the birthday of martin luther king junior. >> sandra osborne joining us live from downtown san jose where he will be celebrated today. >> with the celebration train ride it is something people around here know about it used to be the freedom train, now the celebration train a 54 mile trek from san jose to san francisco as a tribute to honor the late martin luther king jr. we have video from the last couple of years, participants can leave for free arriving in san francisco in time for the big march and parade. you might remember the service it was called the freedom train for 30 years and idea sparked nationwide by martin luther king's widow. commemorating the march from 1965, the new name the celebration train. it leaves this station at 9:45 stopping in palo alto and san mateo before arriving in san francisco, the marches scheduled for 11:00 this morning going from the san francisco caltrain station to yerba buena gardens where there will be a celebration at 11:45. for those participating in the train ride you have to have preregistered so it is free and it includes a ride back but you have had to have preregistered. i got online this morning to see if there were more at the peninsula commute from hayward to the foster city across the san mateo bridge 14 minutes traffic is moving smoothly and then we have a crash in the peninsula northbound 101 at hillsdale boulevard a three-car crash just moved onto the shoulder not causing any delays but i want to remind you we are also vulnerable to accidents so make sure you're driving safely. look at the bay bridge toll plaza the metering lights are not on, the east shore freeway to the maze taking about 19 minutes and no delays into downtown san francisco. let's talk about the mass transit situation, bart from the national mall. sandra osborne is live from downtown san jose where the annual celebration train will take off in a few hours. >> reporter: this used to be called the freedom train two years ago, the service was inspired decades ago by the widow of the late dr. martin luther king jr. we have video from the past two years of the event, the 54 mile trek commemorates the historic 1965 march led by king in 1965, after having diminishing participation in the freedom train ride, which ran annually for 30 years, and a change in the organization, the service is now called the celebration train, it is a free program a partnership between the northern california community foundation and caltrain. those who have preregistered can leave here from san jose at 9:45 this morning, there are stops in palo alto and san mateo before arriving in san francisco. the king day marches scheduled for 11:00 this morning leaving from the caltrain station to the yerba buena gardens area where the celebration will be held. as i mentioned, tickets are free but you have to have had preregistered. you will need your ticket in hand when you get on. it leaves at 9:45, all participants will get a free ride back home. i did get online to see if there was any way to register for more tickets, it is says all of the tickets have been dispersed but that could mean good things for persistent patient. sandra osborne kpix 5 in pacifica this 40 foot sinkhole has shut down a busy intersection forcing drivers to reroute their morning commute. the collapsed pavement is near highway 1 this happened after a recent round of storms, the hole is 15 feet deep close to a fire station and a church. another one opened up at the same intersection a few months ago. this one is much bigger. it is unclear when repair work will begin. the tahoe truckee area has a plethora of snow for skiers and snowboarders. even more snow forecasted for wednesday. utility workers are busy trying to restore power to a few dozen customers stuck in the dark. we have been keeping our eyes on another big one. we will get some storms turning wet a look at san francisco and this is what you will be stepping into monday morning, 37 degrees in concord, some fog in santa rosa and napa. san jose 37 degrees and we do have clear weather in the offering today storms are due by midweek the timing looks like clouds and fog to start in the early going today and then we have sunshine, dry through late tomorrow, but then a series of storms begins to march into the area quickly not as bad as last week. the ones on wednesday friday and sunday will be fast-moving dumping heavy rain but they won't be here for long. today we look dry, 55 degrees in parts of the bay area including santa rosa and 53 in napa, 58 in san jose, extended forecast a couple of dry days to get some things done. and then wednesday we have rain in time for the evening commute, thursday a few showers , another distinct system coming friday with heavy rain from time to time before we get a break on saturday. and another one on sunday. the clear weather and the nice sunrise today, enjoy it while you can. that is your weather. 6:35 let's look at your bay area roads all of this rain coming in let's talk about a closure in the peninsula, the san mateo bridge is looking pretty good but in woodside highway 84 between grandview drive and skyline boulevard has one-way control, chp conducting one way control which means one direction to go and another direction taking turns. this is due to the downed power line from last week affecting the roadway today. it will be this way until the 23rd but we will keep checking and keeping an eye on that. into downtown across the bay bridge things are looking good. it is 6:35 so that is good news. about 90 minutes to the maze and then expect parking meters when you get into san francisco for the holiday. after missing in fremont for two weeks a dog is back home safe with her owners, investigation. two men were shot at, the shooter or shooters then drove away, the victims drove to a gas station to get help, one man was hit and suffered non- life-threatening injuries. the shooting happened as a new set of surveillance cameras is about to go live along i-80. over the past few years there have been dozens of shootings along that stretch of freeway. on 580, 880 and highway 4. several mayors are wanting more funding for highway cameras. it is unknown if the leader shooting is connected to the other rash of shootings on east bay freeways, lisa chan, kpix 5 today commemorates the birthday of martin luther king junior. >> sandra osborne joining us live from downtown san jose where he will be celebrated today. >> with the celebration train ride it is something people around here know about it used to be the freedom train, now the celebration train a 54 mile trek from san jose to san francisco as a tribute to honor the late martin luther king jr. we have video from the last couple of years, participants can leave for free arriving in san francisco in time for the big march and parade. you might remember the service it was called the freedom train for 30 years and idea sparked nationwide by martin luther king's widow. commemorating the march from 1965, the new name the celebration train. it leaves this station at 9:45 stopping in palo alto and san mateo before arriving in san francisco, the marches scheduled for 11:00 this morning going from the san francisco caltrain station to yerba buena gardens where there will be a celebration at 11:45. for those participating in the train ride you have to have preregistered so it is free and it includes a ride back but you have had to have preregistered. i got online this morning to see if there were more tickets available but they were all gone. organizers have seen diminishing participation in the service but it is a good sign they are hoping for good numbers today. live from san jose, sandra osborne at the peninsula commute from hayward to the foster city across the san mateo bridge 14 minutes traffic is moving smoothly and then we have a crash in the peninsula northbound 101 at hillsdale boulevard a three-car crash just moved onto the shoulder not causing any delays but i want to remind you we are also vulnerable to accidents so make sure you're driving safely. look at the bay bridge toll plaza the metering lights are not on, the east shore freeway to the maze taking about 19 minutes and no delays into downtown san francisco. let's talk about the mass transit situation, bart started at 6:00 am it is on a modified scattered it -- schedule they will be troubling for 20 minute increments, ace train on a reduced schedule so three and five are in service, four and six and trains one, seven, eight and 10 will not be operating, saturday from uni regular and caltrain's regular. here is a look at the weather, we have sfo in full view some patchy fog and a chilly start in concord, 37 right now, oakland 40 on this monday morning in san francisco, 43 in san jose, 37 in concord. looking pretty good. mid-50s expected today high pressure in full command. but don't be fooled, low pressure on the way to the bay area with a series of storms begin wednesday and when it starts to rain it will not let up, today clouds and fog early and then sunshine it will be dry through tuesday but rain and wind return wednesday, wednesday afternoon and on- again off-again through sunday maybe even monday but these are fast-moving systems dumping heavy rain but then they will be gone and we have a chance to try out a little bit in between the storms, it will still be wet beginning wednesday, today will be nice in the mid-50s, 57 san francisco, 58 san jose and 59 in the santa rosa. a look ahead today and tomorrow sunshine and then wednesday rain just in time for the evening commute, lingering showers thursday more rain friday and saturday a bit of a break with contra costa county sheriff's deputy is locked up without bail after opening fire at a packed house party. the 23-year-old kyle rowland was at a party in sacramento friday when an argument escalated southbound 880 highway 92 the san mateo bridge a quick 14 minutes. okay, let's take a look at the altamont pass, you are looking good from tracy along the way traveling at 60 miles per hour and in the south bay, winnipeg jets versus san jose sharks the puck drops at 1:00 pm. expect delays in that area. now, the underappreciated approach to the toll plaza at the richmond bridge which connects richmond to marin county, when they build bridges from tiburon to angel island and angel island to san francisco in the highway happy 1950s it never happened. at least we have the richmond bridge this morning 37 degrees in concord, 40 degrees in oakland, livermore 39, san francisco 33 and san jose 37. a chilly start for this monday morning, high-pressure in the eastern pacific today a mile to day like yesterday, dry and sunny after having some fog this morning. finally a series of systems pushing the high potentially out of existence so it opens up the storm door by midweek and we have a series of storms coming in. the futurecast shows us today looks mostly clear by early afternoon and then rolling through tuesday, it is still not looking back, by 1:00 in the afternoon tuesday, but, then everything deteriorates, watch what happens tuesday, here come the clouds and wednesday here comes the rain in time for the evening commute by 6:00 heavy rain over much of the area, the wind will pick up between 20 and 60 miles per hour. still plenty gusty down below this is wednesday, after wednesday more of the same we are left with lingering showers early in the day thursday, so unsettled conditions midweek, now through tuesday looks okay, later wednesday we have the rain, friday and sunday two more distinct systems, from the bay area sunshine in most places but in the central valley we have persistent fog, mid-50s for much of the bay area today. in the extended forecast, today and tomorrow temperatures in the mid-50s. wednesday we increase the clouds leading to rain in the afternoon and thursday isolated showers, friday another system, saturday a little bit of a break and another system on sunday, so do whatever you have to do today and tomorrow. here is sports. good look at your weather coming up in a few but first today marks the birthday of the late martin luther king jr. >> you are looking live at the mlk memorial in washington dc, a cloudy morning not far from the national mall. sandra osborne is live from downtown san jose where the annual celebration train will take off in a few hours. >> reporter: this used to be called the freedom train two years ago, the service was inspired decades ago by the widow of the late dr. martin luther king jr. we have video from the past two years of the event, the 54 mile trek commemorates the historic 1965 march led by king in 1965, after having diminishing participation in the freedom train ride, which ran annually for 30 years, and a change in the organization, the service is now called the celebration train, it is a free program a partnership between the northern california community foundation and caltrain. those who have preregistered can leave here from san jose at 9:45 this morning, there are stops in palo alto and san mateo before arriving in san francisco. the king day marches scheduled for 11:00 this morning leaving from the caltrain station to the yerba buena gardens area where the celebration will be held. as i mentioned, tickets are free but you have to have had preregistered. you will need your ticket in hand when you get on. it leaves at 9:45, all participants will get a free ride back home. i did get online to see if there was any way to register for more tickets, it is says all of the tickets have been dispersed but that could mean good things for persistent patient. sandra osborne kpix 5 in pacifica this 40 foot sinkhole has shut down a busy intersection forcing drivers to reroute their morning commute. the collapsed pavement is near highway 1 this happened after a recent round of storms, the hole is 15 feet deep close to a fire station and a church. another one opened up at the same intersection a few months ago. this one is much bigger. it is unclear when repair work will begin. the tahoe truckee area has a plethora of snow for skiers and snowboarders. even more snow forecasted for wednesday. utility workers are busy trying to restore power to a few dozen customers stuck in the dark. we have been keeping our eyes on another big one. we will get some storms turning wet a look at san francisco and this is what you will be stepping into monday morning, 37 degrees in concord, some fog in santa rosa and napa. san jose 37 degrees and we do have clear weather in the offering today storms are due by midweek the timing looks like clouds and fog to start in the early going today and then we have sunshine, dry through late tomorrow, but then a series of storms begins to march into the area quickly not as bad as last week. the ones on wednesday friday and sunday will be fast-moving dumping heavy rain but they won't be here for long. today we look dry, 55 degrees in parts of the bay area including santa rosa and 53 in napa, 58 in san jose, extended forecast a couple of dry days to get some things done. and then wednesday we have rain in time for the evening commute, thursday a few showers , another distinct system coming friday with heavy rain from time to time before we get a break on saturday. and another one on sunday. the clear weather and the nice sunrise today, enjoy it while you can. that is your weather. 6:35 let's look at your bay area roads all of this rain coming in let's talk about a closure in the peninsula, the san mateo bridge is looking pretty good but in woodside highway 84 between grandview drive and skyline boulevard has one-way control, chp conducting one way control which means one direction to go and another direction taking turns. this is due to the downed power line from last week affecting the roadway today. it will be this way until the 23rd but we will keep checking and keeping an eye on that. into downtown across the bay bridge things are looking good. it is 6:35 so that is good news. about 90 minutes to the maze and then expect parking meters when you get into san francisco for the holiday. after missing in fremont for two weeks a dog is back home safe with her owners, callie escaped from her yard when she escaped to get away from fireworks on new year's eve, police say she was finally reunited with her family this weekend. she was thrilled, wagging her tail. >> developing news in concord authorities are trying to find the person who pulled a gun on a freeway. lisa chan live from the newsroom with the latest. >> authorities are searching for the suspect involved in this latest shooting, it happened after 5:00 last night on highway 242 n. of solona way. southbound lanes were shut down while officers investigated the shooting. the freeway is now back wednesday the rain and wind develops just in time for the evening commute and when the rain comes down it will come down good but brief. not lasting as long as our last storms but friday another
