not off to the shoulder. it is gone. but we still have traffic recovering in the area right at the 680 interchange here. traffic moving at about 50 miles per hour but otherwise along antioch to pittsburg looking good. now let's move to the altamont pass. traffic good from 205 into livermore so this is definitely not the usual case but it's friday so "friday light." north tracy boulevard to the altamont pass will take you a quick 16 minutes. now moving over to the bay bridge toll plaza, if you are heading into downtown san francisco, now is the perfect time, carquinez bridge along the eastshore freeway to the maze along the eastshore freeway will take you 18 minutes. the oakland police officer who has been at the center of the latest department sex scandal is expected in court today. ryan walterhouse was arrested wednesday night. authorities say the 26-year-old officer gave confidential information to a sex worker and in return, she had sex with him. walterhouse reportedly told the woman to stop working in east oakland because of a prostitution sting. it's not related to the celeste guap sex scandal. >> it is incredibly disturbing that in light of what happened this summer, any officer could think that it was at all acceptable to engage in this type of behavior. it is completely outrageous. >> investigators are trying to figure out if he had relations with other women. he is expected to be arraigned in court today. the woman who was shot and killed by san francisco police officers is now suing the city. jessica williams' family says that police violated her constitutional rights when they shot her in may. the lawsuit goes on to state that police officer justin erb used excessive force. officials say they opened fire on williams when she tried to drive away in a stolen car. today is game day at uc- berkeley. but don't expect to see any parties on campus tonight. kpix 5's maria medina is live at berkeley where frat and sorority parties are on hold after reports of two sexual assaults. >> reporter: this is a voluntary ban on parties the decisions made by the heads of the greek organizations until they can get together to talk. this is after reports of two sexual assaults off campus over the weekend at frat parties. the alleged victims two uc- berkeley students. that put many students here on edge especially female students walking at night. so the intrafraternity council and sororities got together and decided to suspect all parties. >> these are two alleged felonies that occurred in our community so we really do need too take time off and assess the situation. >> i don't feel as safe as i could and i think that goes for a lot of people. >> reporter: now, the greek organizations plan to meet tomorrow to talk about solutions and keeping kids safe and only then will they talk about lifting the ban on parties. as for the cases of sexual assault, no one has been arrested. meanwhile, campus security has beefed up here. live in berkeley, maria medina, kpix 5. san francisco police say that they have made two arrests in connection with a san francisco school shooting that left four wounded. the students were shot on tuesday afternoon in the school parking lot around dismissal time. it happened at june jordan high school in the excelsior district. police think one particular 15- year-old girl was targeted. the three other male students were bystanders. police released more information about a shootout that left an officer shot in the head and a man dead. officer kevin downs is partially paralyzed after a bullet almost hit an artery. he was shot near the lake shore shopping center last friday. at a town hall meeting last night acting chief toney chaplin said many of the officers who responded had worn body cameras except for the two officers who shot the suspect. we also learned how officers were able to track down the shooter. >> officers were able to locate video surveillance inside the big 5 where the altercation occurred with a security guard. the officers were able to obtain a screen shot of the suspect and they issued that picture to all responding officers via smartphone. >> downs had surgery to remove bullet fragments from his brain. he continues to recover. police in mountain view are looking for possible victims of a man arrested on suspicion of child molestation last month. they say that 73-year-old donald lawrence was arraigned on six charges involving sexual contact with a child under 10. lawrence was the apartment manager at the arbors apartment complex in mountain view. police say other possible crimes he committed against minors could date back years. and they are asking anyone with information to come forward. hillary clinton and donald trump are not friends but they appeared together last night #catholic fundraiser where the presidential candidates traditionally trade lighthearted jabs. instead, they proved this election is anything but traditional. here's andy rhoades. >> reporter: the annual al smith memorial dinner is typically a chance for the presidential candidates to show their fun side in the campaign's home stretch. but once again, little is typical about this year's campaign. take a listen to donald trump. >> hillary accidentally bumped into me. [ laughter ] >> and she very civilly said, pardon me. [ laughter ] [ applause ] >> reporter: that was one of the republican nominee's more gentle remarks toward democratic opponent hillary clinton at the charity dinner. >> here she is tonight in public pretending not to hate catholics. >> oh. >> reporter: clinton spoke after trump. she took some shots of her own. >> donald looked to the statue of liberty and sees a 4. [ pause ] >> maybe a 5 if she loses the torch and tablet and changes her hair. >> reporter: this comes a day after the third and final presidential debate where trump raised eyebrows by refusing to commit to accept the outcome of the balloting. if he wins, he will accept the results. back at the dinner both candidates were able to do something they struggled to do during the debates. actually shake hands. i'm andy rose reporting. new this morning, bernie sanders is not happy about ads in california. the commercials are about the soda tax proposition. kpix 5's anne makovec is live in the newsroom to tell us why sanders does not want to be associated with the ads reporter: he says he agrees that consuming too much sugar is a serious problem. but bernie sanders is telling the soft drink industry to stop using his name in ads fighting proposed soda taxes here in the bay area. here's the commercial. >> because it is a totally regressive tax. raise the money in a way that's progressive, not on the backs of low income or working people. >> reporter: so these ads are running in opposition to the soda tax measure in san francisco, oakland and albany. the proposition would add a penny per ounce tax to any sugary drinks sold in the cities. but sanders hasn't taken a position on those props. his senate campaign sent a "cease and desist" letter to the american beverage association on october 10. he doesn't dispute that what he said -- or what you just heard him say. but he was speaking about a soda tax in philadelphia, which was three times higher than the tax proposed here in the bay area. so sanders says excessive sugar son sumtion is a serious health problem for children and all the u.s. every community in our country will determine how best to address this major health crisis. the campaign that releasessed that ad says it will respect sanders wish to stay out of the local issues. in the newsroom, anne makevoc, kpix 5. >> why is the idea of taxing soda now being discussed around the world? >> reporter: the world health organization sent out a statement earlier this month calling on entire countries to impose a tax of, get this, 20% to 50% on all sugary drinks. that seems a bit far off. but the movement is obviously growing. michelle? bay area campus. a group of students declared the ban after two alleged sexual assaults last weekend. kpix 5's maria medina is live at uc-berkeley, where they are taking the claims seriously reporter: and kenny, today is actually game day, but no one is allowed to party. this comes after two reports of sexual assaults off campus over the weekend at frat houses. the alleged victims, two uc- berkeley students. and, of course, that put a lot of students here on campus on edge, especially female students walking at night. so the intrafraternity council and authorities got together and they decided, you know what? it is time to suspend all parties. >> making a decision like this is unprecedented especially since we made this fully independent of the university. it was a student decision. >> you want to have fun but safety is first so i think it's a good idea. >> reporter: and the greek organizations they plan to meet tomorrow to discuss how to keep students safe. only then will they talk about lifting that ban on parties. as for the cases, there have been no arrests so far. but meanwhile, campus security has been beefed up here and i can tell you that we have seen quite a lot of patrol cars since we have been here in the last half-hour. live at uc-berkeley, maria medina, kpix 5. the sonoma county sheriff's office is investigating a case of excessive force. officials say it happened at a home on highlands avenue. the sonoma county sheriff says a neighbor called 911 when a couple was arguing. when the deputy arrived, the woman said nothing happened. and the man locked himself in the bedroom. the sheriff says deputy scott thorne tased and beat the man with his nightstick. >> in this situation, the force was not reasonable. he is not authorized to use force. there was no crime. there was no threat. and so no force should have been used at all. >> the sheriff has ordered an internal investigation. he also asked the santa rosa police department to see if any of signify that we do have changes in your friday forecast. in fact, the first half of this day will be sunnier and brighter along the seashore than the second half due to that right there. marine layer is moving closer and closer to the coast and as it does so we'll become overcast at rockaway beach. san jose in our inland areas, this is what you can anticipate today by lunch hour temperatures soaring to about 70, 73 degrees. and during the afternoon hours, we're forecasting a high near the rose garden district. also willow glen, alviso and alum rock in the mid-70s. i'm going with an outside number of 79 throughout the santa clara valley towards levi's stadium. and also mineta international airport. san francisco, today 73 when the average high is 69 and we are going to have one more day of temperatures into the 80s and then we'll not see those temperatures for quite some time with our numbers going down. so 60s and 70s at the beaches today until the wind kicks in and marine layer pushes onshore. 70s and 80s from san mateo, palo alto to honda and pescadero. temperatures across the santa clara valley, 70s and 80s. east bay numbers 80s in discovery bay. 60s to 70s into the we have a crash causing trouble along the eastshore freeway. that's westbound 80 at the cordelia truck scales. that two-car crash is still out there. chp is on scene also trying to clear it out of the road. but traffic is backed up from the cordelia truck scales into west texas street. so as an alternate, we suggest you go ahead and take suisun parkway or business center drive. those two roads are right along the freeway and will get you through that area just fine. and you can jump back on westbound 80 to head wherever you're going. now let's move to some slow traffic on westbound 4 here at hillcrest avenue to highway 242 will definitely take you longer than 8 minutes. it will take you more like 20 minutes from antioch to pittsburg, traffic is moving at just about 30 miles per hour. i'll send it to you. >> all right, roqui. thank you. authorities are trying to figure out what caused an rv fire in san carlos. the accident caused traffic to back up for hours on highway 101 yesterday. the highway was closed in both directions during the evening commute. emergency crews had a "shelter in place" in case the rv explodeed. >> there was a 105-pound propane take with 50 pounds of propane in it. >> crews were able to get everything under control. the couple who owned the rv got out safely. twice in the last 24 hours, a bomb squad in san francisco has rushed to the scene of a suspicious device. the first call came in around 11 a.m. yesterday. someone spotted a note on this white sedan saying there was a bomb inside. it was parked in the hall of justice impound lot near 7th and bryant. that turned out to be a false alarm. at 8:15 last night another scare, this time in the mission district. that too was also deemed a false alarm. new this morning, bernie sanders says he wants out of some commercials in california. the ads are fighting against proposed soda taxes. kpix 5's anne makovec is live in the newsroom to explain why sanders is involved reporter: you probably have seen these ads running over the past few weeks even here on kpix 5. they are sponsored by the american beverage association. opposing a tax on sugar- sweetened drinks. it's on the ballot in san francisco, oakland and albany. the propositions would add a penny per ounce tax paid for by drink distributors. the ads feature sanders talking about a soda tax that was proposed in philadelphia. >> >> people look at the statue of liberty and they see a proud symbol of our history as a nation of immigrants, a beacon of hope for people around the world. dodged looks at the statue of liberty and sees a 4. >> boo! >> maybe a 5 if she loses the torch and tablet and changes her hair. >> unlike their final debate, the nominees shook hands after the dinner. and during the final debate wednesday night, donald trump wouldn't say if he would accept the results of the election. and now he is saying he would if he wins. >> of course i would accept a clear election result, but i would also reserve my right to contest or file a legal challenge in the case of a questionable result. [ applause and cheers ] >> how could he challenge the outcome? we asked kpix 5 political reporter melissa caen. >> reporter: if the vote is close you have the potential for a recount. that's one way to challenge election results. the other way is to prove there was some sort of impropriety that's really hard to do because you don't just have to show there was impropriety but that is actually what caused the problem with the election, that it was so -- it was so bad, that it affected enough votes that it affected the election. >> clinton is in ohio today. trump campaigns in north carolina and pennsylvania. microsoft had a surprisingly high profit in its latest quarter and there's a new smartphone from kodak. ill wagner of cbsmoneywatch.com reports. >> reporter: good morning. a lower open today. yesterday down day, as well. the dow fell 40. nasdaq down 4. the number of americans who filed for unemployment rose to its highest level in five weeks. strong employment makes it more likely the fed will raise interest rates by the end of the year. microsoft turnaround plan appears to be work. the company refocused on business software and cloud computing. profits are way up. >> kodak is getting into the smartphone business. the company unveiled the ektra an android phone with 21 pixel camera. most smartphones have just 12. >> that's a comeback for kodak. there's some help for some new parents at a high-tech crib. >> reporter: that's right. a new smart crib promises to put babies to sleep in minutes. it uses white noise to recreate the womb with sensors, microphones, motorrers and will rock when the baby cries. it costs about $1,500. >> a couple of years ago i spent many sleepless nights trying to put my baby to bed. nothing worked. that crib, i'll believe it when i see it. mostly cloudy for our 1-59ers at 68 degrees. have a great day and weekend. time now 5:51. college students are getting scammed. the warning going out this morning. ,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, good morning. welcome to your friday. time check, 5:54. these are the numbers you can anticipate today. we have the sunshine with the return of the marine layer later at the beaches. high 60s to low 70s. low 80s inland. and our slowest area of the morning is the antioch to pittsburg area on highway 4. hillcrest avenue to 242 will take you a slow 26 minutes. one person remains unaccounted for after a fire ripped through a large home near los angeles last night. flames could be seen shooting from the more than 9,000-foot structure as fire overtook the home. up to 15 people lived on the property and right now, the landlord is missing. one woman was also injured in the fire. the home was destroyed and crews are still looking into a cause this morning. investigators say that they discovered a possible drug tunnel underneath the border near san diego. immigration and customs officials confirmed that the discovery yesterday but are not releasing any more information. agents searched a warehouse near the border but there's no word yet if it's connected to that tunnel. new details about an inmate hunger strike at the main jail in san jose. more than 300 inmates have been on strike for five days. they say conditions in the county jail are worse than the state penitentiary and they want changes. five inmates have lost 40 points total because of the strike. the group says they will demonstrate until the 31st but could go longer if officials don't meet their demands. there's a new scam that parents and college students should look out for. scammers are calling people claiming to be irs officials demanding payment on federal student taxes that don't exist. one woman was scammed out of $7,900 in gift cards for target and itunes. she says the scammers called from a police department number and gave her what she thought was credible information. >> they told me all my information, my address here and at home. >> they tend to intimidate people into staying on the phone. >> the irs is warning people that the agent does not call to demand money in specific form by phone. agent don't threaten immediate arrest. they will never ask for credit cards or personal information over the phone. ♪[ music ] it is 5:56. in the next half-hour, stop using my name and voice! that's bernie sanders's message to the anti-soda tax campaign. more on his position against the ballot measures here in the bay area next. >> reporter: a bay area college banned from partying?
