convention is -- the republican convention will be held at the hyatt regency tomorrow near sfo and all three republican candidates are expected to make an appearance there. of course to rally support. donald trump is starting early and kicks off his campaign in california with a rally in orange county before making his way to the convention. he has an early lead over texas senator ted cruz and john kasich. supporters of hillary clinton will be out in force. they'll be opening a campaign office in oakland today. it's going to be located downtown on 14th street. the huffington post combined poll results which show clinton 49% to 42% over bernie sanders. sanders is laying off hundreds of staffers so he can focus on winning california and the other remaining contests. california's primary is know about that coming up at 6:00. a search for a gunman continues in pacifica for a man who police say shot a pregnant woman in the head. investigators say the suspect, 25-year-old ricardo calindres is armed and dangerous. he tried to kidnap his former girlfriend who works as a receptionist at an apartment complex. he shot her when she refused to go with him. the victim is marissa johnson. both johnson and her unborn baby are listed in stable condition. christien kafton is in pacifica this morning. he'll bring you a live update on the police search for the suspect in the next half hour. new from overnight, emeryville police want your help. they are searching for a gunman in an overnight shooting. 9:30 last night. police received 911 calls about shots fired at 42nd and adeline. a dark colored vehicle was chasing a red car and the red car pulled into a driveway trying to escape. the dark colored vehicle fired several shots and then both cars took off. several bullets hit a house and no one inside was hurt. the police investigation and the search continues. >> >> there's a new development in the beating of a suspected car thief by deputies in san francisco in an alleyway last november. ktvu news has learned of a new video that shows one of the kepts twirling around something shiny after stance love pet relative was beaten. you can hear a metal clink. this is important because a homeless couple told us that the deputies gave them a gold chain in an alleged bribe to keep them quiet. >> my jaw dropped because it completely corroborates what the witnesses have said, and now you have more than a smoking gun. you've got the smoking chain where he's twirling the chain around. >> so far, the two deputies have not been charged in the beating. one deputy sean osborne is on leave. investigators believe he's the one in the video with the chain. this morning in the east bay for people taking prescription drugs, in 20 minutes why health officials say you should not city is considering a $260 million loan. the budget and finance committee approved the proposal and it will go for a vote next week. we're learning what happened to a new bart train when it failed to stop during a test run. bart says a damaged wire pinched by a door caused the brakes to malfunction sending the train into a sand berm at the end of the test track in hayward. it was going 10 miles per hour at the time. >> so the car did not fail. the operators did not do anything wrong. in fact, they did everything that they could to apply the brakes and stop the vehicle. >> bart says the car was not damaged and the agency says it's on schedule to put the first 10 car train into service by the end of this year. >> bart police have installed two automatic license plate readers at the macarthur bart station hoping to cut down on property crimes. they plan to present the program today at the board of directors meeting. the plan is to install the readers at every bart station. and privacy and civil rights advocacy are concerned about how long bart will keep the information or how the information will be used. the chp is reminding drivers it's never okay to text while driving, everyone if your car is stopped at a red light. according to the california office of traffic safety. talking or texting on the phone is the number one cause of distracted driving. california's department of motor vehicles sent out a tweet reminding motorists that while the engine is on, you have to keep devices off at all times. >> if you're in control of the vehicle in the driver's seat on ukiah. and any kind of thunderstorm activity should be south of tahoe and truckee. this is the pattern in the four corners and the plains. and that will be a severe weather maker. we are on the warmer side. and it's going to get windy late friday to saturday. and temperatures will bump up 70s and low 80s. mostly sunny, breezy at times, and patchy low clouds. near normal temps, a little bit above as you work your way inland. it doesn't take long to jump up to the mid-70s. and other locations will be in the 60s. north and east bay hills, good to have wind advisories on saturday. and temperatures in northern california. and this is video of a water spout at lake berryessa. and a camper from fairfield. they captured this from the north side of the lake, lake berryessa. and there was rain and hail in many parts of the bay area. starting today we'll see a big warmup. heading into a warm weekend. a 19-year-old man suspected in a deadly shooting in south san francisco is now in jail. investigators say christian omar cruz was arrested in stockton. he's accused of shooting at two men at orange memorial park monday afternoon. nicholas gomez died and the second man is in stable condition. police believe it stemmed from an earlier dispute and is not considered gang related. we're following developments about the death of prince. several reports say prescription painkillers were found near his body when he died last week. the drugs were reportedly found in his home near minneapolis. the home known as paisley park. the investigators have not said what role the medications may have played in the death of prince. a judge in minnesota has appointed a corporate trus company to oversee that huge estate. the judge says this emergency appointment was necessary because prince does not appear to have a will. and there are hundreds of millions of dollars at stake. prince was not married. he had no known living children. and he only has one full sibling, his sister, fica nelson -- tyka nelson. what a teacher is accused of doing online which tricked some students into sending inappropriate photos. we'll have the latest on the search for a man who shot a pregnant woman low dropping down. and the water temps are in the upper 40s. that's cold, cold, cold. the coldest in a while. and the systems from the north, not only are they giving us rain but you get that northwest flow and that's all good. the low is now down to southern california, southern nevada, and arizona. for las vegas, that's pretty impressive. 40s and 50s. 40, napa airport. and 50 santa rosa. 43 for concord. and also mount diablo. 46 san ramon. there'll be a will ill component of the breeze. there could be a few pop-up showers. mostly sunny and low clouds have settled in around san jose and the santa rosa valley. it will be warmer, near normal temps. a few mid-70s out to the east bay. it's 5:30 and the metering lights are clicking on and traffic is -- >> moderate. there's a little bit of slow traffic but it's not that bad. let's see what we have. and start with the east bay as we always do. you can see traffic is going to be backed up at the toll plaza. and the metering lights go on about 5:30 and you'll see a backup driving up to the toll plaza. once you get on the bridge, it looks good into san francisco. and we're watching san francisco on northbound 101. and it looks good from the south end of the city to the downtown area. and in the east bay we don't have much going on. we see a little bit of slowing down and a couple of minor incidents, for the most part in general, we're off to a good start. let's go back to the desk. the pregnant victim of a vicious attack is recovering this morning. christien kafton is in pacifica. police are looking for suspect. >> police telling us is suspect is armed and dangerous. he shot a pregnant woman in the head on wednesday morning. friends have identified the victim in this case as 25-year- old marissa johnson. she is eight months pregnant and recovering at an area hospital. she worked as a receptionist at an apartment complex and that's where the suspect tried to kidnap her. the victim refused to go along with him. and that is when he pulled the trigger. johnson was rushed to the hospital where doctors considered an emergency delivery and ultimately decided not to induce labor. >> she was eight months pregnant. and i believe everyone is stable at this point. >> reporter: the victim, johnson, had a restraining order against the suspect. and that restraining order expired last month. pacifica police are looking for a motive and searching for suspect. police say he took off in a silver toyota camry. he is a transient and he does frequent the brisbane area. a note for anyone out there who might know the location of colindres. call 911 and do not try to approach him on your own. that suspect is armed and dangerous. >> thank you, christian, for that update. time is 5:33 and this morning we have new -- a enough story to tell you about. police in the east bay have issued a silver alert for a missing elderly man. that's 87-year-old slow say ledezma. take a look at the per. he's latino brown eyes, weighs 140 pounds. he was last seen wearing a straw hat, gray sweater vets, he suffers from a medical condition and may become disoriented. if anyone who sees him should contact the police right away. for weeks, counterfeit prescription pills have been turning up in the sacramento area. and now the fake painkillers are showing up in the bay area. the contra costa health department says four people in the county overdosed on what appears to be counterfeit prescription drugs laced with fentanyl. and the health department is urging people not to buy from any place other than a licensed pharmacy. >> people think they are getting hydrocodone and they have fentanyl. they're getting a much stronger narcotic medicine than they are aware. >> there have been overdoses in several other bay area counties but no reports of deaths. fentanyl laced pills have been linked to deaths in the sacramento area. a safe medication disposal kiosk will be unveiled at the walgreens in the 400 block of castro street. it's one of five new locations walgreens is opening in sacramento to dispose of medications at no cost. the installation of the kiosks began in california and they'll expand to 39 other states by the end of the year. a counterterrorism drill seemed pretty real. >> it speaks to the importance of training and practicing being in different scenarios. >> the students teamed up with the fbi as part of a class in the international relations department. the scenario involved terrorists taking over a bart train and holding hostages. students played the roles of terrorists, police negotiators, journalists, and diplomats. >> it speaks to the importance of trains first of all and practicing being in these different scenarios. >> when an incident occurring in real life, it's always good to keep a mental note, what would i do in that situation? >> the class professor says one lesson everyone should take away is to run and hide during a terror attack. but people also have to be prepared to fight. past advice was to comply with terrorists who wanted to exchange hostages for their demands. but the modern day terrorist is just looking to raise the casualty toll. the fbi won't reveal how it was able to gain access to the locked iphone. the agency paid a third party more than a million dollars to break into that iphone. in an unusual statement, the fbi said it did not have enough technical information about the hacking software and did not buy the rights on how it works. time is 5:36 and now we're hearing the video dispatch call connected to yesterday's death at apple's headquarters in cupertino. >> [ indiscernible due to background noise ] santa clara investigators won't confirm or deny the details in the recording. but they say it was an isolated incident. there are no signs of foul play. body was found in a conference room after 8:30 yesterday morning. we don't know the name of the man involved. a san francisco police officer has been arrested in connection with a widening scandal at the police department. former lieutenant curtis lu is accused of filing a false police report and obstructing a rape investigation. he's accused of warning fellow officer jason li has a woman had accused him of rape. he's accused of writing a series of homophobic and racist text messages which the public defender says have called into question 200 criminal cases he helped to investigate. a high school science teacher was arrested, accused of tricking minors into sending him inappropriate messages on the internet. he was arrested on charges of felony child enticement. he tricked kids into thinking he was a woman. a letter has been sent to parents at the high school, le has been put on administrative leave. if you have information about this case, call san jose police. also this morning, dove nation is celebrating. the warriors move on. it was a blowout last night. alex savidge joins us now live. the warriors can win without steph curry. >> clay thompson knocked down seven threes in the game and finished with 27 points. sean livingston dropped in 16 points. and draymond green came close to a triple double. they eliminated the rockets officers helped protect the sale from people passing by until rescuers arrived at the scene. officials say the sale appeared to be malnourished, weighing only 15 pounds. a record number of sales were rescued in the bay area last year. and a lot of it had to do with the rough weather. big developments on the uc davis campus where the chancellor has been placed on leave. janet napolitano removed her from her job. she reportedly used $175,000 in university money to scrub online postings about a controversial pepper spraying of demonstrators five years ago. adding to the controversy, reports she has taken high paying outside jobs while serving as chancellor. people with student loan debt may be getting help from the white house. a website was launched that allows a person to find the best repayment options including pay as you earn. this means your payments would be readjusted to ones you can afford. they are capped at 10% of income. the website is student loans.gov/repay. hopefully, no big problems on this morning's commute. >> nothing major yet. we have slow traffic out there. and i'm going to start with the east bay and check out the commute from contra costa county to alameda county. starting with highway 24, there's a little bit of slow traffic heading west. and a little bit of slow traffic from 680 through pleasant hill. it continues to get busier by the moment. it's backed up for a 20-minute delay before you make it to the span. no major problems there. san mateo and dumbarton looking good. from the east bay to a relatively uncrowded bay shore freeway. 5:48 and let's go to steve. >> any reports of fog on the traffic there? i know san jose has some. >> i'm looking at all my cameras. no, i don't see any. >> good, thank you, sir. >> we have some low clouds around san jose and santa clara valley. it's mostly clear out there. there are a few high clouds out there. yesterday's rainfall was okay to not bad. the heaviest rain was out to the valley. what's interesting was sacramento downtown had 2/3 of an inch of rain. and the sacramento airport had a trace. there were areas that picked up a lot of rain. stockton, modesto. and livermore hills, .42. hayward a third of an inch. san francisco is in there with 13/100ths. and redwood shores also in there at .08. mostly clear for san francisco to start off with. 49degrees and a few high clouds coming by. i don't think there will be much in the way of any fog. rebounding to right about where they should be. temperatures continue to start to warm up a little bit. and they are remaining below average. and we'll get near 70. and a little bit below. that's because the low cloud deck. the system is gone. and all the way to southern nevada and northern arizona and the high desert of southern california. 40s and 50s. and maybe a 30 could pop up before long. 42 on woodside. and 43 los altos. and 48 at san mateo. and pacifica is 47, northwest, northwest, northwest. there's a breeze in the mix. and also over the weekends. sierra nevada will be mostly cloudy and most of the activity as far as rain or snow has moved off to the east. that's the low as it heads to the four corners and out of our areas. water temps, the ocean temps, san francisco, buoy, 49 degrees. that's the coldest i've seen in a long time. bodega bay is 50. and 50 all the way to santa maria. i have not seen that cold in a long time. and most locations near average. and inland temps will bump up a little bit. it does look like a warmer and windy pattern kicks in for saturday. there'll be 80s and also very windy protesters on a hunger strike. the hunger strikers wasn't police chief greg -- want police chief greg suhr to resign. they want draw attention to the fatal shooting of lopez last year. police say he had a knife and they shot him in self-defense. witnesses say police shot him as he ran away. changes will be coming to a section of pageville road to make it safer for cyclists. the county plans to expand a slow speed zone. the changes will be implemented this fall. the moon just isn't enough. spacex is ready to go to mars. they plan to send a dragon spacecraft to the red planet by 2018. he
