighbors do back in court today, david stubblefield accused of shooting his neighbor, 77-year-old benjamin roy ball in march after arguing over space heater and they say that david stubblefield cut up the body and try to get rid of it using chemicals. during the last court hearing he pled not guilty to several charges including homicide, robbery and burglary, being held on a $10 million bail. bill cosby is expected to be the pittsburgh, pennsylvania courtroom today as lawyers interview the potential jury members in the trial of cosby. 's lawyers have asked for a change of venue hoping to find unbiased people deserve. the jury will decide whether costly drug and molested the temple university woman basketball manager at his home in 2004. the trial is set to begin june 5 in pittsburgh. a man accused of driving a car into a crowd of people in the new york times square said he has been trying to get psychiatric help, richard rojas accused of killing the teenager from michigan and injuring 20 others when he drove onto the sidewalk and continue to drive and run into people for three blocks last thursday. when he was stopped by the police he said he wanted to, "kill them all." now he tells the new york post he wanted to fix his life, get a job, and get a girlfriend. he apologized to the families of the victims. focusing on gate bridge. if you're driving across the golden gate bridge or in southern marin, you will see this. i will show you the east shore, and you can't see much. you can kind of see it moving along with the 37 minute drive including the earlier trouble through hercules were we had a crash. the bay bridge is blacked up for a 25 minute delay but nothing out of the ordinary. you should be okay in the carpool lanes, and here is a look at interstate 880 would traffic moving well in both directions. 680 looking okay from concord to walnut creek with a little bit of slow traffic, and slow traffic on 680 out of dublin due to the earlier accident that is now gone but traffic is still very slow. allow extra time if that is your commute it is 6:48 am. thick fog for some, and in the looks like it is one more hot day because we don't have enough delta breeze yet. the low clouds making a push over san pablo bay, oakland and san francisco, so the stage is set for the cooler pattern. a cool time at the coast and one more hot day inland. the breeze will kick in making temperatures drop in it appears tomorrow is the main day before gets much cooler inland. coming down 25 degrees between wednesday and thursday but another day of thick fog keeping the coast in the 50s and 60s, 80s and 90s in the interior but thursday 60s and 70s for about everybody. the coast dealing with more fog been yesterday, slow to burn off for some, inland temperatures still warm and toasty. i think we topped out yesterday for many although there is always a few that will hold on one more day. low clouds and
