put on your hairspray -- hair up, you are done. 50s on the northbay temps, calistoga, glen allen, kelseyville all in the upper 40s, low 50s for petaluma, napa and even tamron. i think the low clouds will get wiped out on saturday. that is our system that is coming in for sunday. it looks like the northbay gets in on that first rain. 50s and 60s and you will see low 70s for many. good morning sal. >> good morning steve. we are looking on a commute that is not bad. this is westbound 580. we will start there. you will see slow traffic this morning if you are driving on 580 as you drive over toward the altamont pass. it is just not as bad as normal but there is some slowing went to get over the hill to the livermore valley. it looks okay when you get to the dublin interchange. traffic is not bad on the freeway here in oakland, north and south 880. it's a nice- looking drive. if you are driving to the toll plaza, still good, usually 5:30 is when they have the metering lights on. just a few moments ago there was a brush fire reported that the toll plaza. i am looking at the toll plaza and i don't see anything but they are sending out a fire engine just to investigate. maybe i am missing it but i don't see anything right now. let's go back to the desk. several homes of been destroyed by wildfires in the santa cruz mountains. the numbers have gone up. homeowners, for a good reason, are really worried. >> the fire is still not under control. janine de la vega is in morgan hill's with an update work -- update. >> reporter: good morning pam. we are at a staging area, where we were just told there are trees that have fallen overnight and some trees may still fall. it is blocking casa loma road which is a row that firefighters have been using to go up the mountain. that is a concern. the latest we have is that the loma fire has destroyed eight homes and 9 outbuildings and burned more than 4100 acres and is 34% contained. it continues to burn into rain that is an accessible. last night people that live in the mountain communities who had to evacuate from their homes met with cal fire at [ indiscernible ] elementary school. they want to know how bad the damages and when they can go back. we spoke with one woman who said she had -- is not sure if her home has been destroyed butter friends have lost everything. >> they lost everything, their pets in their house. [ crying ] they just lost everything. and we are not out of danger. >> reporter: fire officials say with the temperatures dropping weather conditions have changed. firefighters are preparing for the worst because wind gusts of 30 miles an hour are expected this weekend. cruise on the ground are holding containment lines right now, hoping to get things under control. as for the cause, as far as we know, it is still under investigation by cal fire. accounting live, as far as this road, the fight fires -- firefighters are going to try to get workers in here to clear the trees so it can be accessible for firefighters once again. >> oh my gosh. a lot of work ahead. thank you janine. cal fire says the fire in sonoma county is now 100% contained. it started five days ago just five days each -- 5 miles east of cloverdale and burned more than 1600 acres. two minor injuries are reported and no structures were damaged. investigators are still looking for the cause. new from overnight, a violent demonstration in el cajon against tuesday's deadly officer involved shooting. >> [ sound of gunfire ] [ screaming ] >> flash bangs were fired by police to push back protesters. between 50 and 75 protesters blocked a major intersection in that san diego suburb last night. some demonstrators threw bottles at police and smashed car windows. protesters even got into shouting matches with drivers and motorcyclists. one man was knocked off his motorcycle and attacked. it was the third straight night of the -- protests in el cajon after the shooting that took the life of alfred olango. his mother spoke for the first time about the death of her son. >> i know i am telling you the truth. my son is a good loving young man. only 38 years old. >> the family of alfred olango is angry that police released a single still image of the shooting from a cell phone. it showed him winning an object of a police officer who then shot and killed him. the object turned out to be an electronic cigarette. effort along those family wants the entire video -- alfred olango's family wants the entire video release. a federal investigative team is in hoboken new jersey at the scene of the deadly train crash trying to find out why it ran through the stop, ran through a bumper, went airborne and then crashed through the train station. a woman at the train platform was killed. she had just humidity as well as cool temperatures. low clouds will probably be the biggest issue this morning. onshore at haywood, 28 to 35 and gusts -- 25 miles an hour and 35 mile an hour gusts in the area. we are looking at low to mid 50s for the east bay temps. 51 lafayette, walnut creek 51 as well, san ramon, brentwood is down to 52 which is cooler than martinez. that's a cool pattern. 45 in ukiah, 37 in truckee. that is a very cool pattern. there's not a lot to work with here. i think it will max itself out. we are going to get more sun on saturday but it's not going to warm up that much. it looks like late sunday and monday there will be a secondary system that is a little stronger work i think it produces a little bit more precipitation. i think the north bay will be the first to get the rain. once the low cloud deck burns off on -- i think it has settled as low as it can go. we will have northbay rain on sunday and maybe even down into some parts of the east bay and peninsula late looking at a stalled vehicle here on westbound 80th right at the macarthur maze. it is blocking one of the lanes and the bridge crews, one of the motorcycle officers has arrived but can't push it. they are calling for a bridge truck to come here. if you could pull back a little bit on this shot, i want people to see that this is beginning to cause some slowing on the macarthur maze on the ramp williams and -- ken zink was killed in a non--- in a motorcycle accident. >> reporter: you can see that officer ken zink's has a memorial -- memorial has been set up. students do begin to say goodbye to the 53-year-old officer today. he was headed to school on his harley-davidson yesterday morning when he crashed into a truck and was hit by a big rig. that crash shut down parts of interstate 80 for hours yesterday morning. students and administrators at helms middle school say that he reached out to active teens taking on an active role to advocate for the children he protected. >> he was a rock for them, helping them bridge with their families. when there were problems, helping them at school, when they couldn't concentrate work >> reporter: -- concentrate. >> reporter: we may be speaking with the police chief later today. officer zink one numerous awards over his career. students and fellow officers agree that what set him apart was his ability to connect with and help section and click on web links. news this morning, world leaders including president obama gathered in jerusalem today for the funeral of former israeli president shimon peres. the president along with many other international dignitaries is there. this includes french president francois hollande, prince charles. he died at the age of 93 from a stroke. president obama gave the last eulogy. >> i could not be more honored to be in jerusalem to say farewell to my friend shimon peres, who showed us that justice and hope are at the heart of the zionist idea. >> president obama also mentioned the palestinian president saying the fact that he was there at the funeral was a jester and reminder of the unfinished business of these tech shimon peres shared modell peace prize in 1994 for trying to resolve the israeli- palestinian conflict work -- conflict. he visited here in the bay area years ago and we talked with people that met him. >> not only was he here but he didn't even seem tired at scheduled for october as well. officials in contra costa county will begin a four-day strike. the union represents 1100 workers in the department of employment and human services part of the labor dispute includes pay, low staffing levels, safety issues and the lack of resources in the public assistance programs that serve children, seniors and the homeless. county officials are not commenting about the strike except to say that they are hoping to resolve the matter at the bargaining table. some union workers in san jose say they are planning more demonstrations in the days ahead. yesterday, 1000 electricians, plumbers and sheet metal workers in pipefitters marched to a construction site near san pedro and julian streets yesterday. they are upset about a new luxury high-rise under construction at that location. the demonstrators a developer, katy urban is bringing in nonunion workers from outside the bay area. >> more and more we see construction work going to construction workers out of the state or out of the area and they are not getting paid benefits and good wages. it's terrible for those workers in terrible for the local economy. ktvu news went to an office in cupertino for reaction we were told the company has no comment. today and oakland police officer and former contra costa sheriff's deputy are expected in court to face criminal charges connected to an expanding police 6 scandal. giovanni low verde and ricardo perez are due to be arraigned today on felony sex charges with a minor. perez also faces charges of lewd conduct in public. seven current and former officers from these bay are facing are will face criminal charges in connection with the scandal. the now 19-year-old former sex quarter of the center of the scandal is jim's been a muslim who has filed -- jasmine about one who has filed a lawsuit. 12 oakland officers were disciplined for their involvement in the scandal and dozens of other officers at other agencies were investigated. today san francisco's district attorney will hold a meeting designed to raise awareness about sexual assaults on college campuses. crime experts say the first six weeks of college is known as the red zone. that's when new students are most vulnerable to being sexually assaulted. dist. atty. george gaston says his office wants to educate students about the danger of this crime is a lawyer is now awaiting sentence after pleading guilty to a bizarre kidnapping in vallejo. he pled to one kidnapping charge in federal court yesterday. he was facing a maximum sentence of life in prison but as part of his pre-deal -- we deal, prosecutors said they would not ask for more than 40 years. matthew mueller is expected for sentencing in january. cameras were not allowed in the sacramento courtroom but he admitted he drugged denise huskins and then kidnapped here. he held her hostage at his home in lake tahoe and demanded a ransom. he then drove her to her hometown of huntington beach and released her. >> mr. mueller was trying to show that he was accepting responsibility and we feel that this is the way that will someday open a door for him to return to society. >> an attorney representing hoskins and quinn says the guilty plea is a big step towards justice but he also said vallejo police and the fbi mishandled the case by initially calling it a hoax. >> they didn't do a good job in this case. they impeded the investigation to the point where denise had to suffer through two days of english and assault. >> he says one hoskins was being held, the kidnapper said he planned to call her boyfriend but his phone was put on airplane mode by investigators and they never received the call. coming up at 6:00, the areas that will be targeted in an effort to than it normally is. it is going to be a little bit slow however. we have a problem at the macarthur maze, a stalled vehicle. you can see it right there on the ramp. the traffic will be busy as you drive through. this is westbound 80 that is backing up now as you drive out toward the maze. that ramp is getting slower and as it gets lower, some of the traffic here in oakland is also getting slower, still only about a 20 minute drive between the carquinez bridge and the toward the maze because the volume -- the macarthur maze because the volume is a little bit lower. we are looking at a
