We are following develop news out of oakland. A police stand off has ended without the arrest of a homicide suspect. Allie rasmus is out there joining us live with some new information and what the investigators found inside of a home that they think may have been the motive far deadly shooting. Reporter according to the lieutenant out here, investigators found a marijuana grow inside the home that the stand off had been happening around and the lieutenant said that may have been the reason for the deadly shooting that happened nearby here yesterday afternoon. The shooting happened at eth and donte. One man was killed. Another hospitalized and within Minutes Police arrive add a home here. Saturday team members surrounded the home. They believed the suspect was inside. After nearly nine hours though swat team members left the house. The suspect was not in the home but investigators again did find what a lieutenant described as a marijuana grow inside the home. Now police commended the witnesses and residents in this area because many of them reported the shooting immediately after it happened just before 8 00 and investigators say they helped to direct police to this house where they found the marijuana grow. You also had a lot of help from the residents. People here really cared. They are the ones that notified us. They completely cooperated with us. Because of them its the reason we did what we did. Now police are now planning to go into the house and remove the marijuana plants. So the hundredth avenue and donte are closed off. The search for the suspect continues. Begin there were two victims of this shooting that happened around here yesterday. One man died. The other was hospitalized and investigators say they have been able to talk to the man who was shot and hospitalized. However, he hasnt been cooperating. Four people were arrested, 19 others were cited after a second night of protests in oakland. About 100 demonstrators marched along broadway from Frank Ogawa Plaza protesting libby schaafs crack down on nighttime protests. She says she is using existing laws to prevent nighttime protests that have previously become violent. However the protestors call the policy a curfew. Last nights protest for the most part was peaceful. There were no reports of damage. Memorial day is the day to remember the men and women who gave their lives during military service to our country. As we mentioned they were live here at the presidio. The gates just opened. Later on this morning there will be a ceremony to commemorate our heros. Just got to look at it. As we go to the video now todays Memorial Day Ceremony will mark 40 years since the end of the vietnam war. Also 70 years since world war ii ended. This is video from last years ceremony. Some of the events this morning starting at 10 30 include a march with the 151st army band and formal Program Includes rare admiral thomas f. Brown iii. And then there will be a 21 gun salute. And then at 7 00 tonight there will be a memorial day vigil at the crosses off lafayette. This memorial started back in 2006 by an antiwar protestor and the widow of a world war ii veteran. As we mentioned several memorial day ceremonies throughout the bay area. 10 00 a. M. Ceremony is planned and ends with the playing of taps. And in sonoma all veterans will be honored starting at 11 00 this morning. As we take you back out here live this is quite a sight to see. Several of the american flags have been set up here along the presidio for days now. This ceremony starts at 10 30. A daring theft at gas stations happening across the country. What police say thieves are tarting. A sight that is becoming more common along the bay area coast. Firefighters in vallejo trying to figure out what sparked a fire in an abandoned building. The flames started at 9 00 a. M. The third fire in that area in the past eight months. Investigators say its considered suspicious partly because the building doesnt have electricity. Investigators say the homeless were probably using that place as a place to stay warm. Meantime homeless encampment may be to blame for a grass fire that closed a very busy road. The fire near the intersection of east capitol expressway started at 4 30 yesterday afternoon. The road was shut down. It took about two hours to contain it. No one was hurt. The investigation continues. Thieves have been targeting pay at the pump machines at gas stations and they are getting away with a lot of cash. Police are revesting the Surveillance Video in hopes of finding the three people responsible. In the video you can see the man walking up to the pay machine. This is the arko station in tulloch. He uses a drill to open the boxes. This is really frustrating. Its 2015 and this is happening. Its really frustrating. His owner says the thieves made off with 4,000 at one gas station. 3500 at another. The thefts have been happening late at night or early in the morning when very few customers are around. Time is 6 25. A north bay man who almost died during a Jewelry Store robbery in napa is thanking his boss for helping to save his life. His name is bob porter. He says he cant remember anything about what happened april 20th. Two robbers came into that store. One of them knocked porter to the ground and beat him with a heavy pliers. The store owner grabbed a metal ring sizing rod and hit the robber wit. The robbers ran away and porter went into cardiac arrest. So his boss started giving him cpr. I know he would have done the same thing for me. That is the kind of person he is. Once you make that decision, you dont even think about it. Police arrested two teenagers in connection with that attempted robbery and both of them have been charged as adults. Time is 6 26. An East Bay Lake is off limits to swimmers. According to a place lieutenant a dispute over that marijuana may have been the motive for a deadly shooting. Were at the 100th avenue in donte. The street has been closed off since 8 00 last night. The plants were found inside a home on this street. This is as far as we can go. You can see an Oakland Police officer next to a patrol vehicle. Heres an up close look at the house. Police wont tell us how many plants were inside but they were found in the house and in the garage. Police and swat team members surrounded the house last night looking for a homicide suspect. Yesterday just before 8 00 a block away from here on 99th and donte two people were shot. One man died, the other was hospitalized and within minutes thanks to tips from neighbors and Witnesses Police surrounded the home they believe was connected to the shooting suspect. There was nobody in the house but it wasnt totally empty. There was contraband we found. Right now its marijuana grows. Reporter now after surrounding the home for nine hours, swat team members left around 5 00 a. M. Again the search for the suspect continues. We are finding out more about the oakland man that is accused of killing his father. 31yearold Damien Robinson surrendered saturday night after a two hour stand off. Once he was arrested police saithe discovered the bod if des inside. Neighbors are fell the chronicle that robinson does not live at that home. So far police have not released a motive in that shooting. A man found stabbed outside an east bay bart station is in stable condition. Bart Police Responded to the pittsburg bay point station and found the victim. He had been stabbed several times and taken to the hospital. Police have not released any suspects or mode of information. A Court Hearing is set to discussth Mental Health of gypsy hill murder suspect rodney halbower. Hes suspected of killing three young women that were found dead in 1976. Prosecutors say northbound a collected from the crime dna collected from the crime scenes matches that of halbower. Two psychiatrists have been asked to examine him. In cleveland 71 people were arrested during protests after a Police Officer was acquitted in a controversial shooting. Officer Michael Brelo was acquitted for the shooting death of an unarmed couple. Police officers thought the sounds were shots fired and chased after them. 13 officers fired 137 shots at that couples car. Brelo was charged because prosecutors say he continued to shoot after the car stopped even though they no longer posed a threat. They did not deserve to die for fleeing and illuding. That is not a death sentence. A judge ruled the prosecution failed to prove that brelos shots were the only one that killed the couple. The department of justice is reviewing the case. The tragedy over the weekend it happened in the waters off the Sonoma County coast. A sonoma man died yesterday afternoon after scuba diving. Officials say the mans friends were able to bring him back to shore. They tried to perform cpr but after several attempts the man died. So far his name has not yet been released. It happened again. The carcass of another whale washing ashore on bay area beach. The eighth time in five weeks and scientists like everybody else is trying to figure out what is going on. A young 28 gray foot whale washed up on portuguese beach. This happened saturday. Officials say the fact that were seeing so many whale deaths in such a small Geographic Area is causing alarms to go off. Last week an adult female gray whale about 40 feet long it was found decaying and rolling in the surf off halfmoon bay. A stranded gray whale was found in mendocino in recent days as well. Its the tail end of the gray whale migration where the stragglers are make their way back to the arctic waters their health may be diminished by hunger. They have not fed since they left arctic waters last fall so they are working on an empty tank of gas. Now the warming waters that is a big concern because ocean nutrients thrive in the colder temperatures. Many have been pulled away from the whale information right now. They are going to that oil spill in santa barbara. A pedestrian is expected to survive being hit by a party bus . San francisco over the weekend. The accident happened south of market late saturday night. The pedestrian suffered a head injury and taken to San Francisco general. Police say they are still trying to figure out who was at fault. There are increased patrols along the American River in sacramento this morning as police crack down on people who are planning to drink this memorial day. There is an alcohol ban that has been in place for years. And this week park rangers were busy making sure people followed those rules. While some say it makes the river more family friendly, others are determined to sneak the adult drinks to the water. People can get very creative when they hide the alcohol. Weve had them in coolers with false bottoms. Weve had them hidden in backpacks. In different types of containers. We know what to look for. People who are caught with alcohol face a 100 fine. You wont be allowed to same at quarry lakes regional area in fremont because there is dangerous blue algae out there blooming. What is going on . Reporter we are expecting this place to be busy for the holiday and visitors can enjoy the trails to go hiking. They can enjoy the picnic areas to barbecue but take a look at the water here. They can look at it. They can row, they can boat. But as you mentioned visitors cannot go swimming. That is because its full of toxic bluegreen algae that can cause skin rashes, abdominal pain and allergic reactions if you come in contact with it. Its a rare sight but yet a dangerous one. The growth likely caused by the drought. Signs are posted everywhere warning visitors of the temporary closure due to the bad water quality. They spent the weekend scooping up this thick algae from quarry lakes. Its not just harmful to people here. Its also harmful to dogs and can make them sick as well. And as for be fishing we have seen folks coming in earl this morning to fish. Visitors are advised to wash their catch very carefully after gutting them out. The East Bay Park regional district will retest the waters again and were expecting this place wont be open for swimming until wednesday but again if youre heading out here for the memorial day holiday, you can enjoy Everything Else the rest of the park is open. Program begins at 11 00. In benicia there is a ceremony planned at the benicia military cemetery. And in san jose a Memorial Day Ceremony at 10 45 this morning at oak hill memorial park. Has released four people who were detained in connection with a murder of a wealthy family and their housekeeper. 46yearold savas his wife, ten yearold son, and housekeeper were all found dead more than a week ago. Their home was also set on fire after they were held hostage and then killed. 34yearold darren went has been charged in connection with the killings but investigators think more than one person was involved. A strong earthquake rattled japan causing temporary disruptions in its capitol city. The quake was centered in the suburbs of tokyo. It shook buildings and briefly shut down rail lines. They also closed down runways for inspections. No serious damages or major injuries were reported. Its been one month since the first of two devastating earthquakes hit nepal. The two quakes killed more than 8600 people and left thousands of others displaced. Some survivor say they have yet to receive any government aid and will are fears that the monsoon season which is set to begin in weeks could trigger more landslides and disease. The nepalese government estimates it will cost 7 billion for that country to rebuild. 100 years agoen the church opened its doors and yesterday so many people came to celebrate mass that they had to hold those services in the parking lot. The church was built to tend to the Portuguese Community that move into the area in the early 20th century. Over the years as the neighborhood changed, the church it changed too. Deacon Gabriel Hernandez has watched the congregation grow. We have gone through a lot of ups and downs, but the church is still, the community is tight.
