Reform. The schedule may have changed a little bit but one thing hasnt changed is that obamacare is collapsing. Rand paul challenging leadership tweeting just came from the white house and trump open to making the bill better. Its never never been about the timeline for getting the best piece of legislation that helps the most americans. Senate leaders say they hope the Congressional Budget Office will give their bill a new score after theyve made changes. They are looking at hopefully having some sort of vote after the fourth of july recess. So at this point still no timeline. Theyre just saying after the fourth of july but not exactly when they hope to have that vote. At this Point Senate Republicans are looking at using the rest of this week to try and come up with some sort of compromise. They will all leave town and they hope by the time they get back to town here in dc, they will know that they have the needed 50 votes. Thank you. Struck the new healthcare bill is opposed by democrats including south bay congressman and hes on the phone to talk more about this. Thank you for joining us. Will they eventually get the votes to pass it . I dont think they well. Certainly not in this version. 22 Million People would lose their healthcare coverage with this bill. The only people who would gain our people making over 250,000. They use the savings to finance tax cuts in the Capital Gains tax so i dont think theyre happy with this bill. Are there any parts of the bill that you support . Not in its current form. Basically it takes away coverage for people with pre existing conditions and it takes away coverage for young people who were on their parents healthcare. And the savings, it is to finance tax cuts for people making over 250,000. 3. 8 increase in Capital Gains tax. The only people who support that are those who think the investor class needs a tax cut. It does nothing to provide healthcare. The solution is what trump said in his campaign which was more coverage and better benefits. Endorse the singlepayer system. If there was a real effort to have medicare for all, maybe there could be bipartisan consensus around that for speaking of that consensus, when president obama was in office the Affordable Care act was passed exclusively by democrats. Now trump is an office and this healthcare bill is going to be passed exclusively by republicans. Why cant the two sides Work Together and what is it going to take to get the two sides to Work Together . Thats a very fair question. I think thats the frustration people have. I think theres an obvious solution and that is medicare for all. If you look at Donald Trumps own writing he said that the canadian system is superior to ours. He has said the australian system is a strong system. Most people recognize that if we had medicare for all, everyone would benefit. I think you would get a lot of republicans and democrats coming around to supporting that. Its very popular in the polls. I think if we had that plan we can get bipartisan support. Do you think that there is something, anything that works with the Affordable Care act or do you agree that it is failing . I think the Affordable Care act was a positive step forward. It provides coverage to at least 10 or 15 Million People who did not have it. It has saved lives in my own district. One of the mothers told a story about how her onemonthold needed open heart surgery and the bills wouldve been 1 million. She had to pay 30,000 which was still a lot of money but because she was able to get insurance on the Affordable Care market. It is unquestionably saving lives. Its not perfect. One compromise in the area where the Affordable Care act is not providing multiple Insurance Companies because there is only one choice. Over there we could provide a public option and say where there is only one Insurance Company to republicans are leading in those markets and we will provide a public option. That would help with making the system better. Is not the democrats dont want to improve the bill. This bill that the republicans are proposing is a tax cut. Paul ryan has said that. They need to have tax reform. We appreciate you taking the time to talk with us. Thank you. Thank you for having me on extract a rally urging the impeachment of President Trump at oakland city hall. A brief standup between San Francisco police and a man armed with a knife ended peacefully when officers chose not to use deadly force. We are in the newsroom with details on the tactic that they did use that is saving lives. San Francisco Police tell me they had every right to use deadly force because our lives were threatened but the situation gave opportunity to respond with less lethal options. San Francisco Police received several calls about a man yelling at 3 00 in the morning with a knife in his hands near sycamore street. When officers responded the 50 yearold had made his way to the parking lot of the Mission Street station. The subject advanced with a knife at which point the officers attempted to have him drop the knife. They say the way the situation unfolded allowed police time to call in the Crisis Intervention Team and create enough distance between officers and the man who seemed mentally unstable. Verbal commands did not convince him to put the knife down and neither did the beanbag rounds. Instead of resorting to deadly force they tried one more option. Millimeter row from a baton. Is larger and a little more surface area its a slight step up. Basically what it does is allow our officers to create that distance and not come into close proximity of the subject while still being able to use of force option. This tactic is preferred but not new. Its the same weapon used last july to bring a four hour standoff to a peaceful and on market and jones street. In that situation the suspect had a gun and was threatening to take his own life police were applauded by the mayor for their patience back in july. I called the number with a 408 area code and the man who answered said he was shipping fireworks from nevada. We talk to the developers and they tell us the problem is money. Waterfront park is 68 acres of what was part of the Alameda Naval air station. The plan is to build 800 Housing Units with commercial space and a public park. After years of planning, the developer says the project is in financial to bold. He says the problem is mainly due to escalating construction costs. The problem is as these land values decrease, our costs are not decreasing.
