It feels like january with all these rain chances, but this is the end of october, historically not that wet of a month but not this october and Something Else thats the opposite. The rain now is not mainly to the north of San Francisco. Look at all the rain south and west of San Francisco right now. Well zoom into the south bay. Youre getting more rain now in Santa Clara County than in sonoma county, a couple spots getting steady rainfall, san jose, los gatos, Mountain View up to san mateo, burlingame, palo alto and fremont. Well show you the lack of rainfall north of the golden gate, but out in the east bay and were seeing steady rainfall along the 580 corridor, dublin north to san ramon, alamo, livermore, walnut creek getting steady rainfall now. The rainfall totals are beginning to add up as we look at futurecast right now. Were seeing rainfall overnight tonight and then were seeing steady to heavy rainfall right as we hit the middle of the morning commute tomorrow. Already theres 1 2 inch of rain on the ground and more rain coming tonight, but thats the first of three different storms. Well talk about when those arrive coming up in a few minutes. Meanwhile as San Franciscos darkness fell, the rain popped out, creating wet roads and deepening puddle, a sign of what well be seeing plenty of in the coming day. Reporter the rain started falling in 8 00 and steady ever since, but the real concern in the south bay is the burn areas around the loma fire. This time lapse video shows the gathering storm clouds around the loma prieta mountain. In all the loma fire burned 4400 acres and consumed 12 homes, but now officials are concerned that the burn areas devoid of trees and protective vegetation could become a Flooding Risk when the rains move in. Hiker stan hefner says hes concerned for those residents, but as for the drought . We welcome the rain. Reporter here just down the hill from the burn area the county set up this sandbag fill station. Anybody concerned about runoff in the burn areas as a result of the rains can come here and fill up these sandbags for free. Its public oriented. I think thats a great thing for the public services. Reporter during rains a week ago, it was easy to see rain in the burn area washing rushing down the hylashields with nothing in its path to slow the hillsides with nothing in its path to slow it down. Those concerns continue into the weekend. You can see the rain is really coming down here. As for the loma fire, cal fire is leading a task force which alsos had other local and state agencies in it to keep an eye on the burn areas over the weekend. They broke into the house and stole a couple small items before they got into their vehicle and left the area. Reporter police say this was just the beginning of a 12 hour burglary spree last friday. At nightfall burglars struck again. This time the 911 call came from a woman here in the upscale vail vista neighborhood. She had been asleep and was awakened to the sound of smashing glass. Reporter while police investigated that crime on benedict drive, another burglary was called in and then another, windows smashed at both houses. Before the weekend was over neighbors reported a fifth burglary. It is unusual to have so many burglaries in a residential area in a short time frame. Reporter police say its unclear whether the same suspects were behind all five burglaries.
