sunday, mother's day. welcome to "mornings on 2", it is sunday, may 10th. i'm mike mibach. >> good morning, i'm claudine wong. let's start with a quick look at the weather. rosemary, happy mother's day to you. a lot of people probably have brunch plans, outdoor plans. >> yes. happy mothers day to you claudine and to mike. you may laugh but everybody celebrates mother's day. if you have morning brunch, maybe avoid the coast. some drizzle there. mother nature serving up a near repeat of yesterday, meaning low clouds, a little fog, even that patchy drizzle for the morning hours. as we go into the afternoon these clouds are going to peel away and we'll be left with mostly sunny skies, at least away from the coast so. mostly cloudy for today along the coast. mostly sunny elsewhere. it's very widespread. as i shift into the east bay we'll look at the areas that are seeing sunshine, 80 three livermore, not going to have it. you have gray skies. antioch, brentwood, oakley, a lot like yesterday, discovery bay and bay point with partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies. but the rest of us under a gray sky again, temperatures a lot like yesterday. 53 concord, 49 napa. 49 san francisco. and 53 outside your door in mountainview. a cool 50 at halfmoon bay. the onshore breeze will be back for the afternoon. clouds beginning to pull away by 10:00, 11:00. as we get into the afternoon for the coastline notice mostly cloudy. >> -- the southern half will have mostly cloudy to partly cloudy skies. along the coast, 70s, a few 60s, as we get into the second half of the day. when we come back, more numbers will be on the screen. time 7:02. cal transis continuing to work on the san mateo bridge. you can see headlight in the background but not all traffic is going through to the span, it remains closed to the public. folks who like to use that bridge will have to find alternates butcal trans says resurfacing work is right on schedule which means it should open no later than 5:00 tomorrow morning. there will be protective coverings and electrical work and routine cleanings done. cal trans tweeted these photos of the work in progress. let's talk about alternates. there's the bay bridge toll plaza. drivers who want to use another bridge will take either the bay bridge, done barton or use highway 237, if you're heading out now looks pretty good. not 250 many cars out there at the -- not too many cars out at the toll plaza. just give yourself a little extra time. eight people looking for a place to stay after fire burned two homes in shoassments >> i seen the fire under reporter: to the dubs credit they made a game of it. the comeback fell short but just maybe they can carry over something positive to game four. >> obviously pissed, you want to win. losing two in a row, not going to be happy but at the same time nobody's panicking or throwing in the towel. we'll focus on game four. >> it's the only way to figure it out is to go through the pain of losing a game like tonight and the other night and it starts to build and you feel the mistakes, you see the mistakes on tape. ok. >> it's frustrating but it's fun at the same time. this is a definite challenge for us. you think everybody's going great in the first round, on top of the world, win game one, the second round you get hit in the mouth two times in a row. it's important for to us answer that call. >> reporter: curry called game four a must-win for the warriors. clay thompson stopped short of that but stressed the advantage of regaining home court advantage in the series. tomorrow is pivotal not this group still believes in the golden state warriors. >> i think we're going to pick it up next game. i think we're going to bring it back to oakland with a home court advantage. >> when they come back home i think we will still do well. >> the warrior fans say they may have become a bit spoiled by the team's 67 regular season wins and four-game sweep of the pelicans in the first round. the manager of the tribune tavern says the warriors have generated a lot of buzz and boosting business at bars and res fronts in the area. here's the schedule. from basketball to soccer the u.s. women's world cup team has a match today. >> i'm from here so fran i'm partial to. i'm partial to it and there's a cult rurl around football. >> former star alex morgan won't play because of a knee injury. it's a precautionary move. she says she will be ready next month. allie rasmus with more. >> reporter: by noon today the 18,000 seats here will be packed with soccer fans. it's a little early but you can see there are some people getting the field ready, the goal ready for today's game. the u.s. women's national team will play ireland today in one of three sendoff games, three games in the u.s. before the team heads to the world cup in canada next month. jed is with the san jose earthquakes, this is your stadium. what is the significance of having the u.s. women's team here and of all the cities they could play at why here in san jose? >> it's our first non- earthquakes event. the bay area has a great tradition of soccer and san jose especially, great college programs here we've had great success with national events, nonnational events. it's a great venue. >> the women's world cup is next month. then there's the world cup next year, the men's team has played here -- played in the area before. >> last year the men's team had a game in the bay area. this year they are training. so we've had back-to-back years of the men's/women's national teams here. we have a great venue here for soccer. >> reporter: a soccer town. thank you very much, jed with the san jose earthquakes. we caught up with the women's team earlier in the week as they practiced in the area. and we talked to others that played at the college level. here's kristin, stanford alum that talking about the popularity of women's soccer in our area. >> california soccer is really, really strong. growing up in socal and then playing here i think that just being around so many great talented women who believe they can play professional sports and play on the national team it really gives you a little hand in that. >> reporter: the game starts at 11:30 this afternoon. there are still some tickets available. there are standing room tickets at the end of the field available, then best available seats, quick check on-line, tickets are about $95 but they are expecting a pretty full house later this afternoon and a lot of excitement here. back to you. >> i've watched an earthquakes game there, a great stadium to watch a game. soccer superstar christiana reynaldo is donating almost $10 million to a children's charity to help nepal victims of the earthquake. 8,000 people have died from last month's magnitude 7.8 earthquake. the nepal government has been rillet side for not -- criticized for not sending rescue teams and aid quickly enough. today's the day to appreciate mom but you don't necessarily have to break the bank. san francisco's exploratorium is offering free admission today to celebrate mother's day in addition to its usual thought provoking exhibits. the hands on museum will feature a special arts and crafts section. one activity allows you to make her a bouquet of paper flowers. >> arts wonderful event. families come out, we have all kinds of special activities. for another mild afternoon. these clouds will part for the second part of your day. i'll look at the numbers coming up. a san jose police department audit revealed that officers in san jose detained a greater percentage of blacks and latinos than any other share of the city's population. according to the san jose mercury news blacks and latinos slightly make up more than 1/3 of the city's population but made up nearly 2/3 of traffic stops in 2014. at one stop they were almost twice as likely as white drivers to be frisked and searched. the department says what may appear to be racial profiling is often a reflection of police focusing on high crime areas like san jose which is heavily latino. an independent analysis is being done of the data. prince is going to highway patrol a rally pore -- rally a -- rally for peace in baltimore. it's been a month since freddie gray died in police custody. six officers face charges. yesterday's rally was aimed at encouraging the city's youth to channel their frustrations in productive non-violent ways. >> prince released a song about baltimore and the riots. he'll perform at today's concert. lyrics include "does anybody hear us, pray for michael brown or freddie gray, peace is more than the absence of war." the amgen tour of california, largest professional cycling competition in the united states begins later this morning in sacramento. today's stage one race starts and finishes right there at the capitol building. last-minute preparations are underway now. the tour is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. 144 cyclists signed up for the competition. they come from all over the world including germany, spain and england. it's considered really a warm- up to the tour de france in july. today's race starts at 10:50 this morning. again in sacramento and will pass through solano county into davis and woodland before circling back into sacramento. it's an eight-day competition. tomorrow it will run from nevada city to lodi. on tuesday it will be in san jose. southern california later this week. and ends next sunday at the rose bowl in pasadena. meanwhile the three-stage amgen tour for women concludes in sacramento today with american lauren komansky in the lead and wearing that yellow jersey. time for the front pages. here's "the los angeles times." headline readings "the source of their concern." east and south. in the lunch hour notice still locked in along the shoreline but the rest of us are mostly sunny, similar to how we were saturday. monday afternoon more of the same. we wake up with clouds but by the afternoon we are mostly. temperature will be cooling in the coming days, it has to do with the systems that are riding to the north of us, not bringing rain but bringing us the cooler weather. so temperature begin to fall monday, tuesday, we're now into wednesday and right behind me here off the coastline we have rain. this is dropping south. eventually it's going to move into california. that will be our next chance at actually getting a few scattered showers. it looks like thursday, perhaps into friday maybe even lasting into the weekend it's too far out, it's really hard to tell at this point so we'll track it between now and then. today we're clearing to the coast. wind pick up again. temperatures will be very similar to how we landed in the afternoon yesterday. sunny skies this morning. for our inland communities, nudge the numbers up just a little. mid to upper 70s, near 80 in antioch and brentwood for the afternoon. mid-70 in danville. closer to the water the weekend in view, notice the dropoff as we get into monday and tuesday. wednesday and thursday continuing to fall, widespread 60s in the forecast by wednesday into thursday. and perhaps some after september's surprise announcement that cuba and the u.s. are seeking to restore diplomatic ties. according to castro the pope played a key role in mediating the two sides. this past october the vatican hosted delegations between havana and washington. this september the pope will reportedly visit cuba on his way to visit the united states. just as we get used to the idea of the self-driving cars a new type of automated vehicle is being tested on the road. imagine driving down the freeway and seeing this, an automated semi truck. they are only being tested in nevada, being driven with technology similar to the autopilot function used in an airplane. they use radar to identify what is in front and behind it but like a plane still needs a pilot. these trucks still need a driver. however they are designed to reduce the number of accidents caused by driver fatigue. >> it's how do we autoquo mate the vehicle in a way that makes sense for the driver. how do we reduce his work load. >> the creators of the truck say the vehicles will not be on the road any time soon because it's expected to take years before federal law allows them on most roads. this morning we're celebrating various people and business that's were named the best of the bay. the honor was awarded to them by voters through sf city voter and earlier this week i sat down with sarah and vinny to talk about them being named best radio personality. what about is it vinnie that adds to the show? >> everything about him. he's the weirdest person i know. like, i just never know what is going to come out of that guy's mouth right there. >> in the middle of me interviewing them on air sarah and vinnie decided they wanted to know a little about me including why i got into broadcast news. >> one of the reasons i got into this business was the 1989 quake and being in san francisco and seeing the stories and reporters from all the stations, not just ktvu and do what they did that day. i was san mateo bridge is on schedule. it's scheduled to reopen no later than 5:00 tomorrow morning. crews have been resurfacing the bridge this weekend, because of the closure expect more traffic on the dunbarton an bay bridges today. the warriors must look ahead to tomorrow's pivotal game four. after the loss. down two games to one in the series, curry was 2-10 from beyond the arc. u.s. women's world cup team playing today, taking on ireland but one of america's most popular players, former cal star alex morgan is sidelined with a knee injury, still expected to be on hand to cheer on teammates. in the next hour, a live report from the soccer stadium as we count down to the women's cup set for next month. lots of people going to be outside for mother's day. how's the day shaping up? >> i think if you're going to the game in san jose you've got great weather coming your way. as we get into the afternoon around the bay we have sunshine as well. giving you a live look at san jose, most of us waking up with at least some cloud cover but you can see already beginning to thin out over san jose. where it is not expected to clear out for today. right along the coastline. so unless you like the clouds and the cool weather maybe avoid the shore for today. again into the north bay, south bay and the east bay we saw it yesterday morning, very similar this morning. the onshore breeze not too strong but it's there. for the afternoon it's going to pick up once again. numbers not much different from 24 hours ago. just a degree or two cooler than where we started yesterday morning. for the afternoon we're going to see a near repeat for the afternoon highs, perhaps slightly warmer for inland communities. that is really about it. upper 40s to low 50s outside our doors now. as we get into the lunch hour mid-50s along the coast. a lot of low to mid-60s around the bay and inland and then into the afternoon. cloudy at the coast, upper 50s to low 60s. we'll have widespread 60s around the bay. those 70s will be inland even nearing 80 degrees in some areas like antioch as well as brentwood. 79 expected for you today. 75 concord. 65 berkeley. upper 60s san rafael. 58 pacifica for the second half. as we get into the south bay, 71 san jose. 69 mountainview, 73los gatos. temperatures are going to continue to cool as we get back to work and then eventually the possibility of maybe some rain. more on that in the extended forecast coming up in a bit. starting tomorrow cal train is going to add an extra car to some popular routes. now there will be six cars. that means 150 additional seats and more standing room during peak commute hours. the cars were bought from the los angeles metro link. 12 more cars need upgrades and will go into service soon. we're learning more details about a 27-year-old bay area ban arrested last week on child porn charges. he worked at the walton west outdoor school located near saratoga in unincorporated santa clara county. the santa clara office of education launched an internal education and said he also worked at the second sight in cupertino. deputies say they found child images on his person computer and phone. he started to work there in 2013 and did exract interact with students. a boy drowns in the sacramento river yesterday. fist his family says he disappeared in the water yesterday morning and rescuers searched three hours before finding his body. they say he had no life vest. according to the sacramento fire department the water is not as calm as it looks. >> as our rescue people found out as soon as you get below the water's surface there's a huge current, actually a shelf that drops off here. so it's a very hazardous location to swim. >> rescue crews advise all boaters to keep life jackets on hand and for all jackets to wear them. state and local water officials are looking for ways to make water conservation a coordinated effort at the grassroots level. some suggestions include showing customers how much water they use for different purposes and making it easier for residents to harvest rainwater. 80% of the santa clara water district customers surveyed last month say they support water conservation but more than a third say they are already saving as much as they can and 44% say they can only do a little more. california is not the only place to suffer from a severe drought. state leaders are turning to australians who suffered through a drought from 1997 to 2007. the most common advice from the australians, conserve water as early as possible. the second is to get public support. the australians say their citizens felt they made a difference by treating water as a scarce commodity. that made dealing with the drought part of earns daily life rather than pitting cities against farmers. republican presidential candidate rand paul now has a campaign office in what some may have called an unlikely place. san francisco. the kentucky senator sent the day talking about issues that are important to the workers. he spoke at a tech inbubaitor in the south of -- incubator in the south of market area. paul says it's important to bring his message of smaller government to liberal san francisco even if supporters have different opinions on things including same-sex marriage. >> i think it should probably be left more to the local municipalities and states. >> people who attended said they were interested in the senator's ideas on smaller government including net neutrality and keeping government out of peoples' personal business. the bay area is proving to be popular with presidential candidates from both parties. hillary clinton made two tips here in the last two days. the former secretary of state was at two fundraisers last wednesday in san francisco. into the home of intoal 50 hosted what was an event to prevent human trafficking. super bowl 50. the summit was organized by the bay area anti-trafficking coalition. the coalition says the super bowl draws human traffickers and that leads to the exploitation of children and teens. in the stadium organizations handed out information about helping abused youth. refugee foster care says many victims literally walk here from south america and cannot return home. >> a lot of kids, because of corruption and violence in their country, because their parents are dead, because they have nowhere else to return to. >> the coalition says california is one of the states with the highest level of human trafficking, san francisco, los angeles and san diego are considered some of the most dangerous areas for children. we have a remarkable mother's day tribute from one bay area teen to her mom and dad. a viewer contacted me after hearing the sophomore read the estay for the rotary club of novato sunrise. we wanted to her to share the words with you >> why they do what they do. >> reporter: an essay about life, humiliation and pride. >> first house i ever cleaned with my mom, i was 6 years old. >> reporter: it started as an assignment for english class. >> he said we have to write a essay. >> reporter: a lesson nor 16- year-old tracy diana alfaro started in first grade. >> each student was obligated to draw a picture and present our dream job. i watched as each of my classmates go out in front of the board and presented one by one. when it was my turn i proudly withdrew my drawing. when i grow up i want to clean houses like my mom. i was greeted with laughter. a boy first said that's not a real job, that's just help. it was my first taste of humiliation. it was the first time i ever felt this way towards my parents. >> reporter: she says for years that feeling stayed with her. >> why weren't they the aspiring surgeon or prestigious lawyer? the respect i had once for my parents was starting to dwind 8. every career related question was quickly replaced with a lie. every middle school open house was torture. i had to be seen with them. my mom asked me if she did something wrong. >> reporter: she admits it took time but with time came understanding. >> my parents are not just parents. they are immigrants too. they didn't come to this country for themselves. they came for my brother and i. the job they had to endure is just a sacrifice they are willing to make for us so we can be better than they are. the best we can be. i learned that sometimes we have to give up the most of ourselves for the people we love. i'm not embarrassed anymore. usually you think of a role model you think of a hero. my parents are heroes for me now. >> the humiliation felt by that first grade girl, has been replaced by something else. pride and frattude. >> although i was not able to keep my head high that day in the classroom i am proud to say i can do it today. >> we are going to post her entire essay on ktvu.com. she wants to go to ucla and become a lawyer so she can buy her parents their own home. she also said it was her dream to have her essay published as a tribute to her parents. the oakland zoo is offering something special to moms today. all mothers will fet a free train ride on the outback express adventure train where you can see walruses and emus up close. just visit the adventure land ticket booth at the zoo to get your free ticket from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 this afternoon. it was an afternoon and evening filled with smiles for the little girl known as smiley mylie. a charity hockey game was held for yesterday in vaccaville. as promised she arrived in a pink fire truck. [sirens] >> there were a few bagpipes as well to welcome players from the oakland and southern morinne fire departments. firefighters sent pictures of the event to help her family with medical costs. her father is an oakland firefighter and mylie is fighting a rare type of bone cancer in her arm. no word yet on how much money was raised. more problems discovered on the bay bridge. how a new report happy mother's day. here's a look at the top trending stories. two people in mississippi face murder charges after two misers were shot and -- police officers were shot and killed during a traffic stop this morning. investigators say marvin banks and joany calloway with seen leaving the area with banks. they have each been charged with two counts of capital murder. banks' younger brother curtis faces two counts of accessory. it's still unclear how many shots were fired and who fired them. people who live in the area say they are still shaken. pop, pop, pop. i knew instantly somebody was shot. i heard sirens coming. i knew then it was serious because police don't come for a gunshot. they come for bodies. >> according to the hattiesburg police department the officers who died were 34-year-old benjamin dean and 25-year-old lacory tate. in 2012 benjamin deen was named officer of the year. the mayor of hattiesburg says it's the first time in 30 years in the city an officer was killed in the line of duty. the director of a high school in georgia is apologizing after making an offensive remark during a graduation ceremony. >> where are you, you little coward? look who is leaving, all the black people. >> it happened friday night at tnt academy in stone mountain. the director says she was frustrated with the man who had walked to the front of the auditorium to record the audience on his tablet. >> everybody was just, like, wow -- i can't believe she just said that. there's always something going on beyond the surface. >> the director released an apology for her actions and on behalf of anyone who caused disturbance during the ceremony she says she was in an emotional state from us they'd trade that anyone would -- frustrated that anyone would ruin what the graduates worked so hard for. nepal government is launching an investigation after a blatant overcharging of supplies in the aftermath of the deadly earthquake. officials say they heard of people selling items. news came as u.s. marines brought in more supplies. knee leer -- nearly 8,000 people died and tens of thousands are homeless. meanwhile fresh avalanches in nepal caused worker to call off searches for more bodies. there will be a fundraiser in san francisco for quake victims. sherpas from around the bay area will be there to update people on the situation in nepal. new problems discovered on the bay bridge and has people questioning its seismic safety again. the biggest concern is salt water inintrusion into the bridge's foundation. water leaks near rods that secure the pain cable are troubling engineers. crews say the issues will be fixed but still confident the bridge would survive the next big quake. californians spent $6.4 billion to replace the old eastern span of start. coastal fog once again for the afternoon. we'll be a little warmer inland, temperatures reach into the upper 70s, near 80 and then in the extended forecast the possibility of a few scattered showers coming our way. a little similar to what we just had roll through thursday. it's going to be a few days out but as we get in through your sunday, mostly sunny away from the coast. monday, tuesday, even into wednesday we have systems that ride over the north of us, that will cool us down. first part of the week, dry and cooler. by wednesday afternoon, this system begins to drop, right along the pacific and looks like it wants to move inland over southern california. that is what the podle are showing us right now -- models are showing us right now. wednesday, thursday, friday, even into saturday we sort of get into this unsettled pattern. that will be a possibility of some rain coming our way for the second part of the week. temperatures now 52 degrees in oakland. 49 novato. 52 in sfo. 54 livermore. so the numbers not too bad but with the mostly cloudy skies, a little bit of onshore breeze it will feel cool as you get out for mother's day, breakfast or brunch. 70 expected for novato this afternoon. mid-60s in richmond. low 60s for sausalito, cool day again at the beach. 66 in oakland. mids 70s in danville. antioch 79. into the santa clara valley,ly to mid-70s around the region. along the peninsula 69 redwood city, 67 san mateo. mid-60s in san bruno. and 60 in san francisco. so not a big warm-up for the downtown area. if you're going to be cruising along the embarcadero expect that, upper 50s along the coast. daly city, pacifica and into halfmoon bay. the extended forecast here -- there's the dropoff in the temperature coming as soon as tomorrow. and we're going to slide as we get into wednesday/thursday with 60s in the forecast from the coast around the bay and inland. and perhaps scattered showers coming back by wednesday into thursday. maybe area are preparing for heavy rains and high winds. local officials are warning about the potential of dangerous rip currents. they say they do not expect significant damage from the winds but are worried about beach erosion from the pounding surf. the storm is arriving several weeks before the official start of hurricane season. people who live across the plains states continue to deal with severe weather and those tornado watches. in the past few days several twisters touched down damaging homes and schools, even taking lives. on friday storm chasers in north texas shot this video of a tornado as it touched down. the severe weather caused twisters, flooding and even fires from lightning strikes. this couple says they are lucky to be alive after a tornado destroyed their home. now they are sorting through the wreckage trying to find anything salvagable. >> where do we start? we've been here 20 plus years and we've never -- never even had to replace a roof from a storm. >> that elementary school is also badly damaged by the storms. luckily none of the students were injured but hvac units on the roof did blow over leaving holes where rainwater flooded in. >> when it came in it spread all all over the place. it came in through the ceiling tiles. we may as well have been outside. >> the six states affected by the storms include arkansas, colorado, kansas, nebraska, oklahoma and texas. the number of people killed has yet to be determined as some people are still missing. the oakland as will try to snap a four-game losing streak today. yesterday jesse roughed up a >> you're right. about 2,000 feet deep and when it gets to be that deep it microwaves its way with well -- moves its way well into the east bay, south bay, north bay. nobody can escape. almost nobody. a few areas have sunshine and boy i envy you. a live look across the bay and you can see a lot of may gray. we're going to have nice weather for the afternoon. in fact i can sum it up by saying today will be a lot like yesterday. so as we shift into the east bay, the areas that are waking up with mostly sunny skies, not livermore or pleasanton but as i shift to antioch, oakley, brentwood, discovery bay a near repeat from where we started yesterday morning. i feel like the movie ground hog day. a little breezy out there for some of us. the winds are generally light over across the north bay as well as into the central and south bay but the sea breeze will be back with us for the afternoon as well. we have 40s and 50s in many areas to start. as we get into the second half of the day low 60s in san francisco. mid to upper 60s for the east bay. shifting inland, this is where it gets mostly sunny and mild, even warm. upper 70s to near 80 expected around antioch and brentwood. when i come back we'll take a tour, i'll look at the afternoon highs for your neighborhood and a cooldown expected to start as early as tomorrow. maybe even some rain in the extended forecast. all that coming up in a bit. time now 8:02. happening now -- cal trans says work is on schedule on the san mateo bridge. this is a live look at the span. a couple of cal trans vehicles making their way across the bridge but otherwise very quiet. work a little further from this camera. folks who like the bridge to get backened forth from hayward to san mateo have to find alternates but the bridge is expected to be opened tomorrow, no later than 5:00 a.m. a protective coating will be put on the roy and supporting the deck structure as well as routine maintenance. cal trans tweeted these photos. the san mateo bridge will also be closed on memorial day weekend. there is the bay bridge toll plaza, one of the alternate routes. dunbarton also a way to get around and highway 237 in the south bay if you have to head over the bay bridge, not too many cars now but it is sunday, mother's day, so you need to allow a little extra time. a fire damaged two homes and displaced eight people in san jose. >> the fire under the stairs, under the laundry room. i just got everybody out, told everyone to get out. i said go get the hose -- >> , that fire broke out around 2:00 a.m. on south 2nd street near i-280. flames from one home quickly spread to the attic of a second home and took firefighters about an hour to get the flames out. investigators think the three- alarm fire started accidentally. the red cross is now helping the eight people whose homes were burned. for all of you nervous warrior fans the team says don't hit the panic button. they say they are still confident they can beat the grizzlies and advance to the nba western conference finals. scott riese is in membership fist where the griz up two games to one against the golden state warriors. >> reporter: for 24 minutes it was they are expecting most of the seats in this 18,000 stadium to be pretty packed. the u.s. women's national soccer team is playing the republic of ireland. you can see the flags there at the end of the field. this is one of three sendoff games happening in the u.s. before the u.s. women's soccer team heads to canada for the world cup next month. a lot of the players on this team have bay area connections, ties to the universities? >> that's right. a lot of players played out here. that's one of the things we consider when we think of playing matches. and this amazing new stadium. we always want to play in different venues across the country and we're excited about playing here. >> reporter: i'm sure you've taken into considers how popular the sport is, there's a fan base here for soccer in the bay area. >> definitely. the soccer fan base in this area of the country is fantastic. so we play here as much as we can. and we're happy to be back and what a great day it's going to be here. reynaldo is donating almost $10 million to save the children's charity to help victims of the earthquake. 8,000 people died from the earthquake. a new study revealed the top 10 mom-friendly cities in america and bay area, home to a few of them. the data put together by a group called sperling's best places, factors such as readily available child care and day care, peta trick physicians and -- pediatric physicians were all considered. and cities ranked to which offered the best quality for moms and raising families. san jose, california took the number one spot. fran and oakland also made the list. san francisco. even though san jose came in at number one it outranked the other cities for forgetting mom on mother's day. come on, who forgets mom? it's a day to appreciate mom but you police department audit revealed officers in san jose detained a larger number of blacks and latinos than any other share of the city's population. according to the mercury news blacks and latinos made up 1/3 of the population but made up 2/3 of traffic stops in 2014. almost twice as likely as white drivers tore frisked and searched. the department says what may appear as racial profiling is police focusing on high crime areas such as east san jose which is heavily latino. an independent anies will be done of the data. prince is going to headline a rally for peace today in baltimore but protests continue in that city. >> march for justice! >> reporter: demonstrators yesterday demanded change in the police force. it's been a month since freddie gray died in police custody. six cycling competition in the united states begins later this morning in sacramento. today's stage one race starts and finishes at the capitol building. right now you can see a live picture at the start. folks getting ready, even a local reporter there. the tour is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. 144 cyclists signs up for the competition. they come from all over the world including germany, spain and england. the amgen tour is actually considered a warm-up for the tour de france in july. today's race starts at 10:50 a.m. in sacramento. it's going to pass through solano county into davis and woodland before circling back to sacramento. it's an eight-day competition. tomorrow it will run from nevada city to lodi, then tuesday the race is going to be in san jose. southern california later this week. and ends next sunday at the rose bowl in pasadena. meanwhile the three stage tour for women concludes in sacramento today with american lauren kamansqy in the lead with the the theme here is that it's important to start early. because we can keep them out of the shelters, prevent a lot of behavior problems if we start them early. so little charlie and ez here need to learn that the world is a safe and happy place. they need to learn how to sit and lie down. they need to learn how to be polite. they need to learn how to mind their manners. they need to learn what manners are. and they need to start now. we don't want to wait until ez is 110 pounds to start working on this. so we can make a lot of headway. >> ez has been taking some classes. what can he do in the few classes he's taken? >> ez has learned how to sit and lie down. and a few other things. so jean, if you can show hand signals for sitting down. >> he's busy eating. >> very busy. >> he's still with us. today's pattern, very similar to yesterday, in fact if you joined us yesterday morning this is pretty much what it looked like from the coast. inside the bay, widespread north, east and south, in areas around antioch and oakley, the areas and small communities in between with the sunshine. the onshore breeze at fairfield is 17 miles per hour. concord reporting a southerly wind at 16. oakland 9 so a light breeze for most of us. again with the clouds out there, temperatures still cool, it's going to feel cool as you get out for your mother's day breakfast. if you're going to see the giants play this afternoon. 59 degrees, that onshore breeze is going to pick up for the second half again anywhere from 10 to 20 miles per hour. so expect -- being a little cool getting in and out of at&t park. once you get settled into the stands usually it's not so bad. 50 degrees for the afternoon in san francisco today. 66 in oakland. mid-70s in concord. 71 napa. 69 mountainview. temperatures are going to continue to cool as we get back to work monday. so i'm tracking a cooling trend. and into the extended forecast even the possibility of wet weather coming back our way. i'll show that you in a bit. state and local water officials are looking for ways to painkiller water conservation a -- make water conservation a coordinated effort at the grassroots level. they want to make it easier for residents to harvest rainwater. 80% of the customers last month surveyed say they support water conservation but more than a third say they are saving as much as they can already and only 44% say they can do a little more. california is not the only place that suffered a severe drought. australia suffered one from 1997 to 2007. and the most common advice conserve water as early as possible. second, get public support. the australians say citizens felt they were making a difference by treating water as a scarce commodity. that made dealing with the drought with everyone's daily life rather than pitting cities against farmers. rand paul has a office in san francisco now. the kentucky senator spent the day talking with tech workers about the things that are important to them. he will have his tech operations hub here as well. he says it's important to bring his message of smaller government to liberal san francisco even if supporters have different views on social issues including same-sex marriage. >> social issues don't tend to change at the federal government level. i'm not sure they should be even adjusted kateed at the -- adjudicated at the local government level. >> people who attended said they were interested in his ideas on smaller government including net neutrality and keeping government out of peoples person business. bay area proving popular with presidential candidates from both parties. hillary clinton made two trips in the last few days. she was at a fundraiser friday afternoon hosted by the e-bay ceo. the former secretary of state was also at two fundraisers last wednesday in san francisco. starting tomorrow cal train is adding an extra car to trains on popular routes. they will have six cars, each extra car means 150 additional seats and more standing room for passengers during peak commute hours. they were bought from the los angeles metro link and it's going to add four cars immediately. there are 123 other cars though that need white and blue, you can see it at the flags. they are also getting the field ready. 18,000 seats and they are expecting about all of them to be full for today's game. the u.s. women's national soccer team faces off against the republic of ireland. that's why they got the u.s. and irish flag out there at the end of the field. this is one of three sendoff games before the team goes to the world cup next month in canada. earlier this week we caught up with the team at one of their practices, as you mentioned several team members have bay area connections, having played at the college level at sanford, cal and santa clara universities. here's team defender kelly o'hara talking about her experience and stamford and how it helped prepare her to play on the world stage. >> i went in there as a young naive player and came out more mature and it helped me get to where i am today. >> reporter: check out this tweet from team member abby wambach. her mom and other team mothers were flown here from around the country so they could be with their daughters on game day mother's day today. >> what they did is they had all the players in the mailroom, eat said we had one last thing to talk about before the game tomorrow and said we have special guests here. they opened the doors and the moms came rushing in. >> reporter: the reaction? >> gosh, players were totally surprised. a lot of tears, a legal to walk around the state capitol while wearing only a smile. but the sacramento city council is working to change that. the council is expected to push through a ban on all forms of public nudity in the capitol city. it's illegal right now only to be nude in parks, playgrounds, beaches and nearby waterways. city leaders say there have been several recent arrests and complaints for public nudity but the cases couldn't be prosecuted. when disaster strikes a good idea to be prepared. same with pets. yesterday was national animal disaster preparedness day. a day to remind people to insure their pets are protected in a natural disaster. veterinarians recommend having a pet emergency go kit equipped with all the essentials to make your pet as comfortable as possible. >> two to three days' world of water in your pets's food as well as a carrier, if it's a cat or small dog. safety harness or leash, the pets' medication, and something that is comforting to the pet. like their favorite toy or blanket. >> it's also recommended that you have a backup plan in case nearby shelters are unable to make room for both you and your pet. a teacher in washington who is being called a hero for tackling a gunman at a school received a big thank you from his community. brady olsen lost his wedding band last month when he tackled a student who fired two rounds in a gun. on friday he ingredients in berkeley? >> all of our ingredients are local, organic, seasonal. and some of them even come from our own garden. so today the herbs and the grape leaves come from our garden. >> then fire that burned two homes in san jose. >> the dog ran with me and i told everybody "get out"! >> that fire broke out around 2:00 am on south second street near interstate 280. flames from one house spread to the attic of a second. it took firefighters about an hour to knock out the flames. investigators think the three alarm fire started accidentally. the red cross is helping the eight people whose homes burned. we want to talk about this guy behind me, san mateo bridge. crews are continuing their work this morning. the span as you see remains closed. we did see cal tran vehicles moving down. work is being done further down. people who use that bridge do have to find alternate routes today. the resurfacing work is on schedule meaning the bridge should reopen no later than 5:00 tomorrow morning in time for the morning commute. the project includes applying layer of protective covering as well as electrical work and routine cleaning. cal tran tweeted these photos of the work in progress. you see they're scraping off the roadway there. the san mateo bridge will be close memorial day weekend when the upgrades will be finished. let's talk about alternate routes to get around. drivers can use bay bridge. here is the toll plaza. we have been watching it all morning. traffic is moving fine in both directions. you can use the dub martin bridge. even though it looks good here, if you have driven this on the weekend you know it can pick up on sunday morning. because it is mother's day you want to give yourself more extra time. the u.s. women's world cup soccer team has a match up today. >> i am from here so san francisco impartial to. it is super unique and there is a culture there around football. >> former cal star alex morgan will not play because of a knee injury. it is a precautionary move. the team says she'll be ready for the world cup in canada next month. let's go to alley who is joining us live from inside the stadium with some of the ireland starting at 11:30 this afternoon. this is one of three send off games for the nationals team before they head to canada for world cup next month. we caught up with the teams at one of their practices. several team members have bay area connections having played at the college level. santa clara alumni and team defender julie johnson talked to us. she said that the south bay feels like a second home to her. she said it was a great feeling coming back to prepare for the world cup. >> i think it's maybe aclasia to say a dream come true but it truly is. four years ago i was watching when i was home for summer break from college. so to be here and see what those girls did four years ago in training and to be part of it with this team is pretty remarkable. >> reporter: now, this was a special mother's day treat for the entire team. check out this team from a team member. her mom and all the other team moms were flown out here from around the country to be with their daughters on tomorrow's game better than the last two. >> for 24 minutes, it was daja vu all over again, warriors coming off a poor game two limped out of the gate in game three missing shots, turning the ball over, allowing memphis post players to run rough shot over their interior defense. >> they got two great players down there. they're big. i think if we play the way we did, defending the paint, we are going to win. >> reporter: they made a game of it pulling within four points with three minutes to play. the come back fell short. maybe they can carry over something positive to game four. >> oldcalaway were seen leaving with banks' brother. the younger brother curtis is facing two counts of accessory. it's unclear how many shots were fired or who fired them. people in the area are still within the police force. it has been one month since freddie gray died in police custody. six officers are facing charges. yesterday's rally was aimed at encouraging city youth to channel their peace is more than the absence of war. a police department audit revealed that officers -- blacks and latinos make up slightly more than one-third of the city population but made up nearly two-thirds of traffic stops in 2014. they were almost twice as likely as white drivers to be frisked and searched. department says what may appear to be racial profiling is often reflection of police focusing on you see for yourself how the clouds are beginning to thin. the marine layer, very similar to yesterday morning, allowed it to move into the inner east bay. temperatures are similar to yesterday morning and as we get into your afternoon only slightly warmer for our inland communities. everybody else is going to feel the same. take a look at the numbers. we are in the low to mid 50s for most of us. lunch hour, mid 50s along the coast with cloudy conditions. as we get into the second half the coast under cloudy conditions will remain stuck in the 50s. upper 50s are expected for you and mid 70s for our warmer spots. 79 antioch, 66 oakland. when i come back in the extended forecast, our cooling trend is going to continue and even the opportunity for a few scattered showers. i will show you that coming up. state and local water officials looking for ways to make water conservation a coordinated effort at the grassroots area. some include showing customers how much water they use for different purposes. 80% of the customers surveyed last month say they do support water conservation but more than 1/3 say they are already saving as much as they can and 44% say they can only do a little more. 9:36. let's talk soccer. u.s. women's national team is one of the favorites to win next month's world cup. today the team has an important practice game in south bay. allie is live at avava stadium. it looks like things are picking up. >> reporter: yeah, the sun is culling out. we are two hours from the state of the game. the field looks perfect. there are lots of crew members and people getting everything ready. on the giant screen at avava stadium you see the u.s. women's national soccer team playing ireland today at 11:30. this is one of three send off games. there are just three that they have across the country before the soccer team -- this is your stadium. >> yes. what's the significance of having women's national team play here. >> we have the world cup coming up later this summer and to have the send off series is such a great history of women's soccer, great way to show the product and root on the team to victory. >> a lot of the women on this team have ties to bay area playing at stanford, cal, santa clara. how much did that factor into the decision to have one of the games here? >> it's a big factor. this area has a lot of roots with women's soccer. all these are great reasons for the fan base to support the club. they get to come home and play in the bay area. >> thanks so much. earlier this week we had a chase to catch up with players as they were practicing. let's show you some of that video. we talked to kristine, a stanford alumni and team forward. she talked about importance of being a role model to soccer fans in the bay area and around this. now we are really doing this. >> it's been amazing. we started as growers. my parents planted the vineyard 17 years ago. then it was a slow progression and we decided to make wine. one barrel we have mostly sunny skies coming our way for the afternoon. inland communities are beginning to see the burn off. for the rest of us it will take until about noon time, another slow clearing day as we get into the afternoon. our inland communities will be slightly warmer today. i am talking just by a few degrees. you may not notice so much. in the extended forecast another opportunity of some rain coming our way and it looks like it will be the second part of the week. i will show you futurecast and lay it out and take you into wednesday and show you what i mean. then we'll come back and take a look at the numbers and your current conditions. as we get through morning hours we will have mostly cloudy skies for the day for today. monday and tuesday, not a lot of change. we'll wake up with clouds. we have storms that ride over the north of us that will help cool us down. i think the notable change for monday, tuesday, wednesday will be cooler temperatures for the afternoon. again the rain stays to the north of us. by wednesday there is a system that's expected to drop down along the pacific to ride the coast. it looks like it wants to move inland over southern california. that can change. that is a possibility. unsettled weather coming our way. a few showers in the forecast maybe wednesday night, thursday, maybe lasting into friday and even saturday. we'll be watching that for you. today we have mostly cloudy skies to start the day and then partly cloudy to mostly sunny for the afternoon away from the coast. it's 53 at sfo where we are seeing delays for arriveing flights. we have 50s along the peninsula. it is 53 in danville, upper 50s to low 60s in areas like pittsburgh where we are seeing sunshine. 60s and 70s over parts of the north bay, more into the east bay, 76 for pleasanton, santa clara, low 70s, morgan hill, san jose, sunny veil going to 70. mid 60s san bruno. it is cooler along the coast. the extended forecast is showing the cool down that will be underway into monday, tuesday, wednesday into thursday with low 60s at the coast, mid 60s around the bay, upper 60s for wednesday and thursday. maybe a few scattered showers. we'll have to see how
