Esplanade drive nature took its course. A giant sinkhole opened up. The owner says water got inside the concrete path. Just washed away. Thats why we had big cavities. This video taken by a passerby shows erosion of the cliffs above the shoreline. That erosion has had consequences. The property next to the beach path was declared unlivable earlier this year. The building is condemned because it sits too close to the crips to the cliffs edge. The apartment buildings next to that one have already been demolished and longtime neighbors further down on esplanade since the problems wont go away. This one could be next. Directly to our side and that will be coming out and this section right here will too. The city issued a statement saying the sinkhole is the responsibility of the owner. The geotechnical experts are examining reports that new bluff erosion, the beach path, pretty owner says he wont make the path safe. What were going to do right now is plug that area. Fill it up with concrete pumping and then do whatever needs to be done after that. Reporter in the Bigger Picture the city has concrete barriers into the bluffs near here. For protection. You can bet the city will be monitoring those all week long. Have they given any estimation on how long the work will take . Reporter actually, yeah. Oakland police are investigating a crash that killed a man in a wheelchair. It happened around 5 30 a. M. On 40th street near the emeryville border. A driver struck the man while he crossed that intersection in his wheelchair. The man died at the scene. At this point its not clear if he was in the crosswalk at the time. The driver did stay at the scene. We are told he is cooperating with police. Authorities have not identified the victim or revealed any possible cause. 40th street between linden street was shut down for several hours. Also, Police Searching for the driver who vanished after a highspeed chase that left his passenger seriously injured. Ktvus alex savidge has more now on the investigation. [ sirens ] reporter this man who suffered critical injuries was transported to the hospital after this violent crash in oakland. The white pontiac he was riding in barreled into two power poles along foothills near 23rd avenue. The outofcontrol car eventually landed on its roof. Police say the driver ran off after the accident leaving his passenger trapped inside the wreckage. I heard people crying. Reporter this man just happened to be driving by right after the crash. And he pulled over to help. When i came around 10 people, they just like around 25th and they did do even the American People they said [ indiscernible ] why dont you try . People reporter Oakland Police are now searching for the hit and run driver who they say left the scene of this accident. Investigators have not released a description of that person. As the car was towed away this morning you could see a case of beer sitting in the front passenger seat. And can littering the streets. And as you can see this high speed crash left behind a huge mess in this area. Two power poles were knocked out and a number of power lines were taken down as well. Senate passed a resolution honoring those 36 victims. They also committed the brave First Responders who worked tirelessly under difficult conditions to try to bring comfort to the families of the victims. In a statement oakland congresswoman barbara lee offered her deepest condolences and prayers for the victims families and their loved ones. She went on to say as we begin the healing process, it is gratifying to know that our city has the support of communities around the country. Atf investigators have completed their work at the fire scene. Officials plan to hold a News Conference tomorrow to discuss their findings. In about an hour oaklands First Responders will hold a vigil for the victims walking from a nearby firehouse to that warehouse location. Last night a fundraiser held at the mezzanine nightclub in San Francisco where desk guests donated at least 20 to get in at the door. There was also a silent auction with proceeds going to the fire relief fund. One staff member says last nights event was personal for him because one of the fire victims worked as a sound engineer at the mezzanine. Made me appreciative to all the support going out into our community. Weve lost a lot of people. This is a very tight knit community. Its been more than a month since the body of 18yearold Kirk Kimberly was found on the campus of sonoma state university. His family and friends have raised nearly 8000 so far on youcaring. Com. The Sonoma County alliance is also offering a separate 2500 reward. Amber lee was last seen alive on october 17. His body was found on november 2nd. San jose police are investigating several deadly accidents over the past few days. From last thursday to yesterday. Five people have died in crashes in the city. Fiery crash killing two people. Near capital expressway early yesterday morning. Police say the vehicle crossed over the Center Divide and lost control and hit a sound wall. Then burst into flames. Two people inside died at the scene. One man says he heard the impact of the crash from blocks away. It was just the big, like a three or 4 00 a. M. That i heard real loud. I literally you know . That crash shut down part of the capital expressway near capital avenue for hours. The names of the people who died have not been released. Sure makes life very convenient but we do have a warning today about Wireless Technology and hackers. And it will be a big hit in the bay area as well. Reporter but he is kind of a hacking superhero. Ill go with it. Reporter known in the industry has an ethical hacker, he helps protect you. He met us at longwood zanzibar coffeehouse to show you a weakness your computer have may have right now. If you are using a wireless keyboard and mouse which is not bluetooth, you are definitely vulnerable. Reporter heres how they do it. Hackers use gear that intercepts the signals sent between your wireless devices like this keyboard or maybe a wireless mouse and your computer. And were not talking about bluetooth. Were talking plain old wireless. Theres no lock and key or code to gain entry. So the hackers use a handheld antenna that looks Something Like this to grab those signals going between the wireless and your computer. Your precious data. And once they grab them, they are in. I can sit in a parking lot and scan the entire building. And just kill each and every computer in a few seconds. Reporter hackers only need to find one vulnerable device to do it. And then he set up a wireless keyboard made by a major manufacturer. And his hacking gear to show us just how easy it is. So we have a desktop computer set up here. This is whats called airgap. That means it has no connection to the internet whatsoever. And as soon as i start typing on here, watch how quickly he is able to take control of the computer. I picked that up already. Reporter prosecutors had pushed for a decade behind bars for carlos villalobos. But the judge citing a guilty plea to all of the charges and a lack of a criminal history imposed a midrange sentence of six years. In december 2015, villalobos was drunk with a bloodalcohol level of. 20 while driving his ford suv on east capitol expressway when he ran into two motorists speeding away both times at up to 70 miles per hour. He hit two part crocs before crashing into the driver side of a beetle. Carlos torres a married father with a 5yearold daughter was killed instantly. In court today villalobos told the judge he is sorry for his actions but in her victims impact statement, the victims widow told the court quote, he doesnt know the pain of not being able to take say goodbye. I didnt get a last kiss and he didnt get to because his daughter. This has been very hard on them. Obviously he has a young daughter only five years old. Its been very difficult for her and very difficult for his widow. They are very strong people. Very strong family. Theyve done excellent in how theyve handled the process. But its been tough. Reporter in addition to his sixyear sentence, villalobos will have three years of probation after his release and he wont be allowed to own a firearm for the rest of his life. Theres a restitution hearing scheduled for next month to see how much money he must pay the victims family for costs associated with this crime. In san jose, jesse gary, ktvu fox 2 news. Officials continue to investigate an officer involved shooting in the Sonoma County town of windsor. That happened in a Shopping Center about 5 30 p. M. Last night. His department received a report of a driver trying to hit a person walking on the old redwood highway there. Two officers responded. Matching the discussion provided in the call. They tried to pull over the car but the driver sped off. Officers chased the car for several miles and the chase ended at a Shopping Center. The pursuit ended. Hour deputies were involved in an officer involved shooting. Suspect was shot at least one time. There are reports the man was shot in the shoulder and officials plan to book him into jail after hes treated for the injury. Petaluma Police Received a call earlier in the day saying 49 yearold Christopher Eastwood was driving a gold jet armed with a gun and wanted to be killed by law enforcement. The pedestrian was not hurt. It is a tragedy that should never be forgotten. Thats what one person said while marking six months since the math shooting at the pulse nightclub in orlando. 49 people were killed and more than 50 others were injured.
