Police are investigating why a man went 100 miles before crashing into a building. It happened in walnut creek. Kiet do is at the scene with more on what led up to the crash. Reporter good morning. We are live here at a cluster of commercial buildings here at the interchange of 4 and 680. Of 4 and 680. Of 24 and 680. They are securing the building and it has a hole where they pulled a vehicle out. The scene looks like something out of an earthquake rescue. This all began sometime before midnight when police got into a chase with a bmw. It is unclear why they were following that car in the first place. But it reached speeds of 140 miles an hour. Lafayette Police Reportedly broke off the chase. The bmw is going eastbound on 24 and it took the offramp to 680 southbound and lost control and then flew off the overpass. The car went down an bank of america and across a parking lot a distance of 200 feet then crashed into the building upsidedown ended up inside a yoga studio. Firefighters had to shore up the building before going in and it took several hours to rescue those victims. After seeing the damage, the buildings owner said he was shocked that no one died. During the daytime, there have been cars parked in this area, people in the building, fortunately none of that was [ indiscernible ] reporter now, there are four businesses in the corner of this building, all four red tagged. They hope to have the electricity back on in the building later on today. The two victims the male driver and female passenger are in critical condition. Live in walnut creek, kiet do, kpix 5. Overall, seeing some slowand go conditions from time to time but its still moving right along. 9 2 from 880, 14 minutes. We are still in the green still despite some slow conditions from time to time. I want to take you live to the golden gate bridge. We have been talking about moisture in the air. Roberta is on top of that. You can see rain on the lens. Not the case on the bay bridge. Take a look. Instead we are watching congestion as people head to the toll plaza right now 80 from the carquinez bridge to the maze about a 2 3minute drive time. The metering lights have been on for an hour. Lets check the forecast with roberta. We have a lot of green on the screen. Most of the activity is moving due east of the bay area. We do have our live hidef doppler radar, it is fired up. It is showing that we have the light rain to the east in the sacramento area but look at our camera lens as we take a birds eye view out from our kpix 5 studios. We are looking due east towards the bay bridge, got the port of oakland over here. We have some very light rain but its so small, its not even being detected by our radar. So very light. The numbers are very balmy out the door. Its tropical outside right now in the 50s and 67 degrees in oakland. Wind speeds right now out of the south so it feels balmy south and 3 in pleasanton. Very light. But these winds will increase to about 15 Miles Per Hour during the afternoon as our numbers top off in the low to mid60s. A little bit more typical for this time of the year in the month of march. All right. 66 degrees in sunnyvale today east of the bay numbers stacking up into the mid60s. Again, the winds out of the south in Stinson Beach up to 15. 63 degrees there. 64 in novato. Mostly cloudy skies a passing shower today in lakeport at 62 degrees. Happening today, we could learn if three Santa Clara County jail guards will stand trial for the murder of an inmate. They are accused of beating 31 yearold Michael Tyree to death. The defendants are also accused of assaulting another mentally ill inmate there who testified yesterday that he would have been a dead man if he didnt resist. For now, the three jail guards are each out on 1. 5 million bail. San franciscos District Attorney is accused of making racist comments during a night of drinking. George gascons political rivals say in his time as police chief, he behaved badly at a restaurant. According to sworn statements by two Police Union Officials back in 2010, then police chief gascon was drinking heavily. He made multiple statements disparaging minorities and became so loud and animated that an africanamerican patron approached chief gascon and asked him to restrain himself because his behavior was offensive. Gascons comment is not office is not commenting on the allegations. Instead, staff there are questioning Union PresidentGary Delagnes credibility. He is behind the accusations. The case is being investigated by a special commission. Delagnus says he will testify if they ask him to. Investigators confirm the remains found near the dumbarton bridge are those of a missing brisbane woman. The Coroners Office says the remains found over the weekend helped them identify the victim as shelly titchener. She was reportedly last seen on february 15. Her body was found in fremont near the dumbarton about a week later. Investigators wouldnt go into specifics but say they use a thumbprint from the remains found to make the identification. It matched dmv records. Brisbane police have been going through piles of evidence at her home. Investigators say titcheners husband, paul, is the prime suspect in her death. He jumped to his death from the bay bridge last week. And police say they need to figure out the timeline. They are going through financial records as well as computers and cell phone records. A livermore babysitter arrested 20 yearly Moriah Gonzalez 20yearold Moriah Gonzalez accused of physically abusing a 13monthold boy. Police found evidence of the abuse. She advertised on care. Com. Her body was found in fremont a week after she was last seen at a party. Pedraza is an undocumented immigrant with a criminal history charged with first degree murder. A bold biker led police on a chase and posted it online. He is bragging about his getaway. Christin ayers shows us this guy really appears to be taunting the cops. Video posted three days ago, this same rider can be seen tearing toward downed oakland a Different Police vehicle behind him and a brazen show of defiance. One of the videos shot here near seminary and east 17th street. An employee at this market told us he saw groups of bikers riding in the area sunday. We seen them in the evenings n on weekends, riding on the sidewalk going the opposite direction and its really a behavior thats, um, that should not be tolerated. Reporter but oakland city councilman noel gallo says Oakland Police are hesitant to crack down. The police right now, they dont want to create extra problems cost somebodys life and so they are not being as aggressive as they could. Reporter does it seem like police have it under control . Another one involving a semi this one on 580 westbound take a look at some of the reds and yellows on the roads. Really building up 580 from the Altamont Pass to i680 right now about an 18minute drive. So you will want to give yourself a few extra minutes as you headed out the door. That crash is on the shoulder of the road. Its blocking the shoulder. Its not blocking any main lanes there, however. All right. If you are skipping the car altogether you want to take mass transit, good news there. We are seeing no delays out there for bart, ace train, caltrain. Things are looking great. But it has left in its wake some very wet pavement. Mostly cloudy skies looking out towards the bay bridge waters. They are calm at this hour. Winds under 10 Miles Per Hour but going up to 15 Miles Per Hour during the day out of the south and with that south breeze, its going to feel a little tropical around the bay area. So scattered lingering showers throughout the day and on friday but the heaviest rain will arrive on saturday. This is our satelliteradar. We have been talking about this all week long. This is a very weak nonimpressive disturbance. And as it moves from the north and slices to the south its falling apart at the seams but its done a big job for us. Its kicked open the storm door to allow the jet stream to flow directly into the bay area. And we have storms stacked up all the way back towards hawaii. This is our futurecast. And watch the clouds and watch that, mostly cloudy skies at lunch hour. The evening commute partial clearing. Friday cloudy and heres the first batch of energy at 7 a. M. Just about 24 hours from now. And then we start to see some light rain showers in santa rosa at lunchtime. By the evening commute, its going to get soggy. But watch what happens saturday. Im going to be in napa queuing up for the napa valley marathon. We are going to have heavy downpours and gusty winds. Everybody will get very wet. We are talking up to 6 of rain in the north bay, 6 in the Santa Cruz Mountains, 4 around the peninsula, 3 to the east. This is all by sunday night with more rain showers on your monday.
