across the ridge. it is pretty much gone. units moving quick. have a dozen units from san jose fire and also california department of forestry went up with hoses. they found one bulldozer and a couple of water trucks but they pretty much not this thing down. it looks like it was heading from the north to the south going westbound with the wind but really did not get close to any homes out here, no homes threatened at all, no structures threatened. good work for the firefighters. we'll have good visuals for you but that's it for now. live in san jose, kiet do. breaking news, powerful earthquake was in the northern part of asia, homes collapsed in pakistan, at least 25 people died. strong tremors were felt in kabul, new delhi and islamabad. new this morning, a brazen burglar caught on camera, police surrey -- release the surveillance video of a man on the south side of the neighborhood, the man smashes the glass, walked in and quickly fills his backpack with electronics. police are asking for your help identifying him. police and the east bay identified the man they say ambushed two people at a shopping center killing one. he's also wanted for a murder in fresno. the latest killing happened saturday night at a parking lot outside the strip mall in livermore. police are looking for 18-year- old jason brown. hours after the shooting that identified him as the prime suspect. witnesses got his license plate and police spotted his car and chased it to oakland. >> from what they understand they were driving through intersections at about 100 miles an hour. >> brown and a second suspect were able to get away. investigator searched his home in oakland but he was nowhere to be found. a ferreri burst into flames at least a gas station and drove away with known inside. it happened last night at the chevron on highway 4. juliette goodrich shows us what firefighters found. all right, we are having technical difficulties there, we are going to try to get that story a little bit later. as for san ramon, a moderate earthquake struck near san ramon last nine measuring 2.9, it happened at about 10:15, 1 mile east of town. this is an image of all the earthquakes that have hit in the last week. there have been hundreds, but seismologists say this is no cause for alarm. they say the calaveras fault is releasing tension in the chance of a major earthquake there is of the issue. bay area scientists are trying to find out why so many great white sharks are coming close to the shores. the shores have been spotted in the bay. we send joe vazquez to ask experts why. >> reporter: two coast guard helicopter crews snapped these photos. they spotted about 20 white sharks between 10 and 18 feet in length within 100 yards from shore. the citings took place on a 12 mile stretch of shoreline between pacifica and ocean beach weekend a half ago. >> that's the best thing i've ever seen in my life. >> reporter: about that same time there was another white sharding inside the bay off the island of alcatraz, if you are shot this video of a shark devouring a seal. >> it is unusual to see so many sharks near the shore of the coastline. >> reporter: david mcguire, director of shark stewards, a shark conservation group wants to point out the sharks pointed out by the coast guard were not clustered in one place. >> it's not a school or swarm or vicious of man eating sharks, they are preying on the normal prey which is seals and sealions. that said, you have this situation and the other one of alcatraz, in my people nervous to go into the water. if people are afraid to go into the water, this may not be the best time to go in. wait until the sharks leave the coast until later in the year. and if you are not afraid, go ahead and swim. we all have risk in free a humpback whale. the whale became tangled in net of a lobster trap off t coast of san diego. the trap served rescuers from sea world in the coast guard teamed up to rescue a humpback whale that became tangled in a lobster not off the coast of san diego. the trap served as an anchor weighing the animals down. they say this particular rescue effort was challenging. >> there's all sorts of entanglement, some with gil nets, some with long lines, you've got hooks all over. it's a dangerous situation. >> the team was eventually able to free the distressed whale. they used gps tracking to keep an eye on the whale. investigators are trying to determine why a tour boat sank off the coast of british columbia killing five people. as don champion tells us, the search for survivors continued through the night. >> reporter: canadian coast guard crews searched through the night for people missing after a well botching -- whale watching boat sank. photos show the moment the 65 foot boat, leviathan 2, slipped into the sea after making a mayday call. witnesses say there was no time to put on lifejackets before the boat capsized. 27 people were on board. >> the numbers of survivors are going up very nicely. >> reporter: smaller boats in the area went back and forth helping survivors to the shore. while it's still unclear what caused the accident, alec dick, one of the first on the pressure before that moved back in wednesday. temperatures across the state today into the 80s in the central valley, 68 in the high sierra, 74 with pristine conditions through monterey bay through carmel. 68 to 82 degrees today is what we are counting on as far as temperatures are concerned. there's the much-anticipated and needed rainfall for your wednesday. that's an early look at whether. here's gianna with traffic. >> if you're heading out the door and hitting the altamont pass, we are seeing brake lights overall coming out of tracy, westbound 8015 minutes from the altamont pass to 680. antioch looking pretty decent, 680, seeing no delays as of yet southbound for walnut creek. i did hear roadwork near san ramon but that's also in the clearing stages. highway 4, 62 miles per hour on the westbound side, lots of green as you work your way near pittsburgh, everything cleared toward the east shore commute. elsewhere heading toward the bay bridge, heads-up we have roadwork in and out of the maze, east and west on 580. once we hit the bridge, couple of cars, 10 to 15 cars in those cash lanes, batches clear within the next two minutes. no metering lights out of oakland into san francisco. taking a look at and 80, roadwork more than southbound and 80 near marina and davis, not seem too many delays, 880 overall you can see traffic moving nicely both directions, 15 minutes fo 238 to the maze, a look at the golden gate bridge, not bad at all. southbound 11, 580 through the toll plaza, no delays, traffic looking good across the san mateo bridge westbound, 880 to 101, no delays, 12 minutes to work out of hayward into foster city. heading toward the east bay traffic is clear. quick look at san jose 101, all in the green, no delays as you work your way into the peninsula. in san jose, one man's trash is every man's problem. catches, mattresses and chairs make the streets of san jose look like a junkyard. to combat be a legal ruling -- dumping problem, they would face a 5000 they would face a $5000 penalty. kpix 5's john ramis find out why officials purposely broke the levees. >> reporter: this morning, hundreds of people hike down a sonoma county levee built generations ago. they came here with an unusual mission. >> what a great day to breach a levee. >> reporter: there built 140 years ago to claim farmland from san francisco bay. the tidal marshes were called swamps and considered wasted land. >> we do the marshes as an impediment to the growth rather than as a resource. >> reporter: times have changed. we understand the importance of marshlands to the environment and overall health of the bay. so on this day, men came here to return what he had taken. nearly 2 square miles is open to the bay. it will take days for it to fill up and about 20 years to look like this again. but when it does, it will be a haven for young fish and sea birds. >> it's going to be sonoma county's best place to witness restoration over the long-term. >> reporter: with a predicted rise in sea level, areas like this will act as a shock absorber during heavy storm surges. >> there's nowhere for the water to go. either here or downtown san francisco. thank god for this project. >> reporter: those who built this levee did so in the name of progress and it is being destroyed for the same reason. >> my family was here when these levees were built in >> reporter: al's red ferrari burst into flames when he was filling up at a martinez gas station. he says he was putting the gas nozzle back when he saw a spark. >> i turned again to look and realize flames were erupting from above the engine. i grabbed the -- and try to put it out. >> reporter: the ferrari burst into flames inches away from an explosive fuel pump. al and other ran for cover. he says he watched his ferrari drive itself off the gas station bought into the street. >> i had it in gear but i think the car got hot enough that a pop something into place and the car rolled into the street. then god, if it had ran into the gas station it would have been an ugly scene. >> you watched as his 1978 red ferrari turned black and charred from the inside out. he says he's grateful he happened >> reporter: firefighters are looking for hotspots to make sure that this place does not flare up again. check out video we shot a short time ago near santa teresa and bailey road in south san jose. this fire broke out around 3:00 a.m. , quickly went to two alarms, the san jose fire department got help from calfire, a greater to anchors before they were able to douse the flames. there were no reports of an injury but the fire did move under one of these high tension power lines, no word of any damage or loss of power at this point. because of this fire still under investigation, but pretty unusual for a fire like this to break out this early in the morning in the hills of south san jose. that's where we are live,
