and it hangs above the front door. the department is mourning two of its own. 40-year-old rafael ramos and 32- year-old wenjian liu ambushed by a gunman identified as 28- year-old ismaaiyl brinsley who then killed himself. he warned online before the shooting he was going to put quote -- wings on pigs. sunday evening, hundreds came together at the intersection of brooklyn where the two officers were killed in their patrol car for a vigil. new york city mayor bill de blasio and police commissioner william bratton attended a service in manhattan at st. patrick's cathedral. some officers are angry with the mayor on his stance. they turned their backed on him saturday night and the head of the city's largest police union slammed him. >> that blood on the hands starts on the steps of city hall in the office of the mayor. >> reporter: brinsley referred to the deaths of michael brown and ferguson and eric garner in new york in his instagram post. garner's most says protests -- mother says protests because police officers were not charged need to remain peaceful. >> we want you to not use eric garner's name for violence. because we are not about that. >> reporter: brinsley had a lengthy criminal record dating back at least a decade. police say he told people in the area watch what i'm going to do. just before he opened fire on the officers. wendy gillette, for cbs news, brooklyn. new york. >> he shot his ex-girlfriend at her home in a baltimore suburb saturday morning police say before traveling to new york. she's in critical condition but expected to survive. a former new york city officer charles con deck who went 17 years as a police officer in florida was gunned down early this morning. it happened just north of tampa. he was a father of five answered a call out just after 2:00 a.m. authorities say kondek was shot by a man who then ran over the 45-year-old officer as he backed his car out of the driveway. police arrested 24-year-old marrow perea. he's been charged with first degree murder and he was arrested after he crashed his car into a pole and another vehicle. no one is saying yet why he shot the officer. another car fire early this morning in san francisco's castro district. it's the latest in a string of suspicious fires in that area. kpix 5's kristin hart net is where this -- christian hartnett is where this morning's fire started. >> reporter: four car fires this past wednesday and another this morning on hartford street a couple of blocks away here sure seems fishy to neighbors but if the fires are linked investigators are waiting to say so. here's cell phone video around 3:00 a.m. and you can see flames coming up behind a fenced area on the side of building. that's the car on fire. now fire crews were there to knock down the flames. and a neighbor who saw the aftermath says this was definitely intentional. >> that particular part of the neighborhood is gated. and very secluded and blocked off. so i don't think it was any accident that the fire started that way. >> reporter: now these are pictures of the inside of a jeep that was burnt to a crisp this past wednesday. it was one of four cars that erupted if flames that morning -- in flames that morning in about a one hour period. san francisco fire says those four fires are suspicious and it's still being investigated. and now as far as that one car on fire this morning, we reached out to police and fire for comment on it. and they said they're not treating this as an incident that requires immediate attention and they'll be taking a look at the report come tomorrow. live in san francisco, christian hartnett, kpix 5. a coast guard warning tonight, be careful near the water as mark kelly shows us, the king tide is back. and it's here to stay a few days. >> reporter: in mill valley this morning, the bay spills over into this hotel parking lot. giving these little guys new waters to explore and patrick from marin county something to admire. >> there's something i think they're getting -- the tide is getting higher. >> reporter: it sure is higher and it will continue its rise and fall the next two days. this phenomenon is called the king tide. have you ever heard of a king tide? >> i've never heard of a king tide. >> reporter: ashley is not alone. the king tide makes a rare appearance just a few times a year. when the sun, moon and earth line up creating a strong gravitational attraction lasting several days. here on earth, that means extremes, very high and very low tides. >> if it comes up a couple more feet, they're going to be all flooded out. they put up levees and stuff and puppen out stations. >> reporter: so far this year's king tide not nearly as bad as last year. people around here remember this entire bike path being covered and water all the way up to that parking lot. >> no, no closed trails but we've had to go through some parking lots to make it back onto the trail. >> reporter: same for drivers a few block roads where water creeped up on to highway 101. as fast as the king tide rolls in, within hours, it's back where it belongs. leaving apartments dry again -- parking lots dry again at least until tomorrow. >> it's quite amazing. >> reporter: in mill valley, mark kelly, kpix 5. >> you know the reason that woman hadn't heard of a king tide is because it's kind of a fashionable team. just used to call them astronomical high tides. it's happening because of the time of year. the solstice rolled in this time of year and earth is approaching the stronger gravitational pull to earth close to the -- the earth close to the sun means higher tides. partly storm driven and breakers reach heights up to 20 feet and also worries about rip tides with the storm surge. and with the high tides. coastal flood warnings as a result are posted through tuesday afternoon with high tides expected both late in the morning on monday and late in the morning on tuesday. we'll have more details by the way they're going to be even higher in january. we'll have all the details when we cover weather a few minutes from now. well, it's going to be a bit longer before we see driverless cars on the road. what's still needing to happen before the dmv lets anyone have one. >> proof it's never too late to -- 103-year-old man on the golf course. puts him in the record books, next. wilt the dmv is going to miss the deadline to adopt rules for self-driving cars. the new rules were supposed to be laid out by the end of the year but regulators first must figure out how they will know if the cars are safe. the cars contain sensors which promise to have superior road awareness and reaction time. but the technology is still in prototype testing and there are lots of unanswered questions. one of which is what happens if the car's computer crashes? well, a new subway campaign aimed at men is raising a few eyebrows tonight. it's called dude, close your legs. it targets men who sit with their legs wide open on new york trains. passengers complain about men who it is like this and take up too much space. the transportation authority will post ads inside subway cars and on social media that say courtesy counts, manners make a better ride. no word yet if we'll see a similar campaign here. a florida man has accomplished every golfer's dream a hole-in-one. but what's unique about this hole-in-one? christmas likes detected in southern california i mean. you can see that from slight. by the way, the earth is approaching -- par heelon. which also helps increase tides but the earth being closet to the sun on january 4th. i think in 2015. is the thing that creates the astronomical high tides and when the earth is there that's para heelon after the sun. we'll have the latin class after the show but first a look at the hi-def doppler radar. believe it or not this is the doppler loop. except that draw tar clutter. other than that, and a few scattered light showers above the diablo range. we have gotten high and dry and you can see that on the roadbed of the golden gate bridge. concord at 64 degrees right now. san francisco at 60. and in santa louisa 62 degrees. out the door tomorrow morning fog already forming near the shoreline. it's foggy near south san francisco right now. and the fog will be a factor for the morning commute. if you're close to the shoreline, in fact even the inland could have some patchy dense fog tomorrow morning. because 'tis the season. in fact i have dense fog advisories posted in the san joaquin valley and that's some of the most dangerous stuff to drive in on i-5 if you're going down the los angeles. flat ridge over the bay right now. showers coming to an end and that ridge will pump up this week not dramatically but bring us fair and mild weather for christmas weekend. the numbers will be in the low to mid-60s all the way through next weekend. you can see some of that fog in the futurecast overnight and then as we freeze this at 2:00 in the morning, you can see we're slowly going to try to go clear. it will be fog on the southern end of the santa clara valley. this is classic for this time of the year, you can see the big footprint of fog that always forms around december and january. and visibilities going to get close to zero if you're going to the central valley. it tops by the afternoon. and we look for a mostly sunny day. yeah in the bay area as we finally begin to dry things out a little bit. not a lot of rain in the past 24 hours on the order of a few hundredths in the south bay to about nothing. in the city, .11 in petaluma and .15 in santa rosa will pretty much well bring the rain totals to an end. nothing as far as the eye can see for the next cover of the computer models can see for the next couple of weeks. dry weather this week and more sunshine and mild temps and christmas day looks sunny and mild. forecast highs tomorrow a cinch. mostly low to mid-60s. and 64 in the city and christmas day looks like it will be mostly sunny with a temperature range in the mid 60s for the most part. and the extended forecast calls for increasing sunshine tomorrow. and tuesday sunny we'll get some clouds in wednesday. there might be a chance of a light shower christmas eve but then the latter half of the week we go all sunny and temperatures warmer than average for this time of year. we have it high and dry in the bay area for the first time in a while. juliette? all right, well in order to improve a stadium sometimes you just have to blow it up. des. the school is oh, yeah. texas a&m imploded part of the football stadium today to make upgrades. the school is expanding seating and adding all sorts of luxury features. the easiest way to do it?
