crimes in their city. one of them was a robbery that happened outside a trader joe's store. chief says 3 people, police held the victim at gunpoint and rob him. police have since arrested the 3 a while before last friday's lottery. >> the bodies of 3 missing oakland man who jumped into the sacramento river to try to save a child have been found 5 adults in total were fishing at the brandon island recreation area sunday when an 8 year-old started struggling in the water. the 5 adults jumped into the river to save the child. the sheriff's office says the child was rescued, but 3 of the 5 adults did not return to shore. a friend of the men says their names are casteel. riva said when perez and the million guterres, we're told the 3 were not wearing life jackets and first responders want to remind people the current can be extremely strong underneath the water, even when it looks pretty calm on the surface. in san francisco. meanwhile, police say a walgreens security guard was stabbed today while on the job. it happened at the store on powell street. police say the suspect carlos sanders was arrested a short time later and booked on attempted homicide. other weapons charges. the security guard was treated and released from the hospital. a walgreens representative responding to the incident telling kron 4, quote, the safety of our patients, customers and team member his top priority. we're working with local authorities in their investigation. >> to the south bay. now, 3 people are in custody in san jose following a monthslong investigation into a shooting that killed. 28 year-old lucas taurus. police announced today that they arrested ricardo padilla in oakland, jocelyn blazquez in san jose and see us in redwood city. the suspects are accused of shooting and killing torres back on april. 15th. police say that they are still investigating what led to that shooting. but they say that all 4 people, we're at a block party and there was some sort of altercation. investigators are asking anyone who is at the event and knows anything to call san jose police. the death of tourists was the city's 8th homicide of the year. >> the fate of the oakland a's new ballpark will not be up to voteis. the oakland city council decided not to let residents cast a vote on the project in the november election saying now is not%the time for a public vote. and that decision is not sitting well with members of the east. oakland stadium alliance. that group wants to see a new ballpark built at the current coliseum site. >> a lot of us that have the been fighting this for have been working on this project for years are really upset because our voices heard last night. >> financial details of the project are expected to be revealed in september with a number of hearings expected before another council vote that could come in november. mayor libby schaff, who has been working too move forward with the howard terminal project said the city will not approve the deal unless it is a good one for oakland. >> the elector fire burning up in amador county is now at more than 4100 acres. but it is 40% contained tonight. cal fire shared the latest on the fire later this evening. the fire began on monday. it is burning in an area off elector road and highway. 49 just south east of jackson. officials believe fireworks could be to blame for sparking this fire. one first responder. he has been injured and more than 1200 structures are threatened. evacuation orders have forced about 700 residents in amador county and about 400 people in toward the coast. thanks, lawrence. now to new disturbing details about the gunman who investigators say has confessed to the mass shooting at the july. >> 4th parade in highland park, illinois. 7 people have died. dozens of others are still injured. the shooter, robert crimo made his first court appearance today on 7 murder charges. and as brian entin reports, the gunman had allegedly considered a second attack on the 4th of july. >> highland park parade shooter robert crimo in court on 7 murder charges and denied bond as disturbing details about what he had planned investigators say after he shot dozens of people at the 4th of july parade, he then drove more than 2 hours to madison, wisconsin, where he considered another attack. police say he had another gun in his car and 60 rounds of ammunition. he did see a celebration that was occurring in madison. >> and he seriously contemplated using the fire army and his vehicle to commit another shooting. >> police say crimo said he didn't do it because he didn't prepare enough. meanwhile, we're learning more about red flags in his troubled past. police called to his home 2 times in 2019, including a violent threat he made about killing people. but still he was allowed to buy 5 guns, sir. the shooter passed for background checks despite these reports of an attempted suicide. and the fact that he said he wanted to kill everyone and had this knife collection. how is that possible in a state with some of the strictest gun laws and how frustrating is that for you? so a couple things i made these comments yesterday that i think we need to increase our awareness about the red flag law. we can certainly get you the details of that red flag law. we have a little bit of information about that today. a just released police report details highland park police is interaction with the shooter in september 2019. >> it says robert stated that he was going to kill everyone in a redacted name was afraid to go home due to the nature of this threat and had a collection of knives in his bedroom. >> police talked to crimo and say he told them he wasn't going to hurt himself or anyone else. law enforcement says because the shooter's family did not press charges or request the weapons he would later by be taken away as part of the red flag law. the troubling incidents did not impact him buying guns. could the police have made that request, though, if the family didn't says the police went out to the home, could they have it on a case by case basis? and we depend on the individual information that they had at that time despite the police calls in the violent online videos and the troubling paintings on the side of the house in images obtained exclusively by news nation. >> the shooter's angele telling news nation's adrian bankert on morning in america. this all came as a shock. >> i even knew about that incident. and i had idea and no one told me about but did you have any sense that bobby was disturbed in any way or or the less on 2 years? well, as the month and i saw no signs of russians towards me and the whole break. so on those low for me, those little signs, i saw nothing. mission to do this. >> that was brian reporting for us tonight. the suspect. crimo did not enter a plea today. now to the school shooting in uvalde, texas that left 19 children and 2 teachers dead. >> a new report released today unveils a police officer had a chance to shoot the gunman. but miss the opportunity because he was waiting for permission from his supervisor. the advanced law enforcement rapid response training center conducted the investigation. that agency is responsible for reviewong law enforcement's response to the deadly robb elementary school attack. the agency identified 3 missed opportunities to slow or stop the gunman. the most disturbing moment could be at 11. 32, am that day. the gunman walked into the teachers parking lot and they say fired through windows into the west. most rooms before he actually entered the building. they say a minute later uvalde police officer on scene saw the suspect carry a rifle outside the west hall entry. the report says the officer who had a rifle asked the supervisor for permission to shoot the suspect. however, the supervisor either did not hear or responded too late when the officer turned back to adjust the suspect, he had entered the school in the hallway. the law enforcement response at robb elementary has obviously been under intense scrutiny since that tragedy. much of it and much of the blame has been aimed at law enforcement's response and a lot of the blame has fallen on the school's police chief pete arradondo who has been placed on administrative leave. the biden administration has been facing mounting pressure to address a spike in violent crime in major cities all across the country. >> attorney general merrick garland says operation north star took 1500 violent criminals off the streets in the month of june operating in 10 major u.s. cities. garland says the operation focused on criminals wanted for the most serious offenses, including homicide. another big story that we're following tonight is monkeypox cases and in the bay area. they are surging. san francisco's reporting 40 cases that's nearly half the state's total. alameda county has 5 sonoma county reporting to san mateo has one case, napa and contra costa have 0 cases. we have reached out to the health officials in marin and santa clara counties. and we're waiting to hear back from them with their report. and tonight, an infectious disease expert is explaining how the disease spreads our country's rob nesbitt reports. 3 big takeaways after talking with a doctor or don't panic. >> don't stigmatize and have a healthy statewide numbers are up 40% here from the first week of june and the number of covid patients admitted to intensive care units is increased. 34% during the past month. now here in the bay area, health care officials say the situation is manageable in san francisco, icu capacity at dignity health's saint francis memorial hospital and saint mary's medical center has reached 70% in the east bay. 32 hospitalized. patients are being treated for covid in john near facilities in concord and walnut creek with 3 patients in the icu. those numbers mirror what the hospital has experienced the last month. >> hospitalization have been reasonable. someone that we had our biggest challenges tenants stopped. >> ucsf says 56 hospitalized children and adults have tested positive for covid at its facilities in mission bay and oakland. and that's actually a 7% drop from a month ago. the cdc is added 3 new destinations, including a nordic favorite to its high risk travel list for covid guatemala, morocco and sweden. now among the nearly 115 destinations that that top spot for high covid transmission on the list. almost half of the places monitored by the cdc are now at a level 3 law enforcement agencies statewide to adopt an official hate crimes policy. >> in the south bay, san jose's largest school district has voted to keep officers on campuses until at least next june. at the start of the year, the district approved $800,000 in funding for this policy. it's earmarked for each school to hire san jose police officers. if they want to. the board has voted to extend that contract with police. the decision applies to high schools and middle schools. each school will be allowed to decide if they want an officer on campus and how those officers might be used. in the east bay. the city of san leandro will pay its police officers an additional 20,000 bucks to keep them on the force or so they hope city leaders say field officer staffing is close to half of what it should be. so all officers dispatchers and command staff will be eligible for the pay incentive, which would be made in 3 payments over the next 2 years. fiscal years. officials say the money would
