It could also be hitting the streets pretty soon with a Ballot Initiative to raise the minimum wage in San Francisco. So ken and liz, this script and this movie is far from over. Absolutely. Now, phil, this is San Francisco. This isnt the first time unions have launched a street smart political push. Reporter no. Seiu is particularly adept at it. They did the bart strike in the east bay and im not sure that worked out so well but in the past, they started dotcoms, wall street and at one time they even got into a back and forth with police and fire saying that they were getting too much money. So they are very savvy and powerful and if they cant win it on the streets, they will try to win it at the board of supervisors because they do know politics and pr. There you go. All right, phil matier, thank you. New tonight, bart unveileddities fleet of the future but there are concerns that the new train cars might be more difficult for the disabled. Kpix 5s Ann Notarangelo is live at Justin Herman plaza with that part of todays story. Ann. Reporter ken, there are about 2500 people who have already come through this model of the new car to get a look seeing things like the new bike racks that will be on some of the cars. Bart is touting this as the train of the future. They are saying its aluminum, lighter weight, its more energyefficient but as with anything thats new, some will love it, some wont. One complain is how loud trains are. Barts new cars will have microplug doors that will help keep out the noise and will be quieter to those who live near the tracks. People wanted us to find a way to give them quieter ride. We have accomplished that. Reporter its the oldest fleet in the country and the new cars will arrive in 2017 eventually 1,000 new cars. I think the Customer Satisfaction of the ride is just going to be incredible. Reporter bart will double the number of seats and hand holds and those grossed out by the current upholstery will find the seats easier to clean and bart promises more comfortable. The seats are vinyl material. They are thinner, higher and seat backs are narrower. Theres lumbar support which is very popular with our riders. They doesnt want us to use it. Reporter n. As the bay area holds its breath hoping and praying for the el nino prediction to come through and bring us rain next year, we have to turn off the tap. As we reduce our use, Water Districts reduce revenue, as well. Perhaps nowhere in the bay area is the water and financial drought being felt any harder than in the Alameda CountyWater District. It has raised rates 12 years in a row despite that, the district faces a budget deficit of 15 million. Customers made their feelings pretty clear at last nights board meeting. It appears that the history of Water District is theres no fiscal control. Its always spending money that it doesnt have. My bill dropped from 107 to 80 and i concede you guys need 20 more from somewhere. Reporter while the alameda district has a 10 million drought reserve that still leaves a 5 million hole to fill. Its considering tiered rates charging more to those who use more, also cutting expenses and delaying new construction projects. Other Water Districts in the bay area dont seem to be going into the red because of the drought, they are definitely taking a hit. The Santa Clara ValleyWater District says the drought and its request for a 20 reduction in use will impact revenue 30 to 40 million. East bay municipal utility district has a 10 voluntary reduction in place. While its not projecting what the budget impact might be this year, back in 2009, mandatory cutbacks contributed to a 14 million drought shortfall for east bay m. U. D. We are still waiting to hear from a couple of the other districts, but just last night the city of livermore passed mandatory water cutbacks of 20 so on average thats going to work out to reducing use by about 25 gallons a day. They are talking about more cutbacks before summer . Yeah. And that means reduced revenue, as well. East bay m. U. D. In fact has a big meeting next tuesday to talk about the cutbacks and the rates. Zone 7 which includes that livermore area has a meeting tomorrow. Its april. The rain is pretty much done. We arent getting any more significant rain than what we had. Not until october anyway. Just money and greed. Reporter the cordovas are getting kicked out of their own tribe through a process called disenrollment. We asked dry creeks board of directors why the cordovas are being disenrolled. They say its confidential and cant talk about it. The family is scheduled to appear here at the rancheria headquarters for a series of hearings that begin thursday before the tribal council. And they are not alone. As many as 70 tribal members could find out by the end of the week whether they are being disenrolled. Now its an epidemic.
