Talk about a scary situation. Dan vittemberga and his family used to have a tranquil view of a lush green hillside. That changed. In seconds this morning. When the earth gave way behind his house. Slamming into his place on tassel way in orinda. The earth eventually stopped but not before breaching the rear wall of his office. Outside there is damage to his deck, furniture, hot tub and it doesnt stop there. Heres what it was like. After moving in two years ago, he and his family have to find somewhere else to live, at least for now. In Sonoma County. The Russian River is flooding homes and causing various problems for drivers. Kron 4s Hermela Aregawi is live in guernville. Hows it looking right now . In the last couple of hours the rain has started to pick up. For most of the day. We saw a lot of light drizzling but not much else. But of course this is coming on the heels of multiple storms. So its causing lots of problems anyway. The main issue of course is flooding. We saw homes partially covered in water. Same with roadways. Driving down river street here. Which is the main thoroughway in guernville. I counted more than a dozen flood signs. Some roads got a chance to dry up today. While others were just starting to fill up. Some residents in the area have also lost power. I spoke with the owners at andornos pizza nearby. They tell me a tree fell earlier today. On willow brook just north of here in rio nido. And according to pge. That caused at least dozens of people. Possibly into the hundreds to lose power. Another trouble spot. Willow road off river here in guernville which leads to Gary Vineyards and some homes. Is a street completely submerged in water. Sot grace bartlome, resident well i am just looking to see how bad the road is. Because on the other side of that is the house i used to live in that i need to to finish moving out of and all the roads to it are closed. There are four roads and every one of them is flooded. The home is fine. Its up on a hill. Its just every road to it is flooded. Sot cecile derbes, residenton willow road, we grow grapes. Usually the easiest way to go to school. It takes 20 minutes straight. But i have to go through west side road which extends the trip 20 minutes. Another issue caused by the wet weather. Gravel coming off of the hills adjacent to river road. And blocking the roadways there. Crews tell me they cleaned up a lot of little piles throughout the day. And we also caught up with them removing a big one that had blocked off one side of river road. The clean up taking about an hour and causing traffic to back up. There is certainly a lot of cleaning up to do after the latest storm. But there is some relief in the forecast.
