posing as pg&e workers in a bold home invasion. and this morning, we're learning the same may have targeted -- new information. good morning katie. >> reporter: good morning. police tell me this morning that they believe the three cases are connected. the men who robbed that family yesterday morning may also be connected to some business robberies like the starbucks behind me and another store jamba juice which were both robbed in the last two weeks. the men arrived to the stores around opening time wearing orange day glow vests and hard hats much like this video you see of actual utility workers. the robbers held up the starbucks and the jamba juice on plaza drive. they took cash at each location. then yesterday around 8:30 in the morning, men with a similar description posed as pg&e workers. they tricked a woman who lives on farrel street by claiming they were investigating a gas leak. >> they knocked on the front door, told the resident there they were investigating a gas leak. reluctantly, the female allowed the suspects into the home. they famed working on a wall heater. >> then once inside, the mentied up a woman, a 6 year old girl. the robbers searched the home for 20 minutes and walked off with cash and household items. police gave us a detailed description. one of the robbers is described as a dark complected african american man in early 30s. 6 feet tall weighing around 200 pounds. facial hair is described as unshaven. he wore a white t-shirt and blue jeans. the other man is described as hispanic male 5'9 and weighing around 150 pounds. he too wore a hard hat and vest. neighbors saw the men runaway from the home and drive away in a gold suv similar to a cadillac he is . another representative will be contacting us around 8:00 possibly with an update and comment on this case. police, again, want you to look out for these suspects believed to be connected with all three robberies and if somebody approaches your door, they should give you a badge showing they are an actual utility worker and look out for utility truck which would be parked in front of the home. ktvu, channel 2 news. >> thank you. 7:04. contract talks in the bart labor dispute resume in two hours with a threat of a strike still looming. today's negotiations come one day after a special board of inquiry held a hearing into the labor dispute. the board will present findings to governor brown who then could ask a court to order a 60 day cooling off period. the unions still say they are ready to go on strike monday morning if there is no contract deal by sunday sglt police say they are increasing patrols and working with gang members trying to reduce violence after a one year old boy and his father were killed as ty were sleeping. investigators believe baby drew jackson and his 20-year-old father andrew thomas were targeted at a relative's east oakland home yesterday morning. the gunman shot through a bedroom window from the backyard. so far, no arrests have been made in this case. the violent crime has left 21 children left in oakland since 2011. five of the victims were 8 years old or younger. yesterday's victim little drew jackson was the youngest. at just 16 months old. the san francisco sheriff's department is joining a program designed to give crime victims a greater sense of security and safety. it will allow them to be notified when an offender has been released from jail or moved to another jail. it's a free and anonymous service. let's the crime victims get email and phone notifications. a growing list of sheriff's developing news from texas . four people are dead. four wounded and a man in custody after several shootings last night in the dallas area. police say they found four people shot, two of them dead at a home in southwest dallas. the home reportedly belonged to the accused gunman's ex girlfriend. when the gunman found out the woman was not home, he reportedly drove to a second house where two more people were killed. two children were wounded. >> it is 7:15. new this morning, official s in yemen say they have uncovered terror plots by al-qaida. after the u.s. told americans to leave that country. ktvu is in the washington news room with the alleged plots and how it affects president obama's plans. >> reporter: officials say they've foiled terror plots. al-qaida planned to fire missiles at foreign embassies. attacked naval forces guarding in the red sea and takeover gas and oil facilities in southern yemen. u.s. embassies and consulates in 19 countries are scheduled to remain closed through saturday. the terrorist activity in yemen spells trouble for president obama's goal to shut down the prison because the current plan would send detainees back to home countries. half of the prisoners are from yemen. and law makers don't trust sending them back. also another suspected u.s. drone strike killed 6 people today including two civilians. how president obama defended the president this morning visiting an mosk. information minister denies the rebel's claims they hit the president's motor cade. >> federal budget cuts will not ground the planes at california capitol air show. volunteers gathered yesterday to talk about you improving this year's event. there will be more planes than ever. organizers reportedly worked extra hard getting other planes when they heard about the federal cuts. this year's show is set for october 5th and 6th. the navy says it will not repair a submarine that was set on fire last year. fire shipyard worker in maine. repairs for the uss miami is estimated at $450 million. and the navy says it just can't afford it. after the government's recent mandated budget cuts. 24-year-old casey furry is serving a prison sentence for starting that fire. >> same sex spouses of u.s. troops could start getting healthcare, housing and other benefits by the end of the month according to a memo from defense secretary chuck hagel. up to 10 days leave so they can travel to states where they can marry legally. all this stems from the decision extending benefits to legally married same sex couples. expand access to free wi-fi. flip a giant switch at the plaza to symbolize the access there. the city is aiming for high speed internet access at all its parks. already has free wi-fi at all city libraries. >> back to school time comes with a smart phone warning. smart phone robberies have surged in san francisco. students were often the victims. the principal says usually his students have smart phones stolen cause they are riding on muni or other public transportation. teenagers can easily be distracted. >> there's a lot that catches their attention. sometimes it is challenging to get them to look up. >> be aware. don't fixate yourself on the phone. >> district attorney george casgone says kids young as 6 attacked for their phones. make sure students and teachers are aware of the problem. students in 22 san francisco elementary schools will have expanded outdoor education when they get back to class this fall. non-profit group called education outside is partnering with schools that have gardens to provide instructors and curriculum. the program focuses on using the gardens to provide hands on learning for subjects like science and math. and the goal is to get urban students to spend more time outside. into a center that helps battered women in san bernardino. computers, laptops and others stolen. the thieves had a change of heart. they gave the stolen items back along with a note. >> we had no idea what we were taking. here is your stuff back. we hope that you guys can continue to make a difference in people's lives. >> police say those thieves broke into five offices. came down through the ceiling in a sophisticated heist that lasted a couple minutes. >> 7:24. check in with sal. we had a lot of problems on the bay bridge. finally getting a break? >> yes, they are. glad you asked that. people may be shy using this span. today we're doing better than we were yesterday and the day before especially on monday. horrible day on the bridge. nothing like that today. backed up for the normal 20 to 25 minute delay. no stalled vehicles or crashes reported. moving along and taking a look at the san mateo bridge. there are air delays in san francisco airport expected later today because of low clouds and fog. and this morning 's commute on northbound 101 and 280 still looking good. let's go to steve. >> thank you, sir. lots of low clouds. there's been a lot of low clouds and fog well inland yesterday. very slow to burn off. measurable amounts in san francisco. temperatures today, these are the averages. santa rosa 83. that's what they should be on the high side. so continues to be below average. san francisco is only one degree shy there. 67 forecasted 68 high. the low though is finally moving. it's going to start spinning a lot of cloud cover. get a good look at it right there. some of the thunder shower activity will pick up later. the elevated fire danger due to lightning strikes a possibility. the red flag warning is out. mainly northern california, parts of the sierra. 50s and 60s. kind of a mild pattern. this low has the umph to give us showers or possible thunder showers later today or tomorrow. looks like north. south bay a little better conditions. mainly 70s or low 80s. not much change friday. on the weekend allow warmer temps. >> 7:26. there is a gas leak in the peninsula right now. the major disruption this is causing for two dozen businesses. >> reporter: we're live in milpitas where a catholic church has been vandalized. we received new pictures of the destruction and damage. show those to you and tell you who police arrested. sglt and tracking a fast moving and growing mild fire near palm springs. mornings on 2 continues. throughout the morning we've been monitoring a dangerous situation in southern california. a wildfire is burning out of control in the city of banning in riverside county about 20 miles west of palm springs. couple firefighters have been injured and thousands of people have been forced to evacuate their homes. the call is going out to firefighters across the state including crews in the bay area. brian flores has been tracking the wildfire and local aid. good morning. >> we are just entering the fire season down there in southern california. we have dry conditions. high wind with brush or fuel. and creating a fire down there. we want to go to live pictures now. again, aerials of the fire burning out of control. you can see the flames reaching up there. the latest from cal fire is it has grown to 10,000 acres since the fire began. within the first three hours burned acres. and now again 10,000 acres. the silver fire broke out 2:00 p.m. west of palm springs. the fire forced 15,000 people to evacuate. started south of banning which is west of palm springs i should say. at this point 15 buildings have been destroyed. 3 people have been injured including two firefighters and a resident. that resident after sustaining severe burns was airlifted to a hospital. unclear the extent of the injuries. hundreds of homes continue to be threatened. the fire is at zero percent containment. >> it was so smoky, you couldn't see a whole lot. did see flames. it came down here so fast. so fast. >> again, the fire crews say the fire is headed in two directions. one end is pushing east while the other is heading west. about 1,000 firefighters including 13 helicopters and 6 air tankers are the resources being used. highway 243 remains closed and new evacuations for the communities of cabazon and vista grande and mount edna. hemet high school are serving as evacuation centers. and crews from northern california headed down there. san mateo, santa cruz and monterey fire have sent crews. >> thank you, brian. oakland police are investigating two separate shootings last night. three people were wounded in the gunfire. the latest happened around 11:00. police tell ktvu news, two people were shot. they are both expected to survive. and there was another shooting in oakland two hours earlier shortly before 9:00 last night. investigators say a young man was shot several times. he was then rushed to highland hospital where he's listed in guarded condition. still not clear what led up to the gunfire. police are still looking for suspects in both of those shootings. >> time 7:32. the city of san francisco hopes to get guns off the streets. a gun buy back event takes place tonight between 6 and 8:00 p.m. in the parking lot of u.s. bank. $100 will be paid for guns. $200 for assault rifles. the money is coming from donations as well as city funds. also happening today a controversial gentleman's club is scheduled to open. the gold club is inside an old bank building. been renovated and converted into a night club. neighboring businesses are worried the club will attract crime like prostitution to that area. residential high rise is being built across the street. >> 7:33. a morning mass is now underway at a catholic church. the same church was the target of a heartless crime. just got some new video of the vandalism and joins us now live. >> reporter: good morning. we're here in the parking lot of saint john the baptist church. you can see perish onners here. one of them spotted a naked man sitting here in the parking lot and all the pilons were overturned. and inside the church, it was trashed. here are pictures we just received. it shows one of threostat us of the virgin mary broken by a vand al. they were worth thousands of dollars. outside of the church, there was potted plants and ornament al items broken and turned over. volunteers found the damage about 5:30 yesterday morning and police called and arrested a man they found in the parking lot. 30-year-old michael vickroy. he told police that he was arguing with his girlfriend. it hasn't broken their spirit. >> when you saw the statues broken, it's like a part of you broken. either way, the whole community got together. especially the vietnamese community and came together with a couple that came in replacing with the same statue size and brought it in during our clean up. >> yesterday they bought three new statues of the blessed mother. there are still things missing in the praying room. they also need to replace a lot of the flowers and pots and ornament al items that surround the church. but, again, as you heard from that gentleman, the facility coordinator, even though this was very sad this happened shg these people say that they are going to recover from it and they are working with police investigating this incident. ktvu, channel 2 news. >> thanks. 7:36 this morning. police in sacramento are trying to find the person responsible for a bomb threat targeting a movie theater. investigators say the threat came in a text message that was sent to the theater last night. it forced the evacuation of the century theater in sacramento foothill farms area. one person in the theater heard the sound of a fire alarm, then heard the announcement to get out. >> i was trying to get out from all the stuff happening and people were trying to listen to inter com. i was scared but after we came out seemed like chaos. >> sheriff deputies searched the movie theater for several hours but no bomb was found. >> 7:36. some bar owners in the east bay say they will boycott and stop selling russian vodka to protest russia's antigay laws. protests around the country including one in san francisco. the manager of the white horse bar, one of the oldest gay bars says he's not ordering any more russian vodka and customers have stopped ordering it as well. now calls for u.s. cities with sister city relationships in russia to cut those ties because of russia's new laws discriminating against gays. three california cities including san jose and oakland are on that list. also concerns about american gay athletes competing in the 2014 winter olympics in russia. the new law allows the police to arrest foreigners they suspect of being gay or pro gay. >> it is 7:37. developing news in the peninsula. gas leak shut down two dozen businesses in downtown burlingame. the incident was first reported about two hours ago and does look like quite a few crew members. a fire chief tells us workers at a construction site apparently hit a gas line causing the leak. it's unclear if the damage was caused this morning or sometime last night. officials think the line is four inches wide. they've shut down neighboring businesses as a precaution. >> the gasses are going straight up at this time. so we've closed 20 to 25 businesses and delayed them in opening up. >> the businesses will be closed for the next two to three hours. pg&e must dig three holes in three different areas to reach and repair the line. pg&e has been called in to help find the cause of a fire. flames were first reported shortly after 4:00 a.m. at a house on north idaho street. the fire appears to have started near an electrical box on the home. firefighters were able to quickly put the flames out and no injuries were reported. >> 7:38 this morning. cal trans starts working on the fix for the broken bolts on the bay bridge. start pouring concrete on the steal saddles. those broken bolts led to a delay of the labor day weekend opening of the bay bridge. it's now expected to open in december. >> it is 7:39. check in with sal and see how things are moving. >> yeah. i think you are going to like it. it's improved from the last few days and had bad ones. today it is backed up only for about 15 to 20 minute delay. may be starting somewhere else. i'm looking at my list here. let's go out and take a look at 237. we're starting in the south bay. and see slow traffic here on 237. 101 slow approaching 880. we do get to the toll plaza and as i was saying backed up from the west grand over crossing. it's better today. about a 15 to 20 minute delay. slow traffic in antioch, minor accident near railroad avenue. 680 slow from pleasant hill to walnut creek. heading west, it slows down. and then on the peninsula, highway 1 a little bit slow. the mist and drizzle as we've been saying all morning long, that's a factor today. saying it is more than drizzle. it's rain. i believe it. erin said you know this drizzle is not doing any wonders for my hair. thank you, erin. that is true. the fog is just ridiculous. another report that came in from ocean beach. i believe it. there's a lot of gray there. and this locuming in is enhancing this fog bank. whatever you want. all over the place. the low temperatures are on the mild side. the high temperatures are the cool ones. 74 santa rosa. 75 concord. and 75 san jose . and here's the reason why. you can see the circulation. it's finally moving in. not only is this giving us the low cloud deck, i think it's going to give us pretty good cloud build ups today. coming in the morning and hang around here for two days in northern california. north bay, in line for possible cloud development here and maybe showers and thunder showers. that's why the red flag warning is out for lightning strikes. pretty impressive for august. i know it's kind of gray and gloomy but you know things will turn around. san francisco and the coast is not far away. you know things will change by then. rain up in northeast california. the low looks like it's going to sit for two days and lift up by about saturday. between then and now and then we are in line for not only the low clouds. the low clouds will get chewed up. but 60s and 70s on the temps are very low 80s. starting off mild on the lows. if you get any sun, the humidity is up there as well. today and tomorrow low clouds drizzle or possibility of thunder showers. allow warmer weather and calmer weather sunday/monday. >> >> some do this morning. there's a lot of drizzle. light rain if you want to call it that. and may be a better opportunity to the north. the fog is giving us all sorts of reports of drizzle, light rain, san francisco, sausalito, berkley, partly cloudy skies. here's sal. >> good morning. right now traffic is going to be getting better by the moment here. 8:00 straight up and the traffic is beginning to fade away from the bay bridge toll plaza. less than a five minute wait. 880 northbound heading up to downtown oakland. let's go back to the desk. >> police in vallejo warning about two dangerous men posing as pg&e workers involved in a bold home invasion. these same imposters may have targeted vallejo businesses. katie joining us live and you have new information. >> reporter: these orange bright orange or green safety vests are not hard to come by. we carry them in the news vehicles for covering fires and things on the highway. pretty easy to come by including hard hats. the same outfit worn in all three cases. police believe the suspects are the same two men. police say it wasn't their first case involving utility worker imposters. two business robberies hatched within the last two weeks. the starbucks and jamba juice were both hit around opening time and the men made off with cash. then around 8:30 yesterday morning, the robbers struck again this time at a home posing as pg&e workers. the men tricked a woman saying they were investigating a gas leak at her home. once inside, the robbers bound the woman, a man and a 6 year old girl with duct tape. pistol whipped the male resident. skeptical about anyone who approaches your home. >> unless you are expecting a utility company to come out, i would have them show identification or generally if they are legitimate, a utility truck parked in front of the residents. >> the robbers searched the home for 20 minutes and made off with cash and household items. the female victim called 911 after breaking free. one of the robbers is described as a dark complected african american man in early 30s, 6 feet tall weighing 200 pounds. facial hair is described as unshaven. a white t-shirt and blue jeans in addition to the vest and hard hat. the other man is a hispanic male 5/9 tall, 150 pounds. he too wore a hard hat and vest. neighbors saw the man runaway from the home. police believe that the two men described here are involved in all three robberies and want you to be extra vigilant. when anybody approaches your home, ask them for id. you can call pg&e to see if there will be workers. >> 8:03. friends, family and co-workers of a missing oakland woman say they will keep looking for clues. posted flyers yesterday. disappeared sunday night after telling her daughter she was meeting someone about her dog. the dog disappeared. the sister says they think she met someone in a coffee shop. a registered sex offender is behind bars suspected of kidnapping a woman in a parking lot and sexually assaulting her. 43-year-old kevin harvey is accused of forcing a woman into her car at gunpoint monday afternoon. she says she was sexually assaulted before she was able to escape. police arrested harvey the next day and he was armed at the town center. >> 8:04. we have developing news we're just finding out about a big power outage on treasure island. the lights went out just about an hour ago in the middle of the san francisco bay. no idea how many people have no electricity or what caused the outage. stay tuned. we'll give you an update as soon as we get the information. also following this. live pictures. pg& e crews fixing a hole -- they are digging a hole trying to get to a broken gas line in the area of burlingame. 20 to 25 businesses from opening up as a precaution. a lot of workman out there right now. they are hoping to allow the businesses to reopen in the next couple hours. firefighters think workers at a construction site may have accidentally hit that gas line causing gas to shoot straight up again. working to fix a ruptured gas line. keep you posted on what's happening out there. also happening today, the 49ers playing their first preseason game later today. things are going to be a lot different. claudine wong is there now to tell us about new security measures. fans, you got to be ready for this; right? welcome back. time is now 8:30. developing news in the huge southern california wildfire. bay area fire crews rushing to riverside county helping to fight a wildfire that is burning out of control. as we heard about 20 minutes ago, this fire is 8 miles long. 10,000 acres have burned. containment is zero. federal officials authorized giving california money to help fight those flames. brian flores joining us live. you've been following this all along. and you know more about how the aid is coming in from the bay area as well. >> this is a rather large fire, dave. san mateo county, monterey and santa cruz have all sent teams to help fight this growing fire that is affecting thousands of people in southern california. reports say it was not high winds but steady winds that along with dry conditions and brush is giving fuel to the silver fire. the latest from cal fire this morning is the fire has grown to 10,000 acres charred since the fire began. the fire broke out after 2:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon. the fire forced 15,000 people to evacuate. fire officials say the fire started south of banning. 15 buildings have been destroyed since it's started. 3 people have been injured including two firefighters and a civilian. that civilian sustained severe burns and airlifted to a nearby hospital. unclear of the extent of their injuries. hundreds of homes continue to be threatened. as you mentioned, the fire is at 0% containment despite cooler temperatures last night. >> it's a lot cooler and moisture in the air which is helpful to the firefighters. gives us recovery. however, sun is getting ready to come up. winds are going to increase and back drying out. >> resources increasing as well about 1,000 firefighters including 13 helicopters and 6 air tankers are the resources being used. highway 243 remains closed and new evacuations being issued for cabazon as well as mandatory evacuations. hemet high school and beaumont high school are serving as evacuation centers. there is reduced visibility from the smoke at palm springs international airport. the cause of the fire, still unknown. ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. thank you. time is 8:32. police in milpitas have a suspect and a motive. you are getting new video of the church damage. >> reporter: yeah. we have new video and i did speak with a pastor. he told me it was a street sweeper that spotted a naked man going in and outside going inside the church. and he called police. all these pylons were torn around and inside the church it was trashed. now, here are pictures we received from the facilities coordinator that shows one of threostat us including the virgin mary broken. they were worth thousands of dollars. inside the church there was destruction to candle holders in the altar area. found the damage about 5:30 yesterday morning. police were called and arrested a man they found in the parking lot. they identified him as 30-year-old michael degroy. a transient from milpitas. the pastor says he's grateful officers caught him. >> of course we need to pray for him. i don't think it's a hate crime. he was just disturbed. >> reporter: yesterday bought three new statues of the blessed mother as well as other figures. most visibly the glass covers. also need to replace the flowers and pots and back out here live, i do want to show you there is a saint john's school here. and we were told that there was also a statue here as well as some items outside that were vandalized. they are glad this man was apprehended. they say what happened is not going to break week, very real. come one day after the special board of inquiry held a hearing into the bitter contract talks. the board will report he could ask a court to add a 60 day cooling off period. the 880 it's slow very slow heading north into downtown oakland. it does get better by the curve. after that it gets better to downtown. let's take a look at the toll plaza. a couple bad days and a good day. going away from the airport. the traffic going toward the airport looks okay. southbound 280 traffic a little slow. 8:37. let's go to steve. >> a couple sun breaks here and there. i know up by napa airport there's a couple locations. there's plenty there. and there's a lot -- i lost track of the amount of reports of rain coming in from san francisco. sounds good to me. the report from san francisco i had about 7 say it's raining. a lot of drizzle this morning. possibility of showers. finally moving in. and it's really not going anywhere. i think drizzle is in the forecast for the next couple days. that's pretty good for this time of year. a lot of that cloud cover is taking aim. mendecino county and for lake county. napa could be in line for pretty good cloud build ups later. also enhancing the fog bank. red flag warning for elevated fire danger. northern mountains shasta. sierra, also mendacino county. temperatures inland are really far below average. kind of close but we are in a cool pattern no doubt about it. and temperatures will really not change too much. around saturday, start to rebound and near average to slightly below into sunday and monday. >> time is 8:39. local wine lovers have something to smile about. the napa valley wine grape harvest is happening early. 10 days to two weeks early. the warm spring meant little frost. meaning it helped the vines to grow faster than normal. grape growers think this year's crop may be bigger and better. last year the napa valley harvest was more than $650 million. >> climate change is already having a dramatic impact on california. according to a new report by the california environmental protection agency, annual average temperatures in california have increased 1.5 degrees since 1895. and the sea level at the golden gate rose 8 inches over the last 100 years. at lake tahoe, there are 30 fewer days when the temperature is below freezing compared to 1910. a poll by the public policy institute found 63% of californians believe the affects of global climate change are already being felt. 22% say they believe the impact will be felt in the future and 11% say there will never be any impact. speaking of lake tahoe, a new study shows the clarity of that lake water has improved significantly. a report released by uc davis shows the lake experienced amazing rebound in 2012. scientists say visibility was 75.3 feet and that's a 6.4 foot improvement from the year before. scientists credit drier conditions that washed fewer pollutants into the lake. >> time is 8:41. we've got a new update on an emergency time unemployment claims last week. but that's lower than what economists forecast and still close to the five year low. that's indicative of an improvement to the labor market. wal-mart is agreeing to make safety changes at more than 2800 stores across the country after a federal audit uncovered hazardous conditions for employees who use trash compactors and cleaning chemicals. also pay $190,000 fine. the stores are in the 28 states that follow osha standards. paves the way for other states to negotiate similar agreements. >> time is 8:45. let's bring you up to date on the other top stories right now. the power is back on on treasure island. a bird flew into a power line and knocked out power on the entire island about 7:00 this morning. it was back on about an hour later. we're here on site working to assess the situation. >> about 4:45 this morning broke a pg&e line and that caused a gas leak. about two dozen nearby businesses are shut down as a safety precaution. and police in vallejo warning about two dangerous men posing as pg&e workers involved in a bold home invasion. those same imposters -- you are back now with the latest on what you are finding out. >> these vests are easy to come by. wearing these bright safety vest. one woman says she says they tricked her yesterday. she saw them walking down the street and didn't think anything of it. spoke with another woman whose daughter lives in this neighborhood. she is surprised this happened at all. police say two businesses were targeted in the last two weeks. the starbucks and jamba juice were both hit around opening time. and the men made off with cash. the robbers struck again this time at a home on farrel street. posing as pg&e workers they tricked a woman saying they were investigating a gas leak at her home. >> you would think the person wouldn't open the door unless they knew they had a gas leak. you should be able to smell it. i know you get scared when someone comes to your door saying we're here to check stuff. >> once inside the robbers bound the woman, a man and 6 year old girl. they pistol whipped the male residents. want you to be swept call about nina approaching your home. one of the robbers is described as dark complected african american man. 6 feet tall weighing around 200 pounds. facial hair was unshaven. wore a white t-shirt and blue jeans in addition to the hard hat and vest. the other man is described as a hiss pan i go male 5'9 weighing 150 pounds. he too wore the hard hat and vest. drive away in a gold suv similar to a cadillac escalade. made off with cash and household items. a woman who lives in this neighborhood approached me and said the two men had what looked like a tablet. they really looked like pg&e employees. there are things you should do to prosecute text themselves. ask to see the badge and check for that utility worker vehicle. oftentimes if they are in the neighborhood, you will see that utility truck that will heavily marked. you can also call the utility company to see if there is maintenance in your area. ktvu, channel 2 news. >> we are following developing news out of fremont. police are asking for the public's help in identifying the driver who hit a bikist this morning and then left the scene. officers were called just after 5:40 a.m. to a report of a hit and run crash near fremont boulevard. police say the car was dark colored or black 1995 four door toyota sedan that should have bumper damage from the crash. developing news now, police are investigating what led to a shooting rampage that left four people dead and four more wounded. officers say they found two dead and two injured from gunshot wounds at one home in southwest dallas last night. the alleged gunman was found at a second home about 7 miles away. police have confirmed he used an explosive device there in an attack that killed two more people and injured two children. >> time is 8:49. oakland police busy investigatig two separate shootings. the latest one about 11:00. police tell us two people were shot. both of them are expected to survive. there was another shooting in oakland just two hours earlier happened about 9:00 last night near 102nd and macarthur. a young man was shot several times and rushed to highland hospital. he was listed in guarded condition. still not clear what led up to the shooting. police are shooting for suspects in both of those shootings. ten minutes now before 9:00. the average selling price for a home in santa clara has now hit 7 digits. new numbers from the multiple listing service showed the average single family home sells for more than $1 million. that's up 15% from this time last year. and realtors say sales have slowed only slightly in the last few months. wall street is suing the city of richmond. pam cook joins us to explain how the housing crisis is in this dispute. >> it is pitting cities and homeowners against len door lenders. in the last week contacted the holders of more than 600 loans in the city asking them to sell the mortgages. basically, richmond wants to buy under water mortgages at current market value and let the homeowners refinance and stay in their homes rather than face foreclosure. at a recent press conference, a real estate agent stood up and result in fewer loans and higher rates down the road. >> we're talking about helping a very small group of people based upon the mrp proposal. no it's not. >> yes, it is. >> if i lose my home, he may be the one who helps sell it and get the commission. >> the lawsuit filed this week by three mortgage bond trustees agrees with the argument. it claims the move violates commerce laws and hurt the investors and taxpayers involved in these transactions. now, richmond's mayor argues this plan is better than the alternative which is letting the homes fall into foreclosure. that cost the homeowners, banks and neighborhoods. other cities and counties across the country are looking into similar plans. this fight may be just beginning. >> thank you. 8:52. a new concern for students as they get ready to head back to school. a bad habit a lot of them have that could make them easy crime comes with a smart phone warning for bay area students. robberies have surged in san francisco and students are often the victims. the principal says usually his students have smart phones stolen as fixate yourself totally on the phone. >> district attorney says he has seen children as young as 6 attacked for smart phones. >> students in 22 san francisco elementary schools have expanded outdoor
