nation's security forces and supporters of ousted president mohamed morsi. this is a live look at cairo. the latest confrontations began earlier today in cairo. as cbs news' jericka duncan reports, egyptian forces set tout to clear two camps occupied by motherscy supporters. >> reporter: egyptian forces moved in to clear out supporters of ousted president mohamed morsi. tear gas was fired into the camps and smoke billowed into the sky. pro morsi supporters are using live bullets a claim the government denies but a cbs news producer reports there is gunfire in cairo. >> there is a massive amount of automatic weapon fire in the area and the air is thick with tear gas and billowing black smoke. >> reporter: there are reports that dozens of protestors were killed. egyptian state tv says several police officers are dead, as well. the morsi supporters have been preparing for this for weeks. they have tried to strengthen their campsites with concrete and set up makeshift hospitals in case of bloodshed. they have been camped out since morsi was ousted on july 3. two senators in the united states urged leaders there to refrain from violent but it appears international pressure only delayed the action. >> the presidency told cbs yesterday they were waiting for the right time and conditions to launch this operation. it appears the presidency decided forcefully to go in this morning with police and military. >> reporter: at least 250 people have been killed in clashes since the army removed morsi from office last month. >> government officials have arrested dozens of protestors including some from the "muslim brotherhood" that helped elect morsi to office. israeli and u.s. negotiators are holding u.s. sponsored peace talks in the u.s. with palestine. this is the first time in five years they have met to talk. any agreement on the terms of a palestinian state alongside israel, the chances are low. last night to resume talks israel released 26 palestinian prisoners. they are taking steps toward opening the new span of the bay bridge. caltrans turned on the lights overnight giving us a peek of what it will look like come fall. it won't be long before we know the final decision of when the bridge will open. authorities will decide tomorrow. so we sent christin ayers out to check out the progress. >> reporter: when the sun set, the entire eastern span of the bay bridge lit up for the very first time. >> the lights are uniform. there's not patches of light and dark on the roadway. >> reporter: hundreds of custom made l.e.d. lights, the final finishing touches on a bridge that's nearly complete. here's what you is unique. the direction the lights are pointing. if you look down you can see where my shadow is. that means drivers crossing the bridge will be backlit. they will only be able to see the glare of the lights through their rear view mirrors. when will they be able to cross the bridge. in less than 48 hours everyone know. >> reporter: thursday the call will be made whether to open on labor day. kpix 5 broke the news that the federal government had approved a temporary fix for 32 bolts that broke on the bridge last march clearing the way for the bridge to open labor day. >> that is good news. obviously this is a seismic safety project and we want to get people on the new safer bridge as soon as possible. >> reporter: a bridge spokesman says bridge officials are now mulling a number of dates and logistics but crews are working as if they will open labor day. christin ayers, kpix 5. >> and a bridge spokesman tells us opening the bridge by labor day comes down to logistics, how soon chp and other agencies will be ready and how many people it will take to get the bridge opened. a woman was killed while walking near a construction site on the san jose city college campus and today cal/osha and other investigators will look into the deadly accident. a woman in her 40s was struck by a tractor yesterday while walking near the construction site. as kiet do reports, she died by the time she was brought to nearby valley medical center. >> reporter: by the time emergency crews got to her body at the front of the tractor's bucket she had no pulse. they tried giving her cpr and even though the hospital was across the street, by the time she got there, she was dead. it begs the question: was the construction area properly cordoned off? the spray-paint markings show where the woman's body was laying here on one of the main sidewalks in the heart of campus right next to the fine arts building. now, employees tell us there used to be a lot of construction barricades all around here but for some reason they were gone. osha is investigating. hours after the accident, the college chancellor and president held a press conference and couldn't say much only that the woman was on foot when the front loader hit her. >> it's typical when construction projects are taking place, precautions are taken to make sure people don' -- to make sure people don't walk into it. >> reporter: in san jose, kiet do, kpix 5. >> there is still no word whether the victim was connected to the college or the construction crew. today there's another push for people to come forward with any information in the case of the murdered toddler 1-year-old drew jackson and his father shot while they slept in east oakland last week. the rewards in the case -- has grown now to $30,000 and police are asking for the public's help. >> everybody knows about the code in the street. we understand that. we understand this rule of no snitching, stop snitching. however, what part or what role is killing innocent children part of this gain, this code? [ laughter ] >> really all boats are, that's for sure. given the cold temperatures and the currents in the bay a dog hospital spokesman says highly probable that that pup did not swim that far offshore. >> right. so she may have been abandoned or possibly she fell out of the boat. still no one has come forward to claim her. >> she's all warm now and hanging out. >> yeah. >> looking for a home i go he is. >> she is. >> you know, you think theoretically, wow, you don't have to pay tolls when you have a boat. but once when we were shooting an "eye on the bay," i was asking a boat owner, how many miles per gallon do you get? it takes a lot of fuel. >> they are money guzzlers. >> but it's cool. >> and he looked like a happy guy and he saved a dog. what could be better? we are starting out with mostly clear skies around the bay area and after last week, what could be better? finally a little change of pace. partly cloudy skies at the coast and around the bay just patchy clothes this morning and clear start inland. that's looking mighty good after the vincent price movie we had last week with all that gloom and overcast. this afternoon we'll be sunny and hot inland. 96 degrees around the bay, mid- 70s and right at the shoreline probably mid-60s will do it with patchy low clouds. but we have high pressure holding that's down in the desert southwest. this low that's been plaguing us for weeks has pulled back to the west enough and far enough to the north so it's relaxed its influence over the bay area. as a result, that high pressure dominates and we'll look at above average temperatures for the next couple of days and cool down toward the end of the week. heading out of the bay area, 98 at sacramento, down in fresno 100 degrees. 92 in ukiah. was it warm up there in 62 at eureka and clouds along the shoreline. back in the bay today we are back to above average readings for this time of the year. in san jose today 86 degrees. 93 at morgan hill. livermore usually upper 80s. they will be in the mid- to upper 90s. 93 degrees at san ramon. but 90s will be inland today 91 napa and up in the north bay san rafael at 90. they have it really warmer than average. it's going to stay that way for the next couple of days. weekend will cool down by the time we get to saturday and sunday. in the early part of next week warming up again. that's weather. for traffic, here's liza. >> hey there, brian. good morning, everybody. in the silicon valley, everything is calm. we didn't have any major problems overnight, no major construction projects. so all lanes are open for you right here 101 approaching mckee in san jose. that is looking really nice. 280 through downtown also a nice option for south bay commuting. in the north bay, we did have an earlier accident in san rafael. that's been cleared up. no delays as you can tell here from these live pictures southbound traffic looking good approaching the golden gate bridge toll plaza and the highway 4 commute which is always one of the first commutes to back up this morning so far we are looking at very light traffic westbound looking great leaving antioch, pittsburg heading into the concord area. and our first bart trains are out of the yard on time no delays for bart, ace, muni and caltrain. new this morning, a 12-hour hostage situation in rural louisiana ended in tragedy overnight. police officers, s.w.a.t. team and bomb squad members surrounded this bank in the northeastern town of st. joseph. officers say the 20-year-old man held two bank employees at gunpoint when authorities moved in after stalled negotiations the gunman shot both hostages. based on what police found in the man's apartment they say robbery was never his intent. >> written notes, plans, he actually had a book for negotiations exactly how those negotiations would take place. questions that he would be asked, things that they would be expecting of him. >> police shot and killed the suspect the second hostage was taken to the hospital in critical condition. 4:49 now. two "a" list celebrities are asking lawmakers in sacramento for protection from the paparazzi. halle berry and jennifer garner are asking to limit the paparazzi's ability to photograph children of celebrities saying it's about keeping their children safe. >> what this bill would do was give us our rights back so that we can protect our children. when they're too close, when they're invading their space and their privacy and harassing them and making them feel afraid we can call the police and they can do something. >> my children
