this last sunday of april. welcome to "mornings on 2" everyone. it's sunday, april 26th. i'm mike mibach. >> good morning. i'm claudine wong. let's start off on this sunday with a quick look at the weather. rosemary, the rain, when it went away yesterday i thought ok, it might take a little while to warm up but turned out to be a nice day. >> it was. a little breezy for some but we cleared out nicely and temperatures warmed into the 60s, a few low 70s. today we're warmer. we have a mini heat coming for today and back to work monday. right now the sun is shining bright. no fog to speak of out there. a little bit -- a little bit, trying to form along the coastline and that is about it. we will be mostly sunny for today. look at storm tracker 2, the rain has moved out. we're watching just that final bit of moisture over the sierra last night, that moved on in the overnight hours as well. the winds in the hills, a little breezy but you can see here where we reside, generally light, we have fairfield at 9 miles per hour. just a bit of a breeze in your neighborhood but for most of us light breeze, calm conditions, mostly clear, a beautiful start to the day and cooler start to the day with the mostly clear skies as we know. temperatures begin to fall. 43 napa now. 45 santa rosa. 50 san francisco. upper 40s and low 50s around the peninsula. san jose checking in at 48 at this hour. 45 degrees in fairfield. as we get into the afternoon, 60s at the coast. 60s, low 70s around the bay. mid to upper 70s for some of our warmer locations. 77 antioch. fairfield 77 as well for the afternoon. 70 oakland. if you're going to see the as play this afternoon, it will be a beautiful day, 70 san rafael. the winds will come back in the afternoon. anywhere from 10 to 20 miles per hour especially along the coastline here. notice along the coastline not too warm. as we get into tomorrow the fog is going to make its way back but our inland communities will continue to warm up. a look at the extended forecast coming up. a powerful aftershock jolted nepal this morning as the himalayan nation struggles to cope with the aftermath of yesterday's catastrophic 7.8 magnitude earthquake that killed more than 2,000 people. this morning 6.7 after shocks and already traumatized residents running again. rescue teams are working through these aftershocks clearing rubble in search of survivors but landslides are blocking many roadways hindering aid efforts. most areas remain without power and water. yesterday's earthquake also triggered an avalanche on mount everest that swept more than a dozen climbers to their deaths. a google executive was among the people killed in the avalanche. 33-year-old dan fredenberg had been posting pictures on his facebook page documenting the hike to the mounteering base camp. and the time his group spent there. his sister posted on social media he died from a major head injury. google's director of privacy who worked closely with him wrote in a statement -- "sdly we lost one of our own in this tragedy." he was in nepal with three other google employees hiking mount everest. google officials said the other three employees are safe and that the company is working to get updated satellite images to help in the recovery effort. google says it will also donate $1 million to the response. two climbers from sonoma county survived the avalanche. scott holder, a financial adviser f santa rosa and john ritter, a contractor from kenwood. the men weren't caught in the slide which injured at least 61 people. the two told the press democrat that avalanches were happening one after another on the mountain. a washington state mountain climbing group says a member of its everest team was killed in the avalanche. marissa durawong was among eight other climbers there when the avalanche began. she was the team's camp doctor. >> we need to still keep them in our prayers because it's going to be a tough journey to come down. >> an athlete from raleigh, north carolina, is trying to get home after climbing mount everest. for almost two weeks ron wahula who has been climbing the mountain is believed to be at about 14,000 feet. he and his hiking group are now trying to make their way down the mountain. countries around the world are preparing to send help to the affected areas in the himalayas. the u.s. has pledged $12 million to help with the relief effort in nepal. $1 million. a u.s.-based disaster response team also heading there. others to help include israel, britain and china. international organizations like unialso dispatching aid. time now 7:05. expect delays and detours on bart today. the tracks between the coliseum and station will be closed all day for maintenance work. bart will provide bus service between the stations and that could affect baseball fans at the coliseum. fans from the north or west will have direct service north and west but the fremont, you have to transfer at the bay fair station. service to the oakland airport will be unaffected. golden state warriors back home after sweeping the first round of the playoffs with new orleans. they got back to the bay area early this morning and now have the chance to get well deserved rest. >> lots of happy fans celebrated the four-game sweep by the warriors. the team wrapped up the series by the falcons last night in new orleans. curry had a total of 43 points on the night. golden state cruised to the 109- 98 win. the coach says he will spend the next few days trying to keep players ready but relaxed. >> i told the guys to get work in if they want but i'm -- just kidding. i don't know. we'll see. we've got to figure this out. i went through this as a player. quite often. where you have a long extended break, and there's a mix of rest and reps and scrimmaging and you have to keep your conditioning but you also want to get your rest as well. >> the warriors will play the winner of the memphis portland series which the grizzlies lead two games to none. it could start next weekend in oakland. kristin says warriors fans say it's nice to see the rest of the country watch their team in the spotlight. >> reporter: this is a team of winners. >> we trust each other more. >> we had a mission in the first half. we didn't get behind. >> reporter: fans watched the warriors dominate the pelicans in game four after a seemingly miraculous come from behind win in game three. fans now say they are ready for the next round of playoffs. >> that was the important thing because now they move on after a sweep and they have momentum. >> reporter: more than 700 dub nation fans flooded into the theater and seny plex to watch it on the big screen, the really big screen. >> it's 50 feet high def, big sound and 750 seats of people just having a blast. >> reporter: watching at home can't compare? >> no. >> reporter: the theater helps create an arena-like atmosphere with cheering and fans all focused on the team. >> just like you, they work hard. they are doubted but prove people wrong everyday. that's what i like about them. >> people think we're just a shooting team but we have something to show. we didn't get coach us live where some of the preparations are underway in the bay area. what is going on? >> reporter: preparations for two big spectacles that are happening today. as part of opening day on the bay. the first is the boat parade that is going to be on the san francisco side starting from noon to 2:00. you'll be able to watch a parade of more than 100 boats go by. you can see it from the shore from marina green and christie field all the way to pier 39. that is happening at noon, again on the san francisco side. we're in tiberon at the corinthian yacht club. at 10:30 they will have a blessing of the pleasure fleet. similar to a boat parade. mark thompson, tell us what we're going to see here at 10:30? >> we will have in the proverbial joke a priest, a rabbi and minister out on the blessing boat. >> reporter: there's the boat there. let's show it to everyone. that's the blessing boat. the boats are going to be going by. >> hundreds of boats from all over the bay will come and sail past and get their boat blessed for the coming sail season for safe sailing and fair winds and good seas. >> reporter: people take boats all year round. we're lucky to have nice weather in the bay area, why is opening day such a big deal. >> a it's a tradition that going back 100 years. tiberon there were a bunch of boats once called arcs. opening day was literally opening day when the drawbridge would open for the first time in the spring and allow the boats to go out on to the bay and do their thing for the whole summer. and the blessing of the fleet that we do at the corinthian yacht club is a kind of a follow-on from that tradition that has been going on for 52 years where people just celebrate springtime, summertime sailing season is about to begin. let's count or blessing and be estuary. san francisco in the backdrop. a beautiful start. i'm tracking warmer weather for the afternoon. i'll line up the numbers coming up. there's been a boost in security at los angeles international airport over concerns about a potential attack by isis. airport officials say it's in reaction to calls for an attack on uniformed workers in southern california. they say there are no details though of a specific plot. the department of homeland security says several airports around the country have increased safety measures, that includes increased screenings and random searches of passengers and carry-on luggage coming into the united states. kidnapping survivor elizabeth smart is offering up words of encouragement after a utah woman has been missing more than a week. elizabeth salgado last seen april 16th as she left a provo language school. authorities say they are interviewing persons of interest. elizabeth smart, famously found after her 2002 kidnapping spoke at a news conference yesterday. >> hang in there. keep fighting. keep surviving. do what you feel like you have to do to survive because we're looking for you. >> smart says media coverage and public awareness are key tools in bringing salgado home safely. the fbi and border patrol teamed up with local authorities in the search for her. this weekend for the first time santa cruz county sheriffs' deputies are using body cams while on patrol. >> how are you, sir? >> all right. >> cow mind if i ask a couple of quick questions? >> seven deputies are testing a test camera that turns on with the flip of a switch. others could mount on the ear and glasses. they say it's a way to build trust and be transparent with the public. some say an extra set of eyes never hurts. >> it will probably eliminate a great degree of suspicion that happens to float around all the time. >> this comes on the heels of national outrageover police incidents in missouri, new york and south carolina. at a time when they are everywhere, cameras are everywhere, body worn cameras will add to the mix. >> you may have different interpretations as to what the audio or video means, it's not an exact -- there's nothing magical about it, it may provide us with some additional answers. >> the department plans to test at least three different kinds of cameras before making a decision. they will outline formal policies and proceduresiers for using them. in this headlines here, "kathmandu reeling." as someone is pulled from the rubble there. and in "the new york times," it says "major quake ravages nepal." you can see another powerful image in "the new york times" underneath. the picture shows someone buried in rubble and a couple of other folks trying to help out that individual. you can see that person in shock there trying to be rescued from that rubble that is up to the shoulders there. we will continue to follow the latest developments on this story throughout "mornings on 2". in sacramento, the drought continues to be the top story there. the headline reading "water rights under fire." the photo shows a man waiting in a -- wading in a creek that supplies water to 12 customers near his farm and as the drought worsens more people like him have to prove their water rights. here in the weather center, hashtag rosemary finally got a day offer. >> i had a friday night event, jose 48. we have a little wind in the hills but for most of us generally light. here's a snapshot of the satellite and radar view. you can see the state has gone dry. we had 6 to 12 inches reported of snow in the sierra. that is great news. in and around the bay area anywhere from a quarter inch to 3/4 inches reported in the urban areas. even more than that in the hills. that was great news as well. for today, it's going to be a warmer one. ridge of high pressure building in, the winds kicking up just a bit in the afternoon. especially along the coastline. winds will be 10 to 20 miles per hour or so. we even have a semiautomatic semiautomatic but it's in -- a small craft advisory but it's inside the bay south of the bay bridge. shouldn't have a huge impact for opening day on the bay. we're going to jump for today, monday looks to be the warmest day, then we begin a bit of a cooldown. i'll show that you in the extended forecast. partly cloudy skies, 67 this afternoon. at the as the coast it will remain cool. and then a subtle drop of temperatures into tuesday, wednesday, thursday and we look dry. >> and warm. at least four people are missing after a powerful storm capsized several boats off the coast of alabama officials say crews are continuing their search of mobile bay, more than 100 sailboats and as many as 200 people were participating in the dauphin island regetta when the storm moved in. the mayor of dauphin island said at least one person died. strong winds and choppy water led to two separate incidents on tomales bay yesterday. the first incident was with two kayakers who ended up off hog island. and other people became stranded on a sand bar. officials said no one required medical attention in those rescues. your time now 7:21. it's a luxury resort in have a major impact on the local economy. last year national parks generated $574 million in spending to the area, according to a new report. they also helped provide jobs to nearly 5,000 people. the golden gate national recreation area, point reyes national sea shore were among the parks analyzed. research was done by a team of u.s. geological survey economists. baby watch continues in britain with some predicting that prince william and kate middleton will welcome their second childs on wednesday which is the royal couple's fourth wedding anniversary. a software developer is using an app in san francisco. upper 60s to low 70s for our east bay shoreline and the farther in you go the warmer it gets. mid-70s in areas like concord today. upper 70s expected for areas like antioch and continue as we get to work monday. how long will it last? i'll show you that in the extended forecast coming up. new this morning, a person is recovering after getting hit by a train while crossing the tracks in san francisco. it happened just about 12:15 this morning near the bay shore station. circled in red there. the person was transported to san francisco general with minor injuries and is expected to be ok. but the incident did cause some delays on the tracks, cal train had to work with local transit services to provide alternate transportation for its passengers. there was a party, then a huge fire at this walnut creek home. social media could provide critical conditions. officials say hours before the home went up in flames dozens of teens were partying in the vacant house. people who live in the area say it's a popular spot. >> no cops patrol here really. and it's really quiet here. there's houses that are not being used so they come here and party. >> sheriffs' deputies say they were called to the house before the fire and found more than 100 teens leaving the area. investigators are now looking into the possibility that the teens heard about the party on social media. >> vacant house that is in a isolated area that has beautiful views would be attractive to those who are interested in doing things outside of the public view. >> fire crews say the brief rain we had this weekend helped prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring homes. a new development in the case of unsanitary living conditions at a residential hotel in oakland. the city now filed a lawsuit and it doesn't just accuse the area of substandard living condition but accuses management of illegal evictions, public nuisance, even beating up tenants. as fox 2 reporter eric rasmussen reports -- >> reporter: this week it was a leaky pipe in what a tenant suspects was sewage running down the hall but it's just the latest of many problems at the imperian towers in downtown oakland. >> the piping, the electricity, still goes out. >> reporter: somehow city code especially forcement inspectors signed off on most of the violations and told us they were fixed. now a different message from city hall. are you convinced at this point that place is a habitable place to live? >> we are not. those are some of the allegations in the complaint. i understand some have been fixed, others have not been. maybe others are recurring. >> reporter: the city attorney barbara parker is suing the owners alleging unsafe and unsanitary conditions including a broken elevator and long list of other problems going back to 2011 when then owner richard singer went to prison for trying to burn the place down. >> what you discovered concerns me greatly. >> reporter: today the oakland mayor libby schaff sat down with us. we asked about ongoing problems and whether city inspectors are doing enough. >> it concerns me about the soror rassity of the -- voracity of the owner and whether or not something was covered up. what mostly concerns me, our system. >> reporter: she says she wants a more proactive inspection process citywide and supports a demand in this lawsuit to place the towers in receivership taking day to day control of the building away from the current owner. i could tell you some of the tenants are going to be looking at this and say what is taking so long? >> i believe that what we really need to do is be proactive, intervene long before things get to this state. >> reporter: this lawsuit filed by the city also names that former owner richard singer. alleges he still has some control of the hotel but in an e-mail to me singer insisted he does not. as for the tenants, the city hopes the lawsuit forces improvements at the hotel without having to shut it down so no one ends up on the street. eric rasmussen, fox 2 news. >> in you have a tip for 2 investigates, we want to hear from you. california gas prices jumped 20 cents in the last week and they could jump another dime in the next few days. drivers are paying an average of $3.25 a gallon today, the highest price so far this year. a flaring problem at the refineries as well as maintenance issues cut into production which boosts prices. demand has increased. people simply start driving more this this time of year. here's a look at how we're doing locally. check it out. bay area prices are up an average of 4 cents since yesterday. in san francisco regular is selling for $3.54. in san jose $3.41. a penny less in santa rosa. in oakland the average is $3.38. that is 25 cents more than last sunday. new snow in the easiera, too late -- in the sierra, too late? squaw valley is the only resort still open after a very rough year with below average snowfall but the day before closing squaw valley received nearly a foot of fresh powder. visitors were thrilled with the late-season snow but people who live in soda springs say they were happy to have the warm weather. >> we are so over it. it's nice to work with the garden, and then we get this. >> the ongoing drought is costing ski resorts a lot of money. they are relying more on manmade snow to cover the bare slopes. squaw valley says it spent more than $5 million during the last four years to make those fake flakes and visitor attendance has been down during that time. concern is growing among avocado farmers in california as the state drought conditions. california produces 92% of the avocados grown in the united states. typically avocado farmers used about 1 million gallons a water per acre per year. since no farmer can afford to waste a single drop of water many are now using microsprinklers and electronics to test soil moisture and conserve as much as possible. >> detroit endangers everything i do, everything my family has done. my investments, my future. it's a scary thing. no water, no farm. >> most of the farms inventura county get their water from underground wells. if the drought continues for another couple of years the water tables will drop even lower and many of the farms say they will have to shut down. to help with the drought water districts want to pay you to get rid of the water-wasting lawns. just about all the water utilities in the bay area have some sort of lawn conversion rebate program going. allie rasmus looked at what you need to qualify. >> reporter: jessica woodward -- >> we've been slumped. >> reporter: is making house calls like this everyday. >> hi. >> reporter: she's a water conservation technician with east bay mud. she's here to learn about homeowner vicki friedman's plans. >> eliminate basically the surrounding lawn area and instead do drought tolerance plants. >> reporter: she's one of nearly 400 east bay mud customers applying for the water district's lawn rebate program. >> i used to have kids, we used to need a lawn area for them to play on. i don't need it anymore. >> reporter: east bay mud will give homeowners 50 cents for every square foot of lawn they get rid of, up to $2,500. >> we don't want any artificial turf or main -- we don't want them to cement over the landscape. >> reporter: technicians like woodard come to make sure the customer actually has a lawn to convert and then takes measurements and customers have six months to finish their landscaping project. the rebate comes in the form of a credit on future water bills. >> it was depressing to see the grass dry here. what are we going to do? cut that piece out? put in a new patch? you don't have to worry about that now. everything's look great. >> reporter: she and her husband got rid of their 200 square foot lawn last fall and spent $200 on their drought tolerant patio. >> you provide a list of plants you can't use. >> they cut their monthly water use by 15%. >> i'm happy with it. i don't have to mow it. >> reporter: last year east bay mud customers converted about a half million square feet of lawn to drought-tolerant landscape. this year the number is expected to be doubled and help customers say goodbye to more than a million square feet of grass. it's the official start of boating season in the bay area. a century-old plus several degrees above what we were yesterday afternoon. i'll bring you the numbers coming up. police had to break up a crowd of about 150 people last night in oakland. officers say just before 9:30 last night they received a call about a crowd forming on 13th street. police say when they arrived that crowd was moving into traffic and some of the people may have been throwing bottles. at this point police are not sure where the crowd came from but say the event was not a demonstration. police were still on the scene 10:30 trying to disperse the crowd. there was no report of any injuries. here's a look at what is trending this morning. nearly 2,000 protesters marched in baltimore angry over the death of freddy gray, an unarmed man who died in police custody. >> what began was a day of peaceful protests, ended with a handsful of arrests and scattered vandalism. fans at camden yards were briefly asked to stay inside the baseball stadium because of the fighting outside. gray died last sunday from a spinal injury that happened when he was in police custody. his twin sister is calling for peace. >> can y'all please, please stop. freddie gray would not want this. his father and mother doesn't want violence. violence doesn't get justice. >> cell phone video shows him screaming and calling for help as he was dragged into a police van. when gray arrived at the police station he could not breathe or talk. the baltimore police commissioner criticized the officers saying they failed to get gray help in a timely manner. six officers have been suspended with pay. last night was the white house correspondents association dinner and it appears president barack obama put his funny bone to use. >> after the midterm elections my advisors asked me, mr. president, do you have a bucket list? i said well, i have something that rhymes with bucket list. [ laughter ] take executive action on immigration? bucket. [ laughter ] >> the annual dinner took place at the washington hilton, about 2,600 people came out for the event. a comedian even made an appearance as the president's angered translator. >> in our mostly sunny skies from the coast around the bay and inland. temperature as i mentioned a moment ago already beginning to warm up. let's look at some of the numbers. in parts of the north bay, starting in the 40s this morning. look at santa rosa now, 53. 50 napa. mid-40s in fairfield. but the rest of us in the 50s. 54 oakland. 54 at sfo. as we get into the afternoon we do have a warming trend. it will be a mini one. today and into tomorrow, with tomorrow the warmest. let's talk about today. 75 concord. 70 hayward. 64 san francisco this afternoon. 70 san rafael. a beautiful day on the bay if you're going to be out there watching the boats go by. we do again have a warming trepid that will continue at least for the inland communities. trend. i'll show that you in the extended forecast coming up. a powerful aftershock jolted nepal this morning as the himalayan nation struggles to cope with the aftermath of yesterday's catastrophic 7.8 magnitude earthquake that killed more than 2,000 people. this morning 6.7 aftershocks and traumatized residents running again. rescuers are working through aftershocks in search of survivors. many roadways are blocked hindering efforts. most areas are still without power and water. yesterday's earthquake also triggered an avalanche on mount everest. that swept more than a dozen climbers to their death. a google executive was among the people killed in that avalanche. 33-year-old dan fredinburg had been posting pictures on his facebook page documenting the hike to the mounteering base camp and the time his group spent there. his sister posted on social media said he died from a major head injury. a statement "sadly we lost one of our own in this tragedy." google officials said the other employees with him are safe and that the company is working to get updated satellite images to help in the recovery effort. they will also donate $1 million to the response. two climbers from sonoma county survived the avalanche. scott holder, a financial adviser from santa rosa and john ritter, a contractor from kenwood. the men were not caught in the snow slide which injured at least 61 people. the two did tell the press democrat that avalanches were happening one after another on the mountain. a washington state mountain climbing group says a member of its everest team was killed in the big avalanche. she was among eight other climbers at the camp when the avalanche began. she was a physician's assistant and served as the team's camp doctor. >> we need to still keep them in our prayers because it's going to be a tough journey to come down. >> an athlete from raleigh, north carolina, is trying to get home after climbing everest for almost two weeks. ron wahula had been climbing the mountain, is believed to be now at 14,000. he and his group are now trying to make their way down. they are said to be headed to kathmandu. countries around the world are preparing to send help to the affected areas in the himalayas. the united states pledged $1 million to help with the relief effort in knell nepal. a u.s.-based disaster response team is already headed to the region. other countries stepping in to help include israel, britain and china. international aid organizations like unicef are also dispatching aid. expect delays and detours if you're r50euding bart today because the tracks between the coliseum and fruit vail stations are going to be closed all day for maintenance work. bart will provide bus service between the stations and that could affect baseball fans heading to today's game at the coliseum. as fans traveling from the north or west will have direct service between the stations. fans coming from the south on the fremont line will have to transfer at the bay fair station. service to the oakland airport is going to be unaffected. let's talk playoffs because the golden state warriors are back home after sweeping the first round of the playoffs with new orleans. they got back to the bay area this morning and hope they will get well deserved rest. lots of happy fans. golden state cruised to a 109- 98 win. coach steer steve kerr says he will spend the next few days keeping the players ready but relaxed. >> i told the guys to get work in if they want. just kidding. i don't know. we'll see. we've got to figure this out. i went through this as a player. quite often. where you have a long extended break. and there's a mix of rest and reps and scrimmaging. you have to keep your conditioning but you also have -- want to get your rest as well. the warriors will play the winner of the memphis portland series which the grizzlies lead two games to none. the next round for the warriors could start next weekend in oakland. fox 2's kristin says warriors fans say it's nice to have the actually two parades happening today. one in san francisco later on this morning. we're going to tell but it in a minute. first one at 10:30 this morning on the tiburon/sausalito side of the bay. we're at the corinthian yacht club. below is we're at the yacht club. members taking part in a morning religious ceremony. non-denominational religious ceremony. at the podium they have a cantor and rabbi leading the ceremony. what they are going to be doing at 10:30 this morning, the cantor, rabbi and minister whether be heading out to the 90-foot long classic yacht. that is the mv wanda built in 1922. on the boat they will give blessings to all the other boats. it's expected to be dozens of them passing by this morning. the first woman staff commodore of the yacht club talked to us this morning. and explained the significance of opening day on the bay and all the traditions that come with it. >> it's something we're very proud of. it kind of showcases or yacht club, our camaraderie, how we feel about being on the water. that is what it is about. >> reporter: in san francisco they have a separate parade happening at noon. they will have hundreds of fireboats, tugboats, classic water croft and spectators can watch it from the shoreline, from the field to the marina all the way to pier 39. that's at noon on the san francisco side of the bay. in tiburon in sausalito you can watch the blessing of the pleasure craft and parade at 10:30. a lot of activity. we're hoping in an hour from now we should be able to head out on to that yacht where the blessing is going to be the former chair of the california republican party announced he's running for a seat in the senate. tom delbacarro says his campaign will be an uphill battle but is ready to take on the challenge. he says finding new and productive ways to deal with the drought is going to be a big part of his campaign. >> it's an uphill climb for sure but i think my chances of affecting the policy debate are really high. if the democrats don't put forward a plan voters are not going to be happy a year from now as this drought goes on. >> the state attorney general harris announced in january she's running for the same senate seat. other republican candidates include john estrada, rocky chavez and mark hardy. this weekend for the first time santa cruz sheriffs' deputies are using body cameras while on patrol. >> how are you? >> all right. >> you mind if i ask you a couple of quick questions in >> there are seven deputies that are testing a chest- mounted camera that turns on with the flip of a switch. the deputies are also going to test a camera that records continuously and are looking at cameras that mount on the ear and glasses. the sheriff says the cameras are a way to build trust and be transparent with the public. some people say that extra set of eyes never hurts. >> it will probably eliminate a great degree of suspicion that happens to float around all the time. >> this comes on the heels of national outrage over police incidents in new york, missouri and south carolina. officials in santa cruz county says at a time when cameras are everywhere body-worn cameras will add more to the mix. >> there's nothing magical about the cameras. it will hopefully provide us with some additional answers. >> the department is planning on testing at least three different kinds of cameras before making a decision. there's been a boost in security at l.a.x. over concerns about a potential attack by isis. airport officials say it's in reaction for calls on an attack in uniformed workers in workers in southern california. they say there are no details though of a specific plot. the department of homeland security say several airports around the country have more safety measures. we're talking about rain today. sunblock and flip flops. rosemary is bringing us temperatures in the 80s which is crazy. >> yes. kind of nice right? that's what spring is about. sort of feels like winter -- now feels like summer. today back to the summer-like temperatures at least for inland communities. the warm-up is going to continue into monday as well. outside now it's a fabulous start to the day. i was out there a few moments ago. mostly blue sky, everywhere i could tell. we've got a little patchy fog trying to develop off the coastline but you can see from the shot here into san francisco bay, that sun just bouncing off the buildings. we'll be with mostly sunny skies today. it was a chilly start over parts of the north bay but with the sun shining, temperatures already climbing, 50 degrees now in napa. san francisco checking in at 53. oakland low 50s. livermore mid-50s and san jose 53 at this hour. a snapshot here of the satellite and radar view, you can see we have rain to the north. ridge of high pressure beginning to build back in. it's going to push that storm track north. at least for a couple of days. the system brought us some much- needed rain, brought sierra snow. in fact the snow continued all the way into late last night with 6 to 12 inches reported over some of the higher elevations up over the sierra. that is some great news there. we have a warmer day in store. winds pick up a little as we get into the second half of the afternoon. seeing some wind in our hills but for most of us at this time the winds are generally light. as we get into monday that looks to be the warmest day. low 80s expected for our inland communities. i do want to say that the low clouds and fog will begin to move back toward the coastline. i think by tomorrow we're partly cloudy, cool at the coast, our inland communities is where we're going to see that warm-up. as we get into your afternoon today, the winds will again be on the increase. west-to-northeasterly breeze from 10 to 20 miles per hour. you can see half-moon bay along the coastline, even stronger than, that 25 to 30 a possibility there. for most of us anywhere from 10 to 20 miles per hour expected for the second half of the day under mostly sunny skies and mild temperature. 71 novato. heading to sausalito, tiburon, mid-60s with mostly sunny skies. if you're going to be feel that warm-up. temperatures coming up slightly for the coast but i think we'll have a little more cloud cover as we get into monday. and then a slight cooldown into tuesday, holding steady pretty much wednesday and thursday. time now to take a peek at the front pages. in my hand here is the "san jose mercury news." headline reading "kathmandu reeling." an emotional photo. you can see someone pulled from the rubble, on a stretcher. folks trying to get this person some emergency attention. the same photo is actually on the front page of "the new york times." the headline is a little different. this one reads "major quake ravages nepal." that same photo there. below it another dramatic photo, of an individual who appears to be in shock covered in rubble up to the shoulders. other individuals surrounding that person in an effort to try to get that person out of that rubble and to safety. we will continue to follow the latest developments on the story in nepal throughout "mornings on 2". in sacramento the drought continues to be a top story. the headline reading here "water rights under fire," that in "the sacramento bee." this photo showing a man wading in a creek which supplies 12 customers' water. as the drought gets worse more people like him have to prove their water rights. the president takes a break from his normal duties at the white house. >> i mean, really! what is this? >> coming up in 20 minutes -- the star studded event that has the president cracking some pretty funny jokes. we're going to tell you why tesla's twitter account was promising free cars. at least four people are missing after a powerful storm capsized off the coast of alabama. rescuers are continuing their search off mobile bay. as many as 200 people were participating in the dauphin island regatta when the storm moved into the area. the mayor there says at least one person died. stormy winds and choppy water led to separate incidents in tomales bay yesterday. two kayakers ended up off the water in hog island and then two adults and 4-year-old watermain stranded on a sand bar. and officials said no one required medical attention. tesla and the founder suspended their twitter accounts after getting hit by a hacker yesterday. posts were offering free cars and being directed to a phone number and home in illinois. other posts directed users to a site with obscene messages about the carmaker. tesla is not commenting about that cyberattack. new report shows national parks in mori -- marin county have a major impact on the local economy. last year they generated $400 million in spending to the area, that is according to a new report. they helped provide jobs too, to 500,000 people. the goandle gate recreation area, and point reyes national sea shore were among the parks analyzed. research was conducted by a team of u.s. geological survey economists. veterans travel 200 miles. their mission was to raise awareness of ptsd and suicides among u.s. vets. the team was made up of 22 war heroes, the number rents the average number of -- represents the average number of american veterans who kill themselves each day. >> in times of war it's always with a hero's welcome and military parade. organizers say they are hoping to make this journey an annual trip. baby watch continues in britain with some predicting that prince william and kate will or shy say low to mid-50s from san francisco through we mountainview. mid-40s in livermore. south of bay bridge we have a small craft advisory in place today but in this area where we're going to have the boats going by for opening day on the bay, should be absolutely fabulous. for the afternoon today, going to see the as play, a beautiful day, 67. westerly breeze. mostly sunny skies about game time at 1:05. so to get into the second half of the day the sun will continue to shine. i don't see cloud cover. i think by tomorrow we will have a little more pressed up against the coastline but for today sunshine to go around, upper 50s to low 60s along the coast. 60s and 70s just inside the bay. 70s for inland communities. you can see a few pockets of orange here in and around antioch, brentwood. it's going to become a little more widespread especially the closer you are to the central valley. as we get into your monday. how long this warm-up is going to last coming up in the extended forecast in a bit. first there was a party and then a huge fire at a home in walnut creek. now investigators say social media could provide some critical answers. officials say hours before the million dollar home burned to the ground dozens of teens were partying in the vacant house. people in the area say it's quite the popular spot. >> no cops patrol here really. it's really quiet here. there's houses that are not being used so they come here and party. >> sheriffs' deputies say they were called to the house before the fire and found more than 100 teenagers leaving that area. investigators are now looks into the possibility that the teens heard about the party on social media. >> vacant house that is in a isolated area that has beautiful views would be attractive to those interested in doing things outside of the public view. >> fire crews say the brief rain we had this weekend actually helped prevent that fire from spreading to neighboring homes. a new development now in the case of unsanitary living conditions at a residential hotel in oakland. the city has filed a lawsuit and it doesn't just accuse the impeeran towers of substandard living conditions. it accuses management of illegal evictions, creating a public nuisance, even beating up tenants. as eric rasmussen reports. >> reporter: this week it was a leaky pipe in what a tenant suspects was sewage running down the wall but it's just the latest of many problems at the imperian towers in downtown oakland exposed by 2 investigates since january >> the piping, electricity still goes out. >> reporter: city code enforcement inspectors signed off on most of the violations and told us they were fixed. now a different message from city hall are you convinced that place is habitable? >> we are not. those are some of the allegations in our complaint. i understand some have been fixed, others no. >> reporter: the city attorney barbara parker is suing the owners alleging unsafe and unsanitary conditions including a broken elevator and long list of other problems going back to 2011 when then owner richard singer went to prison for trying to burn the place down. >> what you discovered concerns me greatly. >> reporter: today oakland mayor libby schaaf sat down with us. we asked about ongoing problems at the hotel and whether city inspectors are doing enough. >> it concerns me about the veracity of the owner and whether or not something was covered up. it concerns me about the performance of our city employees but it mostly concerns me about our system. >> reporter: schaaf says she wants a more proactive inspection process citywide and supports a demand in this lawsuit to place the towers in receivership taking day-to-day control of the building away from the current owner. >> i could tell you some of the tenants are going to look at this and say what has taken so long. >> i believe that what we really need to do is be proactive. intervene long before things get to this state. >> reporter: this lawsuit filed by the city also names that former owner, richard singer, alleges he still has some control of the hotel but in an e-mail to me singer insisted he does not. as for the tenants the city hopes the lawsuit forces improvements without having to shut it down so no one ends up on the street. >> if you have a tip for 2 investigates we want to hear from you. california gas prices jurpdz 20 cents in the last week and they could jump another dime in the next few days. drivers around the state are paying an average of $3.25 for a gallon of gas. that is the highest price so far this year. a flaring problem at the chevron refinery in richmond, as well as maintenance issues cut into production which boosts prices. demand increased because people typically start driving more this time of year. here's a look at how we're doing locally. it is 8:35. it's the annual opening day on the bay marking the official start to the san francisco 2015 boating season. allie rasmus is live for us in tiburon where preparations are underway. >> reporter: you couldn't ask for more perfect weather for opening day on the bay. it's warm, sunny, no fog. and the breeze is just very slight. we are at the corinthian yacht club in tiburon, on the tiburon/sausalito side of the bay. this is where at 10:30 this morning their big spectacle is called the blessing of the pleasure craft. they just wrapped up a non- denominational religious ceremony here. the 600 plus members are getting ready for breakfast. but starting at 10:30 the priest, rabbi and minister will be on board the yacht that you see out here in raccoon strait. this is a yacht -- classic yacht from 1922, mv wanda. that is where they will be blessing dozens of boats going by. that ceremony is non- denominational. we talked to a yacht club member about the significance of it and the tradition of it. especially the fact that the rabbi, priest and minister, they refer to them as "the god squad" come out here to take part in it. >> these people volunteer their time, go out on the blessing vessel, and they blessed the boats as they come by. and call them by name and take to it heart. some people have been doing this for over 20 years. >> reporter: in san francisco they have a separate parade of boats happening from 12 to -- noon to 2:00 this afternoon. they are going to have hundreds of fire boats, tugboats, classic yachts, also in the bay. that is something you'll be able to see as a spectator from the shore from the field to pier 39. it's free. that parade of boats happening again noon to 2:00 on the san francisco side. here on the tiburon-sausalito side you can see the parade and blessing of the boats starting 10:30 this morning. a lot of events planned for opening day on the bay. back to you. today's the last chance to ski or snowboard at squaw valley this season. the resort is the only one till open after a rough year with below average snowfall. squaw valley did receive nearly a foot of fresh powder yesterday. visitors were thrilled with the late season snow but people who live in soda springs said they were happy to have the recent spell of warm weather. >> we are so over it. it was nice and spring, working in the garden. all the flowers coming up. and then we get this. >> who knows when will be the last time i come out here to see snow? >> ski resorts say the ongoing drought is costing them a lot of money. they relied more on manmade snow to cover the bare ski slopes. squaw valley says it spent $5 million the last four years to make the fake snow and visitor attend tans has been down during that time. concern is growing among avocado farmers in california. as the state drought continues. california produces 92% of avocados grown in the united states. typically avocado farmers used about one million gallons of water per acre feryear. and since no farmer can afford to waste any, many are using microsprinklers and electronics to test soil moisture and conserve as much as possible. >> drought endangers everything i do, everything my family has done. my investments, future, it's scary. no water, no farm. >> most of the farms in ventura county get their water from underground wells. if the drought continues another couple of years the water tables will drop even lower and many of the farms will have to shut down. water districts across the bay area are encouraging customers to get rid of the water wasting lawns and most are offering rebates for customers who are willing to dig up their grass and replace it with drought resistant plants. east bay mud is offering 50 cents for every square foot of lawn removed with some customers getting as much as $2,500. customers say in many ways giving up their lawn is a relief. >> depressing to come and see the grass a little dry here. what are we going to do? cut that piece out? put in a new patch? you don't have to worry about that now. everything looks great. >> that family put in $400 worth of new plants to replace 200 square feet of grass that turned into a $100 rebate and their water bill drops 15%. east bay mad saw customers remove a half million square feet of lawn last year and hopes to double that number this year. more than 1,000 people are expected to take part in today's walk ms in san francisco. the 5k kicks off at 9:00 at justin herman plaza. the course will take participants north along the embarcadero to pier 39. there's another course as well. this year's event raised $247,000 for research. organizers say there are 12,000 people in northern california with multiple sclerosissies. if you want to participate it's free but walkers are still asked to make donations. a service disruption could last all day with bart. but they say it's for a good reason. >> this week the supreme court will hear arguments about same- sex marriage and it could set a precedent for ballot individual states can ban it. ha, you better have a jet pack under there turtle. (huh?) introducing the hair-raising power and performance of the mercedes-amg gt. it's no fairytale. ♪ good day sunshine♪ >> it's going to be a great day to be outside. already a beautiful start, giving you a live look there over the bay. we have wall-to-wall sunshine in store for today. temperatures currently in the 50s. we'll look at the afternoon highs coming up. we're learning more details about the injury that will decide the fate of james holmes, responsible for a movie theater shooting in aurora, colorado. the 19 women and five men who will hear the case were chosen from a pool of 9,000. there's a breakdown of the 12 jurors and 12 alternates. 10 say they have a connection to mental illness in some way. some served in the military, others have association was law enforcement and two have a direct connection to the columbine massacre. nearly 2,000 protesters marched in baltimore angry over the death of freddie gray, an unarmed man fatally injured in police custody. what began was a day of peaceful protests, eventually ended with a handful of arrests and scattered vandalism. fans at camden yards were briefly asked to stay inside the stadium because of the fighting going on outside. gray died last sunday from a spinal injury that happened when he was in police custody. his twin sister is calling for peace. >> can y'all please, freddie gray would not want this. his mother and father doesn't want no violence. violence doesn't get justice. >> cell phone video of the april 12th incident shows gray screaming and calling for help as he was dragged into a police van. when gray arrived at the police station he could not breathe or talk. the baltimore police commissioner, the actual former oakland police chief said they failed to get gray help in a timely manner. six officers have been suspended with pay. police had to break up a crowd of 150 people last night in oakland. officers say before 9:30 last night they got a call about a crowd forming on 13th street. police say when they arrived the crowd moved into traffic and some of the people may have been throwing bottles. at this point police are not sure where that crowd came from but say the event wasn't a demonstration. at 10:30 last night police were still on that scene trying to disperse the crowd. there have been no reports of injuries. on tuesday, the u.s. supreme court is set to hear arguments on the constitutionality of the state's ban on same-sex marriage. this weekend those opposed to same-sex marriage demonstrated in washington, dc. the protesters claim that marriage is a religious contract between a man and woman and that the supreme court should not have the authority to decide who can marry. 36 states including california and the district of columbia allow same-sex marriages, a decision on the case is expected in june. last night was the white house correspondents dinner. and president obama did make a few jokes. >> after the midterm elections my advisors asked me, mr. president, do you have a bucket list? i said well, i have something that rhymes with bucket list. [ laughter ] take executive action on immigration? bucket.
