Obama 54 support compared to 26 for House Speaker john boehner. 5 02. A looming dock worker strike threatens to hurt the economy, as well. Longshoremen are locked in negotiations with shipping companies over royalties paid to workers for each ton of cargo they move. We never saw any delays in the south bay yesterday on the guadalupe parkway or 101. Mass transit on time. On this mornings bay area watch, a shooting is under investigation at an east bay bart station. The 18yearold victim is expected to recover. He was shot in the parking lot of the pittsburgbay point station just before 7 00 last night. At this time there are no suspects. The shooting and investigation caused major delays for bart riders. As did reports of a man with a gun outside the concord bart station. This is just after the pittsburg incident last night. But police say it was not related. No word if a suspect was ever found by officers. Trains are running again this morning. It is 5 06. Gunfire from police hits a suspect at an el cerrito gas station. It happened last night just after 6 30. Police say they came across a man pistol whipping a woman at a chevron station on san pablo and potrero avenues. Two officers opened fire. They hit the suspect. He is now in critical condition. Contra costa county d. A. s office is investigating the shooting along with the police. We have the identity of a man killed by the police in walnut creek. He was 22yearold anthony banta. Police got a 911 call from a screaming woman at the diablo point apartments yesterday morning. When officers arrived they said they were confronted by banta who was armed but so far they have declined to describe what kind of weapon he had. Fairfield Police Want Help identifying two Armed Robbers caught by a surveillance camera. The video shows what happened when a 7eleven clerk opened the Cash Register sunday night. One of the men pulled a gun and robbed the store. No word on how much money they got. Police think this robbery was related to another one in the same area at about the same time. A bay area cop lost two guns to burglars who hit his home in antioch. The officer who works for an undisclosed Bay Area Agency returned home wednesday night to find three burglars in his house. When he went in they ran out the back and apparently used one of the stolen guns to keep the officer from catching him. He did give chase and the one of the suspects did drop some of the property that was stolen. At the same time, one of the suspects fired a shot in the air and at that point, the resident ceased giving chase. Last month in brentwood another officers home was hit. That officer shot and wounded one of the suspects. Oakland is hiring some new help as it tries to cut down on crime in the city. Legendary lawman bill bratton will become a consultant for the Oakland Police department. He helped reduce Violent Crime when headed up the new york and l. A. Pds but some residents arent sure a new consultant is a good solution to the city of oakland. The Oakland City Council by the way votes next month on the plan to hire bratton. Its going to cost 250,000 to use him as a consultant. A milestone today for San Franciscos muni. The Public Transit system is turning 100 years old and theres a celebration designed to benefit everyone. Cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is in San Francisco to give us some history. Reporter 100 years ago the first muni line started running from geary to 33rd avenue. Today, muni railway serves about 200 million passengers a year. It has a network of 63 bus routes a historic light rail system, streetcars and three cable car lines. But before muni even existed, the citys Public Transit system involved horsedrawn buggies. To celebrate, service on all Muni Services including the cable car line will be free starting right now until 5 a. M. Tomorrow. Originally muni was planning to charge riders a 5cent fare because that was the original cost about 100 years ago. But instead, they decided to go with free, which im sure riders wont disagree with and it wont be the last time well see free fares on muni. They will do it again on new years eve as they have for the past 13 years. In San Francisco, cate caugiran, cbs 5. Thats a bonus, good to hear on a cable car thats six bucks a ride. A family got a scare, big fella, too. 70foot python slithered into the picnic area in florida and said hello park rangers were called this and had to kill the python. Florida is trying to control and expand be python population which is killing off cats, bobcats, rabbits and other animals. Next year the state is offering 1,500 to the person who kills the most pythons and 1,000 to the person who kills the longest. Doesnt seem right even though pythons are a little scary. They consider these children part of their families already. They have introduced, you know, them via pictures and other methods to their siblings here in the united states. Reporter new Research Shows how almost one in three pedestrians is distracted by mobile devices. And texting is particularly risky. Texters took 18 longer to cross the intersection and were four times more likely to ignore the lights. All the time everywhere. I have seen people launch get run over. [ laughter ] reporter but its no laughing matter especially in San Francisco one of the worst cities for pedestrians in the country. We have more pedestrian crashes than cities like chicago, seattle and boston. Reporter as chief of surgery at San Francisco general hospital, dr. Peggy knudson sees pedestrian injuries almost every day. You could get hit by a vehicle, youre going to get hurt. If you are an adult, the way that youre struck by cars, you likely to have pelvic fractures, lower extremity fractures, rib fractures. Police are investigating the possibility the killings are related. One person was killed when a car fleeing a traffic stop in oakland crashed into another car. The chp had pulled a bmw over for speeding late last night. When officers walked toward the car, it took off. A minute later crashed into a Lincoln Continental<\/a> that was turning on interstate 580 from 98th avenue. A passenger in the lincoln was kill. The bmw driver ran away but eventually was caught. An 18yearold shot at an east bay bart station is out of surgery this morning and expected to survive. Bart police found the victim in the parking lot of the pittsburgbay point station a few mints before 7 00 last night. He was taken to john muir hospital in walnut creek with lifethreatening injuries. Police say the shooting had something to do with a car crash in the parking lot. At this time they have no suspects. Police in el cerrito opened fire at a gas station hitting a suspect there. Police found a man beating a woman just after 6 30 last night in a chevron station on san pablo and potrero avenues. They say he was pistol whipping the woman. Two officers then opened fire hitting the suspect. The man now in critical condition. The Contra Costa County<\/a> d. A. s office and police are investigating. An autopsy is planned today on the body of the man killed by police in walnut creek. He is identified as 22yearold anthony banta. Police got a 911 call from a screaming woman at the diablo point apartments about 3 00 in the morning yesterday. And when officers arrived, they say they were confronted by banta, who was armed.
