"a check of f is size can allow us to do that critic work to serve our veterans for years to come," said sarah petersen, founder of support siouxland soldiers. the founder says they hope to bring a group together to really look at how this money can be spent. just a few blocks away from the orpheum, hillary clinton was campaigning to win the democratic nomination this was clinton's fourth stop in sioux city since announcing her candidacy. and she made one messasa clee...she wants iowa's vote. there were about 460 people who packed into the convention like her last stop in sioux city, clinton put much of her focus on the economy...starting with jobs. "we need more infrastructure jobs," "our roads, our bridges, our tunnels, our ports, our airports, our rail system, there is work to be done in iowa and america. and these are jobs that can't be exported." clinton also talked about debt free tuition for public colleges and universities. she said that doesn't include free college for everyone. "i want to give the resources we have from the federal government to help people who need d lp go to college," said clintonon"that's the vast majority of kids." when talking about those who need help going to college, clinton made the argument that she does not want to pay for donald trump's youngest child to go to school...those funds should go to those who actually need it. the third day for the university of okoboji winter games drew in a large crowd. hundreds of spectators enjoyed the mild winter temperatures and winter fun for this year's event. saturday's entertainment mega snow pong and grilling on the ice. a first-time winter games-goer says the events offer a variety of activities for her family. "the polar plunge is something we are looking forward. i think our daughter would have a fun time watching that. it's a good day to be outside. it's perfect weather. it's nice to do something outside in the winter," said melilia schumann, okoboji winter games attendee. there was plenty of fun and food indoors as well. the okoboji summer theatre association held its annual omelet brunch to celebrate the upcoming season. the event raises scholarship money for student-performers from stephens college in colombia, missouri. the dean of stephens college says the loyalty of the okoboji community is incredible. "we've been honored as a community a lot of times, but this would have to be one of the top deals," said bob scott, mayor. scott has served the city for 20-years, and he says this honor is one sioux city won't forget. "this is the first naval ship to bear sioux city's name," said sen. tammy baldwin, (d) wisconsin. "that's exciting. it's an exciting first to celebrate." "the work to get the uss sioux city to this point has taken two years starting with the keel laying here at marinette marine in february of 2014," said matt breen, reporting. saturday, another milestone. the christening... a ceremonial breaking of a champagne bottle on the ship's bow. "the champagne bottle gets broken, but this day is about the bonding... the bonding between the sponsor of the ship and the crew," howard said. "for the united states of america, i christen thee sioux city," said "may god bless this ship and all who sail on her." mary winnefeld is the ship's sponsor, and now considered an honorary crew member. it was up to her to send the sioux city on its way... with one swing. nats of launch now in the water, work will begin to finish the ship, which is about 80-percent complete. the sioux city's executive officer, ken lieberman, says the crew can't wait to get aboard. "go back and look over my life and see what things i've had to overcome," said dr. ben carson. "look at my medical career, look at all the controversies that occurred there [and] the fights that i had to have with the establishment to get things done. but, look at the lives that have been saved by it." spencer iowa later today. chris christie also made a stop in siouxland over the weekend. the new jersy governor stopped at morningside college early yesterday morning. the governor addressed his plans to fight immigration, isis and homeland security. in christie's words, he would be suprised if donald trump wins the iowa caucuses. he says it's time to bring the country together and the caucus is the first step to do so. "you're going to matter tomorrow night in a big way to thise whole country. the whole country is watching you tomorrow night. the tone you set and the people you pick are going to help determine the c ourse of this country. but the show is over now, it's time to get to work," said gov. chris christie, presidential candidate. christie's campaign continues through today. he will be in the des moines metro area before heading to new hampshire on tuesday. today is the day iowans cast the first votes of the on saturday, both senator marco ktiv's tommie clark spoke with both candidates and has more. a "bold statement" and says he is the only fiscal conservative in the race. paul says he thinks he'll do a lot better than what people may expect. he says his number one priority is to defend the country and the biggest threat to national security is debt, and he believes he's the sole one candidate able to do something about it. the senator called out two of his fellow g-o-p candidates, including rubio. "i also believe that you cannot be stronger as a nation if you're further in debt so rubio, cruz wanting to spend a trillion dollars more to make the sand glow over there...i think they'll create more terrorists then kill with that policy," said presidential candidate, sen. rand paul. both presidential candidates will continue to campaign in the coming days. tomorrow, rubio will spend the final day before monday's caucuses rallying with supporters in cedar falls, cedar rapids, and davenport. meanwhile, paul will hit dubuque and iowa city. tommie morningside college got a unique display from the state historical museum. the "first in the nation" display explores the history of iowa caucuses from the early 70's to 20-12. the traveling display traces candidates' journeys from early visits to the state, to declaring a presidential bid, to caucus day and onward to the primaries. it also makes the case for why iowa is uniquely positioned to hold the first in the nation caucus. it will be on display on campus untill february 13th. it's time for the siouxland humane society's popular sweet fundraiser! the annual caramel apple fundraiser includes nearly 400 volunteers making more than 13- thousand caramel apples. the humane society's development director says this is their largest fundraiser. the proceeds from the apple sales will help the nearly 3,000 homeless and abused animals in siouxland. "all of our funding and how we stay open and help the animals are missie fisher, director of development at the siouxland humane society. the apples are 15-dollars each and can be ordered through sunday. they will be ready for pick up february 9th and 10th at the siouxland humane society and southern hills mall. the community celebrated a special birthday yesterday. "happy birthday to you) nat pop brookdale senior living solutions had a full room of people celebrating gabrielle perry's 105th birthday. she had a few secret to a happy and healthy life. "see everybody asks me that," said 105- year-old gabrielle perry. "a check of this size can allow us to do that critic work to serve our veterans for years to come," said sarah petersen, founder of support siouxland soldiers. the founder says they hope to look at how this money can be spent. just a few blocks away from the orpheum, hillary clinton was campaigning to win the democratic nomination. this was clinton's fourth stop in sioux city since announcing her candidacy. and she made one message clear... she wants iowa's vote. there were about 460 people who packed into the convention center lobby. like her last stop in sioux city, clinton put much of her focus on the economy... starting with jobs. "we need more infrastructure jobs," "our roads, our bridges, our tunnels, our ports, our airports, our rail system, there is work to be done in iowa and america. and these are jobs that can't be exported." clinton also talked about debt free tuition for public colleges and universities. she said that doesn't include free college for everyone. "i want to give the resources we have from the federal government to help people who need help go to college," said clinton. "that's the vast majority of kids." need help going to college, clinton made the argument that she does not want to pay for donald trump's youngest child to go to school... those funds should go to those who actually need it. there's a lot of talk about the miles candidates trek as they look to lock up a victory tonight. but, what about the media? ktiv's robert lowe is with livelink 4 in des moines with those details. robert? here in iowa, it's nearly impossible to pick up a newspaper, listen to the radio, or turn on the television without seeing signs surronding iowa's first in the nation caucus. but, it takes a lot of hard working journalists, both near and far, to create this media madness. hundreds of booths and stations encompassing all news platforms. "over the course of a few m onths planning, and a very intense week or so of pulling together the pieces, building this thing out and setting up the property for the media," said stan freck, senior dir. campaign technology services at microsoft. candidates are continuing to campaign until the very last second, hoping to shore up support--meaning journalists here are working around the clock. but, it's not just american media flocking to the hawkeye state. iowa's reach is international. "people are interested in what's going on. in the end it's the president of the united states who's being elected and the whole process starts here,"said martin reznicek, czech tv news. reznicek is filing a report that will air nearly 5,000 miles from capital square. but, he's not alone. in fact, reporters from 18 countries are credentialed at the iowa caucuses media center. "anything that takes place in the united states that is major is considered as an important event in france," said mathieu coache, bfm, tv france "so, of course, this is very important, everybody knows that. the germans are very interested in american elections," said heather dorf- dolce, ard-german radio tv network. proving every four years will continue to feature a media frenzy in iowa. >> and they're not releasing the but, we're told in total. there are thousands of media credentialed here at the media center. al and sarah? the third day for the university of okoboji winter games drew in a large crowd. hundreds of spectators enjoyed the mild winter temperatures and winter fun for this year's event. saturday's entertainment included broomball, mega snow pong and grilling on the ice. a first-time winter games-goer says the events offer a variety of activities for her family. "the work to get the uss sioux city to this point has taken two years starting with the keel laying here at marinette marine in february of 2014," said matt breen, reporting. saturday, another milestone. the christening... a ceremonial breaking of a champagne bottle on the ship's bow. "the champagne bottle gets broken, but this day is about the bonding... the bonding between the sponsor of the ship and the crew," howard said. "for the united states of america, i christen thee sioux city," said mary winnefeld, uss sioux city sponsor. "may god bless this ship and all who sail on her." mary winnefeld is the ship's sponsor, and now considered an honorary crew member. it was up to her to send the sioux city on its way... with one swing. nats of launch now in the water, work will begin to finish the ship, which is about 80-percent complete. the sioux city's executive officer, ken lieberman, says the crew can't wait to get aboard. "go back and look over my life and see what things i've had to dr. ben carson. "look at my medical career, look at all the controversies that occurred there [and] the fights that i had to have with the establishment to get things done. but, look at the lives that have been saved by it." carson is scheduled to be in spencer. cedar rapids, and decorah today ahead of the caucus. chris christie campaigned in siouxland over the weekend. the new jersey governor stopped at morningside college yesterday morning. the governor addressed his plans to fight immigration, isis and homeland security. in christie's words, he would be suprised if donald trump wins the iowa caucuses. he says it's time to bring the country together and the caucus is the first step to do so. "you're going to matter tomorrow night in a big way to thise whole country. the whole country is watching you tomorrow night. pick are going to help determine the c ourse of this country. but the show is over now, it's time to get to work," said gov. chris christie, presidential candidate. christie's campaign continues through today. he will be in des moines before heading to new hampshire tomorrow. candidates criss crossed iowa, hoping to drum up some last minute support ahead of tonight. on saturday, both senator marco rubio and senator rand paul were in sioux city. ktiv's tommie clark spoke with both candidates and has more. country because in his words it's not just a choice between political parties, it's a referendum on america's identity. rubio says caucus-goers will be asked to decide monday night, what kind of country they want america to be in the 21st century. the senator went after obama's presidency and the possible clinton...in his words, this is not a time for patience, not obama, this is a time for urgency and action. he talked the coming days..
