thanksgiving morning. linda yee is live with evidence just released aimed at finding the driver. linda? >> reporter: it all started with a fight in a fast food restaurant in san francisco. tonight, here at san francisco general, the firefighter's fellow firefighters, as well as the family are at his bedside, praying for his recovery. police say california state firefighter albert bartle got into a fight with another customer at a jack in the box restaurant. police say this is surveillance video of that customer before the fight. he's in the long white t-shirt standing at the counter. the men were separated and bartle walked out. investigators say that's when the other man followed bartle in his car and intentionally hit the firefighter when he reached a gas station at 9th and gary. the suspect drove off. bartle is in critical condition, with severe head injuries. >> this is a horrible experience that no fireman, police officer, nobody would ever want to have to go through this. every bands together during these times and, you know, we're one brotherhood. >> reporter: police describe the suspect as a mixed race or latin man, 18 to 24 years old, with short black hair and beard and has possible front end damage on his car. bartle is an iraqi war veteran. for the past five years, he's been a state firefighter at the saratoga summitt fire station. >> excellent employee, fun to be around, real unique guy. of course you can't find a better person than a former marine. >> reporter: fellow firefighters say he's a good friend and a devoted father to his young daughter. >> albert is a, albert is an outstanding individual, a great fireman. he's proud to serve his country above and beyond all that, he's a great father and son. >> reporter: police say that bartle has life-threatening injuries and they are asking the public to help them identify the suspect seen in that video. reporting live in san francisco general, linda yee, cbs 5. dozens of residents in one south bay apartment complex are homeless tonight, this after a three-alarm fire saturday damaged or destroyed 16 units. anne mackovic on the simple mistake that was the source of the blaze. >> reporter: dozens of people in cupertino lived in this apartment complex describe the past 24 hours. >> oh, no! >> reporter: this cell phone video shows massive flames coming from that second floor apartment at around 6:00 last night, a fire that started when a woman was cooking french fries. >> got distracted, went into the bedroom. they were in there doing cross word puzzles, then all of a sudden the smoke detector alerted them of the smoke. >> reporter: this picture posted on twitter shows the scene a few minutes later, after the fire moved from the pan to the cupboards to the entire kitchen. the '70s-era building doesn't have sprinklers and the fire spread quickly, destroying eight apartments. smoke and water damage to eight others, but since firefighters didn't know how bad this would get, the whole complex was evacuated for a few hours. 200 to 300 people were worried about what they would come back to. >> reporter: a shelter has been set up at the high school next door. >> we're in the gym, nowhere else to go. >> reporter: his family is one of 16 evacuated indefinitely. >> don't have insurance and stuff. >> reporter: apartment complex manager -- vacant apartment and other unaffected buildings. anne mackovic, cbs 5. a berkeley apartment building ravaged by a five-alarm fire will be demolished tomorrow. the five-story building had been red tagged since the blaze nine days ago. it was home to many cal students. nearby buildings and roads will remain closed until the structure is brought down. demonstrators at occupy protests across the country face eviction notices tonight. in los angeles, police cars surrounded the camp at city hall, as officers surveyed the south lawn. few protesters appeared to be breaking down their tents, despite posted ordinances stating the midnight deadline to leave. one city council member assured demonstrators that the council will continue to listen. >> that's why i'm here, to let the people know, we can work together, work together civilly. we're going to form a committee that will address these issues and we'll take it from there. >> demonstrators had criticized the orders to move, saying it was unfair to have to leave before addressing their grievances in a court hearing tomorrow. occupy philadelphia protesters are also facing eviction tonight, but they say they are staying put. the city ordered demonstrators to dismantle their camp today to make way for a construction project at the site. the deadline has come and gone, but a small group remains and police are standing by. the recent pepper spraying of occupy protesters at uc davis will be the subject of a general strike tomorrow on campus. the protest is also intended to send a message to regents over tuition hikes. the board is meeting tomorrow. supporters of the occupy movement have been camping out at davis all weekend long, and dozens of tents have been delivered, purchased with online donations. more people have died on california highways this holiday weekend. the chp says the number of fatalities compared to a year ago nearly doubled from 12 to 21. the number of drunk driving arrests fell 1350 compared to more than 1400. the bay area saw one fatal accident and a decline in dui arrests. checking other bay area headlines right now, people are gathering in castro to honor the lives of harvey milk and george monscone. the supervisor and mayor were gunned down in 1978, 33 years ago today. last year's march attracted several hundred people, decades after their death. and the funeral processions for a dan vilma reason is expected to saw some delays. the family of lance corporal josh ray corral will receive the body at travis air force base tomorrow. they will travel to danville before ending at the funeral home on hearts way, just before noon. also, bart will be running extra trains tonight to help holiday travelers get to and from the oakland and san francisco airports. extended trains will run on the pittsburgh bay point line, which serves san francisco international airport. and in oakland, extra shuttle buses will connect the airport with the coliseum station. cyber monday may be losing its luster. the evidence that online sales are already off the charts. and why you might not want to shop tomorrow at work. also, sending the wrong message. the reaction to an investigative report on are in the mood to shop this holiday season. one tr . the numbers are in, and americans are in the mood to shop this holiday season. one tracking service said black friday pumped a billion more into cash registers this year than last. the total for friday alone was 11.4 billion for in-store sales. online sales were even stronger, 18% higher on thanksgiving day, and 26% higher on black friday. the friday total was a record for the year, $816 million. of course tomorrow is cyber monday, but here are other numbers to keep in mind. about half of the workers say they will spend time tomorrow at work shopping on the internet. but some 60% of companies say they plan to block internet access tomorrow, and nearly a quarter of bosses say they will be monitoring worker activity online. last week, we showed you an investigative report about state lawmakers who attended a conference at a lux why you are u.s. hawaiian resort. the event was underwritten by some of the most powerful companies, labor unions, and lobbying interests in california. it happened at a time when the state faced major budget cuts. on cbs 5 morning edition today, we asked one bay area legislator who did not attend the conference about the influence of lobbyists. >> it's not an accident that california is the only state that does not have an oil extraction fee. alaska does, texas does, but california doesn't. every time that issue comes up, where we're going to add, which could bring in a billion dollars in revenue a year, the oil companies -- they say the economy's bad, gas drivers are going to pay, you fog? >> fog, indeed, chilly fog at that. it was slow to burn off, keeping temperatures in the upper 50s in the valleys here. across the north and east bay today, we'll expect a repeat performance tomorrow, as we see a bit of haze outside right now. the fog will arrive through the wee hours of the morning across most of the valleys, where there is a dense fog advisory up at this hour. partly cloudy elsewhere, continued dry and mild here through the beginning of the week. finally, by midweek, we see winds develop, which will help to mix out the fog in the early morning hours here. so we should see a bit more sunshine through, to the end of the week. less of the pesky valley fog that's been working its way through the delta and into the north and east bay valleys. very chilly indeed here, out in fairfield today they were in the low 50s for daytime highs. some areas of visibility, less than quarter of a mile. so as you would imagine, travel with caution in the fog-bound areas out there. this is not a marine layer, this is moving in from the central valley. you see the temperature cap today, mid to upper 50s in the fog bound areas. mid to low 60s back towards the bay. by the time you head down to the monterrey bay area, upper 60s, low 70s today. lots of sunshine for them. we saw a mix of clouds across the area, high clouds as well. temperatures will chill tonight, into the upper 30s to low 40s for the colder locations, mid-40s in and around the bay. and again, the mid and high level clouds kind of mask the low-level fog moving in from the valley. as you notice looking out the window, it was definitely there. the storm track will stay north through the week, as this high pressure system dominates. by midweek, we'll begin to get a bit of wind out of this pattern developing, which will help to clear out the early morning fog, leaving us dry and mild through the week. temperatures cooling slightly here, down into the mid to upper 60s for the warmer locations. you see a mix of fog here tomorrow and tuesday. then by wednesday, as the winds develop, things clear out throughout the region. tomorrow's highs, a couple of degrees warmer than today. still in that mid to low 60 range for most locations. warmer down in the monterrey bay area, upper 60s, low 70s. looking at the seven-day forecast, you see a bit more sun showing up through midweek as winds develop and scour out the fog pattern. then again, it gradually cools through the end of the week, into next weekend. but notice here, no rain in sight for the foreseeable future. made for a great day in oakland today for the raiders. right now, here's kim with the details. after beating notre dame last night, how far did stanford move us in the latest bcs standings? and can the raiders make it to three in a row to stay in first in the afc west? sports is next. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but . the raiders were without darren mcfadden, jacoby ford and denarius moore, but did have sebastian jankowski, who kicked a team record 6 field goals this afternoon. bears quarterback jay cutler, out with a broken thumb, so backup kaleb haney made his first career start and his inexperience showed right away. instead of throwing it away, he puts one up for grabs and stanford route comes down with it to set up the jankowski field goal. 6-0 raiders in the second. carson palmer gets flushed out of the pocket and throws into traffic. bad idea. corey graham picks it off. palmer was 21 for 37, 301 yards, but no touchdowns. haney made the raiders pay for it. the first touchdown pass of haney's career gives chicago a 7-6 lead. now 9-7 raiders after another field goal. bears knocking on the door again, but haney's pass is picked. haney's third interception of the half. wembley won't be returning kicks any time soon, but does get down inside the 10. raiders led 12-7 at the half, after the fourth field goal. raiders up 18-13 when they finally punch it into the end zone. michael bush scores for the fourth straight week. the raiders hang on to beat the bears 25-20. >> we had some chances and that was disappointing to me. but at the end of the day, we got the victory, you know. i mean, everything's not going to be perfect. i wish it was. i'm still looking for that game when we score 59 or 69 points. it's coming. i just don't know when. i'm looking for it. the unstoppable force that is tim tebow in san diego. the broncos spot the chargers 10 points early. tebow with a touchdown pass to eric decker. the game goes to overtime and san diego missed its field goal try, but not denver. matt prater is true from 37 yards. tebow is 5-1 as a starter. broncos win 16-13. broncos trail the raiders by just one game in the afc west. the chiefs and chargers are fading fast. in seattle, tavares jackson and the seahawks built a 10-point fourth quarter lead. but then washington gives it to roy halou, hurdles one defender, takes the shot, keeps going into the end zone. he ran for 108 yards. redskins, rex grossman throws it as far as he can. anthony armstrong leaps and comes down with it. washington ends a six-game losing streak, 23-17. good news for the niners, they only need one more win to clinch the nfc west. bills and jets fighting for their playoff lives. tied in the second quarter, ryan fitzpatrick to san francisco native stevie johnson for the touchdown. he's just getting started. he pretends to shoot himself in the leg, like jets receiver plaxico burress in the nightclub, then mocks antonio holmes. new york didn't get mad. they got even. minute to play, down three, mark sanchez flushed from the pocket, looking for receiver and finds holmes in the corner of the end zone. the jets rally to win 28-24. syracuse university has fired associate head basketball coach bernie fine, amid a child molestation investigation. fine has been with the school for 36 years, has called claims by two former syracuse ball boys patently false. today, a third accuser came forward, saying that fine molested him nine years ago. fine had been on administrative leave since the first accusations were made. stanford wrapped up its regular season with an 11-1 record. next stop, a likely bcs bowl berth. the cardinal move up to fourth in the latest bcs standings just released. lsu and alabama are 1-2. if the tigers win this saturday's sec championship, it will likely be a rematch between these two for the national championship. tonight on game day, reaction to the latest bcs standings, plus my interview with steve mayor mariucci. that's coming up tonight on game day. >> you were good to him?
