Taking a step to provide help. City officials are proposing to convert if santa clara,nn into housing for the memoless. The mercury news reports the city approved founding f that plan last night. It would only provide shelter for 27 people. In is part of a larger plan to transform multiple motels in will underutilized into transitional housing for the homeless. A year ago, if you remember, a large encantment in the city known as the jungle was dismantled and it left hundreds of transients scattered like in woman who we spoke to at a city council meetling last flight. Were just like regular people. We want to get back in the house. The city is also exploring other interesting options. One would be designating certain parking lots for Homeless People to park their volkswagens. Some live out of their cars and rvs. Theres talk of sanctioning a piece of land used for encantment. Tonight, both sides of a debate over how Police Body Cameras should be used will meet at San Francisco city hall. The biggest point is when Police Officers should be able to see the video recorded on the body cameras. Ktvu fox 2 reporter in our newsroom this morning be arguments from both sides of the issue. The San Francisco Police Commission has already agreed that officers should have body cameras. But the department the department is supposed to start using them sometime next year. What the Police Commission has to decide on tonight are the rules that determine how police use those cameras. The commission is still undecided when an officer could see the video recorded before his or her body cam. Officers should old be able to see it before they write their reports. Others disagree. We decide the credit 8 00 critical issue. In any use of force or Critical Incident whether or not they will be allowed to look at that bridge before writing a report. The San Francisco Police Officers association will be running radio ads saying officers should be allowed to use all Resources Available to write their reports on any incidents. The Bar Association and Public Defenders Office has spoken out against the idea. They express concerns that officerrest will be able to change or amounter their accounts of what happened based on what they see in the video if they see it first. According to police, an aclu website. San jose and oaklands Police Department do not allow officers to view video until after they have made their initial statement and filed a report. During that pursuit, the suspect rammed into three cars including a police car causing officers to shoot. The suspect thin drove to the toy store and hid inside. The police followed the man. All of a sudden i looked over and saw his gun was drawn and afterthat after that, he told us all to go out in the front of store. As you can imagine, the store was fair and impartialed with holiday shoppers. The policer were able to arrest that man who was later taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries. No customers in the store were hurt. There are still no signs of a missing man from contra costa county. The 27yearold drove his new range rover to a food for less and has not been seen since. Homeless advocates keep putting pressure on city leader foss take action. Last night, the city council did approve funding to convert the santa clara inn into transitional housing for the homeless e. Thes the second motel designated to provide shelter for those looking to get off the stretches. We looked at transitional communities like tiny homes, master leasing hotels and motels, converting older buildings into sros. We are looking at all options and leaving everything on the table. The city evicted hundreds of Homeless People. Now they are scattered throughout the city. They have been asking for a legal campground or parking lot to be set up as a temporary solution. San francisco District Attorney has filed felony charges against the socalled hot cop of the castro. Officer chris cores now faces two felony counts of hit and run. A board of Supervisors Committee is meeting to discuss spending more than 200 million to fund a new jail. But the Coalition Wants the money to go to social policemans and preventative measures to keep people out of jail. San franciscos District Attorney says he would prefer seeing the money go toward new Mental Health facilities rather than jail. Big festivals and events. David campos introduced legislation that would set a clear timeline on the application process for both event organizers and the Police Department. Police have the final say on alcohol permits and the number of officers that event organizers need to hire for security. A police union is telling the nfl it should allow off Duty Officers to bring guns to games. The National Fraternal motor of police, the nations biggest and Largest Police union. They argue that off duty Police Officers are the best bet for stopping a terrorist attack inside a stadium.
