Sal im dancing as fast as i can. I cant keep up. If you are trying to get to the bay bridge toll plaza, its a joke. Lets take a look at this. This is a look at the macarthur maze, just trying to get to the toll plaza. Its very slow on 80 880 and 580 trying to get to the bridge. We just had a report that someone has taken 45 minutes to drive basically from Jack London Square all the way up to the macarthur maze. And thats just terrible. Weve had other people tweet me saying this is the worst traffic ive seen in a while. A lot of people are upset but this is the way it goes when it rains like had. Its backed up to the macarthur maze. Traffic on the bridge itself is very slow. Lets move along and take a look at 580. It has been very slow as well in livermore, 680 is backed up out of san ramon to fremont and here southbound, 880 at 92, theres a crash there. But traffic has been slow anyway. San mateo and dumbarton bridge. Traffic has been slow as well. Almost everywhere you look is slow. Been standing water all over the place. Please give yourself extra time i just called b. A. R. T. And b. A. R. T. Is actually doing okay in days you want to think about taking b. A. R. T. I just talked to one of the dispatchers. They are doing all right. You might want to use that as an option. Back to the desk. All right. Thank you. Well, the wet weather caused a terrifying surprise for a woman in la fayette. Tara moriarty is live in la fayette now. You talked to a woman in her car when a big tree crashed down on top of her, tara. Reporter were here on saint marys road. The tree fell in the middle of the roadway. Theyve been able to chop it up. One lane of traffic was blocked here. They had to do that while they got in. Got the car out and all of that. But it looks like everything is clear. The 20foot tree initially toppled on the car as the person was driving. She was not hurt. Her side mirror was ripped. She was taken up but otherwise fine. I was driving. I dont see anything in front of me but something on my view. Reporter you are so lucky. Im so lucky. Thank god. Reporter bay area roadways are slick this morning after overnight showers. San francisco we encountered a huge puddle on 101 northbound before the 7th street offramp. There are dozens of accidents on the chp log. A lot of them due to weather. Slow down, we do know that showers are expected tomorrow. Live from la fayette, im Tara Moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. Thank you. This mornings nonstop rain. We are getting tons of it causing dangerous conditions on roads and highways. We have alex savidge out in oakland. What are you seeing . Reporter all morning long the chp has been asking drivers to she down. Take a look. We moved over here to oakland. This is traffic move moving from west grand avenue trying to get onto 880. Were close to the maze. All of these cars are trying to get up to the toll plaza and into San Francisco and they have not move for at least the last 15 minutes weve seen a lot of cars beginning to turn around and go the other way. Obviously be alert like always. Thats the main thing. Be alert and drive slower and watch what you are doing and pay more attention. Reporter let me show you what the conditions liked like earlier on. This is video we looked like earlier on. This is video we took through oakland. The windshield wipers were working extra hard. The visibility was very poor. There was a lot of standing water. The chp has been dealing with quite a few crashes. Dozens of them. A lot of spinouts of people losing control with all of the wet weather. The rain playing a role in a whole bun. Of those crashes. Thats why the chp has been asking people to take it slow and take their time as they head out the door today. Standing water really a key issue in a lot of those crashes. I talked this morning with one chp officer who talked with us to avoid doing if you feel like you are beginning to hydroplane. What you dont want to do apply your brakes or lock them up or anything like that. Just try to kind of roll through it. Keep your tires going. Try to keep traction on the road roadway. Any time you apply the brakes heavily, you can cause the uncontrollable skid to happen. Reporter the best way to avoid hydroplaning, avoid the standing water but avoid going too fast in the wet conditions also. Some of this water can pool in the lanes. That can cause issues. We understand thats whats causing a big backup on the bridge. Were in oakland. All of this traffic is trying to get onto the freeway over towards San Francisco. You can see this tremendous backup this morning all of these folks going nowhere fast in this wet weather. Were live this morning in oakland, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. Thank you. 8 37. State water agencies hope the rain does not make people forget california is still in the grips of a historic drought. They are reminding everyone to conner con to conserve. A normal year we get 50.
