theit kids to stand up and lock up cancer." it was a day full of lauter and hope as students at hartley- melvin-sanborn elementary school came together for a cause. over 300 students came to school friday ready to fill up this fish tank with pennies, which will all go to charity. and since it was filled...the principal got locked up in "jail." not real jail...but a cage in the lunchroom. "we try to do something a little different to get the students excited and motivated so that we can do our part even as small as it may be to help create awareness and show people that we care," said hms elementary principal, cathy jochims. cancer hits home for those at h-m-s elementary as they lost an associate, a past secretary and a former teacher to cancer...all within three months last year. a few years ago, a current third grade teacher got breast cancer and a special education teacher was diagnosed with uterin cancer. and now they have an associate who is diagnosed with lymphoma. staff, she is going through treatment and doing well. and by ralling together for the cause, the students are learning hohohelping others can m me a diffffence... "i said you u ght not think it's very much thth we're doing, but i said it's a big deal to us. it's a big deal to a lot of people. so said you juststo whatatou can and i said the rest is in god's hands," said physical education teacher, janet prins.
