Cold for some, especially near the coast. Mostly sunny, mild to warm and then i think it will be sunny by this afternoon as the higher clouds cleared out. Elevated fire danger will clear out. Northerly winds. Theres the band of high clouds going over us right now. It will clear out. Once it does, then well have a lot of sunshine. Mainly 50s. There a few 40s. But tomorrow temperatures look to be in the 70s for much of the coast because High Pressure is on its way. We have to deal with this cloud band. You can see understand nine days about eight and a half days left. The 60day cooling off period ends next thursday. In a few hours, the two sides in the b. A. R. T. Labor dispute head back to the bargaining table. Were learning about a Major New Development in another local transit dispute. That vote around 10 00 last night. Bad news for a. C. Transit. And really b. A. R. T. Isnt looking much better. Their negotiations resume in less than three hours. We understand that b. A. R. T. Unions did make a counterproposal during a six hour session yesterday. Union leaders are also complaining about b. A. R. T. s top negotiatorser, thomas negotiator, thomas hock about how hes run up a 194,000 tab since talks began. That includes his 350 fee, firstclass plane tickets and a fine dining tag. B. A. R. T. Just hours ago, a san jose house was engulfed in flames. Flames and smoke were shooting through the roof by the time firefighters got there. But everyone inside got out safely. Now, ktvus janine de la vega is live outside the home right now to show us the damage and also tell us what firefighters found inside. Good morning, janine. Reporter good morning, dave. As you can see the home is still standing. Much of the damage occurred in the attic where firefighters found a shrine with lights. Theres damage to that room and all of the prayer items inside were destroyed. Firefighters arrived and found flames coming out of the home near virginia. Four people were inside the home when it started at 3 30 a. M. But were able to escape. The homeowner called 911 after hearing a crackling sound coming from the attic and seeing the fire. Crews were able to knock down the flames within 2020 minutes and save the home 20 minutes and save the home. Fire Officials Say it appears the fire started in the attic where a prayer room was set up with oil lamps. We make metal and put light there and pray over there. Thats a prayer place. Reporter as firefighters were mopping up and examining the home, they discovered there were no working smoke detectors inside. They were concerned because the homeowner decided to stay in the house even though theres into power on. They made sure he wasnt going to light candles and they did also install smoke alarms before leaving. The other three families are also staying here. Happening right now, the house of representatives just came into session a few minutes ago and so far, this morning, it looks like the rhetoric between the two parties is showing no signs of letting up. Now, just this morning, the white house announced that president obama is canceling two stops on his Upcoming Trip to asia because of the Government Shutdown. The president is scheduled to leave saturday night. He will still travel to indonesia and bernai but is canceling visits to malaysia and the philippines. Secretary of state john kerry will go in his place. The budget battle continues in washington, d. C. With no end in sight. Republicans are trying to restore funding to specific parts of the government including national mules, parks, and Veterans Benefits. But democrats block those efforts. Veterans today, parks tomorrow, maybe security agencies tomorrow and the next day. This will go on for weeks. The two houses disagree that we should sit down and discuss those matters. My goodness, they wont even sit down and have a discussion about this. Yesterday, some world war ii veterans had to break in to visit the world war ii memorial in washington, d. C. Which had been barricaded because of the shutdown. Another group is planning to visit this memorial today. Political analysts say it is images like these that may end up embarrassing the politicians into taking action. Theres concern about how a prolonged Government Shutdown could damage the economy. Economists say the 800,000 furloughed workers will cut back on their spending since they are not getting paychecks. They will cut back on shopping, on buyer cars or going out to dinner. Travel industry executives are worried. If government workers cant travel that means canceling flight and hotels. And tourists who cant visit National Parks are postponing their vacation plans. The department of the interior has shut down almost all of the u. S. Geeology department which tracks earthquakes. They will keep some usgs workers on the job. They are considered vital to protect websites and property when there are emergencies like earthquakes. The Menlo Park Office will have three people still working. There are new details in the case of a Redwood City High School student accused of trying to rape a teacher at knifepoint. 21yearold david velasqez testified that the attack was part of a senior prank intended to scare his teacher at the charter high school. Hes currently on trial facing charges, including assault, kidnapping and false imprisonment. He said he waited around the campus wearing a scarf around his face and was shoeless to keep quiet. A man accused of shooting and killing a San Francisco state student is scheduled to return to court. 30yearold nick holme first appeared in superior court last week. Prosecutors say he went out hunting for victims. Hes accused of killing Justin Valdez as he stepped off a muni train. The suspect faces murder charges and possession of firearms charges. 7 10. New this morning an Early Morning house fire west of davis has left about four people without a home. It happened about 5 00 a. M. This morning. Two brothers were in the home when they smelled smoke and then saw flames coming out of an air air conditioning uni airconditioning unit. Firefighters say the fire spread to a bedroom and attic. Construction crews are in the process of knocking down homes in lake county damaged by a landslide. 17 homes were damaged. Half of a nearby duplex also collapsed. The other half reportedly may be saved. Once the damaged homes are taken down the crews are gonna recontour the slope, put in some drams and cover it drains and cover it up with plastic. The work should be finished by october 15th. The fire that began last thursday in solano and yolo counties it will burn for a few more days. 20,000 bales of hay caught fire last week and is still causing air quality problems. The officials have extended a Health Warning because of that bad air out there. Children, Senior Citizens and people with breathing problems, you are advised to stay inside. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. 7 12. Some frightening moments at the Oakland Airport just this morning. What caused the jet to make an Emergency Landing at 4 20 a. M. Also, a San Francisco man found guilty of murder, a celebration led by the judge moments after his conviction and the victims family is outraged. New this morning, just hours ago, a fedex cargo jet made an Emergency Landing at Oakland International airport. The control tower got a call around 4 20 this morning the saying the jet was having hydraulic crews. Crews rushed out on a yellow alert. The plane landed safely 20 minutes later. The San Mateo CountyDistrict Attorney is considering charges against a firefighter who allegedly ran over a teenaged girl after the asiana flight. The coroner determined that she survived the plane crash but was run over and kill by a fire truck. Prosecutors are trying to determine whether that veteran firefighter broke any laws or if it was just an accident. 7 15. We have new information now about an incident overnight at floridas Jacksonville International airport that forced a fivehour evacuation. A federal Law Enforcement source says this morning that a man arrested at the airport said he had a bomb but the threat was a hoax. Earlier police had said two suspicious packages were found at the airport, one in the parking garage. The other in the terminal. One of the devices was located was found near the checkpoint exactly where, i could not say. Incoming planes were delayed on the tarmac until buses could pick up the passengers and no flights were allowed to take off. The Jacksonville Airport is back open this morning. There is a new flag flap in the east bay. A dozen passengers forced the evacuation of the plan raising the chinas raising of the flag in alameda. The flag was supposed to go up by the alameda sister city association. That was to celebrate Chinas National Day which marks the founding of the peoples republic of china. There was a similar controversy in san leandro last month. A protest stopped the City Councils plan to raise the chinese flag in that city. Supporters say this would be a show of sport for the bay areas growing chinese community. But critics say that could be viewed as supporting the human rights violation. 7 17. The family of kevin son announced the weekend Memorial Services for their 16yearold child. He died in a horrifying crash in San Franciscos Lower Pacific Heights neighborhood last week. A speeding driver slammed into his familys van killing the teenager and critically injuring his mother and sister. Now, the wake for kevin is now scheduled for friday afternoon at the funeral home on 17th street in San Francisco. His funeral will be held at the same funeral home at 8 00 saturday morning. There will be a funeral procession in colma for a 9 30 a. M. Ceremony. San francisco worries the city may be selling its soul. The tour featuring mountain bikes will take over this month. The chronicle reports that john avalos reported on his facebook account that the city is bending over backwards for cheap bucks. Northbound 101 traffic all the way up to the peninsula does look good and there are no major problems. There. If you are driving across the san mateo bridge, theres slowing on the hayward approach.
