sterling's family. just as we should hear the students and coworkers describe their affection for philando castile. >> reporter: people who did not have tickets to the interfaith memorial service gathered at locations across dallas. >> we have a lot of work to do but it's not impossible. >> reporter: former president bush had a message for the families. >> your loss is unfair. we cannot explain it. we share your grief. >> reporter: the moving image from the memorial service shows the daughter of one of the slain officers giving a bracelet to another, a symbol of their father's ultimate sacrifice. don champion, cbs news, dallas. >> with all the attention on u.s. police departments and the relationship with the communities, san jose will take a step toward what the city hopes will be greater transparency. now them body cameras. >> reporter: the department will give the media behind the scenes a look at the training it's giving its officers on those body cameras. they will start using them today. now police say there is a strict policy on when they can turn on the cameras including officer-involved shootings when they are dealing with suspicious people, use of force. but there are times when they can turn off those cameras for example like during private conversations. >> it promotes transparency and accountability. people tend to behave better public and police when the cameras are rolling. >> so that footage will be stored for about a year and eventually all its officers will wear the body cameras. as for the training, that starts today at 2:30 when we'll get that behind the scenes look and we hope to bring you some of that footage later on, on kpix 5. when they're entering homes they have to tell people inside that home that they are recording but as for when they are out in the public it's only recommended that they tell people when they are recording. back to you. >> all right, maria, thank you. it was a scary night? san francisco for people in a small theater. they hid in fear. this is around 11 p.m. at 17th at shotwell. police say people heard a commotion outside the theater followed by the sound of a window breaking. a suicide barrier at the golden gate the lowest bid is nearly double what was expected. the bridge district has a $76 million financing plan. the low bid came in at $142 million. this kind of project is unique which may explain the high cost estimate. approval is expected in the fall but that could be delays because the bids are so high. it is 6:04. let's check in with gianna with a traffic alert. >> this is a major problem. so if you have friends or family commuting out of vacaville or fairfield, you have major delays because of this big rig accident. two big rigs trailers overturned at lagoon valley road and cherry glen. looks like there's a lot of debris in the road. good news, though, we are hearing that it was a possible hazmat situation, that's not the case. they should be trying to clear this up quickly but it's going to take some time to get back on track. the up. thing is because of this. >> they have a lot of options for alternates either. use alternates. once you get past that you have no delays for the rest of mass transit. bart's on time, caltrain and capitol corridor might be the best bet. ace trains one and three no delays. bay bridge backed up to the metering lights. >> gianna, very quickly you have to take a look at your tv screen. my shifthaving fun sharing these beautiful views from treasure island towards the skyline of san francisco, thanks to photojournalist greg welch. a mild start to the day with temperatures in the 50s now 60 degrees in san jose. going up to a high there of 86 degrees. 80s and 90s. morgan hill. 94 degrees and gilroy. let's whip around to the eastern portion of the bay area. we are talking about 95 degrees in walnut creek. it's a "spare the air" day with pollution trapped at the surface. so therefore, a little haze in brentwood at 98 degrees. 96 p-town. 70 in stinson beach to 87 degrees in san rafael. it will be approaching 70 in san francisco and up we go to 95 in lakeport. we have the full forecast featuring the hottest days still to come this workweek. that's coming up at 18 minutes after the hour. today religious groups from around the bay area will gather in berkeley to unveil a safe haven for immigrants. more than a dozen congregations will make the announcement this morning at university lutheran chapel on college avenue. the chapel has a special sanctuary apartment in the basement. it will provide shelter for people facing violence and persecution in their home countries and families at risk of being separated. the sudden pokemon go phenomenon is fun as well as dangerous in san francisco and elsewhere. anne makovec has more on some troubling situations. >> reporter: the problem is that you're basically walking around like this. your eyes on your phone. >> that's bad. >> your mind focused on catching creatures instead of paying attention to your surroundings. pokemon go uses your phone's gps and clock to detect where and when you're in the game and then it makes pokemon appear around you on your phone screen so you can catch them but the hunts for these cartoon creatures has been leading people into danger. people have been robbed, people have stumbled across other dangers, just by going places they otherwise wouldn't. caltrans tweeted a warning for drivers. it says, stop before you go. stay aware of your surroundings. don't pokemon and drive. police in san francisco have their eye on a big event happening a week from today. 5,000 people say they will for sure attend while 22,000 others are interested in a pokemon "crawl" in san francisco. it's being organized on facebook. the route is going to be released this coming weekend. the crowds will be so big, police will likely escort them through the street. people are paying for rides to go catch pokemon. one man in pennsylvania started kind of uber-like service for hard core pokemon go fans. he is charging about $10 an hour to drive people around to catch the virtual monsters. >> an hour my in box was completely filled up with people who wanted me to take them to find certain times of pokemon, get stuff. >> reporter: as of yesterday, it has been downloaded at least 7.5 million times in the u.s. nintendo shares run 65% over the past week. there's been concern about a bug that allowed the app to get full access to a user's google account but that's been fixed. >> more daily users in one week than twitter users. >> it's being played everywhere not just san francisco? >> yes. that's a problem. people are being led to places from parks to police stations and even the holocaust museum in washington, dc which is obviously a little tacky to be walking around looking at your phone playing a game in a holocaust museum. museum officials have petitioned to block the game from their property. >> any museum for that matter. gianna downloaded it on monday and a pokemonster showed up on the anchor desk. >> i can see the thrill. >> i can see why. >> thank you. evidence suggests that the notorious hijacker known as d.b. cooper grew up in the bay area in 1971. a man hijacked a jet bound for seattle. he received $200,000 in ransom after threatening to blow up the plane. he parachuted out the back of the jet over oregon and was never found. a history channel documentary found more evidence against a man living in san diego named robert rackstraw. he denies it. >> it would kind of surprise me if he was really the d.b. cooper but he could be. he could have -- hell, he said it himself. yeah, i could have. [ laughs ] good morning. time check 6:14. taking a live look towards the bay bridge. and sure, the sun is now making an appearance. today is a "spare the air." we'll talk about more in less than 4 minutes. new details tesla's bad month got worse. the feds are launching an investigation into the company after a string of crashes involving that i their autopilot technology. elon musk says it's safe when used correctly but the federal investigators aren't so sure. a driver was killed after a truck didn't see a white truck against a bright sky. he plans to inform drivers about safe practices while using autopilot. the san francisco police commission will move forward with the process of finding a permanent police chief. toney chaplin is interim chief since greg suhr was forced out in may and there are concerns over the new unit in charge of reforming the department. that unit includes one of the officers involved in the deadly shooting of a homeless man back in april. video appears to show officers opening fire just seconds after arriving at the scene. that investigation is currently still open and critics say that this proves the department isn't truly committed to reform. two men are in custody suspected in an armed robbery outside a bank in sonoma county. the sheriff's department identifies the suspect as sergio romo of sacramento county and ivan morales of lake county. serge gutsu. two men armed with ak-47s tried to rob an armored car outside a chase bank. police trekked them down in calistoga. they tracked them down in a residential neighborhood. one of the suspects immediately opened fire. a suspect rammed a police vehicle. serge gutsu was arrested. ivan morales ran off. >> a little after 2:00 we heard helicopters and he said "shelter in place" from the managers here. we watch on tv on your station to see what happened. >> morales was hid then dense green bushes by the napa river just behind the rancho de calistoga mobile home park. the california highway patrol says the injured security guard is out of the hospital. it's like 3d action in redwood city. the city improvement association kick off its magic lantern 3d light show. normally displays like this are reserved for events like the super bowl but now families can enjoy the sights for free at the san mateo county history museum. >> i didn't know they had a historical museum. this is a good thing to know now. >> check it out. >> i'll be there. >> you have to come to my side of the bay. >> i do. i rode my bike all 65 miles through your side of the bay on saturday! >> we keep telling you to invite us. >> sure, we'll do that. >> were promotes transparency and accountability. police tend to behave bet, public and police when the cameras are rolling. >> reporter: they will be stored for a year and eventually all officers will be wearing these body cameras. now, the training begins at 2:30. 2:30 again a show-and-tell for the media. and that will take about 4 hours. maria medina, kpix 5. >> will the public ever get to see these recordings ? >> reporter: good question. you know, right now, under the policy, officers, their supervisors and internal affairs can play back that footage but what is transparency if the public can't see it, right? taking a look at the roads at the bay bridge, metering lights are on with the backup into the maze. your approaches off the eastshore freeway at least in the carquinez bridge to the maze not doing too bad this morning. looks like 580 a little sluggish at 680. we have reports of an accident over to the right shoulder approaching the dublin interchange. and you're busy east of there as you head out of the altamont pass. new reports of an accident near the san mateo bridge. more and that coming up. starting today pedestrians and cyclists in san francisco will no longer have to share the road with cars at the top of twin peaks. the changes made to make a popular spot friendlier for pedestrians and sightseers. the green on the left will be for pedestrians and cyclists only. the blue road on the right will be for two-way traffic. in livermore police are trying to find who shot a cat with an arrow. the only reason this cat is doing okay is because it underwent surgery at a local animal shelter. officers found the animal in someone's yard along honeysuckle road last week. it was known to wander in the neighborhood but police are now looking for its owner. and in vallejo tonight, a bay area man is urging the public's help to find his mother after she was kidnapped for ransom. >> he pray every day that i'll see my mom again. this has been a complete nightmare. she does not deserve this. >> 57-year-old elvira babb was last seen two weeks ago at a market in vallejo. police arrested four suspects. three of them appeared in court yesterday. so far none of them providing police with any information on babb's location. the suspected mastermind emmanuel espinoza pleaded not guilty yesterday. kpix 5 has learned he dated elvira babb's home off and on and he lived in her home. a drunken fight may have been the cause of a homicide this morning. officers responded to reports of a dead body at a home on ocala avenue. investigators say that the victim had multiple wounds possibly from being hit with a rock. they say that a person of interest was detained and is now being questioned. the mobile game pokemon go is currently sweeping the nation but along with the fun comes some unexpected dangers. anne makovec joins us now with the problems popping up in san francisco and elsewhere. you're the expert on pokemon go now. >> if people have not heard of it yet, well, you probably have your head in the sand which is a ronic, because pokemon players walk around like this with their head in their phones. pokemon go uses your phone's gps and clock to detect where you are and when you're playing the game. and then makes these pokemon appear around you on your phone screen so you can go and catch them. the hunt for these cartoon creatures has been leading people into real-life danger. law enforcement warning people that the game can cause you to hit by cars, lured by sketchy people or even robbed. ®1if he they were play baseball or whiffle ball they don't chase balls into the street. don't chase pokemon into the street. >> reporter: one person found a dead body, another found a loaded gun, in phoenix players were lured to a home for sex offenders. san francisco put out a tweet yesterday with safety tips for players that says, remember, you're still in the real world. don't drive or bike and set kids' limits. to tell you how popular it is i was typing a search into google this morning and i typed the word what and the first thing that came up is, what is pokemon go? >> definitely trending these days. >> my 6-year-old asked, can i download it? i said, let me think about it. >> ah let her but yeah, the rules are very important. you just get sucked into your phone. >> a lot of people are doing it but i guess it's getting people socializing, right? >> pumped. >> yeah, looking forward to it. 6:48 right now. are people looking forward to their communities? >> not if you're coming out of vacaville this morning. we saw this major traffic alert in effect westbound 80 at lagoon valley, lanes blocked two right lanes in fact completely shut down, two big rigs involved. their trailers overturned a lot of debris in the roadway so it's taking a lot of time for the clean-up. they're expecting hours until lanes will completely re-open but you have one more lane now so you have two getting through. squeezing by just a bit. it's improving a little bit but still over an hour delay so you can kind of pack your patience. use capitol corridor. you can use alternates but all the alternates in the meantime are really getting backed up this morning. the rest of mass transit is on time and it is a "spare the air" day. over to 92 eastbound right at 880, we have an accident here blocking at least one lane. noncommute direction, but it is causing some delays and slow conditions possible injuries reported, as well. you have a slow ride off 880 anyway southbound out of hayward as you work your way into union city this morning. and if you are going on the bridge westbound you have a backup here also, 27 minutes between 880 and 101. don't forget about the overnight closures on the westbound side of the san mateo bridge. that started last night and lasts through the next couple of days. let's take a look at the forecast. how's it looking?
