The shootings tuesday night and last week happened on the stretch of freeway between san pablo and pinole. More now from kpix 5s christin ayers. Reporter they happened within four miles of each other. The latest right here in pinole. Highway patrol says someone opened fire on an audi killing a man and injuring a woman in the car. That shooting almost identical to one that happened november 2 on i80 at San Pablo Dam road. The man who was in this bullet riddled hyundai was shot but lived. Theres been evidence discovered that both these shootings are directly related to each other. Reporter how they are related, authorities are not saying. But they claim the public is not in danger. These targets were specific and not random. Reporter but People Living in pinole told me with the gunman still out there they no longer feel safe driving this stretch of the interstate. I definitely feel that people are scared. I want to stay indoors. I dont even want to go outside, especially, you know, it could happen anytime of the day. Reporter Highway Patrol says finding the gunman will mean tracking down witnesses who noticed anything strange in the area the night of each shooting, a car crash not far from the scene, for example. A man face multiple felony charges after police say he sped away from a traffic stop. 28yearold sal espinoza was arrested yesterday after his car plowed into nine vehicles on 29th street in richmond. But just keep in mind we have this big rig accident no lanes are shut down but it is getting some attention westbound 580 approaching vasco. Youre going to see the backups now from beyond the 205 interchange. Stays heavy through the Altamont Pass through livermore heading towards the pleasanton area. Over at the bay bridge toll plaza, we have late roadwork so there are backups extending from th foot of the maze. We have another frost advisory in effect. This morning firefighters are battling a 40acre wildfire northwest of l. A. It started last night in the simi valley. The fire is about 50 contained. So far its not threatening any homes. About 100 firefighters and a helicopter are working on it. So far, there is no indication of what may have started that fire. Road crews are trying to make a San Francisco intersection less dangerous. Crews could be seen paving yesterday at bay and buchanan streets. Stop signs are being added and the lane configuration will change in an effort to slow traffic. The intersection was the scene of an accident last week when a suspected drunk driver hit two 12yearold boys. Julian melendez and peter nguyen were in the crosswalk heading to school. Witnesses say the driver went around an Ice Cream Truck and struck them. The boys went flying in the air and then landed across the street. The driver kirsten anderek was arrested and faces four felony charges. She pled not guilty and is due back in court in january. Time now 6 06. Teen suicide is such a serious problem in palo alto, the centers for Disease Control is now joining efforts to find solutions. Kpix 5s kiet do joins us now in palo alto with details on those efforts. For years, they have been trying to solve the problem of teen suicide but now the Palo Alto Unified School district is calling teen suicides a Public Health threat. The superintendent even going as far as to call these suicides a contagion saying one spurs another and another and so on. There have been suicide clusters. Last year four students from Palo Alto High School killed themselves within six months. Then another suicide cluster took place in 2009 when four students from Gunn High School in palo alto killed themselves also within six months. Palo alto suicide rate is up to 5 times the national average. The cdc team will try to identify risk factors looking at everything from Media Coverage of the suicides to academic pressure. The cdc will be working with local Suicide Prevention groups, Stanford University and will compare palo alto data with neighboring cities.
